That is the real cost of raising livestock and vegetables. Large farms have been so heavily subsidized (at least in Canada, I assume also in the US), that the true cost is not reflected in the store price. Example: in Alberta, 1 doz organic, free-range eggs go for CAN$7.50 at the farm gate (but they don’t have any trouble going to Starbucks several times a day to buy $6 coffees). However, factoring in the price of organic grain, the farmer is only making about $2.00 per dozen. And then comes the labour: feeding and watering daily, cleaning the coop, driving to get the feed, collecting the eggs and putting them in the cartons, marketing, caring for sick or injured birds, etc. So, really, we should be charging $10/dozen just to make minimum wage.
I’ve always believed it is better to put my $ into the best quality food I can afford rather than buying supplements. Health is priceless and when you lose it, you can’t work anymore.

Can confirm. I tracked my expenses for producing eggs several years ago, and it was $6/dozen even then, not even using non-GMO/organic feed. Big producers use whatever gives them the qualities they need at the end, which is timed to be the earliest it can be, to reduce costs, so they also select for abnormally rapid growth. Our family toured an M&M/Mars candy factory once (a relative was a mechanic there), and all of the candy items that fell off the conveyor belts were placed in huge barrels and sold as cattle feed. Agricultural by-products are also used an animal feed, in dairies as well, such as cottonseed meal and other substances that ruminants would not normally graze. The resulting fatty-acid profile can be bad for human (and animal?) health. The fat-marbling that is considered so desirable in beef - it suddenly occurred to me that, if I saw that on a post-mortem examination of a human, I would conclude that the person was terribly ill.
This is why I buy all my meat from a local rancher—chicken, beef, bacon, bison. All are pasture-raised, grass-fed. (Obviously, chicken and pigs eat whatever in the pasture like they should.) No vaccines of any kind, no antibiotics either. Yes, it’s very expensive, but cheaper than eating out. I also buy my eggs from the local market. They are truly free range. No vaccines or crap like that.
In pondering all the food issues we are having and the awakening of how bad the food we eat really is….I’m left wondering what the solution is. Don’t get me wrong I am in no way advocating for depopulation. My question is…how to we feed healthy food to millions of people nation wide? How do you preserve food so you can ship it across the nation without it going bad before it gets there? So people don’t need fresh food every single day because reality check…I don’t see that as a possibility. How do we produce food without all the chemicals and pesticides to keep bugs and critters from eating it before it is harvested? Not everyone can grow their own because of location, apt living, no backyards, etc etc.

I think the key is decentralization and a willingness to live a much simpler lifestyle. It would require much less regulation and governmental overreach but it could be done. But are we willing?

You’re not gonna like my answer. Getting the jab was a choice but so is where you live. It’s a choice to move to the country and learn to raise your own food. We did it 10 years ago and when I say it was challenging that’s an understatement. But would I do it again? Hells yeahhhhh. And did my husband take an incredible pay cut to do it? Absolutely.
Another answer you won’t like is I don’t feel like it’s my job to feed millions of ppl. Why don’t they grown their own food and raise their own animals? Lawns should be growing food than using all those pesticides!

I left CA in 2014 but did not have the foresight to purchase a rural property. Now I find myself back in CA taking care of my mother 24/7 to keep my siblings from putting her in a nursing home. I have to ride it out now and trust that this is all divine will and I am here for a purpose. I love that you were able to create such a fine experience! I still dream about it and hope one day I can get out of here and find my own garden in this life.

I applaud your family for doing it as I know it couldn’t have been easy. I would love to be able to do what you describe, as would a lot of people. So the trick is to find places locally to support by purchasing from them. I do think we as people need to sacrifice the junk food, the $7 coffees, eating out for convenience among many other things to afford to eat a healthier life style. Some of us need to learn to cook! We can afford safer and more quality foods if we forgo the unhealthy luxuries we’ve become accustomed to.

Heck, during WWII the gov't was *telling* people to grow gardens and keep chickens, and a large proportion of food *was* produced at home, while large numbers of young, healthy men were gone for years, so those left at home, women, children, and the aged, had to produce war materiel, domestic materiel, and food, too, and they did it. If more food were grown locally, shipping would be less of an issue. People where I live are learning how to can food, and a woman in a nearby community is offering to freeze-dry food in her big machine in exchange for half of the product. Salatin points out that we lack imagination about how to do things differently. I'd add that solutions don't have to be perfect or 100%. If more people did what he recommends, then there'd be less need for industrial agriculture, just like during WWII. And if food were produced for nutrition instead of cost alone, then people could 'sacrifice' and have a cheaper cell phone or car, or eat out a bit less instead. He’s right! The resources are there. The government we’ve created over the decades has taken away our ability to survive and thrive on our own. They forced our dependency through regulations, permits, zoning, and as humans we devoured it instead of fighting for freedom from it. We have a local woman who has set up a "farming" community of people's yards. She travels the area farming the yards, then collects the output to sell to the locals!
That happened to a friend here locally. She changed feeds and the hens were back to normal. She compared feed tags on the bad feed and the same brand feed she'd bought before the change - same ingredients, different order, so less nutritionally dense. She said they ate more of it, but laid far less.

Or, you could give up dairy. I'm reading a book where a woman got curious about people who underwent "spontaneous" cancer remission. Apparently, the majority drastically changed their diet including the elimination of milk products. I hate the thought of giving up cheese tho.
This only applies to pasteurized dairy. Raw dairy provides your gut with essential nutrients that helps in the digestion of other foods and supports your immune system.
This isn’t proven. It’s like the old belief that if you eat a high fat diet, you’ll gain weight. Then keto diets disproved this. I know a lot of raw milk drinkers who are far healthier than most people. Also, blood tests that show very high functioning immune system and no estrogen issues. But to each their own.

I’d have to say that this particular article was only dealing with pasteurized organic GF milk and in the text repeatedly conflated or equivocated the sort of milk they were talking about.

When reports state that their findings are "inconclusive," and they make generalized judgement calls that amounts are "considered too low to exhibit any physiological activity," and are inexact re: which kind of milk they are dealing with, then I get spooked. The tumor I had was sensitive to both estrogen and progesterone. Docs said, "No hormones for you!" And of course my own body is still producing some all by itself. So, I'm loath to add even trace amounts. Giving up organic raw cheese was the hardest!
By "checked all the boxes" I was referring to the food choices mentioned in the other's comment - grass pastured beef, etc., - and I would add: "organic every thing else".

Joel Salatin, a farmer who has become famous for his farming methods and for speaking out on issues related to food and farming, has said that we have basically regulated and zoned ourselves into limited food production. He thinks yards could be turned to food production, even roadside grassy verges. People should be able to keep a couple of hens. Heck, during WWII the gov't was *telling* people to grow gardens and keep chickens, and a large proportion of food *was* produced at home, while large numbers of young, healthy men were gone for years, so those left at home, women, children, and the aged, had to produce war materiel, domestic materiel, and food, too, and they did it. If more food were grown locally, shipping would be less of an issue. People where I live are learning how to can food, and a woman in a nearby community is offering to freeze-dry food in her big machine in exchange for half of the product. Salatin points out that we lack imagination about how to do things differently. I'd add that solutions don't have to be perfect or 100%. If more people did what he recommends, then there'd be less need for industrial agriculture, just like during WWII. And if food were produced for nutrition instead of cost alone, then people could 'sacrifice' and have a cheaper cell phone or car, or eat out a bit less instead. He’s right! The resources are there. The government we’ve created over the decades has taken away our ability to survive and thrive on our own. They forced our dependency through regulations, permits, zoning, and as humans we devoured it instead of fighting for freedom from it. Now we are spoiled with conveniences, lazy and want everything handed to us, and begging for food and necessities because we lack the knowledge and experience to take care of ourselves. We have a local woman who has set up a "farming" community of people's yards. She travels the area farming the yards, then collects the output to sell to the locals!

One of the chicken feeds changed its formula and has been found to cause hens from laying. Hope yours eat as much good scrap as possible!
That happened to a friend here locally. She changed feeds and the hens were back to normal. She compared feed tags on the bad feed and the same brand feed she'd bought before the change - same ingredients, different order, so less nutritionally dense. She said they ate more of it, but laid far less.
The Central Bankers, with their fictive virtual non-money have created a virtual conjured world in which there is no longer any true price discovery based on real costs of production. Because of this, we don't know the real price of anything ... including eggs, meats, and so on. Instead, everything is a derivative of the Fed's 'debt' creation. Even the stock markets are now derivative of the debt markets which now can only remain liquid with new infusions of 'money printing'.
What's going on with de-dollarization with the talk currently being the introduction of a commodity or commodities linked unit(s) may be a game changer. Economies based of the production of real things is what we used to have prior to the introduction of Fantasy Money by the Central Banks. And if you want to know why the West is gone totally insane bonkers, the root of it is in the Fantasy Money and it infinite to the moon plasticity. Things not linked to the discipline imposed by natural reality create a world of tortured mental illness of unfathomable scale. Behold! As the madness now daily unfolds.
Just fyi to bring into perspective …the price of a bale of hay 2008 went from 8.00 to 16.00. The price of hay this past year went from 16.00 to 24.00;a bale in the southwest
Large round bales went from $35 to $75 per bale since 2017 in North Central Florida, with most of that being in the last 3 years.
I really believe all this is about depopulation.

On a sub-thread here, a reader posted her story relating a danger posed to those with certain estrogenic-sensitive cancers — and yes, she was talking about having to give up RAW, GF milk and cheese. I researched this and inquired further of her and she had the kindness to respond. (You can find the convo just below, with links)
Well, it appears, to my surprise, that for some, this wonderful food can indeed be a danger. I think it’s necessary to add this caveat as a word of caution & to add to our body of knowledge.

Or, you could give up dairy. I'm reading a book where a woman got curious about people who underwent "spontaneous" cancer remission. Apparently, the majority drastically changed their diet including the elimination of milk products. I hate the thought of giving up cheese tho.
This only applies to pasteurized dairy. Raw dairy provides your gut with essential nutrients that helps in the digestion of other foods and supports your immune system.
ALL dairy = high in estrogen which feeds estrogen-sensitive cancers.
This isn’t proven. It’s like the old belief that if you eat a high fat diet, you’ll gain weight. Then keto diets disproved this. I know a lot of raw milk drinkers who are far healthier than most people. Also, blood tests that show very high functioning immune system and no estrogen issues. But to each their own.

It does include grass-fed milk and mentions various studies (including grass-fed) concluding that high-fat milk likely does, indeed, raise the chances of breast cancer due to the hormone levels. Though one study said it’s inconclusive, questioning the methodologies. I’d have to say that this particular article was only dealing with pasteurized organic GF milk and in the text repeatedly conflated or equivocated the sort of milk they were talking about.

Note especially the last two sentences.
There may be other factors at play here, and I do not want to diminish your ordeal and courageous battle in any way; But I really want to get at the facts. It might help you as well.
So, question — and please forgive me if you find this intrusive or offensive and do not feel obligated to respond: You said you’d checked all the boxes and I’d like to know what that means. It would help me and others sort this out, as perhaps others can be helped by knowing.

Dick, Thank you, I very much appreciate your researching details and specifics! What you found agrees with what I found, too. When reports state that their findings are "inconclusive," and they make generalized judgement calls that amounts are "considered too low to exhibit any physiological activity," and are inexact re: which kind of milk they are dealing with, then I get spooked. The tumor I had was sensitive to both estrogen and progesterone. Docs said, "No hormones for you!" And of course my own body is still producing some all by itself. So, I'm loath to add even trace amounts. Giving up organic raw cheese was the hardest!
By "checked all the boxes" I was referring to the food choices mentioned in the other's comment - grass pastured beef, etc., - and I would add: "organic every thing else".
Two and one half years have passed since the lumpectomy, and so far so good. I had, and continue to have, great care. My gratitude is boundless.

There is a vast difference between pasture-raised raw dairy and the stuff called milk. Whenever you read articles like this, whether it’s dairy, meat or some vitamin or supplement that the info or study is discrediting, one must ask some questions.
-Is it the FORM of the substance that’s at fault?
-Were there other factors involved — in your example, was there anything else the person changed or, was milk eliminated solely?
-Does the explanation comport with other instances where remission occurred, again using your example, without stopping milk drinking?
We are so abandoned by good medical practice and care and so gaslit that we are on our own — just trying to figure out what to do! We are medical beggars and street waifs picking through so much litter and dumpster-diving to find what might be true and helpful to our needy bodies and souls! We are the homeless escapees from the sane asylums where they put us long ago.
I recommend you find out about raw grass-fed milk & cheese & I think you’ll find that those dairy-pasturing peoples are among the most hale and cancer-free on the planet! (This goes for the medical myths about meat & eggs, too. It’s all about what the animal eats.) It’s a fascinating and encouraging topic!
