You came here legally and followed the law which is good. You now reward the country that gave you far more than your home country ever could have (or you would have never left) by calling it's citizens a bunch of lazy malcontents.

Just maybe you could have come here, made your pile, and been grateful about the opportunity given you. Instead you take the opportunity to trash the people of the country that took you in.

This seems kind of harsh. If you have tried hiring from the pool of say, 20-somethings recently, you know that finding a hardcore work ethic is rare. It's not non-existent, just rare. I don't know how people get it, whether it is a personality type or environment or both, but it stands to reason that in a country with cushier accoutrements (like US of A), a person isn't going to develop that work ethic much via environment--there are just too many things that are pre-made, pre-prepared, pre-fabbed for us. I think this commenter is probably amazed that we have had it so good, materially, (too good, imho, not that I am not grateful but I see it as the "good times make weak men" chestnut) that entire skillsets and motivations have been lost, because Americans are trained FIRST to consume, and only SECOND to produce. I'm thinking this person's not trashing ALL the people, but like I said, a real work ethic is a rare thing, and has been for a few years now.

Canada is the same... We followed our Uncle Sam.

I’m pretty sure they aren’t trashing most, just the fact that they’ve all come from so much worse places, to see the ungrateful lazy fucks we have as half our nation, I agree with them. I busted my ass all my life to get where I’m at, and I don’t care who you are, or where you came from,if youre lazy, then you suck. You deserve nothing. And if you are willing to put your all into a shit job, with hopes to get better, welcome aboard. Here’s a person who is now hiring others, and I can’t imagine doing that in these days. So many people just suck. My bride brought a new nurse on board, just a few years ago. Orientation, training, for months. whole nine. First day she was to start on her own, she doesn’t show. Bride calls her, and she says, “oh didn’t I tell you I was moving back to Montana”? Who does that? People that suck.

Lol look around you Jeff. Sadly many of our own American citizens ARE lazy, entitled malcontents. What is it? You can’t stand the truth if it comes from a former outsider that is now a legal immigrant?

I didn't say that he was lying, nor did I disagree with his conclusion.

I pointed out that as a first generation immigrant, who had far more opportunity here than he would have had in his home country, he could have made his point without trashing the people who live here. He could have explained his rags to riches story without including "Americans are lazy complainers" which is the distillation of what he said. It reeks of ingratitude.

Plus there are plenty of Americans that do work hard and have their own rags to riches story (I know as I'm one of them). And there are plenty of bums in his home country that don't work hard or there would have been more opportunity there and he would have never left.

I have no problem with truth whatsoever. I do have a huge problem with people who come here, manage to make a pile of money, then trash Americans. Seriously, how is this any different from Illhan Omar?

The shallow thinking in these comments amazes me sometimes. I take issue with an immigrant trashing native born Americans and you claim I can't stand the truth? Did I say what he said was false? Of course not. I took issue with his ingratitude, which I made perfectly clear in my comment.

Edit: After thinking about this more I don't mean to take this all out on Reader. My frustration is that this self-hatred is what thirty years of media-induced collective guilt and "turn the other cheek Christianity" has wrought. An immigrant trashes native-born Americans as lazy complainers, and instead of being annoyed at the chutzpah of it, commenters fall all over themselves to agree with it.

I see your point, JC. He did admit reactions like yours have merit. My takeaway is more like, “Lazy people don’t succeed, and they’re stupid to complain about it.” That seems like a universal truth. It’s ironic in the land of opportunity.

Here’s the difference; I don’t take anything he said as trashing Americans.

I took it as Reader voicing surprised criticism on the poor work ethic of some people that he’s encountered. He’s entitled to his opinions and need not be a native born American to be justified in having them. This is no different than men expressing criticisms about abortion or non-medical professionals criticizing vaccines or people without children criticizing schools for indoctrinating kids.

Jeff C - Fla Mom expressed it best about new Americans from Africa. It doesn’t apply to you, or to me or to many others, but SHE, Ingrid, has a right to comment on the obvious as you have a right to feel insulted. I think we all frequently see what she describes in the American workforce and in our society in general. She possibly earned her right to comment on the all-too-obvious. Think this out, pls.

I guess it was Reader who started this. Sorry, Ingrid. Free speech though is important.

Yep. Important pretty much no matter who it comes from and sometimes especially important when it stings a little.
