The media reports of the protests in Australia substantially underplay the size and scale of the protest movement. The epicenter of Australia's Covid madness is Victoria, where the entire state is being run by Dictator Dan Andrews. Andrews has attempted to formalize his dictatorial powers in a new bill that gives him the personal power to declare a state of emergency, lock down people, suspend civil rights and imprison people deemed 'a risk.' Even among the vaccinated, this was a step too far and over the past four weeks there have been massive protests in the state capital, Melbourne, and they continue to grow. The turnout on 20th November 2021 was in the vicinity of 400,000 to 500,000 people. The following weekend the number was nearer 750,000. The media and police claim no more than 20,000 but the photographic evidence is clear. The Vic govt is in a state of panic and disarray. Dan needs the votes of several key independents, but being a dictator he doesn't ask or negotiate, simply demands they fall in line. They are not. Seven government MPs have quit the parliament, announcing their imminent resignation/retirement.

The nexus is Victoria, but there are huge protests in every capital city and in dozens of regional centres - this is unheard of. In Perth, Western Australia, there was a huge rally on 20th November of between 20-40,000. The pressure continues to mount.

The Federal Government pretends to sit on its hands, claiming it wants the states to give up their mandates and relax restrictions, but our good Prime Minister (that "guy down under" - never was there ever a more fitting statement made about that empty and soulless man), has been directing the states from the back seat. There is an election looming and he and his government desperately need 'plausible deniability' for the appalling behaviour of the state governments. But we know he's as culpable as the rest and he and his ilk will pay in March/April.

"Seven government MPs have quit the parliament, announcing their imminent resignation/retirement."

I have never understood non-American politicians who resign as a protest. How in the world is this an effective strategy?

Expand full comment
Die Untermensche's avatar

They aren't resigning in protest - almost no one does that. They aren't able to deal with the pressure, coming at them from the government itself and the electorate. At some point being a lying, cheating time-server simply becomes too difficult and they bail. This will force seven by-elections and, with hatred for the government running at all time high, there is a real risk that the government will lose its majority.

Nevertheless, it now looks as though the government has obtained the last vote they needed to pass their "Enabling Act", so maybe they will cancel the by-elections in the name of public safety.

Please, DON’T support Kelly!!!! We want her out! Her hand was forced to sign this bill and it’s just a political move to get re-elected! She didn’t want the special session that brought the bill forward! For the first time in history the KS legislature petitioned to bring the special session when the governor wouldn’t initiate it. She was the first governor in the nation to support school lockdowns, long before cases even rose in the state! She has worked hard to make us a state like NY or CA and if it wasn’t for a Republican super majority she might have accomplished it!

Please, please, please retract the support of Kelly! She already has the backing of the deep state and we’ve been working so hard to push back!

Please retract your support of Kansas governor Kelly. She fought the special session that led to the bill she signed. If it wasn’t for a super majority of conservatives in the senate, KS would have looked like NY, CA, and MI this last year for lockdowns, masks, and mandates. She went into schools and pushed pornographic material, supports abortion, basically a full-blown communist. #mikethompson4ksgovernor

No no no no!!! Freedom lovers in Kansas don't want another minute under Laura Kelly's rule, much less 4 years! I can see why you got confused, and that was the point. This is all optics. This D did not all of a sudden see the light and hear the freedom bell ringing, she saw her approval rating and heard the unemployment line calling! Please don't encourage another dollar go her way!! Kansans are sick of this tyranny and we WILL vote her out!

Thank you. I think we have to be very careful about donating money to these people. I appreciate what Jeff is trying to do though. However, without a pattern of walking the walk I cannot give even $12 to one of these rats. I was intrigued when I saw what she did, but huge red flags about it since nothing else lines up. Would there be a way to let our support be known for her one act, without contributing to the finances and helping get her re-elected. What is her stance on abortion? Where does she stand on election fraud? Has she been covid bat shit crazy? How did she treat Trump and his America first policies? Without all of that... I cannot be a good steward of my $12 and give it to her. My $12 is nothing but if 40,000 of us do it that’s almost half a million! For someone who doesn’t stand for what I actually stand for.

I will not give a dime to lockdown Laura, the only reason she signed is because she knows she's losing ground and wouldn't get re-elected. We the people made this happen because we pushed our legislators with our voices & pens and you give her all the credit. Wrong on so many levels.

It seems it would be better to get feedback from your readers before selecting a governor to support.

One self-interested strategic move in favor of liberty should not garner financial contributions AGAINST a Republican candidate for governor who actually believes in liberty! If you wanted to make a bi-Partisan move then support a Democrat voicing liberty in a democratic stronghold where it’s unpopular and where we have no chance of getting a true conservative elected. Very disappointed in your judgment on this one and will have to be diligent about double checking your recommendations in the future.

Governor Kelly VETOED this bill - Kansas SB55 (http://www.kslegislature.org/li/b2021_22/measures/documents/sb55_enrolled.pdf)

"AN ACT concerning education; relating to student athletes; creating the fairness in women's

sports act; restricting participation on women's teams to female students; providing a

cause of action for violations."

This bill would have simply not allowed transgender athletes to participate in women's sports, to enter women's locker rooms and bathrooms, etc.

This was her statement regarding this bill:

This was all done by the GOP legislature & Lockdown Laura only signed this because she knows her re-election is looking gloomy. Our LEGISLATORS called a special session WITHOUT Laura because she refused to call them in session. This was a historic move by all republicans in the legislature. No credit to Gov. Kelly. Her days are limited in office.

I am from Kansas and would kindly ask you to rethink your promotion of Governor Kelly. She has never been for freedom here in Kansas and this latest bill that was passed was only a way for her to gain support for re-election.

If you look at Kelly's history here in Kansas, you will see that she is not someone freedom loving patriots should be supporting. The bill that was recently passed was an "ok" bill, but fell far short of banning mandates altogether.

If you know your Constitution, you will see that this kind of bill that required employers to accept religious and medical exemptions, should not even be needed. Our religious freedoms are already upheld by our Constitution -- we just have governing leaders and businesses who are not being held accountable as they violate the Constitution. So even the passing of a bill like this just continues to leave this power in the government's hands, instead of in the hands of the individual which is where it belongs.

PLEASE remove your push to support Governor Kelly immediately. We do NOT want her back in office here in Kansas!

Another note is that when she became governor, she brought in Dr. Lee Norman as Secretary of Health. While he was in that position, they added two vaccines to the school mandated schedule without the proper procedures. They were called out on it, had to follow proper procedure, then after over a hundred Kansans showed up to protest the addition of the 2 vaccines, they added them anyway.

During COVID, they worked together to push the school lockdowns, the mask mandates, lockdowns, etc. Recently Dr. Norman was asked to resign -- another indicator of Kelly distancing herself from the negative impact her policies have made on our state -- to gain re-election.

Michigan did something similar. A former DC lawyer became head of the Michigan Dept of Health and Human Services in 2019. He resigned in April 2021 with a huge non disclosure buyout clause. Most felt it was because of pending lawsuits and media exposing putting Covid positive patients into nursing homes in early 2020. Elizabeth Hertel was the replacement, another lawyer, whose husband and brother serve as Dems in the Michigan Legislature. Dr Khalduin, the Governor’s head of emergency response to the pandemic has also recently resigned amid controversy. The playbook seems to be the same for all the blue governors.

"Kelly has engaged in a slew of battles with Republican legislators on a range of issues, including abortion and her executive power to order school and business closures during the pandemic. She’s also vetoed several prominent GOP messaging bills, including on a transgender sports ban and voting restrictions.

The legislature overrode her vote on the voting bill but could not do so on the transgender sports ban."

As I stated above our Michigan governor did something similar in August on a budget bill. The Legislature added a provision that county health departments could no longer mandate masks in schools and she agreed to sign it. A big deal was made of it in the state press, and she is also running for re election. As soon as the budget became law, she said the abolishment of mandatory masking in schools was unenforceable. So many schools are still requiring masking. I don’t trust any blue governor.
