Why are they calling the wrangling for speaker dysfunctional? Government is supposed to be a hot mess of debating and demanding and compromising! I am loving this sense of actually waking up!! Read the stories from early days in the country - you’d have duels, fist fights, etc. British Parliament used to be crazy raucous. When they’re rowdy, they’re alive and are doing their dang job. I LOVE it!

Also, we need more Hillsdale-style schools!!! Go Florida!

I congratulate the Republicans in the House, especially those who held McCarthy's feet to the fire. I suspect many of them remembered Paul Ryan and what a dismal Speaker he was. He undermined and worked against Trump's agenda.

Agree totally on needing more Hillsdale-style schools! Go DeSantis! It makes me want to go back to college in my 60s! As a homeschool mom of 6, I learned so much real history that was deleted from the public school curriculum in the 60's and early 70's when I attended. At that time all the Christian emphasis was deliberately deleted. At least some facts were given. Now history is just blatant twisted lies! The communists have succeeded in their 1958 goal number 17 (Get control of the schools. Use them as transmission belts for socialism and current Communist propaganda. Soften the curriculum. Get control of teachers' associations. Put the party line in text-books), goal 18 (Gain control of all student newspapers), and goal 19 (Use student riots to foment public protests against programs or organizations which are under Communist attack). AOC and others like her are the product of a failed school system that promotes communism.

My empathy is reserved for all the adults who had no means to defend themselves; the elderly who believed all the lies, the breadwinner who was just trying to provide for his/her family and the naive college student who still hadn't figured out how dangerous the world is. You don't have a lack of empathy. What you have is "too much" empathy for everyone whose lives have been devastated by the bio-weapon forced on them. Serves them right? No, not yet. That will be determined by God as He sorts out those who come before Him after leaving this life. Those who self-consciously forced this agenda on everyone else made a deliberate decision to do what they did. My empathy ends with the innocent victims and I can trust God to sort that out in His court. Our battle is on this side of the grave. Do NOT feel shame. That is a lie of the Devil. Feel righteous indignation that the innocent were not defended; that righteousness was called evil and evil was called virtue. Let this gird up your loins to put on the armor of God and pick up your sword for battle. Rebuke the Devil and stand for righteousness.

Well, it’s hard to know how all the concessions will actually play out... will McCarthy keep his word.

That said, it’s kind of nice, after reading about the vigorously heated debates in the colonial House of Burgesses (Virginia, Patrick Henry and company) and the Continental Congresses (someone sent to summon a key supporter for declaring independence, who raced in on horseback muddy and wet from his all night ride, I am sorry I can’t remember the names, but Jenny Cote will, if she reads this), it’s nice to see some vigor and manliness coming from some of our elected representatives. No offense to the women who also held the line.

We need exactly more of this. Stand firm on principle. Debate. Real change. Although capping 2024 spending at 2022 level is not really the change we want to see. Normally I agree with you. However, something interesting happened to the official narrative.

Day 1: MSM (including FOX & Newmax)/Uniparty - exasperation, selfish 20

Day 2: MSM (including FOX & Newmax)/Uniparty - chaos, embarrassment

Day 3: MSM (including FOX & Newmax)/Uniparty - terrorists, insurrectionists

Day 4: MSM (including FOX & Newmax)/Uniparty - 20 holdouts did us a favor, here is the list of concessions that are good for Congress and the American people.

I guess what I am saying is the official narrative did not work and not only did the Uniparty cave, but so did MSM. MSM actually listed all of the concessions (as you saw in Jeff's post). They may try to squeeze out of it, but it will be harder. The people on social media now know the truth about why the 20 held out. I have already heard Congressman Tony Gonzales say yesterday afternoon on Twitter that he will not vote yes on the new rules. I think that may have caused enough mistrust that the 14th vote failed when McCarthy thought he had it.

Lastly, all of this also opened my eyes to the "conservative" pundit frauds out there. They talked a good talk for years, but were some of the strongest against the 20. I have unfollowed all of them.

Fox is as progressive as any of the msm. But Fox has found they fill a niche with old guard Republicans who for far too long believed anyone with an R in front of their name. We have seen what the GOP swamp looks like over the past few years and many have had their eyes opened by the stench of DC. If Tucker seems to be the only voice speaking consistent truth, it’s because the powers that be at Fox want it that way. While Tucker does deep dives into topics no one else does, he hits and then leaves. Months after J6, he finally looked at closer to what it was than anyone, but it took months! And where is he now on it? Why is he not demanding video footage be revealed of that day. I understand for many he is the only one to go out on the limb, but telling everyone to be constantly afraid doesn’t help anything. Tucker is just that click bait used on the opposite end of the spectrum. His popularity, though is what keeps Fox afloat, hence why he is there.

Expand full comment

What I take away from all this is that my positions (political and otherwise) must be subject to constant review. I must test everything I hear. I can't blindly lean on entertainers, or pundits, or news sources, or even *cough* Jeff and the C&C Army.

I value the comments section here and other places because people are offering their perspectives, and it allows me to think through everything. I don't love political parties because their great aim is to acquire and maintain power. To get there, they must homogenize ideology so they can build a fortress around their power. Right now, it appears that the D party is better at that than the R party is, but it would be a mistake to believe that the R organization doesn't want to homogenize ideology and vote monolithically. Ultimately, we always must be vigilant about the ever-present tyranny of political parties.

I hope Tony Gonzales does vote 'no' on the new rules provided that he votes 'no' on them because he thinks they are bad for the county, not because he resents others standing up for what they think is best for the country. Resentment as the prime mover in governing is a big problem for us, and the "victim" class set up by government programs plays heavily on resentment.

A good read, I always like your common sense approach to the big *C. However, I have two home tests sitting in my cupboard courtesy of my government which I refuse to even try. What would have been your reaction if your tests had been positive? Would you have denounced the tests or would some small grain of doubt have crept in? Advertising at it’s most devious. Glad you are recovered.

Why don't you try those tests on, say, an apple and/or a papaya ... and then post the positive results on social media.

I was very interested in the New College news. Way back in the 80's I was interested in going there since it was near my family home. However, even then, it was very liberal. It was a hippie environment in a preppy world. A professor there told me she did not believe in homework - and that was 40 years ago! I quickly moved to a less liberal private college in Central Florida. These folks will need to do an entire overhaul of the college, as it has only gotten worse. I think once they are able to do that the student population will come, just as the professors are already applying.

Being from Michigan, I can not say enough good things about Hillsdale College. If they seek to make New College more like Hillsdale, they are on the right track. The very success of Hillsdale in the corrupt state of Michigan tells you that people know about them and are willing to support them.

A big job. Chris Rufo is a fantastic start. A second Hillsdale would be more than visionary. He stated he’s overrun with applicants. I imagine.

I, for one, am proud of the Republican Party for what occurred. Disagreement and debating should be acceptable in our country. The alternative of the Democratic Party is agree and comply or you’ll be cancelled, smeared or even worse.

Good for DeSantis re: Reedy Creek. Disney is the example, if he backs down then he'd be done. Every day I'm amazed how DeSantis follows through with what he says.

👏👏👏😄😄 High 5 and kudos to you, Jeff! You outdid yourself today. Wow! "It could have been worse" and the taco bell chalupo reference are only 2 of the great items in today's blog. I grinned the entire time reading this, twice. I know I will be rereading again. Your pen was sharp and very witting today. Always a good read but today was superb! 🤩

Regarding moms,

(1) declaring oneself female doesn’t make one female, so of course it doesn’t make one automatically a mother. Of course, we all know that.

(2) don’t for a minute pretend that a dad (male) can fill with equal finesse and grace the role that a mom (female) fills in the life of a child, anymore than I as a mom can fill the role my husband fills in the life of our kiddo. Two distinct and vitally important, God-created roles. We still laugh that when our kiddo was about five months old and began to say “dada,” kiddo still called for MAAAAMAAAA when there was a need for food, comfort, or just being held. The pattern remains even now, many years later. 😆

And I will happily ask my husband to speak to kiddo when kiddo is just not listening to mom, needs a dad’s convincing that no, x, y,or a really is not a good idea, or wants to talk about guns and knives and cars. I can listen. But I just don’t care as much as my husband. 😀

One of the reasons that divorce is so disruptive is because it disrupts the kids’ opportunities to have both mom and dad together in the same household. And yes, I fully recognize that divorce is sometimes an unwelcome and unwanted necessity, so no need to go there.

I agree with all of this. That said, I think the Ecuadorian man referenced was just trying to turn the tables on the system in to be in his favor by claiming to be a mom even though he isn’t a woman and has no intention of being trans or anything else. This whole idea of, if you feel like whatever gender that is what you are, is being turned on its head and I think it is a great way to expose the absolute absurdity of it all.

Also your point about having both a mother and a father is also what is missing with gay couples who have children.

Yes, I think you are right about the man. He is just using the situation to his advantage.

As I was raising my children (now adults) I could understand the need for both a father and a mother. A mother is more intuitive and perceptive, but as a child gets older, they need the benign neglect of a father to succed. Mothers try to rescue too much. A father will let children burn off their eyebrows at a campout (true story). Whenever my child fell down at the playground, I had to force myself to sit, look away and let him figure out he was OK. Other mothers were saying, "aren't you going to go check on him?" When my son applied to West Point, the congressional staffer called my husband to ask about paperwork. My husband said to call our son, he was doing it, not us. The staffer was speechless. She said she's never seen the applicant do his own paperwork. For WEST POINT! What the heck? I never did my kids college applications or enroll them. It's on them. Their life belongs to them.

This story reminds me of the "Mrs. Doubtfire" movie.

My children said baba before mama, but I have repeatedly told them had it not been for their mama they may not have made it to adulthood. Both have a vital but distinct role to play in upbringing

You got me all excited when I read a Democrat called the $1.7T bill bad for our children and grandchildren. I thought, HALLELUJAH, a Dem seeing the HUGE issue of National Debt, again, as the Dems once did decades ago...

Then the let down: she's a Freedom Caucus Republican. National debt is a tenet here... deep sigh...MOVING ON 🤣🤣
