I love this! I’ve always loved being outdoors, but the subjects at hand lately seem to make it a necessity….avoid media and cling to reality. I promise to walk my dog every day. He’s a rescue Husky that was dumped at our house last spring. Their loss, my gain, I need his companionship as much as he needs mine.
My garden needs attention too. All of these things are grounding rods.
Yes He send your pup to you…my 16 year old Cattle Dog sent me my Tuxedo cat Bubby, who appeared in my backyard the day I brought her ashes home. He was being ‘kitty sat’ by the neighbor for a couch surfing young woman. My neighbor is allergic to cats…I said he could stay with me. I knew straight away that young woman was never going to get her cat back! 🙀😻
Our little dogs get a walk of over a mile every day except when the snow is too deep. It is little over a month to be warm enough here to prep a garden. These warm days may wreck and confuse my apple and peach trees again. Still teens lots of nights then days hitting 60s.
It’s the mercurial time of year. We’ve already had a day that hit 80°, with predictions of an early spring. But the traditional ‘last freeze’ date here, is April 15, so we’re at the stage of cleaning out and tilling.
Good to know someone else hangs their clothes to dry outside. I've done this my whole life, inspired, no doubt, by the fact that my mother did the same.
Grew up that way and was washing clothes in a wringer washing machine, hanging them on the line and ironing them by the time I was about 8 yrs old. I grew up in rural Nova Scotia. However, in some areas here in Ontario, you are not allowed to have a clothesline because it's an "eyesore" for the neighbours - go figure...
In Ohio farmland we washed and stretched curtains out in the yard on curtain stretchers. They are pins all around a rectangle wooden form and you had to put the edges of the curtains on those pins...lots of pricked fingers ensued. OF course we also hung our wash out on the clothes line with wooden clothespins and they blew and got dry in the sun. So nice.
There’s nothing better than crawling into bed with clean sheets hung out to dry in the sun & wind smelling like Nature. One of life’s great pleasures!!
Last 2 neighborhoods I choose to buy and live in, have had NO HOAs. When asked why, I say we get along better, aren't busy bodies and are not bougie trying to be chi chi.... (middle class trying to ape the upper class stuck up pretentious lot)
48 years ago my daughter came home from hospital with allergic diaper rash from disposable diapers. Dr. Blood (I know, creepy name but she was a caring, dear older woman) said put her in cloth diapers that have been washed and hung on the line to dry. Put her on her tummy, bare bottom, in her bassinet by a window with sunshine for some time each day. Cleared it right up!
My daughter had real dipey-rash problems with her cloth-diapered firstborn--except when she was visiting with us--much hotter water and line dried dipes.
We are waiting for winter to release its grip in my area; there is nothing better than sun dried sheets off the line! As for walks, my little mini Bernie doodle and I never miss a day no matter the weather. What God lays before me in our landscape of His creation I thank Him for and take it all in. 🙏
This discussion brought back many memories from my childhood and Grandma's house. So I just looked up the code for clotheslines at single family homes in my county (none) and state (MD - of course there's something!). An HOA or historical designation could cause an issue, but otherwise it's fine. There's something about "aesthetic values" but I wasn't going to put it in the front yard, fcol.

Pruned our muscadines 2 weeks ago. My blueberries are covered in weeds, but have my brushcutter attachment to take to the farm with me tomorrow. Had to replant 3 pecan trees that died/deer rubbed and will die this past weekend.
Planted about 20 fruit trees shortly after moving here 36 years ago. Only 8 remain. '22, when a large mulberry fell, opening up a lot of light, I considered what to do with this new gift of 'real estate'--and put in 5 stone fruits (because they should be juglone-tolerant) and a number of ribes. Then I was moved to consider a border hedgerow, thought it unproductive, so Nov. '22 ripped it out and rebuilt and enlarged it last spring with more elderberries, hazels, 9 pomes. Next, considered our north corner, never used, and just a tangle--so in Dec. removed the rampant honeysuckle, started a brush fence, plan on more hazels. Having put in a fence to protect from people on other side, decided that's a place for more fruits--so 5 stones go in there next month. I think this is the equivalent of people re-doing their interiors when they re-think the use of same.
School’s Out: we planted walnut trees and lost some to deer rubbing. Then discovered bar soap is a deer repellent. We drilled holes in a piece of soap, threadded rope through and tied it to a branch. Saved our trees until they could ‘fend for themselves’ 😊
My idiot self did not put the cages (that 4x2 livestock wire that comes in rolls) around these. We planted between them with field corn for the wildlife and just didn't think about it this year. Trees were 3-4 years old, too. Dangit, but did plant new ones a little further apart to allow more spacing, at least. We've got a few walnuts on property, but none are very large. I sit under a 30'er when dove hunting and don't plan to cut it down, even though it is on edge of our field.
Do you know the pH of your soil? Blueberries will be very very very unhappy unless they have a very low pH. Getting soil tested by a soil lab is one of the most economical moves, IMHO--all sorts of crucial info comes back (as long as you don't use PennState as the lab)
No. I actually grow them in large 40-gallon containers. Peet moss has worked great for lowing the PH levels. I know blueberries like it even lower than raspberries and blackberries. I can add more organic matter and even sulfur to lower it more. If I do have issues with it, I can send a soil sample to Texas AM Agriculture Department to have it tested. I've thought about getting one of those PH meters but too many mixed reviews.
Let me add to that list: toothpaste WITHOUT fluoride! Fluoride worsens Alzheimer’s according to my holistic doctor, maybe even causes it. (I always thought it was the aluminum in flu shots.)
Fluoride toothpaste story: So, after the jabs started, my husband (not jabbed but around his coworkers who were) developed a severe itchy rash. Dr.’s appointments galore, found he was allergic to sudsing agents like in toothpaste. We switched to Beaver toothpaste (fluoride free). Our hygienist asked what we’re doing differently because descaling didn’t need to be as rigorous! Amazing!!BTW, once my husband quit his job, it took 10 months of not being around jabbed people for his rash to go away.
Once I started the one linked below in 2021 I have had no teeth issues nor sensitivity or pain. I try to stay out of dentists offices. Money grabbers and x ray overuse and nasty amalgams.
I bought dental tools at the start of the scamdemic because my dentist of 40+ yrs fired all his unvaccinated patients! I gently remove my own tarter. It’s actually very easy if you have the right tools 🤣
This makes me smile, my hubs hasn’t been to a dentist in 10 years and recently purchased some dental tools, I thought he was crazy but think he was ahead of the game as no dental issues.
I also question a frequent use of x-ray. If I’m not mistaken they want you to do it once a year. What is a cumulative effect of the annual use for decades? I think if you focus on dental hygiene it’s really unnecessary unless you develop an issue that needs to be looked at
I only went once a year and they always insisted on another full set. I guess I get it. My previous dentist retired so there we go again. I don’t go much anymore. I eat clean. Have no problems. My crown are still intact. In my youth a ii had a couple of brutal butchers who absolutely hurt me and one left the whole side of my face bruised and swollen after he pinched my inner mouth in a Pliers he was using for an extraction. He ignored my pleas and pounding on the armrests He was way past retirement and he was cheap in our poor days of married life.
I never gave much thought to flouride, despite being a Birkenstock wearer (my Texas grandmother called them "them ole' turkey feet"), but I read a book on thyroid (now somewhere in a moving-to-a-red-state box), which discussed how the type of flouride put in the water supply was switched at some point to an industrial waste product, which is now causing an epidemic of thyroid problems. Just try to get a mainstream medicine doctor to diagnose and test for any of the "subclinical" problems being caused. I actually once folded my hands prayerfully beseeching an endocrinologist to test for T-3 and he just shucked and jived me. Thyroid is as crucial as D, causes all sorts of other systemic problems, so deficiencies and dysregulation are lucrative. Primum nocere!
With CoVid, I didn’t go to the dentist for 2 years (used to go every 6 months for cleaning and checkups). I kept up with my regular dental hygiene at home, but added rinse/gargle with half solution of 3% hydrogen peroxide (more for CoVid prevention than dental though it does seem to keep teeth white as well). Well when I went, I had minimal tartar build up, no problems at all. I refused the X-rays (since I have learned a lot in the last few years!). My dentist was okay with it, but he did make a point of saying that though my teeth looked good, he could not definitively say so since he didn’t have the pics between my teeth and I should come again in 6 months. Not likely-the bill for that 45 min session was almost $300. Retired now without a dental plan anymore. I think I will keep up my own routine.
I’ve decided that if they can’t see or feel a small cavity between my teeth, I’m not gonna let the drill out half a healthy tooth to get to it. Learned that the hard way when our peds specialist filled a whole bunch of soft spots on our kid that i learned later may have remineralized on their own. 🤬
I understand your position as I had no dental work done for almost 5 years after the dentist I used moved quite suddenly and surreptitiously back to his home state of HI (loved that guy--he was gentle and thorough). I lost TWO MOLARS in those 5 years and now I have a partial denture on the left side (lower molars) that I got when I started going to a dentist once more. Even though my Medicare/Advantage plan has dental coverage, my dentist does not accept it. I tried finding another dentist that was "in network" with this Advantage plan--no one would take "new patients" with that Plan (even though the Advantage Plan had these dental offices as "In Network" on their website!

My regular dentist I've been using for 3 years since I moved here takes this private dental insurance--so now I won't have to lay out $150 every time I visit for my 6 month check up! I agree. I went to the dentist last year with a chipped tooth. His assistant said she had to take an X-ray before I saw him. I refused. She said he had to see the X-ray to see if the tooth was chipped. “Look”, I said. “SEE? It’s chipped.” She reluctantly said Oh yeah, OK.
They want the payment for the radiation as well as looking in your mouth!
Different over here in France. They don’t want to see you for a check-up. It doesn’t pay enough. You have to wait till you have a real problem. Why would they bother spending 30 mins doing a check-up on someone for 60 euros when they can put an implant in someone else in the same time for 1000?.....

Interesting point. I ran out of my fluoride-free dentifrice about two weeks ago. Remembered that when youngest was small, I used Neutrogena soap on her toothbrush: none of the stinging effect of toothpaste in a tiny's tender mouth. Quite pleasant, really, so I often used it myself. So--out of toothpaste, thought 'what if I used my [homemade] soap? On the weekend I realized that my teeth felt smoother-than they do except right after a dental de-scaling.
There is actually a product out there called “Tooth Soap” and it works quite well. I read years back that the presence of glycerine in toothpaste inhibits the ability of teeth to re-enamel, so I try to avoid health food store brands with it, but mostly all toothpastes include it. (Not sure if the natural glycerine created in soap is an issue.) If this is true, it makes sense that commercial companies add it - more trips to the dentist. Sadly, I view them the same as most doctors now.
Bronner's Peppermint does it for me. I can't use foaming toothpaste after using a non-foaming one. All I can think of is soap & soap in the mouth once, as a kid was enough 😜

I avoid xylitol - my body does not like it (used it as a sugar alternative and let's just say it blew right through me). I knew this but tried a toothpaste with xylitol anyway (duh) and after I rinsed and looked in the mirror my mouth had an angry red rash wherever the toothpaste touched my skin! So, it's toxic to banjocat's too ;)
I had to use Sensodyne for a couple of years and then ran out and went back to basic stuff and had no sensitivity. Not sure why. I've tried the Tom's charcoal toothpaste and just bought Hello at local Publix. Hoping my Berkey filter with the flouride filters works. I guess though at this point the damage is done. I'm no spring chicken! But still I try.
A few years ago every toothpaste I tired burned my mouth. I have no idea why. Even Sensodyne burned my mouth. I tried every sensitive mouth brand out there and some were pretty darn expensive; they ALL burned. Since then I went to brushing with plain baking soda. And now I’m told that adding coconut oil to the baking soda would help prevent plaque/tartar, so I plan to add that. There is also a process called OIL PULLING (with coconut oil) that helps eliminate plaque that leads to tartar. Anyone interested might look that up.
Many people claim that baking soda is too hard on tooth enamel, but if you look up on the Mohs Hardness Scale, it is actually softer than some of the top selling toothpaste brands! I wouldn’t scrub your teeth hard with any toothpaste however, including baking soda.
Reading here on C&C about Borax for teeth cleaning, so I may add that to my homemade toothpaste. I have tried adding human consumption activated charcoal. It’s fine if you don’t mind the black mess.
Also, wanted to mention that an older and trusted dentist mentioned that in dental circles they advocate adding a few drops of liquid dish soap to your rinse or waterpik water as they are discovering the old times solution to the problem of plaque was creating a slick soap film on the teeth to discourage plaque from forming was still a good idea today. I added it to my waterpic water and I was expecting a really horrible taste, but to my surprise I didn’t notice it at all.
I’ve done oil pulling with coconut oil and it whitens my teeth and makes my gums pinker and healthier looking and feeling. Coconut oil has antibacterial properties from what I’ve read.
I wonder if that explains my discovery, that since I have been using my homemade soap as dentifrice, my teeth feel smoother. This experiment has only gone on for about two weeks, however.
Gee! Just had my teeth cleaned in January and my hygienist said the same thing about my teeth! I’ve switched to Tom’s fluoride-free about 8 months ago.
Check out Alpha gal syndrome. It starts slowly with reactions just like this. Most doctors have never heard of it. This allergen is in the vaccines, and can explain many of the s”uddenly died” cases.

I have a rash on my rib that won't go away where the seat belt rubs but wife and I were never jabbed. My brother in law was and we are stuck with him living with us. He is now sick all the time with sore throat and cough.
I’ll remember that! I’m slowly transitioning out of long term low carb and keto. It’s not easy as I add carbs(mostly easy to digest simple carbs like fruit, juice, dairy etc.) my body needs to adjust to being a sugar burner again—the bodies preferred fuel. It has given me some gut issues. Charcoal has helped a lot to get my gut familiar with the new fuel. Keto low carb caused several health issues long term. Keto gurus gloss over the stress put on our organs,bones and soft tissue it does by restricting proper fuel and not stress pathway fuel.
Thankfully for the major part of my life I’ve lived on well and septic so no fluoride in my water. However I did have treatments from the dentist and the toothpaste growing up. I now use fluoride free toothpaste and I’m still on well water. I find it interesting at my age (66) the dentists are still pushing fluoride treatments.
We have our own well. Babies raised without fluoridated water. However, schools, restaurants, city buildings, etc., I am sure all use fluoridation, so one cannot get away from it unless one never leaves the house.
My first two children were born to well water, but the doctor advised fluoride tablets--and not being savvy (1978-87) I went along. 3rd child born to municipal water, not fluoridated, and I don't recall fluoride tablets for her.
And everything you put on your skin and hair. It all goes into the skin. I haven't used shampoo for probably 5 years. I use other home items. Locally made creams with lard for skin.
Before modern canning this was one way to preserve food, seal it with lard. Learned this from an old gentleman from church. He was so rich with how to live and farm. He grew up without electricity until he was well into his adult years and grew up without a mother with many siblings. His job was to make the biscuits every morning. In his teen years, he would hunt for animals and sell their pelts for money. What a different world we live in today. I won't say better because it's not. Things were difficult back in those days, but at least things were sane.
I once read that boys in the South would take their rifles to school, put them in their lockers ... and then hunt on the way home. That seems to me likely in old, old America, and what a different world that was.

Ohh, VVV — you prolly don’t want to do that! Winter is a great time to pick up some pork fat from a place that offers good, nut-raised (+ good stuff) pig meat for your freezer. Ask for some fat (the organ/interior fat [leaf lard] is for baking; the outer fat for everything else.) All kinds of goodness!
Render that fat on the stove ( use the delicious cracklings) & do whatever you like with the resulting lard. Tallow from beef & elk is great too. Any pastured animal or fowl’s fat is super for frying. (Fried chicken? Spuds? Oboy — Impunity !
Baking soda diluted in warm water makes a nice sudsy wash for your hair; followed with a vinegar rinse (warm water and apple cider vinegar), you have a nice alternative to commercial shampoo.
I have been using this 'No Poo' method for the last five years.
I started it initially as a way to reduce consumption of disposable
plastic products. But is also a good way to avoid the toxic chemicals in commercial shampoos. I brush my teeth with the baking soda at the same time, not harmful if swallowed.
When I was a young teen, my father (who was a little boy during the Great Depression) showed me how to use ordinary table salt (which foams up quite nicely) for toothpaste. He had lots of folk methods for cleanliness and basic survival born out of necessity.

Dilute the baking soda well. I'd say in a quart of water, put about 1/4 cup of baking soda. Also for the vinegar rinse--dilute well, or it will sting your eyes a bit. Probably the same ratios. My hair is long and thick, so I actually double all of those amounts using 1/2 gallon jugs.
I have been known to walk around for a couple hours with tallow worked into my scalp. And then throw a couple egg yokes on before rinsing out and then using my usual cleaner and rinse. Sounds like breakfast on my head 🤣😅
Usually rhassoul clay for a cleaner and apple cider vinegar for rinse. I also use comfrey tea for my rinse, but I have run out until it grows again this summer
At which time it will do its usual "I'm taking over this whole garden, try to stop me!" thing. But very easy to pull up (and turn into fermented fertilizer).
I got on the fluoride free ride many years ago. You can buy NOW brand Xyli-White toothpaste anywhere health products are sold. I use Amazon more than I’d like, but buy local as much as possible.
I had to use it for awhile when I had mouth problems and most toothpaste was too harsh. There's a whole range of toothpastes for children, as it turns out. I can't say it cleaned my teeth very well. For children, it's probably just to get them used to the idea of brushing their teeth.
ANY aluminum, anywhere, adds to the burden. Shooting aluminum into your body, past your God-given protections/filters, like skin, stomach acid, gallbladder, your liver, which can help filter out some of the toxins, assures that you get a huge dose BUT the daily delivery of flouride is really bad as well.

I tried to research the “sharing” of unknown DNA via cell line manufacturing of injectables a few years ago (my, how time flies!), and found only one comment to the effect”we’re not going there.” Not being tech savvy, I couldn’t save it. I started searching for how to sterilize DNA and branched out from there. It certainly would explain the explosion of gender confusion in recent generations.

I don't think smoking is a good idea, I was three packs a day 40 years ago, quit cold turkey. Been looking for a mostly benign nicotine delivery system for years, then saw Tucker C touting the pouches. Wife (who was also 3 packs/day and quit before I did) and I like them. Zyn, On!, Rogue, all good. Never heard they do anything for COVID, but they're a better indulgence than cookies and other junk, pretty sure of that. And they do sharpen the mind - it's well-known to be a nootropic. YMMV, but they've caught on for a reason.

Only allowing politically correct commentary predates COVID, smoking is a good example. Almost NEVER is the obvious connection between decline of smoking and the obesity epidemic mentioned. I'll never pick up another cigarette after quitting 40 years ago, but if I had to choose between being grossly overweight or smoking, I'd choose smoking. That's the trade many made. There are other factors, no doubt. HFCS, veg oils, estrogenic chemicals everywhere. Personally I think Glyphosate is likely a big culprit. But there's no doubt a cigarette is less fattening than a cookie.
Absolutely true. Most people at times want SOMETHING to indulge in. I have no way of knowing for sure which is worse, cookies, cake, candy and chips, or pure nicotine. I'm inclined to indulge in a little nicotine in lieu of the junk. If you go all day, every day, with no desire to indulge in anything other than pure water and healthy food, you are a very lucky person, presuming you are able to be happy that way. I've never been overweight at all, and only smoked for 13 of my 73 years. I can still say for sure smoking greatly reduces the urge to overeat.
Rosalind: those pink tablets did not have fluoride in them. The dye turns the plaque on teeth pink, as an indicator of where the person missed while brushing. But, the lollipop as incentive is a head-shaker. 😏

I love feeding my starter every morning after i start a boule of no kneed bread..... Check out Sunrise Flour mill they use a process of bursting the kernel that retains more structure in flour plus bonus for gluten intolerance this flour doesn't cause issues.
I do not mean to be discourteous here, but I have long questioned the 'no-knead' idea. When I am engaged in the act (which I do really enjoy) I am much aware of the work-out it gives to my arms and wrists.
We avoided bread until I started milling wheat berries for flour. Now for GI tract health, I eat one slice everyday for the vitamins, protein and fiber it offers. Plus! Had my first really successful loaves of sourdough yesterday using part milled, part bread flour. For practicing the art, I bake more than we can eat so my poor neighbors, family and friends consent to taking a loaf. Nice people who give nice reviews!
You can make those loaves 100% fresh ground flour, I’ve been doing that recently. Boosts the nutrition considerably. There’s a lady on YouTube (Elly’s Everyday Wholegrain Sourdough channel) who has a few videos with recipes. Since 100% fresh ground is harder to work with, it’s nice to have her direction.
I’ve had two starters that were given to me but both went bad because I didn’t use it (feed it) soon enough! But it’s on my list of things to learn! Have you?

Actually, I understand and appreciate your position. It’s one that I, and surely many others, have entertained in the past. I don’t pretend to have any answers, but I can tell you what my thoughts are about completely ditching the Ds and Rs….for what it’s worth.
In recent history, the most successful 3rd party candidate has been Ross Perot in 1992 with about 19% of the popular vote. There have been others (like Nader) who accomplish little more than to garner blame for the loss of one candidate or the other. By most accounts, Perot’s run resulted in the loss of Bush to Clinton.
So, the question is whether taking a “principled stand” by voting for a non-viable candidate, thereby diminishing the chances of the candidate one would have voted for is a reasonable, constructive course of action? There are many who support your position, and I respect that. On the other hand, there are many (like myself) who believe that such a course of action, principled though it may be, would very well ensure another four years of devastating “leadership” that this country can ill afford. Perhaps it's a tough choice, but it's a choice that one must make nonetheless.
That said, one more thought…if you really want to “stop the cartel,” then maybe you should consider the one candidate who the “cartel" absolutely loathes and is desperately working to remove from contention at any cost. Just a thought...

I incubated last year, from eggs that my chickens laid (obviously I have a rooster too!). Ten of 20 hatched, and EIGHT of them were roosters! So they're in the freezer and now I just buy pullets at Tractor Supply. When the SHTF then we'll incubate again and just get what we get!
Been out taking care of my garden the past year and loving every minute of it. Growing cabbage, carrots, cucumbers, jalapeños, tomatoes, chives, cilantro, lettuce, spinach, onions, garlic, strawberries and bell peppers!! It’s a learning process in Florida but it’s been so great! I have a Meyer lemon tree I’ve been babying for the last year and I have blooms!!!! So excited!!! Can’t wait for pesticide free lemons too! 🙌
I also recently found a supplier for fresh, grass fed, non vaxxed, no antibiotics, no hormones beef! I’m so excited. And that happened because I was looking for beef liver for my dog and her new raw diet!! It’s been so great. I’m glad I’m putting in the time to research and figure all this out. Found raw milk and whole fresh chickens with no antibiotics or hormones and vaxxes just real chicken!

My parents hardly EVER when to a doctor for "common ailments (colds, flu, measels, mumps, impetigo). Sometimes, Mom would CALL the doctor and, if he wasn't too gusy, he would make HOUSE CALLS (and we were no living in the town proper--about 2 miles outside our small town). Mom ALWAYS hung out her laundry--even in winter (it would freeze and eventually "dry" - Mom said the sheets were whiter after they froze--I don't know if that's true or not - smile!). I saw a movie last night called "Incident in a Small Town" and it was set in the early 1950's (starred Walter Matthau, Harry Morgan & Stephanie Zimbalist--watch it on Tubi if you are interested). The way people were living (tightknit communities - some people were gossipy--but most just "looked out" for their neighbors if they were in dire circumstances). That's one reason I joined Facebook in 2009--it reminded me of the "backyard gossip fence - when we would play (the kids) and the adults would talk and sip coffee or beverages and just "share" with one another!! INNOCENT TIMES - I long for them now that I am "closeted" in my very nice home but feel like a "desert island". THAT'S THE MAIN REASON I STAY ON "C & C" ARMY posts - I feel our "sharing" and it brightens my heart and mind.

Same here, but I don't think I could make it. I'm not outdoorsy, I sunburn easily, and cannot do anything gardening wise (I literally kill plants I touch). I also don't know if I could live without my books to read (which I use my Kindle for) and air conditioning...otherwise, I think I could live in an Amish community, at least one that allows plumbing...
Oh, they read books, they have library cards, not everyone gardens, and the ice house is cool! They hire drivers and travel the country side, and there are communities that use indoor plumbing.

I did. I took on the second largest HOA in my state and won my fight. And then the residents voted the same people back into power. I got a real taste for how apathetic most people are. And the ones who aren't apathetic are extremely hostile. I've been thinking a lot about what I can do in this election. I'm not convinced this is an issue that can be solved by men. I believe ultimately our salvation will come from fasting and prayer, humbling ourselves before God and asking His forgiveness, but I know most people don't consider that "making a difference."

Even if flouride were 100% safe and prevented all cavities, why would it be allowed to be added to a municipal water system? It is not part of a process to make the water safe for drinking. It is an additive for supposed health benefits. I never gave the water authority consent to dose me.

I haven't been to a dentist in over a decade, but back when I used to go, they would offer that fluoride at the end. I did it once and it made me so sick that I refused it afterwords. You don't have to take it. I'm glad I didn't. I also started using iodine; every cell in your body utilizes iodine. Fluoride and bromide (a common additive to store bought bread) both inactivate iodine.

Didn't notice any difference in taking it versus not taking it, then switched to 5% solution and now I can tell when I don't take it because my brain feels foggy and tired. I am amazed that one drop once a day provides benefits. I've thought about increasing my dose to see what happens.

You can't get the 5% on Amazon. You have to order directly from J. Crow and you can only order one bottle at a time. So they've added chemicals to our food and drink that block iodine absorption and then have very strict laws about the sale of iodine.

Last night, I attended an event that began by showing a movie about sex trafficking and then listened to a panel of experts speak. The panel included FBI, sheriff, our chief of police, many in healthcare, and one woman who has fostered over 200 children and adopted 11. Many of her children were rescued from trafficking. I couldn’t believe what a problem it is in our tiny community. One of the things that really stood out was how frustrated law enforcement is with the current laws. They have only had one of their recent 8 arrests spend any amount of time in jail, and that was because he was illegal and they kept him here until he could be deported. One prominent pediatrician showed up to have sex with what he thought was a 14 year old, was busted, and spent 6 days in jail. That’s it. The laws do not take care of the victims.

On other fun notes about outages, yesterday at the pharmacy, the connection to two large insurance companies went down. On a regular day, our computers automatically connect to all insurance companies so we can show the customer what their actual payment is. That died yesterday and as of the time I left, it was still down. I don't know if it was our system, which is older than dirt, or the insurance companies. I think it was them. We've never had a problem before.

I love this! I’ve always loved being outdoors, but the subjects at hand lately seem to make it a necessity….avoid media and cling to reality. I promise to walk my dog every day. He’s a rescue Husky that was dumped at our house last spring. Their loss, my gain, I need his companionship as much as he needs mine.

Our little dogs get a walk of over a mile every day except when the snow is too deep. It is little over a month to be warm enough here to prep a garden. These warm days may wreck and confuse my apple and peach trees again. Still teens lots of nights then days hitting 60s.
It’s the mercurial time of year. We’ve already had a day that hit 80°, with predictions of an early spring. But the traditional ‘last freeze’ date here, is April 15, so we’re at the stage of cleaning out and tilling.
Good to know someone else hangs their clothes to dry outside. I've done this my whole life, inspired, no doubt, by the fact that my mother did the same.
Grew up that way and was washing clothes in a wringer washing machine, hanging them on the line and ironing them by the time I was about 8 yrs old. I grew up in rural Nova Scotia. However, in some areas here in Ontario, you are not allowed to have a clothesline because it's an "eyesore" for the neighbours - go figure...
In Ohio farmland we washed and stretched curtains out in the yard on curtain stretchers. They are pins all around a rectangle wooden form and you had to put the edges of the curtains on those pins...lots of pricked fingers ensued. OF course we also hung our wash out on the clothes line with wooden clothespins and they blew and got dry in the sun. So nice.

48 years ago my daughter came home from hospital with allergic diaper rash from disposable diapers. Dr. Blood (I know, creepy name but she was a caring, dear older woman) said put her in cloth diapers that have been washed and hung on the line to dry. Put her on her tummy, bare bottom, in her bassinet by a window with sunshine for some time each day. Cleared it right up!
My daughter had real dipey-rash problems with her cloth-diapered firstborn--except when she was visiting with us--much hotter water and line dried dipes.
My midwife’s husband (retired ob/gyn) told me to hang my diapers in the sun to disinfect them when I was still preg with my first child. Always best

Pruned our muscadines 2 weeks ago. My blueberries are covered in weeds, but have my brushcutter attachment to take to the farm with me tomorrow. Had to replant 3 pecan trees that died/deer rubbed and will die this past weekend.
Planted about 20 fruit trees shortly after moving here 36 years ago. Only 8 remain. '22, when a large mulberry fell, opening up a lot of light, I considered what to do with this new gift of 'real estate'--and put in 5 stone fruits (because they should be juglone-tolerant) and a number of ribes. Then I was moved to consider a border hedgerow, thought it unproductive, so Nov. '22 ripped it out and rebuilt and enlarged it last spring with more elderberries, hazels, 9 pomes. Next, considered our north corner, never used, and just a tangle--so in Dec. removed the rampant honeysuckle, started a brush fence, plan on more hazels. Having put in a fence to protect from people on other side, decided that's a place for more fruits--so 5 stones go in there next month. I think this is the equivalent of people re-doing their interiors when they re-think the use of same.
School’s Out: we planted walnut trees and lost some to deer rubbing. Then discovered bar soap is a deer repellent. We drilled holes in a piece of soap, threadded rope through and tied it to a branch. Saved our trees until they could ‘fend for themselves’ 😊
My idiot self did not put the cages (that 4x2 livestock wire that comes in rolls) around these. We planted between them with field corn for the wildlife and just didn't think about it this year. Trees were 3-4 years old, too. Dangit, but did plant new ones a little further apart to allow more spacing, at least. We've got a few walnuts on property, but none are very large. I sit under a 30'er when dove hunting and don't plan to cut it down, even though it is on edge of our field.

Do you know the pH of your soil? Blueberries will be very very very unhappy unless they have a very low pH. Getting soil tested by a soil lab is one of the most economical moves, IMHO--all sorts of crucial info comes back (as long as you don't use PennState as the lab)
No. I actually grow them in large 40-gallon containers. Peet moss has worked great for lowing the PH levels. I know blueberries like it even lower than raspberries and blackberries. I can add more organic matter and even sulfur to lower it more. If I do have issues with it, I can send a soil sample to Texas AM Agriculture Department to have it tested. I've thought about getting one of those PH meters but too many mixed reviews.

Let me add to that list: toothpaste WITHOUT fluoride! Fluoride worsens Alzheimer’s according to my holistic doctor, maybe even causes it. (I always thought it was the aluminum in flu shots.)
Fluoride toothpaste story: So, after the jabs started, my husband (not jabbed but around his coworkers who were) developed a severe itchy rash. Dr.’s appointments galore, found he was allergic to sudsing agents like in toothpaste. We switched to Beaver toothpaste (fluoride free). Our hygienist asked what we’re doing differently because descaling didn’t need to be as rigorous! Amazing!!BTW, once my husband quit his job, it took 10 months of not being around jabbed people for his rash to go away.

I only went once a year and they always insisted on another full set. I guess I get it. My previous dentist retired so there we go again. I don’t go much anymore. I eat clean. Have no problems. My crown are still intact. In my youth a ii had a couple of brutal butchers who absolutely hurt me and one left the whole side of my face bruised and swollen after he pinched my inner mouth in a Pliers he was using for an extraction. He ignored my pleas and pounding on the armrests He was way past retirement and he was cheap in our poor days of married life.
I never gave much thought to flouride, despite being a Birkenstock wearer (my Texas grandmother called them "them ole' turkey feet"), but I read a book on thyroid (now somewhere in a moving-to-a-red-state box), which discussed how the type of flouride put in the water supply was switched at some point to an industrial waste product, which is now causing an epidemic of thyroid problems. Just try to get a mainstream medicine doctor to diagnose and test for any of the "subclinical" problems being caused. I actually once folded my hands prayerfully beseeching an endocrinologist to test for T-3 and he just shucked and jived me. Thyroid is as crucial as D, causes all sorts of other systemic problems, so deficiencies and dysregulation are lucrative. Primum nocere!
With CoVid, I didn’t go to the dentist for 2 years (used to go every 6 months for cleaning and checkups). I kept up with my regular dental hygiene at home, but added rinse/gargle with half solution of 3% hydrogen peroxide (more for CoVid prevention than dental though it does seem to keep teeth white as well). Well when I went, I had minimal tartar build up, no problems at all. I refused the X-rays (since I have learned a lot in the last few years!). My dentist was okay with it, but he did make a point of saying that though my teeth looked good, he could not definitively say so since he didn’t have the pics between my teeth and I should come again in 6 months. Not likely-the bill for that 45 min session was almost $300. Retired now without a dental plan anymore. I think I will keep up my own routine.
I’ve decided that if they can’t see or feel a small cavity between my teeth, I’m not gonna let the drill out half a healthy tooth to get to it. Learned that the hard way when our peds specialist filled a whole bunch of soft spots on our kid that i learned later may have remineralized on their own. 🤬
I understand your position as I had no dental work done for almost 5 years after the dentist I used moved quite suddenly and surreptitiously back to his home state of HI (loved that guy--he was gentle and thorough). I lost TWO MOLARS in those 5 years and now I have a partial denture on the left side (lower molars) that I got when I started going to a dentist once more. Even though my Medicare/Advantage plan has dental coverage, my dentist does not accept it. I tried finding another dentist that was "in network" with this Advantage plan--no one would take "new patients" with that Plan (even though the Advantage Plan had these dental offices as "In Network" on their website!

Different over here in France. They don’t want to see you for a check-up. It doesn’t pay enough. You have to wait till you have a real problem. Why would they bother spending 30 mins doing a check-up on someone for 60 euros when they can put an implant in someone else in the same time for 1000?.....

Interesting point. I ran out of my fluoride-free dentifrice about two weeks ago. Remembered that when youngest was small, I used Neutrogena soap on her toothbrush: none of the stinging effect of toothpaste in a tiny's tender mouth. Quite pleasant, really, so I often used it myself. So--out of toothpaste, thought 'what if I used my [homemade] soap? On the weekend I realized that my teeth felt smoother-than they do except right after a dental de-scaling.
There is actually a product out there called “Tooth Soap” and it works quite well. I read years back that the presence of glycerine in toothpaste inhibits the ability of teeth to re-enamel, so I try to avoid health food store brands with it, but mostly all toothpastes include it. (Not sure if the natural glycerine created in soap is an issue.) If this is true, it makes sense that commercial companies add it - more trips to the dentist. Sadly, I view them the same as most doctors now.

I avoid xylitol - my body does not like it (used it as a sugar alternative and let's just say it blew right through me). I knew this but tried a toothpaste with xylitol anyway (duh) and after I rinsed and looked in the mirror my mouth had an angry red rash wherever the toothpaste touched my skin! So, it's toxic to banjocat's too ;)

I had to use Sensodyne for a couple of years and then ran out and went back to basic stuff and had no sensitivity. Not sure why. I've tried the Tom's charcoal toothpaste and just bought Hello at local Publix. Hoping my Berkey filter with the flouride filters works. I guess though at this point the damage is done. I'm no spring chicken! But still I try.

I loved Hello’s charcoal floss! It was free of Teflon so I was disappointed they don’t sell it anymore. Will find something new hopefully.
A few years ago every toothpaste I tired burned my mouth. I have no idea why. Even Sensodyne burned my mouth. I tried every sensitive mouth brand out there and some were pretty darn expensive; they ALL burned. Since then I went to brushing with plain baking soda. And now I’m told that adding coconut oil to the baking soda would help prevent plaque/tartar, so I plan to add that. There is also a process called OIL PULLING (with coconut oil) that helps eliminate plaque that leads to tartar. Anyone interested might look that up.
Many people claim that baking soda is too hard on tooth enamel, but if you look up on the Mohs Hardness Scale, it is actually softer than some of the top selling toothpaste brands! I wouldn’t scrub your teeth hard with any toothpaste however, including baking soda.
Reading here on C&C about Borax for teeth cleaning, so I may add that to my homemade toothpaste. I have tried adding human consumption activated charcoal. It’s fine if you don’t mind the black mess.
Also, wanted to mention that an older and trusted dentist mentioned that in dental circles they advocate adding a few drops of liquid dish soap to your rinse or waterpik water as they are discovering the old times solution to the problem of plaque was creating a slick soap film on the teeth to discourage plaque from forming was still a good idea today. I added it to my waterpic water and I was expecting a really horrible taste, but to my surprise I didn’t notice it at all.
I’ve done oil pulling with coconut oil and it whitens my teeth and makes my gums pinker and healthier looking and feeling. Coconut oil has antibacterial properties from what I’ve read.
I wonder if that explains my discovery, that since I have been using my homemade soap as dentifrice, my teeth feel smoother. This experiment has only gone on for about two weeks, however.

I’ll remember that! I’m slowly transitioning out of long term low carb and keto. It’s not easy as I add carbs(mostly easy to digest simple carbs like fruit, juice, dairy etc.) my body needs to adjust to being a sugar burner again—the bodies preferred fuel. It has given me some gut issues. Charcoal has helped a lot to get my gut familiar with the new fuel. Keto low carb caused several health issues long term. Keto gurus gloss over the stress put on our organs,bones and soft tissue it does by restricting proper fuel and not stress pathway fuel.

Thankfully for the major part of my life I’ve lived on well and septic so no fluoride in my water. However I did have treatments from the dentist and the toothpaste growing up. I now use fluoride free toothpaste and I’m still on well water. I find it interesting at my age (66) the dentists are still pushing fluoride treatments.

We have our own well. Babies raised without fluoridated water. However, schools, restaurants, city buildings, etc., I am sure all use fluoridation, so one cannot get away from it unless one never leaves the house.
My first two children were born to well water, but the doctor advised fluoride tablets--and not being savvy (1978-87) I went along. 3rd child born to municipal water, not fluoridated, and I don't recall fluoride tablets for her.
And everything you put on your skin and hair. It all goes into the skin. I haven't used shampoo for probably 5 years. I use other home items. Locally made creams with lard for skin.
We harvest our own pigs and have canned lard. Pretty amazing stuff!!!!
Before modern canning this was one way to preserve food, seal it with lard. Learned this from an old gentleman from church. He was so rich with how to live and farm. He grew up without electricity until he was well into his adult years and grew up without a mother with many siblings. His job was to make the biscuits every morning. In his teen years, he would hunt for animals and sell their pelts for money. What a different world we live in today. I won't say better because it's not. Things were difficult back in those days, but at least things were sane.
I once read that boys in the South would take their rifles to school, put them in their lockers ... and then hunt on the way home. That seems to me likely in old, old America, and what a different world that was.

Ohh, VVV — you prolly don’t want to do that! Winter is a great time to pick up some pork fat from a place that offers good, nut-raised (+ good stuff) pig meat for your freezer. Ask for some fat (the organ/interior fat [leaf lard] is for baking; the outer fat for everything else.) All kinds of goodness!
Render that fat on the stove ( use the delicious cracklings) & do whatever you like with the resulting lard. Tallow from beef & elk is great too. Any pastured animal or fowl’s fat is super for frying. (Fried chicken? Spuds? Oboy — Impunity !

My daughter has eczema and uses tallow. It makes sense that we should not put anything on our skin that we can not eat.
Baking soda diluted in warm water makes a nice sudsy wash for your hair; followed with a vinegar rinse (warm water and apple cider vinegar), you have a nice alternative to commercial shampoo.
I have been using this 'No Poo' method for the last five years.
I started it initially as a way to reduce consumption of disposable
plastic products. But is also a good way to avoid the toxic chemicals in commercial shampoos. I brush my teeth with the baking soda at the same time, not harmful if swallowed.
When I was a young teen, my father (who was a little boy during the Great Depression) showed me how to use ordinary table salt (which foams up quite nicely) for toothpaste. He had lots of folk methods for cleanliness and basic survival born out of necessity.
"No Poo" here for the last 10 years. There was a 2 week detox at the beginning then no issues since. Shockingly easy. Highly recommend.

Dilute the baking soda well. I'd say in a quart of water, put about 1/4 cup of baking soda. Also for the vinegar rinse--dilute well, or it will sting your eyes a bit. Probably the same ratios. My hair is long and thick, so I actually double all of those amounts using 1/2 gallon jugs.
I used to use that, I use rasoulle clay and acv now. But all good.

Usually rhassoul clay for a cleaner and apple cider vinegar for rinse. I also use comfrey tea for my rinse, but I have run out until it grows again this summer
At which time it will do its usual "I'm taking over this whole garden, try to stop me!" thing. But very easy to pull up (and turn into fermented fertilizer).

I had to use it for awhile when I had mouth problems and most toothpaste was too harsh. There's a whole range of toothpastes for children, as it turns out. I can't say it cleaned my teeth very well. For children, it's probably just to get them used to the idea of brushing their teeth.

Absolutely true. Most people at times want SOMETHING to indulge in. I have no way of knowing for sure which is worse, cookies, cake, candy and chips, or pure nicotine. I'm inclined to indulge in a little nicotine in lieu of the junk. If you go all day, every day, with no desire to indulge in anything other than pure water and healthy food, you are a very lucky person, presuming you are able to be happy that way. I've never been overweight at all, and only smoked for 13 of my 73 years. I can still say for sure smoking greatly reduces the urge to overeat.

We avoided bread until I started milling wheat berries for flour. Now for GI tract health, I eat one slice everyday for the vitamins, protein and fiber it offers. Plus! Had my first really successful loaves of sourdough yesterday using part milled, part bread flour. You can make those loaves 100% fresh ground flour, I’ve been doing that recently. Boosts the nutrition considerably. Actually, I understand and appreciate your position. It’s one that I, and surely many others, have entertained in the past. I don’t pretend to have any answers, but I can tell you what my thoughts are about completely ditching the Ds and Rs….for what it’s worth.
In recent history, the most successful 3rd party candidate has been Ross Perot in 1992 with about 19% of the popular vote. There have been others (like Nader) who accomplish little more than to garner blame for the loss of one candidate or the other. By most accounts, Perot’s run resulted in the loss of Bush to Clinton.
So, the question is whether taking a “principled stand” by voting for a non-viable candidate, thereby diminishing the chances of the candidate one would have voted for is a reasonable, constructive course of action? There are many who support your position, and I respect that. On the other hand, there are many (like myself) who believe that such a course of action, principled though it may be, would very well ensure another four years of devastating “leadership” that this country can ill afford. Perhaps it's a tough choice, but it's a choice that one must make nonetheless.
That said, one more thought…if you really want to “stop the cartel,” then maybe you should consider the one candidate who the “cartel" absolutely loathes and is desperately working to remove from contention at any cost. Just a thought...

Got my chicks today! A dozen, all different breeds, to add to my growing flock. They're inside for now but pretty soon they'll be out there with the others. I pruned azaleas and trimmed autumn ferns yesterday, so nice to be outside!

I incubated last year, from eggs that my chickens laid (obviously I have a rooster too!). Ten of 20 hatched, and EIGHT of them were roosters! So they're in the freezer and now I just buy pullets at Tractor Supply. When the SHTF then we'll incubate again and just get what we get!

Been out taking care of my garden the past year and loving every minute of it. Growing cabbage, carrots, cucumbers, jalapeños, tomatoes, chives, cilantro, lettuce, spinach, onions, garlic, strawberries and bell peppers!! It’s a learning process in Florida but it’s been so great! I have a Meyer lemon tree I’ve been babying for the last year and I have blooms!!!! So excited!!! Can’t wait for pesticide free lemons too! 🙌
I also recently found a supplier for fresh, grass fed, non vaxxed, no antibiotics, no hormones beef! I’m so excited. And that happened because I was looking for beef liver for my dog and her new raw diet!! It’s been so great. I’m glad I’m putting in the time to research and figure all this out. Found raw milk and whole fresh chickens with no antibiotics or hormones and vaxxes just real chicken!
Stepping away from the internet has been awesome! I’m still plugged in but it takes second place to feeding my family good food. 😉

My parents hardly EVER when to a doctor for "common ailments (colds, flu, measels, mumps, impetigo). Sometimes, Mom would CALL the doctor and, if he wasn't too gusy, he would make HOUSE CALLS (and we were no living in the town proper--about 2 miles outside our small town). Mom ALWAYS hung out her laundry--even in winter (it would freeze and eventually "dry" - Mom said the sheets were whiter after they froze--I don't know if that's true or not - smile!). I saw a movie last night called "Incident in a Small Town" and it was set in the early 1950's (starred Walter Matthau, Harry Morgan & Stephanie Zimbalist--watch it on Tubi if you are interested). The way people were living (tightknit communities - some people were gossipy--but most just "looked out" for their neighbors if they were in dire circumstances). That's one reason I joined Facebook in 2009--it reminded me of the "backyard gossip fence - when we would play (the kids) and the adults would talk and sip coffee or beverages and just "share" with one another!! INNOCENT TIMES - I long for them now that I am "closeted" in my very nice home but feel like a "desert island". THAT'S THE MAIN REASON I STAY ON "C & C" ARMY posts - I feel our "sharing" and it brightens my heart and mind.

Same here, but I don't think I could make it. I'm not outdoorsy, I sunburn easily, and cannot do anything gardening wise (I literally kill plants I touch). I also don't know if I could live without my books to read (which I use my Kindle for) and air conditioning...otherwise, I think I could live in an Amish community, at least one that allows plumbing...
Oh, they read books, they have library cards, not everyone gardens, and the ice house is cool! They hire drivers and travel the country side, and there are communities that use indoor plumbing.

I did. I took on the second largest HOA in my state and won my fight. And then the residents voted the same people back into power. I got a real taste for how apathetic most people are. And the ones who aren't apathetic are extremely hostile. I've been thinking a lot about what I can do in this election. I'm not convinced this is an issue that can be solved by men. I believe ultimately our salvation will come from fasting and prayer, humbling ourselves before God and asking His forgiveness, but I know most people don't consider that "making a difference."

Even if flouride were 100% safe and prevented all cavities, why would it be allowed to be added to a municipal water system? It is not part of a process to make the water safe for drinking. It is an additive for supposed health benefits. I never gave the water authority consent to dose me.
The main reason they put it into the water was to get rid of a waste product from the government's production of nukes. They used dental benefits as an excuse.
Putting fluoride on the teeth seems to be a good idea, but these days I wonder if they even tested to find out.
I haven't been to a dentist in over a decade, but back when I used to go, they would offer that fluoride at the end. I did it once and it made me so sick that I refused it afterwords. You don't have to take it. I'm glad I didn't. I also started using iodine; every cell in your body utilizes iodine. Fluoride and bromide (a common additive to store bought bread) both inactivate iodine.

Didn't notice any difference in taking it versus not taking it, then switched to 5% solution and now I can tell when I don't take it because my brain feels foggy and tired. I am amazed that one drop once a day provides benefits. I've thought about increasing my dose to see what happens.

Last night, I attended an event that began by showing a movie about sex trafficking and then listened to a panel of experts speak. The panel included FBI, sheriff, our chief of police, many in healthcare, and one woman who has fostered over 200 children and adopted 11. Many of her children were rescued from trafficking. I couldn’t believe what a problem it is in our tiny community. One of the things that really stood out was how frustrated law enforcement is with the current laws. They have only had one of their recent 8 arrests spend any amount of time in jail, and that was because he was illegal and they kept him here until he could be deported. One prominent pediatrician showed up to have sex with what he thought was a 14 year old, was busted, and spent 6 days in jail. That’s it. The laws do not take care of the victims.

I thought she, and her cohorts, were extraordinary humans doing wonderful work.

On other fun notes about outages, yesterday at the pharmacy, the connection to two large insurance companies went down. On a regular day, our computers automatically connect to all insurance companies so we can show the customer what their actual payment is.
