And He opened His mouth and began to teach them, saying,

“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.

Blessed are the lowly, for they shall inherit the earth.

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.

Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.

Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.

Blessed are those who have been persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when people insult you and persecute you, and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Me. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward in heaven is great; for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.”

— Matthew 5:2-12 LSB

excellent point. like Cafeteria Catholics, they take what they like of the Bible and dump the rest. like the ones in the 400s who dumped the Gospels of Thomas and Mary Magdalene to twist the church away from Gnosticism and towards male domination/misogyny. "but the BIBLE SAYS"... etc.

This passage is a lovely and moving way of expressing the truth that things in the Kingdom are done exactly opposite of the world.

The Lord does indeed teach us patience. And those who trust in His power receive His reward. Yesterday's announcements from SOTUS being a clear example.

Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or understand, according to the power that works within us, to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen.

The rich, until recently, were right behind this, especially:

Blessed are the lowly, for they shall inherit the earth.

the rich have never been behind that. unless it was as a fantasy to keep the working class in line.
