Good morning. It's a new year and a new era. The people of Venezuela are celebrating their freedom from dictators who steal elections. We are celebrating the ongoing taking back of the Republic, and the return of a real President exercising real authority.
Am I being too positive? I believe 2026 will be an outstanding year.
Finally we have a President who unashamedly acts in US interests. No tortured statements about "the long suffering people of Venezuela who yearn for democracy" followed by an invasion of 20,000 troops. Lol. Just, "the dude was a bad guy, we told him to stop and he didn't, and now he is going to pay for it". FAFO.
We been so lied to and manipulated for so long regarding US military action that people are understandably wary, I know I am. George W Bush was an absolute disaster and I supported him because he was our guy. But I was completely wrong, he was a liar and a fool at best, probably much worse. He never deserved our trust.
But the lesson is not that US military action is always wrong, but that it should only be used when it clearly advances US interests. PDJT is the first president in decades to actually understand and believe that.

I repented to the Father for not asking His instructions on the matter. And, until I am told differently by HIM, I will support President Donald J Trump to my dying breath.
I had a similar experience. (I am a die hard Republican so experience is not exactly the same.) In 2020 I heard God's voice very distinctly telling me that He had chosen His man and that man was Donald Trump. At the time I was on steroids for sciatica and my brain and mouth were both out of control. When Trump lost the election I was sure it was the drugs that had led me to this "vision." I had told so many people about this experience and I'm sure they all thought I was slightly deranged. I now believe with all my being that God DID choose Donald Trump and those 4 years of Biden were the refining years that made him the leader he is today. God's timing is definitely not our timing. DJT is a totally different president for his 2nd term than he would have been if he'd won in 2020.
I had always been a die-hard Republican, but the peanut farmer fooled me. It was before internet and I was very young and politically naive. And in 2015 I was all about Ted Cruz.

Great comment. The fact that we actually supported George Bush makes the realization of his duplicity much worse. At the time I thought he was a genuinely good guy and my only complaint was his tendency to “go along to get along”. Now that we know the extent of his “going along” we are sickened by our support of him. My scorn for him is equal to Clinton; not quite to the level of scorn for Obama, but close.

I think if Trump had won in 2020, the protests, threats and impeachments would have increased, and very little would have been accomplished. And 2024 would have given us a Newsom or someone equally bad.

What authority does the United States have to charge a person of a foreign country with a violation of a law enacted by the United States? By our Constitution only Congress has the power to declare war. In spite of common belief precedents do not trump the Constitution. There are procedures written in the Constitution for amending it. Legal precedent is not one of the procedures. Past wrongs committed without correction never give license to commit the same wrong again and again. If I get away with murdering someone, does that now make it okay for me to do it again? The legal process for the alleged drug runners is to stop them at our borders or coastal territory. The drug runners then have the option to return to their point of origin or if they insist to be arrested, have their illicit cargo seized and then forcibly sent back.

Congress alone has the power to declare war. People have argued these actions taken against foreign governments do not constitute waging war. I disagree for the simple reason any meddling in another nation’s internal affairs is of an act of aggression, thus if not outright war, an incitement for war. Our posture as a nation should always be to treat all other nations with benevolence and to avoid foreign entanglements. That advice came from our greatest President, George Washington. The fact that previous Presidents performed such acts of aggression without the approval of Congress to wage war did not then make it right, nor does it now make it right. Yeah, I find it ironic that the author of this blog (and many if not most here) sleep walked right into afghanistan and iraq, never questioned 911, until just a few years ago, but now they can see this is clearly the right move and one done with our best interests at heart. I have been out of the political loop so I really don't know if a strong case has been made to remove Maduro. Maybe it has. However, where does it end? Isn't this similar to Libya, "we came, we saw, he died?" Does the US have the right to remove every "dangerous dictator?" Should the US be doing that? Perhaps you are referring to the Roosevelt Corollary to the Monroe Doctrine. That is the “big stick” in the illustration presented today.

If we have a drug problem here in the United States it’s our own fault. For decades we have failed to protect and secure our borders. Our government incentivizes single parent households by providing a multitude of welfare benefit programs primarily to a single parent household. Finally... all the money that is being used for foreign aid/ adventures--couldn't it be put to use to benefit actual citizens? Like figuring out a way to lower health insurance premiums for example?
1. There (apparently? I'm not a lawyer.) was a legal indictment sworn out on Maduro and his wife. I haven't heard any criticism of the standing on that.
2. Trump declared fentnayl a WMD. I have not heard any dispute that is within his legal authority to do.
3. over 50 countries did *not* recognize Maduro as the LAWFUL leader of VZ.
4. I don't believe it's disputed that VZ *did* steal the infrastructure built by US oil companies. (I have NO idea of the legal web that overlays this.)
5. I have heard respected legal scholars such as Jonathan Turley say that the case against Maduro is on FAR MORE SOLID LEGAL ground than that of Noreiga who was convicted and harshly sentenced.
As to using taxpayer $ towards social programs, maybe PURGING social programs first of all the waste FRAUD and ABUSE would uncover more than enough $ for citizens. The ONLY WAY IMO to lower health insur premiums is to GET GOVT OUT of the system and OPEN IT UP to COMPETITION.
Which some of us think is also wrong. We aren't all binary left righties like most here see the world. We are $36 trillion in debt. Maybe we need to quit military global adventurism and try to pay our debt off.
Maybe if we clean up @#$%^ like Maduro around the world, which in this case will impact the GLOBAL oil markets by upending Venezuela: the #1 largest oil reserve in the world, not to mention Iran the #3 largest oil reserve who is just about to push out the ayatollah, which would not have happened without Trump's sanctions and bombing their nuclear program and will bring down world oil prices thus giving the U.S. and allied countries cheaper oil prices and will also undermine the price that Russia can sell their oil for.
Additionally the swiftness and perfection of the execution of this mission sends a message to other countries like Columbia and Mexico to help persuade them to work WITH us instead of against us. This is the OPPOSITE of Biden's disasterous and despicable AFGH withdrawal which was one of the precipitating events that led to Putin invading UKR.
There are SO MANY layers in which this is a win it's hard to count them all.
It lists the origin of fentanlyl in the US. There are no south american countries listed.
Also, if over 50 countries were against Maduro, why did they not help in the effort? Why did the US act unilaterally?
I suppose that, in the end, this just seems like more money going to places that aren't the US and I'm not sure how this move, as it is presented by the government, will help American citizens.

You might be interested in reading the Substack of Praying Mantis, who was apparently an official in Venezuela and got out, now living in the Philippines. Points out that what's left of the population are the low-information citizenry who cowed to the regime.

Being insulted daily is not something I find to be a positive experience. Someone once told me change the things you can, I certainly don’t have to stay in a place where I’m continually insulted. Hurling insults at each other, fighting with a screen, defending things I didn’t say is not what I would call spending my time wisely and at this point in my life time is far too precious. I also realize, in the big picture, this probably doesn’t matter much to anyone except me, maybe leaving will make change, for some it will be a happy change👍. I had come close to becoming a paid subscriber but paying to have to deal with insecure, immature, petty people everyday like “Abiding dude”, “Bard Joseph” and a few others, who seem to add nothing to this sub stack, except insults, mainly at me, with no policing of it, makes me somewhat glad that I had stayed as an unpaid subscriber. It’s comical how these few create their own context from my comments so they can then make their juvenile insults. Not that I like to leave, but these few clowns make my decision of leaving easier.
Jeff I don’t have to tell you you’re a brilliant man and a great informative current events writer. I get the obvious, this is not my sub stack, seeing the people who live to insult others, and now understanding that it seems to be ok, I conclude this is probably not a good place for me. It’s incredible that time after time we see that 99.9 plus % of people are mature and wonderful but it’s that less than .1% allowed to stay on and destroy, many times is all it takes to push good people out. This we see in so many forums, such is life.

It’s sometimes easy to get discouraged with what’s been done to us. Being so engaged with negative events certainly doesn’t help. As we were isolated and divided I tried to hold out hope that I could get through it. It’s almost as though I needed to be “rescued”.
We should always keep hope in our hearts. We all have dreams, things we want to accomplish or things we want to see changed, God put them there. Sometimes it seems it’s taking too long, we’re discouraged, negative thoughts keep coming, we have to shake this off. God is a faithful God. No matter how long it’s been, no matter how impossible it looks, if you’ll stay in faith your time will come.
Every dream that’s in your heart, every promise that’s taken root, God not only put there but he has every intention of bringing it to pass. This is what hope is all about. David said “I have pitched my tent in the land of hope”. This is the place we all should dwell. Remember God is in control of our life, he holds you in the palm of his hand.
I came across this story the other day and thought I’d share it with all of you.
A man decided to go out on his boat. A big storm arose and the boat capsized. He ended up on a deserted island alone. Week after week went by, he was so miserable, so distraught, he didn’t think he’d ever be found. He prayed and prayed but it seemed like the heavens were silent. Nothing got any better. In fact just when he thought it couldn’t get any worse, after he got back from trying to find some food, he found the little thatched roof hut he had built had some how caught on fire. He just sat there and watched it go up in flames. It was like pouring salt on his wounds. He said God I give up. I asked you to help me but one bad thing after another happens to me. So down, so discouraged.
Well a little over an hour later the Coast Guard showed up to rescue him. He couldn’t believe it. He was thrilled. He asked how in the world did you find me. The Chief Petty Officer said we saw the smoke coming from the fire you built.
Sometimes what looks like disappointment to us is simply God getting us in a position to go to a new level. Sometimes instead of getting negative we just need a different perspective.
Life has its way of tearing us down. The good news is God never disqualifies us. He never writes us off. Nothing you’ve done is to much for the mercy of God. If you get knocked down you just have to get back up. Gods mercy never counts us out, it only counts us in. That’s why there’s nothing like a person that stays full of hope. If anyone thinks they can post meaningful or controversial information or opinions and aren't going to get occasional grief from petty responders who think they know what is really going on, they are disillusional.
I used to do that too, but no more. I don't follow him anymore (The Daily Stoic) after he posted that he was all for persecuting the J 6 attendees, but he said something I never forgot about on line pissing matches. I can empathize. Just last evening I was watching a Rumble channel podcast, with a live chat, and I made a simple comment about the Maduro arrest being much about the stolen 2020 election. Immediately someone in the chat told me to "go hang myself".
Never forget, a lot of the negative reactions are actually bots.
I don't take anything seriously if somebody comes after me. I don't care. They're not paying my bills, they're not taking care of my mortgage, so who cares what they say? Water off a duck's back.
Beth, that’s a great attitude to have! But I suspect that J. Goodrich is the kind of person who has civil conversations with anyone who will let him and it’s a shock when some people can be real asses. When you’re a thoughtful and rational person, it’s often very difficult to understand how people can be so hateful and sometimes vicious.
I’m a huge First Amendment advocate but find a couple of commenters absolutely vile in some of the things they say. It was a shock to me to find this on C&C because most people are really nice. It doesn’t take much to disagree in a civil manner rather than to go on attack mode in the basest of ways. If you can’t take on an issue without resorting to that stuff, I have no respect and it’s not worth my time. I took on one of them several months ago but decided he’s totally irrational so I refuse to engage further. Hopefully J. Goodrich will come to that same conclusion and will decide to stay.
Might I offer a suggestion? Don't read the comments. Read the article and close your browser. If you read the comments and then add some yourself, you are inviting the discomfort you don't like. You can have your cake and skip the indigestion. : )

FWIW, I'm pretty sure (but not positive) that you can BLOCK commenters who you do not want to communicate with. If you can figure out how to do that, that might be a good option for you.
Please don't conflate the government suppressing your speech with private citizens choosing to "Mute" or "Block" you on Substack because they find you a tedious bore. Two different things entirely.

Venezuela DID have something to do with the stolen election. It's been reported on in detail that I cannot spout back to you but I'm sure is searchable. In essence Venezuela had something to do with the Dominion and Smartmatic voting machines. BTW, BOTH those companies have now been PURCHASED by CONSERVATIVE owners.
Have seen some posts about various members of Congress (both sides) with supposed ties to Venezuela, but none with actual sources or credible evidence. If true, hope there are consequences! Despite all the successes in the first year, people going to jail has been a little low so far.

I find it odd that people are listening to people like MTG who can’t even finish out her term or Thomas Massey, who has never stood with the Republicans, and even though it probably is not connected, remarried a much younger woman within a year of the death of his wife… not exactly a long grief period. My point is MTG and TM don’t seem to have much loyalty to anyone but themselves, so why are people buying into their criticisms of Trump?
IMO, and that is all it is, MTG is the Republican Jazzy Crockett. Massie and Paul serve an important function in that they call it as they see it. And I for one rarely disagree. But another important function is making Congressional sausage and both are too pure to sully their hands to do so. The fix/cure is a wide Republican margin in both houses. Say 60%; 66% for guaranteed success. In 2020 I heard God's voice very distinctly telling me that He had chosen His man and that man was Donald Trump. At the time I was on steroids for sciatica and my brain and mouth were both out of control. When Trump lost the election I was sure it was the drugs that had led me to this "vision." I had told so many people about this experience and I'm sure they all thought I was slightly deranged. I now believe with all my being that God DID choose Donald Trump and those 4 years of Biden were the refining years that made him the leader he is today. God's timing is definitely not our timing. DJT is a totally different president for his 2nd term than he would have been if he'd won in 2020.

Great comment. The fact that we actually supported George Bush makes the realization of his duplicity much worse. At the time I thought he was a genuinely good guy and my only complaint was his tendency to “go along to get along”. Now that we know the extent of his “going along” we are sickened by our support of him. My scorn for him is equal to Clinton; not quite to the level of scorn for Obama, but close.

Congress alone has the power to declare war. People have argued these actions taken against foreign governments do not constitute waging war. I disagree for the simple reason any meddling in another nation’s internal affairs is of an act of aggression, thus if not outright war, an incitement for war. Yeah, I find it ironic that the author of this blog (and many if not most here) sleep walked right into afghanistan and iraq, never questioned 911, until just a few years ago, but now they can see this is clearly the right move and one done with our best interests at heart. They may be right, but they don't have much evidence that backs that up, and it is also FAR to early to tell, and if history tells us anything, coups usually do not end well. There are no boots on the ground (if we take at face value what the government tells us) but is it going to remain that way? I sadly bet not.

It has been a total disaster for our country in every sense of the word, and has never resulted in advancing US interests.
Yet it kept happening and became obvious the best case explanation was incompetence, more likely it was intentional. Remember Colin Powell’s, “You broke it, you bought it” statement? Powell was saying that if the US took military action in another country, we had an obligation to clean up the mess afterwards. In hindsight it was an absurd standard that played on American guilt over past military “transgressions”, Vietnam in particular. And of course the neocons took full advantage manipulating the situation to advance their interests.
Twice now we’ve seen PDJT exercise extreme military precision to achieve a specific goal without apology. No nonsense about nation building. No pandering to the UN. No tens of thousands of US troops to “win the peace”. Just “we warned you and you didn’t stop f’ing around so now you pay a price. Let the next guy be on notice so we don't need to do this again.”
This is what I love about PDJT, he is totally unencumbered by some phony sense of “We are the World” moral obligation, but he simply advances US interests without shame. Twice now, on Iran and Venezuela, he’s achieved his military objectives without “boots on the ground” demanded by the neocon warmongers. No platitudes about our "obligations". As a dad with two draft age sons, nothing is more important to me than that.
It is such an amazing change it is hard to believe it is real, so I get the skepticism. But it does seem to be real.

While the action in Venezuela has been portrayed as law enforcement, eighty plus people were reportedly killed in an effort to enforce laws allegedly violated by one or two people. That is in reality an act of war. Don’t be fooled/misled by the law enforcement story. What authority does the United States have to charge a person of a foreign country with a violation of a law enacted by the United States? Are we subject to arrest for violating another country’s laws while we reside here in the United States? Of course not! By our Constitution only Congress has the power to declare war. We should not be sending our military to fight and potentially die for the interests of international oil companies. If we have a drug problem here in the United States it’s our own fault. For decades we have failed to protect and secure our borders. Our government incentivizes single parent households by providing a multitude of welfare benefit programs primarily to a single parent household. Without a father’s presence in a household a young male child will often turn to gang members for mentoring. In gang a young male will learn about alcohol, drugs and the associated criminal activity. Additionally the dependent allowance for children in our income tax codes has not kept up with the rate of inflation. However the tax code does grant childcare tax credits. A stay at home mother does not qualify for a childcare tax credit. Who ends up caring for the children for a large number of their daytime hours? It’s not the parents.
We only have to look to our state legislatures to deal with and end election fraud. They alone have the Constitutional authority to determine how elections within the individual states are to be conducted. Don’t blame Maduro for own failings. Foreign developed and controlled electronic voting devices should never have been implemented with our country.
What’s the Constitutional basis for the Monroe Doctrine? There isn’t any. 2. Trump declared fentnayl a WMD. I have not heard any dispute that is within his legal authority to do.
3. over 50 countries did *not* recognize Maduro as the LAWFUL leader of VZ.
4. I don't believe it's disputed that VZ *did* steal the infrastructure built by US oil companies. (I have NO idea of the legal web that overlays this.)
5. I have heard respected legal scholars such as Jonathan Turley say that the case against Maduro is on FAR MORE SOLID LEGAL ground than that of Noreiga who was convicted and harshly sentenced.

Being insulted daily is not something I find to be a positive experience. Someone once told me change the things you can, I certainly don’t have to stay in a place where I’m continually insulted. Hurling insults at each other, fighting with a screen, defending things I didn’t say is not what I would call spending my time wisely and at this point in my life time is far too precious. I also realize, in the big picture, this probably doesn’t matter much to anyone except me, maybe leaving will make change, for some it will be a happy change👍. I had come close to becoming a paid subscriber but paying to have to deal with insecure, immature, petty people everyday like “Abiding dude”, “Bard Joseph” and a few others, who seem to add nothing to this sub stack, except insults, mainly at me, with no policing of it, makes me somewhat glad that I had stayed as an unpaid subscriber. It’s comical how these few create their own context from my comments so they can then make their juvenile insults. Not that I like to leave, but these few clowns make my decision of leaving easier.
Jeff I don’t have to tell you you’re a brilliant man and a great informative current events writer. I get the obvious, this is not my sub stack, seeing the people who live to insult others, and now understanding that it seems to be ok, I conclude this is probably not a good place for me. It’s sometimes easy to get discouraged with what’s been done to us. Being so engaged with negative events certainly doesn’t help. As we were isolated and divided I tried to hold out hope that I could get through it. It’s almost as though I needed to be “rescued”.
We should always keep hope in our hearts. We all have dreams, things we want to accomplish or things we want to see changed, God put them there. Sometimes it seems it’s taking too long, we’re discouraged, negative thoughts keep coming, we have to shake this off. God is a faithful God. No matter how long it’s been, no matter how impossible it looks, if you’ll stay in faith your time will come.
Every dream that’s in your heart, every promise that’s taken root, God not only put there but he has every intention of bringing it to pass. This is what hope is all about. I came across this story the other day and thought I’d share it with all of you.
A man decided to go out on his boat. A big storm arose and the boat capsized. He ended up on a deserted island alone. Week after week went by, he was so miserable, so distraught, he didn’t think he’d ever be found. He prayed and prayed but it seemed like the heavens were silent. Nothing got any better. In fact just when he thought it couldn’t get any worse, after he got back from trying to find some food, he found the little thatched roof hut he had built had some how caught on fire. He just sat there and watched it go up in flames. It was like pouring salt on his wounds. He said God I give up. I asked you to help me but one bad thing after another happens to me. So down, so discouraged.
Well a little over an hour later the Coast Guard showed up to rescue him. He couldn’t believe it. He was thrilled. He asked how in the world did you find me. The Chief Petty Officer said we saw the smoke coming from the fire you built.
Sometimes what looks like disappointment to us is simply God getting us in a position to go to a new level. Sometimes instead of getting negative we just need a different perspective.
Life has its way of tearing us down. The good news is God never disqualifies us. He never writes us off. Nothing you’ve done is to much for the mercy of God. If you get knocked down you just have to get back up. Gods mercy never counts us out, it only counts us in. That’s why there’s nothing like a person that stays full of hope. You can click on a commenter's name to see their profile; to the right of "Subscribe" and "Message" are three dots. Clicking on the trio of dots opens the options "Mute" and "Block." I recommend "Mute" if someone's posts simply annoy you, and "Block" if the person interacts obnoxiously directly with you. Leaving entirely isn't necessary unless you simply don't want to use Substack's features as they are designed to be used.
Most Substack authors worth reading draw flies, and most authors worth reading do not suppress free speech in their comments sections unless someone becomes truly vile.
Thanks for that. I had just put the name callers in my Spam, and stopped reading anything they post. If anyone thinks they can post meaningful or controversial information or opinions and aren't going to get occasional grief from petty responders who think they know what is really going on, they are disillusional.
Anything I post, I can back up fully.

I used to do that too, but no more. I don't follow him anymore (The Daily Stoic) after he posted that he was all for persecuting the J 6 attendees, but he said something I never forgot about on line pissing matches. Essentially, it was 'there is no bigger waste of time than engaging in arguments on the internet with people you have not met and never will'.

I've had that experience here too. But another thoughtful commenter reminded me that the real problem was my inability to ignore the hate and move on. I hope you (and I) find the ignore button inside. C&C is just too good to not be a part of, even with the insults. I can empathize. Just last evening I was watching a Rumble channel podcast, with a live chat, and I made a simple comment about the Maduro arrest being much about the stolen 2020 election. Immediately someone in the chat told me to "go hang myself".
Never forget, a lot of the negative reactions are actually bots.

Beth, that’s a great attitude to have! But I suspect that J. Goodrich is the kind of person who has civil conversations with anyone who will let him and it’s a shock when some people can be real asses. When you’re a thoughtful and rational person, it’s often very difficult to understand how people can be so hateful and sometimes vicious.
I’m a huge First Amendment advocate but find a couple of commenters absolutely vile in some of the things they say. It was a shock to me to find this on C&C because most people are really nice. It doesn’t take much to disagree in a civil manner rather than to go on attack mode in the basest of ways. If you can’t take on an issue without resorting to that stuff, I have no respect and it’s not worth my time. I took on one of them several months ago but decided he’s totally irrational so I refuse to engage further. Hopefully J. Goodrich will come to that same conclusion and will decide to stay.

True CC and I don't entirely disagree but I have also picked up some awesome info in the comment sections of columns, here and elsewhere. It's a double-edged sword I guess.
FWIW, I'm pretty sure (but not positive) that you can BLOCK commenters who you do not want to communicate with. If you can figure out how to do that, that might be a good option for you.

Just block seeing them! My own experience went from discouraging to encouraging real quick when I did that. I don’t block just any opinion disagreeing with me because I like reading alternate points of view. I block the rude ones, the empty, repetitive fools, and the ones obviously sent to sow discord. Blocking accounts like that transformed my chat experience.

I have a lot of questions. First of all, I am wondering if Maduro/Venezuela is solely about drugs and let's face it, oil, as much as Covid was solely about a Virus.

yes, I am FAR from a foreign policy expert but Venezuela is a multi-headed snake, and Maduro was just one of the heads. Know enough to know it's a very complicated situation and I hope Trump's advisors see the complete landscape clearly. This is our own backyard and they need to get this right.

I find it odd that people are listening to people like MTG who can’t even finish out her term or Thomas Massey, who has never stood with the Republicans, and even though it probably is not connected, remarried a much younger woman within a year of the death of his wife… not exactly a long grief period. My point is MTG and TM don’t seem to have much loyalty to anyone but themselves, so why are people buying into their criticisms of Trump?

IMO, and that is all it is, MTG is the Republican Jazzy Crockett. Massie and Paul serve an important function in that they call it as they see it. And I for one rarely disagree. But another important function is making Congressional sausage and both are too pure to sully their hands to do so. The fix/cure is a wide Republican margin in both houses. Say 60%; 66% for guaranteed success. I was watching a YouTube last night trying to obtain footage of the Venezuela strike; I was not successful but I did see a Hispanic YouTuber who was covering the Hispanic response. He opined that the Democrat blowback has cost Democrats the 2026 and 2028 Hispanic vote. Which makes sense if you think about it.
