Notice that the meeting is in Riyadh. Why? Convenience for one, but also because diplomatically the Saudis figure large in any 'settling down' of the Middle East situation which is most likely to figure into the terms of this comprehensive plan of normalization of relations under discussion between the United States and the Russian Federation.

My dad passed in Nov 2023 and our joint bank accounts still remain open with his name still on it (because I'm lazy?). However, the whole "not stopping dead people payments" thing seems strange to me since he received his SS direct deposit a week later, but then it was taken back with the note as "deceased" the NEXT day! I didn't even have time to report his death so I wonder who did? Funeral home? The same thing happened with my Mom in 2013, except she never even got her next direct deposit after she passed. Again, I never told the SSA that she passed. I do believe it happens that they pay dead people, but I wonder why/how they knew about my two cases and stopped the payments immediately.

Expand full comment
Margaret Allison's avatar

Deb, the funeral home is supposed to notify SS. Death certificates in Alabama are sent to the funeral home for the family to pick up. I just did 2 years this coming May for my brother who passed away.

My husband will be 90 in Sept! So I don’t need a extra load to prove he is alive since he has dementia too. Caregiving is not made easy!

I am so sick about the fraud and waste in the SS. How easy would it be to figure someone 369 years old is not alive? I’m in total agreement to fix the issue. See SS is not broke! Stop the fraud now!

Thanks again Jeff for the news as it is. So grateful DOGE is doing the job right.

Carolyn's avatar

I found out someone I knew didn't report his mother's death. So the checks kept coming. Wonder why the IRS didn't pursue the "recipients" on unpaid taxes. Social security counts as income and taxes have to be paid even tho when you worked you paid tax on the amount deducted as did your employer. So your Social Security money is being taxed twice. As far as the agency saying not "ALL" of deceased are still receiving checks is so much bull. If there is not a died date SOMEONE is getting the checks. The whole system reeks of corruption and incompetence. DEI hires are only a small part of the problem. Gross neglect of duty, incompetence and lack of morals (stealing is a crime) as well as no work ethic. It is continued because Congress as a whole is too lazy to do their jobs as trustees of the taxpayers money. No consequences. No accountability. The time for it to stop is now. GOD keeps HIS promise! Let HIM do HIS work. HE uses who HE will.

It is tax fraud for most of us. You have to earn 24K or less (or it was last year-just about the actual amount of the SS checks) and between that and 54K you get taxed more than normal income (close to 30%) and over 54K it is taxed even more (though I don't know how much). States like Crimeorado doled out millions in Federal dollars to fraudulent Unemployment Claims Due to CoVid19; then whined and hired more investigators, then likely edged up their own State rates on employers when able. How much of all this free cash goes straight to criminals with political connections in the know? Like Pelosi stock trades these career crooks know how to get ahead of the bags of cash heading their way --another means to launder and fund more grift and elect grifters to keep shoveling cash off the gravy train.

In actual fact; Gay, Billionaire, libertarianish, Jewish Gov. Then the Federal $$$ didn't show up for over a YEAR, and by July 2021 i had 2 former employees that i called asking if they'd received payment or at least a redetermination letter from CO Dept of Labor, because I HAD...but neither one got a cent of the $$$ paid out...so one could ask, if they cared to, "Where the Fk did it go???!" The State conveniently asked Employers to NOT Contest these re-determined cases as they would not apply to our rates anyway (being Fed $$$). See, to me it starts with de-skilling and specialization of labor. The more you "idiot proof" jobs, and the more you confine them to an extremely narrow range of responsibilities, the more you devalue them and the people who do them. Honestly? It speaks of low self (as in, the self as a member of the human race, creation of God, etc) esteem. That you have so little reverence for the complexity and abilities of the working human animal. Even in an example such as...okay, probably everyone thinks their work is "more nuanced and complex" than a grocery-store cashier's. But when you have essentially turned the cashier into a human conveyor belt, OF COURSE you think a machine should be doing this work. But if people can just remember (or imagine) a few decades ago, the cashier needed to be much more than a human conveyor belt. Especially in smaller stores, where they were/are required to wear more hats than just 'cashier.' Greeter, inventory taker, stocker, receiver, sandwich maker, fill-in product orderer...

Additionally, I think this idea comes from there being no real growth path. If the job is so de-skilled that there is nothing the worker can do to acquire the skills of the next levels up, well, again--the job is devalued, the person doing it is seen as an ambitionless moron. "It would be a kindness, to put a robot in their place...." people say.

And I get it, the argument is: "well the genie [of de-skilling] is out of the bottle, ya can't go back!"

But I disagree.

(Sorry for long reply this is kind of a hobby-horse of mine.)

The SSA has no problem at all cutting off payments to deceased persons. In several family and friend situations I’ve known of, the family is required to report the death immediately and the payment stops immediately. Not even one extra month is paid. So it appears that they are efficient when they want to be.

We reported the death of my 96 year old father-in-law and SS accidentally made 1 extra payment. We didn’t even have to call them, because a day later the payment was removed from his account. We do wonder if they then use his SS number in other ways, which we won’t ever know, so his number can join the zombies and vote for years and years and facilitate fraud in other ways. Someone knows what they are doing to abuse the system, so I can t wait until DOGE gets to the bottom of the corruption and shuts it down. For those that are being fired, I feel your short-term pain, I was fired, or down sided, or reorganized 9 times in my life.  It's part of life.  Go forth and conquer and get an even better job.  The government is loaded with waste.  I worked for the government for 6 years and saw such waste that to me was unimaginable (I am a bit frugal by nature).  And no one cared.  At some point you come to the edge of the cliff and your options are diminished.  The US is looking over the precipice and I'm glad we have a non-career politician that has the balls to do something about.

He celebrates the slaughter of other humans as he has done countless times regarding Russians and Palestinians. He defames people and calls them names with reckless abandon (he has called Jeff Childers a liar numerous times). Despite nearly everything he has said about the Ukraine War now being proven false, he has never acknowledged any of it or (heaven-forbid) apologized.

He is not a Christian, and he's a foreigner who immigrated here (an Israeli Jew) who has no stake in this country, no allegiance, and simply sees it as vehicle to do the bidding of his ethnic clan. Yet he attempts to lecture us on how we need to behave. He tries to use emotional manipulation to goad people into doing what he wants. He makes no attempt at rational persuasion but simply attempts to inflame people. In short, he's a deceptive sociopath.

He was crowing a few weeks ago about now that Trump cancelled the vax requirement for visas and that his parents could now come here. No thanks, stay in Israel where they belong. We don't need people who raised such a dishonest hack in this country.

Gonna respectfully dispute the statement “reaction is always slower than action.” Quite the opposite is true, as in a “knee jerk reaction.” It’s a reasoned RESPONSE that’s rightfully slower than actions which are provocative. In Addictions Counseling, “triggering” is a key concept. People generally would prefer negative attention to no attention at all. “Nobody puts Baby in a corner,” right” (ref. #DirtyDancing).

To restrain from reacting when someone is poking at you verbally, trying to “trigger” you into anger, shame, guilt, and/or the most common attitude of defensiveness, it’s much more difficult to maintain “self-control” and not overreact.

And lastly, Mark Twain, the Lincoln of our literature, gave us this koan-like Truth: “All generalizations are false…including this one.”
