Words Beyond Me Janice Powell's avatar

Be gracious to me, O God, be gracious to me,

For my soul takes refuge in You;

And in the shadow of Your wings I will take refuge

Until destruction passes by.

I will cry to God Most High,

To God who accomplishes all things for me.

He will send from heaven and save me;

He reproaches him who tramples upon me.

God will send forth His lovingkindness and His truth.

— Psalm 57:1-3 NAS

Janice- I'm not much of a church goer. I do chat with God a lot. To deny the presence of a central diety is to deny what every human group has bellieved, well, forever. Before there was Christ, every society had "someone." Some verson of God. Even the ones that had a lot of lesser gods had one supreme God. Can all of humanity who didn't even know about each other be wrong about "God?" Pretty big coinincidence I'd say. I don't believe in coincidences.

What you quoted today was particularly on target for today- and in my comment below, I said how it would have made me feel- and other "warriors" who are stepping out to possibly sacrifice their own life nearly daily. I feel it today as I continue my own personal calling.

I know you will pray and forgive. Thank you for that. Me? I'm more a "lock and load" kind of person. And I will NEVER ring the bell (read Make your Bed).

Keep on with your mission. You make a difference.

I surely don't know. Last night we watched a drug ad that ran a full minute. Neither of us could figure out what the stuff was to cure. A full 30 seconds dealt with all the horrific side effects.

We think it was for something, but they only said 3 letters and we can't recall what they were!

This has been going on for a long, long time. I believe it was in the late 90s, but there were a couple of journalists who did an investigative report on rBGH and rBST (recombinant bovine growth hormones used to increase milk production at large dairy farms and a product of Monsanto). They found all kinds of nasty side effects, one of them being cancer. When they went to air it, the news station pulled them in and said that they needed to change some stuff before it could be aired or the journalists would be fired. Pretty soon, the only way it would get aired was if the report was completely neutered. The journalists refused and were fired.

If I'm outside working up a sweat in boiling hot FL weather I'll have another one in the afternoon. I’ve had issues with leg cramps when I swim for about a decade now. I’ve tried numerous “cures”. Magnesium, potassium, etc. Finally, someone said, “Pickle juice.” Pickle juice has a lot of salt in it. So, I started sprinkling just a little bit of salt in my bottom of my water glass. I’ve only been doing this for a few weeks and I’m already noticing the difference. Yes, I have threatening cramps, but I was getting cramps that started in my feet, went into my calf, and locked my knee. All because of low salt.

Also, something else I’ve noticed is that, as someone who swims 5 times a week and also gardens, which is exercise, if I don’t eat enough animal protein, I get heart palpitations. Eat enough animal protein, and those disappear, too.

So, all the foods they tell you are bad for you are actually good for you.

How loud & how proud was that WalMart statement?

I haven’t seen nor heard it except through one other comment like yours.

So why do they continue to think they can hold on to customers from all sides?? Because we are too poor to quit them??

I have lived in Israel, the reason they can have a low death rate is they go to bunkers. Every building that is built must have a bunker. In communities where being bombed is almost constant they have bunkers in and on the playgrounds at schools.

I also own the book and should reread it. Brigette is an amazing survivor and also a believer in Jesus even though her childhood was horrific. In my opinion not reading these kinds of stories makes a person's empathy very limited. That would be like saying "I don't want to know what happened in the concentration camps and what the Nazi did to human beings." I refuse to stick my head in the sand. I also refuse to be silent and be part of the apathy. Brigette told her story of survival. The Jews tortured and killed by Hamas on October 7th are not silent either. Their stories need to be told and retold. I feel sorry for people who have a hard time with truth and think it is depressing. The world is a depressing place but it is even worse when the truth is hidden away and feelings are not expressed openly. But to each their own.

Anyone that has a TV, radio, computer, newspaper and linked into social media is well aware we are not in a fantasy world unless you are an ostrich. History classes taught us that as well. As for me, I truly respect your recommendation but rather use my time and/or dollars to balance all the heaviness that exists in the world by engaging in joyful activities like volunteering and engaging in positive events than reading about additional angst and sorrow in the world.

It was just a few examples of where I have spent my time. Reading her book many years ago further opened my eyes to what is going on in this country. Through what she experienced, I can learn from the warning she puts out regarding Islam and its tentacles which are now reaching in into our own society. Yesterday I saw an AP article saying that the missile attacks had resulted in many Israeli casualties. The numbers were very precise, something like "72 dead, 232 injured." Already that sounded bogus, since as you say, every Israeli has ready access to a bunker. Then came the clincher: the source they quoted was IRAN. About ten minutes after the missiles launched, IRAN already knew precisely how many Israelis they hit. The whole thing was simply absurd. Today I looked for that article and can't find it. Surprise.

The real divide isn’t between people who support Israel and people who support Iran or the Palestinians. The real divide is between those who casually encourage violence, and those who seek to prevent it — between warmongers and peacemakers. Who are the warmongers? They would include anyone who’s calling Donald Trump today to demand air strikes and other direct US military involvement in a war with Iran. On that list: Sean Hannity, Mark Levin, Rupert Murdoch, Ike Perlmutter and Miriam Adelson. At some point they will all have to answer for this, but you should know their names now.
