We should draw distinctions between two very different defendants and two very different investigations. An FBI agent is a govt employee. He should be required to report the truth about what he did in his role as a govt official. If he won't, it's perfectly fair to assume he abused his office and betrayed the public trust.
That was not Trump's case. He took the 5th when prosecutors were fishing in the pond he owned as a civilian. They wanted evidence to nail him in 1990 divorce proceedings and under 2022 civil fraud charges. Although prosecutors lived to smear him as president, neither was related to his role as president.

How does the USPS Bar Code system ensure the person who is supposed to get the ballot will get the ballot? It doesn't require a voter to prove their identity and sign for it. It can be voted by anyone and put back in the system. I'm not assuming there isn't widespread fraud inside USPS - one look at your local office or mail carrier will convince you it is highly infiltrated. Anyone participating in mail in balloting is either complicit or stupid or both. Any disabled people in AZ can request a mobile election board come to the location so they can vote without mail in. If a person gets a mail in ballot, they should bring it with them to the polls, tear it up in front of an election official and vote in person. States would have to use common mail-processing standards. There is an enforcement mechanism: states that don't comply with the required system could lose USPS transmission of covered federal mail ballots. That is what gives the requirement considerably more force than today's largely recommended ballot-mail practices. Reuters reports that this feature remains part of the final rule.
There is an important distinction, though. This isn't a system in which USPS determines whether a person is legally entitled to vote. The Postal Service isn't opening ballots, reading votes, checking signatures or determining party affiliation. Now there is an independent postal data trail against which the election administrator's records can be checked. That's quite similar conceptually to an inventory-control system: every valuable item gets a serial number, and you reconcile what was authorized, what left, what moved through the system and what returned.
What it does not solve
This is important because some descriptions of the rule make it sound broader than it is. The barcode system by itself doesn't prove that the person who filled out the ballot was the voter, doesn't validate a signature, doesn't establish citizenship, and doesn't establish that the vote was legally cast. Those functions remain largely with state election systems. The March executive order says the broader administration program is intended to combine ballot-envelope identifiers with other eligibility/citizenship measures, but those are separate components.
There is also a serious countervailing concern: if a state makes an administrative or technical mistake complying with the new USPS requirements, legitimate voters' ballots could potentially be affected. States and opponents of the rule have also challenged whether USPS has the legal authority to impose these conditions on state-run elections. Those questions are presently being litigated.
And that brings us to a significant update to the article you quoted: the rule isn't currently in effect. USPS posted the final rule on August 21 and said it is scheduled for formal Federal Register publication on August 26, 2026, but a federal court injunction currently prevents implementation. USPS says it will take no action under the rule unless the injunction is lifted.
So, stripped of the politics, the potentially meaningful change here is this: for the first time USPS would possess an independent, item-by-item electronic record connecting the state's authorized mail-ballot issuance records to the physical ballot envelopes traveling through the U.S. mail. That could make certain types of discrepancies considerably easier to detect, document and investigate. It would not, by itself, demonstrate that every returned ballot was cast by an eligible voter.
I think the only way to do it is to eliminate wide scale mail in voting. Its clear it was set up to manipulate elections. You can put band aids (the USPS bar code being an example) on a sucking chest wound but the patient is still going to die.

When you accept the appointment or the elected position to work on behalf of the people, you forfeit your right to ever plead the fifth to any investigation/inquiry relating to your duties or anything connected to what you heard or saw in your role. I was in first grade when they took the Pledge of Allegiance out of school, followed by stripping any quasi-religious music that we might have sung in choir around the holidays. We were no longer allowed to call it Christmas break, We had to say holiday break. I was in fifth grade when Our health class passed around drugstore contraceptives to children who were barely going through puberty. But oh, we were so progressive! Our churches at that time also took away the catechism in favor of a simple āJesus is Loveā mantra with no structural anchor that would have kept us from drifting out to the immoral sea with no boat, and no life jacket. In 10th grade, I was forced, in order to pass the required health class, to participate in an abortion debate. Back then the terms were pro-abortion and anti-abortion. I don't know how my 16 year-old self was able to survive that complete humiliation ritual - being the only one on the pro life side of the class while the rest of the class, screamed at me for my position on the matter., Knowing full well half the girls in the class had already had their first abortion, compliments of their mothers taking them to the clinic to have the problem āgo awayā. (My mom, rest her soul, was only one of a handful of women in ā73 who would pray in front of abortion clinics when you could get arrested for doing so. We should draw distinctions between two very different defendants and two very different investigations. An FBI agent is a govt employee. He should be required to report the truth about what he did in his role as a govt official. If he won't, it's perfectly fair to assume he abused his office and betrayed the public trust.
That was not Trump's case. He took the 5th when prosecutors were fishing in the pond he owned as a civilian. They wanted evidence to nail him in 1990 divorce proceedings and under 2022 civil fraud charges. Although prosecutors lived to smear him as president, neither was related to his role as president.

How does the USPS Bar Code system ensure the person who is supposed to get the ballot will get the ballot? It doesn't require a voter to prove their identity and sign for it. Anyone participating in mail in balloting is either complicit or stupid or both. Any disabled people in AZ can request a mobile election board come to the location so they can vote without mail in. Iāve been thinking, we should have a law that excludes the ability to take the fifth when it is in regard to government service roles. When you accept the appointment or the elected position to work on behalf of the people, you forfeit your right to ever plead the fifth to any investigation/inquiry relating to your duties or anything connected to what you heard or saw in your role. It would not remove your constitutional right to not incriminate yourself for any other matters unrelated to the work of the People.
The People have a right to answers and to the truth about what happens in our government. Nobody should have the right to hide behind the fifth in that respect. If youāre not guilty of anything, then answering questions truthfully about your government job/contract/appointment will not harm you. The 60s were in full swing when I was in elementary school. Drug use was off the chain, lots of overdoses, lots of protests, and lots of questionable sexual behavior, which, even as a child back, then I knew was damaging to society. I was in first grade when they took the Pledge of Allegiance out of school, followed by stripping any quasi-religious music that we might have sung in choir around the holidays. We were no longer allowed to call it Christmas break, We had to say holiday break. I was in fifth grade when Our health class passed around drugstore contraceptives to children who were barely going through puberty. But oh, we were so progressive! Our churches at that time also took away the catechism in favor of a simple āJesus is Loveā mantra with no structural anchor that would have kept us from drifting out to the immoral sea with no boat, and no life jacket. In 10th grade, I was forced, in order to pass the required health class, to participate in an abortion debate. Back then the terms were pro-abortion and anti-abortion. I don't know how my 16 year-old self was able to survive that complete humiliation ritual - being the only one on the pro life side of the class while the rest of the class, screamed at me for my position on the matter., Knowing full well half the girls in the class had already had their first abortion, compliments of their mothers taking them to the clinic to have the problem āgo awayā. (My mom, rest her soul, was only one of a handful of women in ā73 who would pray in front of abortion clinics when you could get arrested for doing so. Brief summary: liberals support Lindsey Clancy strongly, but think Andrea Shaw is a monster, even though Andrea Shaw almost certainly did not kill her children - there's a decent amount of evidence they died of "SIDS".
Their reaction this week sickens me, and I thought they already had pushed me to my sickened limits. I understand wanting the public to understand postpartum depression struggles, and the dangers to the drugs they use to treat it, and all bi-polar type depressions, but their displays during this trial are sick.
