Thanks for the tip. I’ll put it on my list.

Crazy idea but what about copy pasting Jeff’s daily C&C post into Grok and requesting an animated Jeff or assigned avatar sitting at a newscaster desk giving a multimedia presentation of the content with the links and relevant clips embedded. That’s surely possible by now, isn’t it? Then we could have that news segment linked to watch on say YouTube? Not that I don’t enjoy reading it aloud everyday to my husband and my sis.

FloridaTransplant's avatar

My wife demands I read it out loud to her, too. She prefer my read to the automated one available in the app or Safari because, apparently I read the humorous parts with more comedic interpretation. I live for Jeff’s snark when he graces us with that wit!

PKsweets's avatar

As much as I enjoy all his Snark today’s description of a skiing wipe-out was perfection-and then the last comment about

bystanders 😂🤦🏻‍♀️🤣 know the feeling 😊

Daisy's avatar

The skiing wipe-out description was so good, I believe he was reliving a time when it happened to him!

CMCM's avatar

As a skier, I could totally relate to that description!

Concerned mom's avatar

So was I... and the attending staff calling out, "are you OK Miss, are you hurt?!?" 😂🤣😂🤣

Mark Leone's avatar

We used to refer to those skiing wipe-outs as a yard sale. With all the clothing and equipment scattered on the slope.

MaryAnn's avatar

I am reminded of “the agony of defeat” which was a video of a ski jump gone sideways, literally.

Mark Leone's avatar

Yes! ABC's Wide World of Sports, I believe. "The thrill of victory... And the agony of defeat." Dude was in what skydivers call a flat spin.

I often read C&C aloud to my husband. I read articles and books aloud to him when we're driving and running errands. At a Jiffy Lube recently while I was reading aloud in our car during an oil change, the tech could hear me through the open window and got caught up in what I was reading. It was a book about Teddy Roosevelt. 😂

JW's avatar

We read it out loud also and have for 5 years. Good for your brain.

HOW is he so up to date on everything? And so knowledgable. AND so funny!

MeeMaw123's avatar

I can’t stand the automated voice on here. The humor is totally lost. My husband likes to listen instead of read and I make him wear headphones so I can have the pleasure of reading it and catching all the great snark.

AZGal55's avatar

I love that we have the audio option so I can listen in my car sometimes but I prefer reading Jeff's pieces because in reading it you dont miss the humor with the comedic interpretation. Jeff has a great sense of humor that has me laughing out loud at times.

Julinthecrown's avatar

And, just like that, a new career is born.

Delle's avatar

This would be hysterical. Although I would miss the bonding that comes along with reading the post out loud to family. It's fun to learn my house isn't the only that has adopted thisl tradition!

There IS copyright to think of...

And human creators are increasingly sensitive to AI "rip-offs" of what they made popular by their own brow-sweat.

"I'm no lawyer," but I think authors would welcome inquiries about "licensing" their intellectual property. "Fair-use" law, I think, may not have anticipated "AI Data Centers Scraping Everything Everywhere 24/7."

Not a crazy idea by any means, but potentially a dangerous one. The gifted creator of Calvin and Hobbes famously asked people to stop re-publishing his cartoons without permission, essentially asking people to "honor" him the old-fashioned way: by buying.

Truth Seeker's avatar

AS you allude, it is insane that people think that the AI interface is benign.

It is worse than crazy and worse than dangerous. It is a takeover.

Sharon Beautiful Evening's avatar

Yesterdays C&C was almost too good. There was nothing but accurate assessments.

Unfortunately today balances the previous review with pure Catholocism.

Was raised in that darkness. Affluenza typically had not just one carcass on the dinner table,

but two "options".

Demonizing "carbs" is nutritional illiteracy as it does not differentiate simple from complex.

However its worse. Because those complex carbs are typically glyphosate grown and field dried with the toxin, eating non Organic is a really bad choice.

Take home/ it ain't the carbs, its the Roundup. Gluten or Glyphosate?? which is the culprit??

Not lost is the fact that cows and pigs are at the top of the food chain (basic Biology) and concentrate toxins, making that "choice" sub optimal. So.

Any graduate gardener comprehends that they are well advised to feed the fungi and soil, that in turn feeds the chosen crop. That creates life. Abundantly.

Now that Janice has retired, perhaps a gentle Catholic might opine on exactly why Jesus was

so enraged that He flipped tables? Hint: What were they selling???

What did he teach about burnt offerings??

Well, we knew it was coming. Hard to believe that an individual of such paltry character - exceedingly insufficient in both deeds and speech…a most pathetic, unpleasant, shady, good-for-nothing schmuck of a creature - could be solely responsible for inciting a Civil War. There’s a GENUINE insurrection unfolding by the minute in Minnesota, and let’s be clear: This collection of misguided wayward ragtags have, predictably, taken to the streets pledging unwavering support to a foreign criminal cartel - led by their own state's governor - that has knowingly…systematically been ripping off honest, hard working Minnesotans for years. Putting a stop to this upsets them. "Never underestimate the power of stupid people." George Carlin, meet George Floyd 2.0…. on roids. National Guard vs. Feds....that should be interesting. If I'm National Guard, I'm thinking long game. I'd bow out of this one...immediate consequences be damned. Rumor has it ICE is hiring.

To add a brief side note: It ain't hard. They make it hard. Too easily triggered by media lies and bias. The Establishment will win over your mind every time. Get a freaking hobby. Discover the joys of stamp collecting. Take up fencing. Plant a flower garden…something. If you’re an emotional infant just get the hell off the streets and stop interfering. Caution: Grown ups at work.

Riddle me this Batman:

1) she was from Colorado.

Why is she in Minneapolis?

2) where and who is she staying with while in Minneapolis?

3) why is she driving a vehicle with Missouri license plates if she’s from Colorado?

I could list more, but the obvious is exhausting.

The revolution is always first with the Left. Always.

Maybe Walz and Frey should focus on the 50% increase in homicides since their tenure started.

They won't because the left always needs revolutionary actors.

Solzhenitsyn identified this 80 years ago:

“Your punishment for having a knife when they searched you would be very different from the thief’s. For him to have a knife was mere misbehavior, tradition, he didn’t know any better. But for you to have one was ‘terrorism.’”

And her lesbian wife was out there filming the whole thing with her iPhone. I wonder how much they're being paid. You have to be absolutely psychotic to do something like this if you have three children.

And where were those kids, in red-diaper baby camp? I'm so old-school that after I'd read the first headlines, spotlighting "mother", I was confused by later articles mentioning a "wife" filming. (Like those old logic puzzles, e.g. the brother's son is the granddad's cousin - wait, what?)

Only later did the true picture emerge: an outside extremist agitator intent on provoking conflict specifically to generate gotcha clips in hopes of viral spread via social media for max inflammation of brainwashed prog minions. In that sense, s/he/zir/whatsit got what they/them/retards wanted.

Verve's avatar

Michelle Enmark, DDS's avatar

Exactly one of my points as well, Cheryl. Concern for the officer and his mental health long term. His job has to take a toll on the spirit.

They are gossips, slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; they have no understanding, no fidelity, no love, no mercy. The destruction of the natural family is of biblical proportions. I remember back years ago when they coined the term domestic partnership, and the civil marriages started, knowing full well it would move to forced church weddings with the threat of removing tax exempt status for noncompliance. It's been so detrimental, this concept of "domestic partnerships". My brother-in-law got divorced and has been living with another woman for several years and has joint custody of their three daughters. I kind of pulled them aside and said hey, why don't you just get married? It's not a great look for your kids. And they just said something about domestic partnership, blah blah blah which isn't even a civil marriage in court to them, just living together. So this has affected all types of situations. The highest legal divorce rate is among lesbians, and I actually was one of those people that thought adoption of children by same-sex couples would pull some of those children out of bad sexual abuse situations in foster care. But now I don't even believe that anymore because of all the abuse situations that have come to light. There aren't enough mill stones on earth to take care of these reprobates.

If that BIL has ever spent one night together with his "partner" in a common law marriage USA state he could end up being deemed legally "married" to her for purposes of divorce and inheritance, plus federal pensions, death benefits, etc. Hope they have a signed and amended prenup for their domestic qua business partnership contract.

Minnesota Law, Ted Foss Move Over Law (MN Statutes 169.18 Subd. 11), requires vehicles to move over or slow down significantly when encountering emergency/service vehicles to protect the people involved. Here you have someone inserting themselves into a law enforcement action, with a vehicle that can be used as a deadly weapon, ignoring law enforcement commands and accelerating said vehicle with a law enforcement agent in it's path. It is unfortunate that this death occurred but who in their right mind would place themselves, law enforcement and innocent bystanders in harms way by trying to interfere with these lawful actions? By law, you have to get out of the way for tow trucks on the highway in Minnesota. This is just plain dangerous and in this case deadly.

Ruth H's avatar

This gives even more authority for ICE to respond with force while in MN and under their statute. Noem and Trump have both made it clear deadly force will be used if an agent’s life is threatened, as it should do so. This agitator should have paid more attention to her children instead of her activism.

I'm sad that her behavior got her killed. That said, Go Fund Me or some such was set up and raised $500,000 in 15 hours. Compare that to a young girl I saw on the Fox News Tonight show last night. Trace Gallagher was in the Pallisades fire area in L.A. to talk to people and show how next to nothing has been done to allow/help people rebuild their lives and homes. The CA and city govt holds everything up via impossible permits, and the insurance companies are dragging their feet and aren't paying out, probably in the hopes that people will give up rebuilding and then corporate buyers can rush in and take the property (well, take the land because the houses are gone). People whose homes were damaged and still unlivable can't get insurance help either. Worse, there was a big Fire Aid Fund set up and Hollywood celebrities were getting people to donate. The $100 million collectted was supposedly for the fire victims, but guess who got the money? Not the fire victims who were supposed to get all of the money. No, it went to Democrat advocacy groups, undocumented immigrants, podcasters, non-profit organization salaries and benefits. It doesn't sound like actual fire victims got a cent. So this is a big emerging scandal landing on Newsom, and the people in fire area are furious.

So this young girl was gratefully talking about how she and others had set up a Go Fund Me to help people who were not rich and who were in dire straits at this point a year later, and she was so happy to have raised $45,000. So that's $45K in almost a full year, and compare that to the $500K in 15 hours for a protester. And then there's the $100 million raised for but stolen from the fire victims.

SHug's avatar

Yeah, that "fire aid money" - https://www.cbsnews.com/losangeles/news/house-republicans-release-report-on-fireaid-fund-distribution/

Organizers of last January's FireAid benefit concert are once again facing accusations that the $100 million in donations did not directly help victims of the Los Angeles fires, after House Republicans published findings from their investigation on Tuesday.

Here is a run down of it https://www.fireaidla.org/grants

When they were collecting for it, they promised to help residents directly, that's what most people seemed to think their donations were going towards.

"The Latham & Watkins Investigative Report (that is Cali speak for an 'Audit' by the the organizers' law firm) highlights numerous examples of impact including the Change Reaction providing direct assistance totaling $1 million in aid, in the form of 197 direct cash grants to help people with rent, clothing, school supplies, furniture, food, and medication, among other needs."

- Let's see, $1M divided by 197 = $5076. - so just those 197 people

got about $5K each - for RENT in Commiefornia? put of $100 Mil

- Oh dear, oh dear .... lots of "childcare" listed. (shades of Minn?)

- Foster kids, about 4 different agencies

- Lots of "animal welfare" grants in there.

- Some donated funds used for payroll expenses at some nonprofits,

including the Neighborhood Legal Services of Los Angeles County, which

provided 'free' legal aid to fire victims. - is that still free if you pay $$?

- Some illegals being helped....

Sorry, I can't bear to look at any more of it, since the actual PEOPLE impacted were not helped. Infuriating.

Truth Seeker's avatar

One would be forgiven for classifying this well documented event in the same category as Ashli Babbit, the Brooklyn Subway event, and the Buffalo NY event…. Why? Its timely, fit perfectly into the surrounding events, triggers the desired responses, and overall looks shady as all get out.

Skeptical Actuary's avatar

I would not be at all surprised if the DC cop was TOLD to shoot a protester in hopes of riling up other protesters and making them violent.

And I would not be surprised if Officer Siknick's stroke wasn't actually a stroke. I wonder if someone on the left killed him, hoping that his death would get attributed to the rioters. The people high up on the left don't care who they have to kill to get their ends.

This was just a few weeks after the clot shots rolled out, so it's pretty unlikely the police would have taken them yet.

They are convinced her murder was justified

Conservative Contrarian's avatar

Speaking of Twiter, this morning someone, a blue check type, commented on how some post were being censored. I specifically commented, saying "Censorship is a by-product of weakness"; that's it.

A few minutes later the twits at twiter notified me, a non-blue check type, my post will now have limited exposure; it was nice of them to validate my comment, I didn't even have to ask.

Ask me if I care ...... 🤠 🥓

Michelle Flanigan's avatar

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AdgEsZc27zs

Skip to **8:14**. The video slows the footage and clearly shows the officer positioned to the right (the SUV’s passenger side). The SUV then backs up, turns toward the officer, and accelerates— but the wheel spins on the ice. As the wheel turns toward the officer and he hears the engine rev, he draws his weapon and fires. As he fires the wheel then turns towards the right.

It’s a very compelling sequence, and I sincerely hope news outlets, social media, and podcasters take the time to review it carefully.

Another video, taken from inside a nearby home, also clearly shows the officer being struck by the vehicle.

According to reports, the woman had been moving her SUV back and forth in the road to prevent the agents from getting past her. Her “wife” was sitting on the sidewalk specifically so she could record the incident.I hope that footage is eventually released as well.

Truth Seeker's avatar

Thanks, can't bear to watch, it is crystal clear what happened.

The fake news instantly countered the vid evidence for this issue and countless

others. The "wife" laments inspiring the incident. There are consequences for really bad choices.

Michelle Enmark, DDS's avatar

Thank you, Ryan for this information. I was unaware of the suspicious nature of her residency. Apparently, members of her own family have basically stated that she was a prime example of someone who followed a FAFO mentality ( my take on what they have said ). Yes, we are in the hot takes phase, but it appears, and I am predicting that the ICE officer and his fellow officer who was standing on the driver’s side door area of the car, will be cleared of all wrongdoing. It’s a very traumatic situation all around, for the agent/s, their families, and for the deceased’s children. Sad, although inevitable in the current environment.

"life under systems to protect rights and peace is a good thing. such systems are worthy of protection. but what we must protect them from most of all is corruption and capture, misuse and manipulation. if a system is what a system does, then a corrupt system is corruption and it becomes the enemy.

"and the pivot comes.

"when one loses faith in systems and starts to see them as useless, or worse, rigged, then it both moral and sensible to tear these systems down. not just step outside them, efface them.

"this is why the people who have captured these systems hate trump so much. it’s not personal, it’s that he is coming to take away their pretense to power, revealing it as illusion and helping tigers become tigers again."

She was not from MN, used pronouns, had a wife (fine) & 3 children (the real victims). I had several people, all Dems, call me to say this was unjustified murder of an innocent person, that the ICE agent wasn’t struck by the car & he was not injured. Well, is this the smoking gun? No, they are not Federal. AND, they have ZERO law enforcement authority. Typically, they "back up" law enforcement, i.e. transport arrestees, etc.

Skenny's avatar

The people crying about the agitator who was shot in Minneapolis are largely the same people who cheered Charlie Kirk's death. They would have cheered if the driver had killed ICE agents. So for them, it's not a question of right or wrong, but rather whose team you are on.

Further, democrat leaders, such as the mayor of Minneapolis, Walz, Omar, etc., view people like Renee Good as expendable. They welcome and crave such an event because of the additional popularity and attention it brings to them. They probably care less about Renee Good as a person than the agent who felt it necessary to shoot her.

PEL's avatar

Correct. Apparently the first newspeople were more interested in the name of the officer than the name of the person killed. She was expendable and merely a tool for their rage.

Stochastic terrorism describes how public figures use mass media to repeatedly demonize groups or individuals, creating a climate where random, statistically probable acts of violence by followers become likely, even without direct calls for violence, often insulating the instigator from legal blame due to First Amendment protections for speech.

Great point about bullet entry vector. Many outlets are posting still photos of the ICE agent beside the left side of the car with gun in hand in an effort to prove he wasn’t about to be hit…but the video clearly shows him in front of the moving car when he shot and beside it (gun in hand) only after the shots were fired and he’d moved out of the way.

I looked at the photo of the woman and the video, and it is my opinion that she is the type to firmly believe that she has "white privilege" and could get away with trying to run over an ICE agent.

It is also my opinion, although I obviously don't really know, that ICE agents have been warned to avoid killing black or brown people, knowing that that would immediately be stirred into riots.

It looks like white privilege ran into "coddle POC'' instructions.

But lesbian? I heard she was a single mother of one child, whose father died two years ago. And of course I thought, why would a young man die in 2023? Probably the GMO injectable.

Hara-kiri (belly-cutting) is the common, less formal term for seppuku, a ritual suicide by disembowelment historically performed by Japanese samurai to restore honor, atone for offenses, or avoid capture, though it also refers to a classic 1962 Japanese film by Masaki Kobayashi and a 2011 remake about honor and revenge, as well as a French satirical magazine. The practice involved a ritualistic cutting of the abdomen with a short blade, often followed by a swift decapitation by a second (a kaishakunin) to end the suffering

Juju's avatar

I don’t know if anyone else caught it but Walz went into painstaking detail that the National Guard was theirs, they were their own citizens, doctors, lawyers, teachers, small business owners (he said,) almost as if reassuring the rioters that they would indeed be on their side and fighting WITH them. If the PD is anything to go by last night when Nick Sorter tried to get their help, Walz is correct. They even asked Sorter if he was white! They basically left him to fend for himself and refused to help. If THEY are part of the Guard, this WILL become a Civil War. And frankly maybe it’s time for one because I’m so tired of all this lawlessness.

Hoffmeister's avatar

Just my opinion FWIW, but Walz appears to be involved with a continuing criminal enterprise ( RICCO Violations ) regarding the states' federal assistance dollar fraud operations, and now he's trying to direct a military conflict.....you'd think a prosecutor would have a lot of literary phraseology to incorporate into the charging document

Belling the Cat's avatar

CStone's avatar

I like it!!!! Let’s GO!!!!

Belling the Cat's avatar

We'll like a hot civil war even less, and what comes afterwards far less than that.

Juju's avatar

Liking something less that ends the madness for good vs something that drags on endlessly and saps us of feeling safe and sane - well that doesn’t seem like a hard choice.

Belling the Cat's avatar

Unfortunately, that's not how these things play out in the real world of human beings. Civil wars aren't short & sweet with neat endings but vicious & bitter, inflicting wounds that suppurate for generations. Getting emotional about it, or desperate, ensures maximum opportunity for manipulators to make things worse, as 'influencers' and viral social media already do, but far deadlier. It will be spirals of violence against personal rivals, political enemies, scapegoats of all description, passersby, the girl who dumped some loser on the other side but along with her whole neighborhood, locking folks in a church or the university DEI office and burning it down. It happens. Safe and sane is a million miles away.

If there are semi-domesticated progs happy to change their minds at gunpoint, the woman in Minn. wasn't one of them, nor her fellow travelers now doubling down. It would be unwise to discount hordes of illegals and others unassimilated, who have no reason not to exacerbate and prolong hot civil war - for their own gain or just for spite. If we'd like to believe there are countries that won't mobilize to get in on the action, can anyone think they won't make sure to get in on the spoils?

Who's going to be patrolling the borders and coastlines while we fight each other? Who's maintaining basic services, from sanitation to arresting common criminals? Who produces oil and gas -- immediate targets of enemy action that blow up real good -- much less takes care of getting it out to businesses and regular folk for survival and daily life? Who enforces contracts, meets payroll, keeps the lights on? Who's defending the Western Hemisphere as our essential buffer from the rest of the world's predators while we're focused on living through economic supply and production disruptions worse than lockdowns?

A glance at historical cases like Syria, Kosovo, Sudan, Spain, and many more, should serve to convince that the fantasy of a quick & decisive civil war that restores (one side's version of) stability [much less prosperity] has as much chance of happening on this earth as Mamdani's NYC becoming the first paradise of true communism.

“Well, actually I don’t,” said the student, “but I hate to see you standing up there all by yourself.”

A voice from the back of the room said, “Yeah, right.”

The bear catches up to him, knocks him down on the ground, then gets on its knees and says, “Dear Lord, thank you for this food I am about to receive…”

The Scared Cab Driver

A taxi passenger tapped the driver on the shoulder to ask him a question.

For a second, everything was quiet in the cab. Then the driver said, “Look, mate, don’t ever do that again. You scared the living daylights out of me!”

The passenger apologized and said, “I didn’t realize that a little tap would scare you so much.”

The driver replied, “Sorry, it’s not really your fault. Today is my first day as a cab driver — I’ve been driving a funeral van for the last 25 years.”

I tried skiing once as a small child and it terrified me! My dad was in the Army and we lived in Germany, and went to a famous ski resort on vacation. That was before my parents realized I was extremely nearsighted and needed glasses. No wonder it was so scary! I’ve never wanted to try it again.

In 2009 after the crash, the market was flooded with sub-100k nice single family homes.

The FED then digitally printed and bankrolled companies like BlackRock to immediately buy them from the banks, robbing American home buyers, and once purchased began raising the market price to the obscene levels we now see today. I watched this outright crime happen in real time. Everytime these markets "crash" they are timed to be bought by elites for pennies, robbing us and concentrating wealth to the top.

"If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around them will deprive the people of all property until their children wake up homeless on the continent their Fathers conquered.... I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies.... The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people, to whom it properly belongs."

"Permit me to issue the currency of the nation, and i care not who makes its laws." —Rothschild

TriTorch It's comments like this that keep me coming back to Substack five years later. I can't get enough of coffee and Covid commentary, not to mention the stellar Substack itself. Jeff is masterful! I was so excited to see the new food pyramid- it's how I've been eating for the past five years. I reposted it on all my social media within minutes. I guess I will end up losing whatever liberal friends I had left. So be it. I have boiling anger for the hospital dietary cabal. I remember my sister sobbing after a kidney transplant as they served her a turkey lunch meat sandwich, chocolate pudding, Jell-O, and orange juice. I wouldn't serve that meal to someone on death row. Transplant patients are never supposed to eat any lunch meat at all due to potential listeria poisoning which causes organ failure. You can't even make this up because this was actually considered a very good hospital on the East Coast. I remember my sister saying what's wrong with them? I'm starving and I can't even eat this. And the amount of sugar on the rest of that tray was absolutely criminal. You can't hate the hospital medical complex enough.

TriTorch's avatar

And its replies like this that are a big reason why i kept coming back. How powerful Verve. Best to you and your sister. I hope she is healthy and happy and the fixed food pyrimad is a delightful sight for her to.behold!

That military contract is huge too. We start cutting back on excess military spending as we are with pharma, we just might take control of our government again as those have a lot of say in our federal spending: https://unorthodoxy.substack.com/p/understanding-the-ruling-class-of

Valerie's avatar

Except he wants to increase spending by 50%. But I’m still hopeful. After all, the federal government is only tasked with ‘providing for the common defense’ and ‘providing for the common welfare’ so that’s spending the federal government is ACTUALLY supposed to be doing, and if it can be done with less fraud, I don’t hate it. Our common defense IS strategically important to the health of our country. So.

Also, the phrase ‘common welfare’ has been stretched to the breaking point, but that’s another topic.

Juju's avatar

He DID say it would not be possible without tariffs and without them he wouldn’t have increased the spending by one cent. But because of them he was able to fund this increase.

Kevin's avatar

My first guess would be a 50% in jobs in the military production end of things, but that's *just* a guess...

GregWA's avatar

So, jobs are better created through government spending vs private? See "the unseen hand" by Bastiat. An old work, but relevant.

My take on the 50% increase: no need for it. you could get 50% more stuff from the $1 trillion we spend now by putting Elon in charge of MIC R&D and procurement.

Of course, Elon would start by DOGEing DoW!

Kevin's avatar

I didn't say that, but an increase in work flow requires an increase in workers.

Even if it's not 1 to 1, you're still going to need more people to do stuff, even if it's building the buildings, or the unseen army of that gets the raw materials to make the metals to make the parts. More is more.

Bleonard3's avatar

Perhaps, though with military pricing I am pessimistic how much will trickle down to new factories and workers

Kevin's avatar

Re: New food pyramid

Comment here if you have used dietary changes to reverse chronic conditions when doctors wanted to medicate you for the rest of your life.

Juju's avatar
Jan 8Edited

Four years ago after almost losing my life a decade early I learned how corrupt and blind our medical institutions were, and how our nutritionists had been indoctrinated and were misleading us, along with the government, a d how the food pyramid was upside down and the cause of our bad health. (Thank you Nina Ticholz). I studied diet and nutrition for three long months 24/7, switched my household to support a Keto diet, and within six months was off over 14 prescription drugs I had relied on the prior 25 years. Four years later I sit here with only sever osteoporosis caused by the prescription drugs, but none of the other conditions. I haven’t felt midday drowsy in four years, energy of my 20s, mental clarity better than any time in my life. My primary food is meat and its accompanying fat. I limit my fruits and veggies to those with a higher fiber content. I use intermittent fasting, and an occasional extended fast. I actually added years to my life visibly too, easily looking ten years younger today than I looked four years ago.

My household that supported my diet? My husband dropped ALL his excess weight and is very fit today, and my older son is also more fit than he has ever been and has better mental health.

My younger son joined me my first year, dropped ALL his extra fat, looked amazing, had better attention levels and lower anxiety. He fell off due to crazy college schedules and today is back to where he was eating the bad processed food, overweight again, and struggling mentally. Luckily he sees the connection to his diet and is trying to get back into a low carb habit again.

Tonya's avatar

That is incredible! I am especially interested in the connection between metabolic health and mental health. It sounds very promising to help with a number of conditions.

Juju's avatar

A really good book about the connection is Dr Chris Palmer’s “Brain Energy”.

We’ve seen first hand amazing positive results for mental health in three of us. As well as better treatment for many of the spectrum issues my kids face, and myself for that matter. There is definitely something to ketones feeding the brain instead of glucose.

Tonya's avatar

It's too bad the new recommendations still limit saturated fat, though.

https://unsettledscience.substack.com/p/butter-is-not-back-the-broken-promise

dancingtime's avatar

There are good fats and bad fats....Eat the way your grandparents did (or great-grandparents, depending on your age)....I haven't eaten non-butter for multiple decades and buy French brand butter....from cows producing A2 milk....As my grandmother 55 years ago said as she watched me cut off the fat from her award-winning pot roast: "A little fat won't hurt you.".....BTW, she lived to be 93 and still full facultied and at home.....she would have most likely have lived longer if the doctor hadn't ignored her sulphur allergy...

Johnny-O's avatar

Too low on veg/fruit as well. But overall, much much improved.

Steve Stevens's avatar

This new pyramid is upside down.

Lydia Lozano's avatar

Amazing that you managed to MISS THE ENTIRE POINT.

Dolce Far Niente's avatar

Logically...since it doesn't have a flat polygonal base, it's not and never was a pyramid, no matter which way it's pointed.

Now that you understand that a pyramid is a shape with 3 dimensions and the food thingie only ever had two, you will agree that the original use of "pyramid" was merely rhetorical and not meant to describe an actual structure in space, and the current nomenclature of food pyramid merely repeats that nomenclature for familiarity's sake.

"Invert food triangle" just doesn't flow off the tongue the same way, now does it?

Or is that too complex for you?

Source your food carefully…locally if you can. I suspect a war on pesticides and food preservation is on deck.

Juju's avatar
Jan 8Edited

The problem with “locally” is they use the pesticides too. Often local food tastes off to me - just shy of rotten and a bit moldy at times. I DID try this route several years ago and it was not a positive experience.

Tom's avatar

Glyphosates running off my neighbor's lawn.

I am establishing some raised beds. It's painfully slow, especially given my own slothfulness. If slothfullness is even a word.

Comfrey, Bocking 4 or Bocking 14 for fertilizing.

Willow "tea" for rooting of cuttings.

Jerusalem artichokes, "chufa" yellow nutsedge, purslane, and claytonia virginica.

Proverbs 13:23 (ESV)

"The fallow ground of the poor would yield much food, but it is swept away through injustice."

Leo's avatar

Nope. Go to Farmer's Markets and buy Organic.

Juju's avatar

That’s what I did. They are NOT all grown/raised well and it is apparent in the taste. I’m not saying there can’t be good options there, I’m just saying that my experience shows they have their own quality control problems and are desperate to sell their stock even past freshness dates. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Tom's avatar

The "system" is trying very hard to undo the curse of the fall in Eden. The "system" will appear to succeed.

I will toil. But it's YWVH Who delivers!

Leo's avatar

Juju, Ick! No one wants to buy food like that. Sorry that's your situation. I'm sure it matters where you live/garden. In Oregon, the Farmer's Markets are luscious and clean.

KBB's avatar

Local sourcing sounds great in theory, but not every area is suited to growing/raising every kind of food so the variety can be limited. For example, we live in southern New Mexico and we love seafood. Not a lot of local options. [smirk] And the stuff at the supermarket is seriously suspect. So we buy from a small-fisherman co-op in Alaska that ships premium product frozen to your door. (Sitka Seafood Market, in case you're curious. Highly recommend.)

And while there is a lot of cattle ranching around here, they are not exactly "grass fed" since we have little to no grass, just cactus and creosote. Also not many chicken farms. So we buy from a source in Indiana where the local conditions support pasture-raising animals on a regenerative farm. (Seven Sons Farm, again highly recommend.)

Produce, similarly, is limited in variety if you want locally grown. If you want chile or onions you're in luck. Oranges, lettuce, broccoli - not so much. But organic options are in excellent variety and supply at all the big national supermarkets now.

It costs more per pound but it's cheaper than getting sick!

CStone's avatar

Even locals used pesticides.

Alice in W’land - If you want a fascinating read on how the old food pyramid came about and how the incorrect info about saturated fats got started in the scientific community, I highly recommend “The Big Fat Surprise - Why Butter, Meat and Cheese Belong in a Healthy Diet” by Nina Teicholz.

https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/the-big-fat-surprise-nina-teicholz/1116872766

It’s based on nine years of scientific research and was recommended to me by my PCP when we lived in MA (We escaped!) He made the comment to me that he always read the studies but had not done so on the low fat (supposedly) heart healthy diet because he assumed it was “settled science.” (Where have we heard That before?!) He was shocked at what he learned. Anyway, it sounds as if it would be dry reading but it’s anything but that! It’s eye opening and you’d like it.

Alice in Wonderland's avatar

Thank you! (my computer won't let me "like" anything, kind of annoying.) Where in Mass. was this doctor practicing? I'm originally from there.

Free in Florida's avatar

Hi Alice - He is in Waltham. We lived in Westford - (As an aside, I had a fabulous group of six friends who met volunteering for Scott Brown’s U.S. Senate campaign and we have remained close since, even though half the group of six just couldn’t take the politics any more and left. I’m originally from FL so that was easy.) The doc was superb - Harvard Medical school grad back when it meant something - as I had mentioned, prided himself on always reading studies and hadn’t on that one. Book is an eye opener.

But, on Massachusetts - the state is so beautiful, particularly if you like hiking and the outdoors, which we do - and has such a rich history - but it was insufferable in so many other ways. It’s too bad. Where are you from in MA?

Alice in Wonderland's avatar

I grew up in Needham, had an "alternative" doctor in Newton several millennia ago who was a lot like the frontline docs we are blessed with now; have spent the second half of my life in Boulder, where the hiking and the outdoors generally are perfectly heavenly (looking out my bedroom window now at the fresh snow from this morning on Mount Audubon), although I do miss the lakes terribly, having spent years in Maine and NH before coming here. (And I won't even attempt to describe the POLITICAL habitat here ... )

I agree about the revolutionary, etc. history ~ have been thrilled to have it come alive for me in recent years as never so vibrantly and *in front of my very eyes* before ~ always so meaningful, but now ALIVE. I have a chair in my living room that Washington once sat in when he was in Connecticut (where my family's been since 1650) to meet with one of his generals, Putnam ~ he and the heroes of that era are more present for me now than ever.

Wonderful that you got back to FREE Florida (I miss "Live Free or Die" New Hampshire :) ~ so beautiful there and so *alive* when large swaths of our country are in such straits, to put it mildly. God bless you and may freedom reign ~

Free in Florida's avatar

Hi Alice - It sounds as if we are So on the same page! I grew up in Florida and never met anyone else with my maiden name. Then, when we moved to New England with my husband’s work, I found it in several places. It turns out (who knew? LOL) that my direct ancestor on my father’s side was one of the original founders of Charlestown, MA - came over on the ship Abigail from England in 1628 with his two brothers. It has been so interesting to delve into some of that genealogy. I love history, so between that and the hiking (and, yes, agree totally - the lakes!), I really enjoyed it. Having grown up without snow, I even liked that. What drove me out was the politics. The lack of common sense was stressful to me and since my husband could work remotely, we left and moved back here in Sept, 2020 (in time to vote where it could make a difference.)

There are always trade offs - We have no good hiking here and I miss the terrain and some good friends left behind but living in a conservative area where people are generally very pleasant and not authoritarian works for me.

I would Love to have a piece of furniture that Washington sat in. Wow. Washington is my favorite president. (Another really good book recommendation is Ron Chernow’s bio of Washington. It’s superb!)

Re FLCCC docs and alternative medicine were life savers, literally - We had fabulous clinical medicine in MA but I’ll bet our pcp would have dropped us since I refused to take the covid jab. Here, it was a different story.

God bless you also and, indeed, may freedom ring! 🇺🇸
