So many Americans died from Covid because the protocols for treating them were crap, and doctors hid behind them. In 2021 my dad had open heart surgery and when he asked for more vitamins or supplements, he was given whatever he asked for. When my mom was hospitalized with Covid pneumonia a few months later, she requested extra doses of vitamin D among other things and was denied because “it was not protocol.” 🙄

I was forced onto a ventilator for 9 days and survived. Being strapped to your bed with a hardware store down your throat, catheters, thirst, unable to move or talk. It was a real blast.
I can’t imagine how you survived 35 days on a ventilator. Your family must have cried to see you. I spent 11 days in ICU on maximum oxygen. The dr. Told me “All we have left is a ventilator.” Told my wife twice that “he might not make it through the day”. Every breath was so hard and took full focus. I was on oxygen for 60 days after I got out.
I was on high flow for two days. Doctor said I should go on the vent. I refused. Doctor said your life is a coin flip. Those words. So I did. A funny story here. After I got out of the hospital, I had to have a scleral buckle surgery repaired on my right eye and I am convinced the vent caused the damage. Anyway I am sitting in my eye doctors office chatting with a couple, one of whom is getting the same repair. I am chatting about being a covid patient. One of the women in the room, an off duty nurse maybe mid 40's, says can I ask you a question? Sure. Were you vaxxed? Because you see in her mind, had I been responsible and gotten the vax- none of this would have happened. It was my fault.
Infuriating. The doctor who discharged me actually said to me, I hope you’ll get vaccinated in the next few months.” I just smiled for fear they would vaccinate me on the spot.
My husband definitely thought he was going to lose me a few times. My kids probably feared that too. They made my husband sign a DNR before they would perform a tracheostomy on me. They called their “rapid action team” on me in the middle of the night for my O2 falling below 89. My room filled with people. They put a bi-pap on me, in which they declared I had failed within 15 min. Then the ventilator. I used oxygen 24-7 after getting out for several months, then just at night and with exertion for a while longer. It probably took a couple years before I was off it completely. Still get winded easier than most, but just slow down when I do.
Thank you for posting this. I often get disturbed when people minimize covid and call it a bad flu. I had no comorbidities other than I was overweight 20 pounds and 60 years old. The vent blew a retinal detachment repair of my right eye which was a successful repair and 10 years old. The secondary repair has left the eye blurry. But I am grateful to be alive and I can't even imagine what 35 days and the rehab time must have been like. I was in for 21 days.
6 months?? Oh my. After 21 days, I couldn't walk. Dr. forced me to hop from the window to the door before he would release me. I had no idea that lying on your back for 3 weeks would turn me into a vegetable. I cannot imagine how atrophied you'd be after 6 months. My wife advocated for me non stop and never left the room. Without her keeping an eye on the nurses, instruments, and doctors well, I feel very bad for people that must endure this alone.
I was only 49, but very overweight, so shouldn’t have survived. But God! I was in for a total of 56 days. I’m sorry to hear the vent damaged your retinal repair and you still have vision issues! Do you have any lasting lung damage? I had to remain on supplemental oxygen for some time after being discharged and still have reduced lung capacity. They wouldn't release me until the O2 distributor dropped a few tanks off at my house. I used it for about 2 weeks. But I got crazy determined to walk every day- hard. I had lost my excess weight in the hospital and yet my first day walking- I could only go 100 yards. It was pathetic. But I kept pushing until I could walk two miles without stopping. It took quite a while. I still get winded easily doing odd chores around the house- mainly lifting heavy items. I am probably 90% of what I was. I am glad you are here. I like to think there was some reason we were spared.

They are right about the doublethink required to support Trump but separate him from his OWS. The struggle is real. His continued defense of such a terrible decision track as his Scamdemic policies, from initial lockdown, playing into media hype, turning his government over to medical tyrants, and then insistence that an experimental biotechnology solution with no proven safety or efficacy record to be "warp-speeded" into hundreds of millions has been the most disastrous and deadly set of decisions a chief executive has ever made.

We had a conservative HS teacher in our district who was pushed out because some girls said he was using "inappropriate language" with them. I knew him personally and he would never say anything provocative. So he retired early (January), and then the district was in a lurch because they had no one to fill his shoes due to the advanced classes he taught and his certifications. It was hilarious to watch!

I was an aide in one when I worked my way through graduate school and walked into a patient's room just as another aide was slapping him across the face. I reported her; nothing happened to her. A friend was in for 6 months. The hospital was trying to move her to a hospice type
facility before a friend got a patient advocate and another doctor who promptly said the hospital was doing everything right if the goal was simply
to keep her ALIVE (barely) but NOTHING to ever heal her. if they continued what they were doing, she would stay right where she was, with no end.

Personally I know of a few teachers that were pushed out of education because of their conservative viewpoint and high school girls (led by liberal white female teachers) were used to accomplish it. When my husband taught, the rule was never close the door to the classroom and never be alone with a student...
We had a conservative HS teacher in our district who was pushed out because some girls said he was using "inappropriate language" with them. I knew him personally and he would never say anything provocative. So he retired early (January), and then the district was in a lurch because they had no one to fill his shoes due to the advanced classes he taught and his certifications. It was hilarious to watch!
It's like the Me Too movement's "Believe all women". Some are telling the truth. And some are not. Children & Teens can tell the truth and lie as well.

There is a term "Dance of the Lemons" that I first came across in the late 1990's. It talked about the low quality of teachers and how unions protected them. (NYC infamously had rooms where the 'sourest' of the lemons would go in to a location and just sit with other lemons and get paid to do nothing.)

I was a public school teacher for 25 years and about 99% of my colleagues were as dumb as bricks. Anyone can get into teacher training programs, the bar is so low.
Being in IT, I see a lot of those same 'bricks'. It's the 80/20 rule. 20% of the people do more to cover for the substandard 80%, yet don't often get commensurate pay.
Then when mediocrity gets promoted, they think the mediocres that are like themselves are 'achievers' too. Vicious cycle. In today's terms if this was AI, we'd call it "slop" and a spiral downward.
We were blessed to not send our kids to public schools.
I saw it. At some point decades ago, ‘group learning’ and ‘group teaching’ began. The smart ones do the work and the others share the grades or the teaching protocols.
My older 3 went to a private Christian School. Very rigorous. I had to suffer through the public school experience with my youngest. Even in an affluent district, the whole experience was awful.
Hoover.org.? some of the best teachers ended up there for not dumbing kids down. Trotkyite book publishers control books and programs. Teachers are targets and lumped in with the creeps. Divide and conquer.
Imagine a country where kids, before they graduate, have to read Dr. Thomas Sowell, maybe his "The Thomas Sowell Reader" to start, and one more of his like "Social Justice Fallacies" or "Discrimination and Disparities".
I always recommend "Basic Economics."
I used to love reading his columns, especially the "Random Thoughts" ones. Those contained many pearls of wisdom. Here was his last one before he retired. So many apropos for today.

I hate to say this, but I do think there are abusers in elder care who abuse the stigma of talking about it.
I don't disagree. My point can be extended to say that those who would abuse older people end up in care homes. I was an aide in one when I worked my way through graduate school and walked into a patient's room just as another aide was slapping him across the face. I reported her; nothing happened to her. The theme here is that those who would prefer a particular kind of victim will gravitate to the places where those people are.

Your comment also got me thinking about all of the Disney World employees that get nabbed in child trafficking stings. I can't understand why parents turn a blind eye to that when its public knowledge.
Not a problem; I had actually thought of including those who abuse old people in my initial comment and then deleted that part. And yes, the Disney employees! I had forgotten about those monsters. About teachers, though: all my life I've heard stories about cruel teachers in grade schools, and high schools. My district had an English teacher who threw boys against the wall; one high school teacher who had affairs with girls in an empty house across the street from the high school; a primary grade teacher who publicly shamed kindergarteners who wet themselves in school. Oh, and a male phys.ed. teacher who had the girls in his mixed classes do an exercise that had them pushing their chests forward so as to push out their breasts. The boys loved it; the girls were humiliated. All of those teachers didn't leave teaching until they were able to retire.
