ERRATA

— The DeSantis campaign agreed to debate Newsom back in August, but plans were only announced this week. Fixed.

Roman S Shapoval's avatar

Thanks for keeping on top of all these events. You are really the New Media for so many Jeff. Thank you for your tireless commitment.

Cheryl Caraglior's avatar

Exactly. I don't watch lame stream news anymore, not even Fox. C & C and Newsmax are my go tos now. Wouldn't have survived the Covid hysteria without your facts and humor, Jeff.

The Fifster's avatar

Yea Newsmax?? Is Newsmax just yesterday's FOX? After all just like all their media siblings they made millions, (billion$) in advertising revenue paid for with We The People's taxpayer $$$$$$$$. GMAFB THE CARES ACT STILL LIVES!

Janet's avatar

Cheryl, I have said the same so many times (re surviving the insanity I was witnessing). C & C/ Mr Childers kept me sane (some may argue that point), while also enduring a horrible divorce at the same time. I feel truly indebted to his efforts, work and comedic blog.

Lynn46's avatar

Well, I have to say I do watch Mark Levin on Sunday and a new one on Sat. The man is brilliant. Was wondering how long they were going to allow him on even Sun and they give him another time slot.

So...... 🤔

You're an example to the broken news media. Nobody expects 100% accuracy, we do expect integrity. Thank you, counselor.

Effort to prop up Fox AND test case for who the D's trot out as a Bob Peters replacement - win/win for the losers? Not sure I want to watch that smarmy looking Newsom for more than a few minutes, he gives me the creeps! I might just have to listen to it. Hope DeSantis wipes the floor with him!!

MakalekaAnne's avatar

If Hannity has any self respect left, he will grill Newsome on the terrible conditions of California and the trail of constituents hightailing it out of that state at record speed. You know Newsome will say things any America loving person will want to hear, but Hannity better bring it back to the horrible policies that he has instituted in California over the years! No one cares about the transgender law that he just vetoed, only because we really know that he wanted to pass it! He cares nothing about the kids!

Julie Ann B's avatar

Hannity lost all credibility, in my opinion, when he refused to admit the truth that the 2020 election was rigged. He is clearly owned by Fox and doesn’t have the integrity or the spine to stand up to the Murdoch regime.

Donna in MO's avatar

Not to mention his views on the shot.

Donna in MO's avatar

I only listen to him when I am in the car - we have 2 talk radio stations and I flip back and forth between him and Dave Ramsey if I am out and about in the afternoon, so I am not an expert on his views. BUT in 2021 he just did not bring it up as far as I could tell. He was too cowardly to take a stand. No Dr. McCullough or Dr. Ryan Cole or other courageous doc interviews. It was a huge issue in 21 and I was flabbergasted that almost none of the talk radio folks even took a stand other than say 'against the mandates'. Lost all respect for Ben Shapiro as he said often that he got it 'to protect vulnerable loved ones'. Of course he has changed his tune now, but too late. He went from 3 hours on the air here down to one hour, suspect this issue hurt his popularity.

RunningLogic's avatar

Yes, I was also going to add this.

Sunlover's avatar

I’m sure he has shares in “Monoclonal Antibodies”! Great news if you had that one on your bingo card!

Cynthia's avatar

I lost any remaining miniscule shred of respect for Hannity back in 2020 when he interviewed George Floyd's "minister" on his show. He went on and on about how poor George was in the process of turning his life around when he died. That segment was the nail in the Hannity coffin for me.

HLG's avatar

Hannity should ask the questions and get out of the way. Debate moderators suddenly think they are the stars and should be insta-fact-checking candidates.

BBS's avatar

Hannity's fake humility is given away by his total inability to stop talking. He never listens. He asks a question and then, without taking a breath, answers it himself. The person he is interviewing sits there, awkwardly, waiting for an opening that rarely comes. I can' t stand him and anyone he interviews has to be left wondering why they wasted their time. To think Fox pays this self-important jerk $25 million a year.

WP William's avatar

Sean Vanity; also claiming Dems want to make Puerto Rico a State but not informed enough to read it in the 2016/2020 Rep. Platform?

HLG's avatar

I think Hannity is a blowhard. I won't be watching for him but for the debaters.

I don’t watch debates at all anymore. Too much gotcha, loaded questions, favoritism, & nothing said or done would affect my choice.

Hannity has one talent: Talking over his interviewees. It is unfortunate that such a washed-up hack is moderating what could be a revealing debate.

on the doss's avatar

He will definitely make sure to tell us all, as we have heard forever about his dish wasking jobs and his construction stints, it will be mostly about himself. Time he grew up and realized that we don't give a s--- about him.

ConcernedGrammy's avatar

He BRAGS that he does his own grocery shopping! Hey, Sean, guess what? We ALL do!

Truthseeker's avatar

Hannity is entertainment news… it’s not the same as the news. And sadly that’s really all that’s on TV now. He wants to be a personality. An Opinion maker. Not just report the news. They’re different things.

Fox and CNN are trying to sell their channel as news but it’s not. Not on either charnel. It’s entertainment news. Filled with TV personalities (only one step from an actor, in my opinion) and their opinions.

Roger Beal's avatar

Agreed. Real news reportage is found in Substack blogs (C&C being one of the best); on Rumble; sometimes on YouTube; on Breitbart's "Just The News" programs on SiriusXM; on OAN; sometimes on Sky News Australia. There you've got half a dozen reasons to ditch the TV set and the Dish!

The Fifster's avatar

Dr Linda's avatar

I doubt Hannity has the intestinal fortitude. Maybe I’m wrong.

MsReid's avatar

He HAS interviewed Newsome on his show on Fox. And it sounded like a joke to me... a complete kiss up extravaganza. Newsome ran over him and Hannity just wimped along not pressing for honest, straightforward answers. I used to like to listen to him, but he's become so arrogant and .... very "limp". (The only work I could think of).

One of Tucker Carlson's first videos on X posited that our government has already been taken over by coup and to expect the installation of Newsom (not his exact words, but close.)

I can't help but look at this debate and wonder if the media and government are just going to ignore Biden/Trump and promote Newsom/DeSantis and this is the first foray into such an excursion. I don't think the population would go for it, but there's lots of stuff going on now that I don't think the population would go for but no one stops... Also, what does the government/media do about ballots? They can't just put whoever they want on the ballot; there is a process. But we're brazenly diverging from the process. I can't help but wonder why.

Had to come back and edit my comment because I just found this: https://twitter.com/JamesBradleyCA/status/1706278086042366295

Unfortunately, you're right. Gardening is more productive than politics anyway!

Donna in MO's avatar

Yes, gardening is my refuge! Sadly this year has even sucked in that regard, as we have had very little rain & the squirrels and other critters have worked overtime stealing produce and digging things up. Came home to one planter that was destroyed and found walnuts buried in the dirt. I don't even know where the closest walnut tree is at?!

S.P.H.'s avatar

I feel your pain Donna. You would have a walnut tree in a couple years if the Lord tarries.

In case that link doesn't work, the tweet (or xeet?) says:

Political author Greg Rubini has reported inside info that:

Kamala will be forced to resign as VP, and sent to the senate to replace Dianne Feinstein.

Then, Gavin Newsom will be subbed in as VP.

THEN they will REMOVE Joe Biden from office.

QUOTE: “either he will ‘die of Covid’ or ‘he fell from his bicycle’ or whatever. One way or another, he will be forced to resign.”

Then, Newsom will run against Trump!

I HAVE NO TROUBLE BELIEVING ANY OF THIS.

Because since 2020 it’s become obvious that politics has become a 3-d chess game, with human pieces FROM BOTH PARTIES being moved into their places.

So when Newsom says he won’t run for president - this is what he means.

The presidency will be given to him.

Folks, AMERICA is at DEFCON ONE!

Giving Newsom national power is an existential crisis!

WE MUST TAKE BACK THE WHITE HOUSE IN 2024, OR AMERICA IS LOST TO US.

I’m in the fight.

I pray that you will join me there.

God bless America 🇺🇸

Newsome is a WEF muppet.

BBS's avatar

I agree with you. This is Fox's contribution to DeSantis/Newsom push. A not so subliminal suggestion to the voters.

S.P.H.'s avatar

And I agree with you BBS. Now that the Murdock boys are taking control I expect Faux to lean even further left. I unplugged the TV 3 years ago, haven't missed it a bit.

Sunlover's avatar

During the debate, the most questions went to DeSantis. The other candidates had to basically butt in and talk over top of each other. It was very frustrating to watch. The moderator had very little control. We turned it off.

Leskunque Lepew's avatar

It has been taken over. Ask Bill Ghates.

Susan Banks's avatar

I don’t think that is what will happen. My opinion only.

GG's avatar

That's exactly why I like this site! What do you think will happen? I'm genuinely curious.

I just can't think of any other reason for two people, one who "isn't running" and the other who continues his downwards trajectory in the polls, to hold a much-hyped, nationally televised debate. I think it's good to debate these things publicly (it certainly beats being shouted down, or worse). I question the timing and the participants. What is the point of this non-presidential presidential debate? It seems very shadow-government-y.

FH's avatar

Exactly what my friend theorized last night.

LMWC's avatar

If Hannity is the moderator, nothing new will be learned as Hannity pontificates. How low you have gone Fox and apparently how little it takes to amuse many.

Donna in MO's avatar

Just occurred to me - what about RFK Jr. ? I don't watch TV news and frankly too tied up with local issues of late to pay a lot of attention. Is he going to be on the ballot in D primaries? Are there any polls out there? It would be really awesome to add him to the DeSantis Newsom event but I know, dreaming. I would not vote for him but I love how he brings up the medical corruption issue.

Michael Framson's avatar

I saw an email from his campaign that gave the impression he is entertaining an independent run, because of the shenanigans of the DNC to sabotage his campaign.

Susan Stephens's avatar

The DNC sabotaged Bernie way back.

They cheat in their own primaries; practice before the general election

Donna in MO's avatar

The 'politics is sport' part of me says bring it on! But the more pragmatic part of me says he will take votes from both sides. I campaigned for Ross Perot back in the day when I was more idealistic and naïve. I ended up helping Bill Clinton....

Yes that tweet was shared on here several times today. This was not the first time I had seen this, it went around online a few months ago as well, although that prediction had Kamala just getting a payoff to go away. Totally plausible, I keep saying I can't believe he is still in office, and the talking heads press covering for him drops my respect for them even lower, if that is possible. Too many like their paychecks over their integrity I guess.

Yup, something is going on here that is forcing them out, and I don't think it's the will of the people. Either they have outlived their usefulness to the oligarchs or they were going to be exposed of massive corruption (or other unspeakable acts) and made a deal to leave quietly to preempt it.

A superficial pushback.

No such thing as a side effect. Direct effects, all of them, just not the targeted/advertised effect. In the case of 💉I would argue quite intended. We didn't get that 100 mph verbal, small print disclaimer at the end of every "advertisement" for these products because the manufacturer wasn't doing the advertising. The captured media heads, government and medical community were the advertisers.

My theory is that this is the reason the Epstein "business" existed. The 5 Eyes intelligence agencies either created or enabled the Epstein "business" to manufacture dirt on leaders so that they can be controlled and removed at will. Notice how none of these people look happy to be leaving, none have given any notice (or been given notice), and yet none protest or go to the press to plead their case. Someone has something on them; and whatever it is, it's serious.

Raptor's avatar

I would say "gather". They needn't manufacture it for most.

RU's avatar

Manufacture might be too strong a word. I guess what I was trying to say was that they clearly let this guy go for decades. They allowed him to fly an airliner internationally and even buy property to be set up for these purposes. So, they had to have known about him for a long time...but did nothing. It's impossible they didn't know what he was doing. And it's impossible they didn't do anything about it b/c they couldn't or didn't think it was bad enough. They've arrested, tried, and imprisoned people for much lesser crimes. So, there must be a reason they let him thrive. It wouldn't surprise me if they "nudged" certain leaders in Epstein's direction. (FWIW, as an aside, it also likely means Trump wasn't involved in any compromising way, or they wouldn't need all this lawfare to try to get rid of him.)

Raptor's avatar

I would argue against the notion that they "LET" Epstein do those things. If you haven't already seen her being interviewed or read her books, Whitney Webb is worth spending time with. Here are a few good interviews:

She wrote 2 books about it (two volume). She also talks very wide rangingly about the financial systems, central banks, CBDC tokens...

Her website with all of her articles: https://unlimitedhangout.com/

Heterodox Introvert's avatar

Whitney Webb: Epstein was recruited and supported. Her two volume One Nation Under Blackmail, all citied with primary and secondary sources, is a rough read. That might be an empath experience though. The depth and breadth of corruption could even surpass what she uncovered.

The world we're presented with is a controlled illusion. The cracks are expanding to larger tears. The great ripping apart is nearing, where only the weak of mind, blind and completely brainwashed, will cling to the illusion.

I think it's what THEY (The Hierarchy Exploiting You) are doing with the children - have been doing since long, long before our time - that will be the last straw for any adult who sees. Epstein was their tool.

I dunno how it's going to play out. My guess is the force of humanity, the numbers, the collective outrage and commitment to saving the children is a big part of what will gut their operation. We are the many, THEY are the few. We are the sane, they are sick and deranged. This time, technology provides us with a reach the People have never had before. They fear us, thus all the bread and circuses. For thousands of years. It only takes some percentage (what, I don't know, but it's not 100%, not even close) to start the snowball.

Thanks for posting Whitney Webb links.

Sharon Beautiful Evening's avatar

It only took less than 25% of the citizens of the 13 Colonies to exert enough influence and backing to create the Revolutionary War. Do yourself a favor and listen to the Whitney Webb podcasts. You are on the right track, just up a few levels from where they are running their business.

It is not "we see him doing stuff and are looking the other way cuz he is us" THAT is a version of the OBC. It is "we will use this guy to get what we want, make him very powerful and attractive to certain people. He can use anything to lure the target in. " That is not a let/look the other way back slapping fun. It is purposed. Not purpo(Z) but with an "s" sound.

Nor any political figure, not even those we fancy as being 'ours'. For example, the Fox debate? What is that? It speaks of a great turning of the screw, a great orchestration behind the curtain ... and with invisible pulpiteering all over the lot.

The local level is very, very important. That is where irresistible expectations are created which the party elite HAVE TO DEAL WITH.

Donna in MO's avatar

Yes Faith is amazing, especially when you consider she never even attended a city council meeting before 2020 woke her up and activated her. I met with her several times during her campaign and filled her in on a lot of background docs and issues that she would likely be asked about at public forums. She was a sponge and very astute.

And yes, our local R committee meeting was last night. The State rep from my district got elected speaker and I call him Where's Waldo as it's hard to find him at any event in his own district. He did not get a warm reception to his establishment platitudes. But with a massive war chest, doubt anyone will take him on next year. He terms out in 2026. I do believe the Sound of Freedom won out as far as popularity--I hope it energizes many people to become involved in exposing and bringing to justice the throngs of powerful people behind human trafficking and child sex slave exploits.

Both were arguably worse than Dictator Dan, at least as far as jab mandates went. Two more Covid-era premiers have also resigned. The great economist Milton Friedman once noted, "Government has three primary functions. It should provide for military defense of the nation. It should enforce contracts between individuals. It should protect citizens from crimes against themselves or their property. When government-- in pursuit of good intentions tries to rearrange the economy, legislate morality, or help special interests, the costs come in inefficiency, lack of motivation, and loss of freedom. Government should be a referee, not an active player."

Check out his short (3 min) video "Only Government Creates Inflation" for more. The gist: only government can create inflation, because only government owns the printing press. Although we are to blame for expecting more services and stuff while paying little to nothing for it. In other words we incentivize our politicians to drive inflation...ouch.

RebeccaGrrrl's avatar

Thanks for this. I've honestly never thought hard about this except for military. Mr. Friedman added 'enforce justice' which he narrowed smartly to 'enforce contracts' and 'protect citizens from crimes against themselves or their property'. Sounds SO SIMPLE AND SMART. We need KISS back (keep it simple stupid) in our entire set of govt's (fed, state, local).

Fla Mom's avatar

The Declaration of Independence only has one reason to have governments at all - "to secure these rights."

RU's avatar

Our current situation - with government trampling on people, lording over them, having government secrets, arresting citizens for political reasons, etc. - is a complete inversion of what the Constitution and Declaration of Independence lay out as our intended government. We are 180-degrees off-course right now.

In reality, according to our founding documents, our government works for us. It is there only to secure the rights laid out in those documents: 1A, 2A, etc. (So, for example, it is actually the government's job to protect and defend our 2nd amendment rights; not to try to take them away.) And if it fails to do that, according to our own foundational documents, we have the right to overthrow and replace it.

Friedman would likely add government also has no money. Our government does not generate even one penny of wealth. It is a purely parasitic entity that only has what it takes from its people. (Thus, when it prints money and puts more money in circulation, it devalues every dollar already in circulation, and causes inflation.)

In other words, according to the laws governing the government itself, it has no power that we don't grant it, and it has no money that we don't give it. The reason we are in this mess right now is that the majority of people do not know these two things. They assume the government is their "boss" and has money to give them.

Roger Beal's avatar

The majority of people do not know these things, true. And the majority of people do not care to trouble themselves either to learn these things, nor to act to correct problems as they arise.

Humans, by nature, covet. That’s why there’s a commandment against it. It’s difficult to overcome--so much so that God recognized we need His help to do so. I’ve heard other says that government shouldn’t legislate morality and schools shouldn’t indoctrinated. But that’s impossible because someone’s standard of right and wrong and someone’s worldview must be adopted to govern and guide the people. So...whose standard will be adopted? That’s the debate our nation is having right now. The Bible answered it long ago. Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD. We have strayed so far from that. It’s no wonder we are falling apart.

So many people my mom’s age (80) are still traumatized by mentioning polio . But they can’t hear . It correlates to the pesticides in their upstate New York farming community. That vax was a miracle to them in their minds. Too many of them can’t research online or they might be aware of these crimes.

RunningLogic's avatar

My mom had a relatively mild case as a child (had to walk with crutches) and was very pro vaccine partly because of this 😢 Interesting about the pesticides—do you have any links to information on that?

You can buy the book Turtles All the Way Down -Vaccine Myth and Science on Amazon (by Mary Holland-there is another fictional book of the same title so make sure to get the right one). Have read the book Dissolving Illusions which basically describes what the polio vaccine really didn’t do. Of course, there’s so much more that is explained. I once visited a young girl who was in an “iron lung”. It is emblazoned on my memory. Penicillin was first used in the US in 1942 and was a huge contributor to saving lives so in 1955 when the polio vaccine was approved, I presume most people trusted it.

Deb B's avatar

Nickname is "For Profit Off-it" for a reason:-)

FedUpInOR's avatar

Paul Offit benefits directly from profits of the Rotavirus vaccine which he helped develop. He wants to protect vaccines from skepticism because he’s one of the major players driving the gravy train and doesn’t want to see it derailed. Rotavirus can cause dehydration and a child would need to be hospitalized if they get a very severe case. However a (this is acknowledged by the cdc) side effect of this vaccine is intussuception where the bowel folds in on itself which is a surgical complication and your child could need surgery due to a known side effect of taking this vaccine. So small risk of needing iv fluid with a bad case of rotavirus, versus surgical intervention due to taking the vaccine. Paul Offit is not on ‘our side,’ he wouldn’t be on the Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee if Pharma didn’t know he’d play ball.

TT's avatar

He’s total scum.

Fla Mom's avatar

Wasn't that with the original rotavirus vaccine? I thought that one was pulled from the market.

FedUpInOR's avatar

I don’t doubt they pulled a vaccine for unacceptable (read: the average public becoming aware and linking it to the vaccine) dangerous levels of intussuception, but they must consider 1 in 20,000 (and likely higher if that’s what they’re admitting) getting intussuception to be acceptable because that’s what’s acknowledged on the cdc website

Fla Mom's avatar

I'd love to see the risk-benefit analysis for both the original and the current vaccines, regarding it. I wonder how thoroughly parents are counseled about risk, she said sarcastically.

FedUpInOR's avatar

Your comment made me laugh.

Fla Mom's avatar

That is fascinating. This is the history that I remembered. What is it about that vaccine, no matter the exact vaccine product, that causes the intussusception, I wonder?

"In 1998, the first rotavirus vaccine, RotaShield, was licensed in the United States but a rare adverse event, intussusception, led to its withdrawal. Seven years passed before the next generation of vaccines became available, Rotarix (GSK) and Rotateq (Merck), and 11 years later, 2 additional vaccines from India, Rotavac (Bharat) and Rotasiil (Serum Institute), were recommended by World Health Organization for all children."

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34590142/

Peace's avatar

Would he lose his source of income if his vaccine were "morphed" to a mRNA vaccine? Maybe why he's willing to start "badmouthing" the mRNA jab?

FourWinds's avatar

So Offit jumped bandwagons when it was convenient. Uh huh. He knows the narrative is falling apart and just wants to be on the right side of history. But do not worry, I have a very long and detailed memory (unless it's where I put my keys) and I will not forget a single one of these scamdemic-pushers.

UFOs.... loud sigh! Just a way to waste more tax money. We're going to get screwed on that one (financially) just like we did on the Ukraine mess.... and where's the money for East Palestine? This Ohioan wants to know.

Jeff C's avatar

Offit is as corrupt as the others, we've been onto this guy for fifteen years. Offit is different though in that he's smart. He knows when to throw the skeptics a bone to appear reasonable and thoughtful, unlike a clown like Hotez who can't turn it off.

Offit received millions from the sale of his own vaccine for Rotavirus (Rotateq) and has been a reliable rubberstamp for every new vaccine as part of ACIP. He approved and pushed the original Rotashield vaccine that caused intussusception in infants (despite that fact rotavirus is almost always harmless). He repeatedly slandered the parents of ASD kids. He is in every way a huge part of the problem and a despicable person.

https://www.opendemocracy.net/en/opendemocracyuk/dr-paul-for-profit-offit-measles-and-bbc/

We conservatives have our own version of battered wife syndrome when we swoon whenever someone on the other side says something that seems to align with our beliefs (e.g. Bill Maher). We are so desperate to be validated by the other side that we can't help ourselves. Offit is sleaze, don't fall for a word this guy says.

Terrible to read about Michael McGrath's addition to the died suddenly list. Why though is the next of kin's first impulse these days to beg for money in response? Begging used to be considered shameful, now it's just another part of the grieving process apparently.

With all due respect, you dont know the financial situation of others. I am sure it is an extremely humbling experience and as such, it is blessed. 'But for the grace of God go I'.✌️🙏

Jeff C's avatar

You are right I don't know it. On the other hard, "you don't know their situation!!" is now used to excuse every form of societal degradation.

He hasn't even been buried yet and his daughter is begging for money. Really? Do you think her father would have wanted that? The first impulse is to be for money, it couldn't have waited a few weeks? They need the money that desperately now?

Angela, with all respect to you, this brand of "niceness" where no one is allowed to comment on the impropriety of other's actions is a big factor in society's destruction. The bible tells us to be kind, its doesn't say a word about being "nice". We are allowed to comment when people immediately belittle the memory of the dead by begging for money.

STH's avatar

I could be destitute and I still would never set up a GoFundMe for a loved ones death. That’s what insurance is for! It’s bizarre to me.

AngelaK's avatar

Funerals are expensive. One never knows what the financial situation is for another. I think that this type of funding is a charitable avenue for those who sometimes have no other recourse for financial help.

That is my opinion. You are entitled to yours.

Jeff C's avatar

Funerals can be expensive, just like weddings can be. They don't have to be. Churches don't charge for funerals and mortuaries do offer payment plans. This idea that she is required to beg for money immediately to hold a funeral is nonsense. Plus, she didn't even say that.

I have no idea what there situation is, I hope it's not bleak. My observation was a general one that people have lost their shame and immediately start begging for money when someone dies. This didn't happen a few decades ago and it's a bad sign for society.

You then responded to me with Hallmark-card level theology of "there but the grace of God go I" and implied it was somehow immoral of me to make a 100% true observation (i.e. it's tacky to beg for money when people die) and justified that by inventing a scenario where they can't pay for a funeral. Nonsense.

This won't happen to me because I have $1.5M in life insurance with my wife as beneficiary, along with long-term disability insurance. I have a sizable retirement account and significant home equity, with my wife as joint owner on both. We also have a six months emergency fund in the bank. We aren't rich, but have these because they are a priority for us. We don't take Mediterranean cruises or buy new BMW's. God's grace gave me common sense and a desire to provide for my family as my highest priority.

If I pass and my kids start begging for money I will have failed in my obligations as a husband and father. Both in providing for my wife and in teaching my kids self-respect and self-sufficiency. This idea that we aren't allowed to comment on other's impropriety and poor stewardship is absurd, and it's not biblical. Worst of all, it let's people off the hook with regards to irresponsible behavior.

RunningLogic's avatar

Agree that there needs to be a balance—showing compassion but not enabling.

Jeff C's avatar

Totally agree. Compassion would be friends and family (and perhaps even fans) *privately* approaching the family and asking if there is anything they can do to help. It could be monetary, funeral planning, or helping with family finances and what not. Frankly, this was the basis of Christian fraternity I remember growing up. My church (plug for Calvary Chapel which is great) still does this and it's a core part of our community.

Key distinction was that it was freely offered by others and no one felt entitled to it. My mom used to cook meals for other church families when a parent was in the hospital or something like that. I will never forget the surprised and sincere gratitude of those families.

What is troubling in this activity is that family members now beg strangers for money. This is a relatively new phenomena. At a minimum it's extremely unbecoming as it publicly implies the deceased did not properly provide for the family. More broadly, there's an air of entitlement that others pay someone else's debts.

But ARE funerals expensive? I thought churches did it for free.

And, as I asked elsewhere, doesn't the county have a duty to dispose of dead bodies?

With all due respect, it is not blessed. Her father is not even cold yet but she has her hand out. Take off your “holier than thou” crown before you tip over.

AngelaK's avatar

Wow. That is unkind!

I guess you or someone you love or know have ever experienced the reality of being broke for a while.

People turn to churches all the time in times of need, including such as having no money to bury their dead, and in some traditions cremation (cheaper) is not allowed. I give money to that church fund whenever I can.

My friend's best friend is currently dying of cancer. Her children died before her as did her husband years ago. She has no insurance. My friend is trying to figure out a way to help raise money to bury her. It happens all the time.

Cremation services cost about 2k here in Cali, so probably cheaper elsewhere. If one is truly destitute, doesn't the county have to dispose of the body? I'm not being disrespectful here, Angela, just truly curious. I mean, they don't just tip the body into the street.

And from I understand, churches don't charge for funeral services. . . Do they?

Otherwise, one could have a memorial service in a park.

AngelaK's avatar

My mother passed in January this year. Our tradition does not allow for cremation. We believe in the sanctity of the body. The burial plots are anywhere from 1500 to 3000. The funeral home, with no embalming, nor a fancy casket or any other frills, taking her body, preparing it, bringing it to the church and then to the cemetery cost almost 7k.

The church service, a ofcourse, costs nothing.

laura-ann Knox's avatar

But doesn't the county provide free burial services for the indigent?

I'm not in any way knocking your preference, just genuine curiosity.

In the olden days I believe it was called "potters fields". I mean, long before crowd sourcing, what did they do?

I am non UFO conforming. Do UFO's (aliens) have a thousand genders like mankind? Just wondering.

If you trusted Offit and Fauci and any other medical experts, otherwise known as bouncing clowns, or that dot thing we saw on TV when singing along with Mitch Miller, shame on you. I hope you learned your lesson, but if you are dead, maybe you learned something useful for the next life.

The debates? Good grief, gimme My Favorite Martian reruns or any rerun for that matter. More politicians or a change of stripe has never shown to be the answer for the woes of the country. It's because of useless politicians we have more woes than ever.

Is the “bomb, raze, and kill” strategy (Ukraine) just an alternative to the “directed energy and burn” strategy (Maui and CA) to create a “clean pallet” where the “haves” can create their New World Order societies? Maybe the Senators were there to lay the cornerstones for their future respective neighborhoods.

We can't go on like this.

Great round-up Jeff, thanks again. My favourite comment from the twitter feed regarding the U.S. tax payers' financial "investment" in Ukraine was, "I can now claim Ukraine as a dependant on my tax return"... Priceless and should be allowed. Cheers y'all.

I liked that one too!! 😆 Can we get a social security number for it? I mean, the illegals coming in can somehow get one so why not? 😛😑

Country singer Travis Tritt has provided us with an incredible statement of inspiration and encouragement. I put this on another stack the other day but as it is balm to the weary soul I would like to repost it here. It is wonderful. From his twitter feed of a couple of days ago:

"I was recently asked to do an interview with an @ajc entertainment journalist to talk about being a lifelong @Braves fan. I declined the interview because of how badly I was treated by Major League Baseball and the mainstream media when I sang our National Anthem in October of 2021 for a Braves playoff game. Because I was unvaccinated, I was treated like a pariah and a criminal by MLB and the MSM. I haven’t watched a MLB game since and I doubt that I ever will again without a formal apology from MLB. With so many reports of people being injured by the vaccines and boosters, I stand by my decision to refuse to take any of the jabs. It’s such a shame, because there was never a bigger Major League Baseball and @Braves fan than me. Nevertheless, I stand by my decision and I refuse to be bullied by any agenda that ultimately wants to reduce the population because of a “climate change” hoax."

In this case, Travis speaks for me too and, I imagine, most of us here. Thank you Travis and you too, eyes open, for posting it!

One of the most maddening aspects of “severe effects usually show up within the first few weeks/months” - aside from the fact that it’s only considered true because we don’t carry out long-term studies- is that for the first two weeks after cv vx, people are considered not vaccinated. So all those strokes, heart attacks, and covid cases in the first two weeks after a shot are never attributed to the latest shot. It’s actually kind of brilliant.

Gato Malo has done extensive coverage of this.

G/W/'s avatar

Bingo.

And after you get jabbed and have an adverse event, who cares?

Who do you tell? Do you go back to the drive through tent city where you got it? The Walgreens?

Literally, who will even bother to believe you?

Oh and if they did, where would they report it?

Surely, there’s intense oversight about this novel therapy?

An army of government cdc specialists like Dustin Hoffman peering intently into microscopes to be ready to sound the instant alarm!

Oh well, no but we have vaers- yep no fear, cdc is on the job.

But oh that ole vaers is a self reporting thing/ pshhaw you know any crack pot can go on online and fill one out. Can’t trust it.

But, but with trillions spent, we couldn’t have a better monitoring system?

Sure, we COULD have.

But that would just be silly and a waste of resources, y’all, be real.

RunningLogic's avatar

Exactly because they don’t want to know, and they definitely don’t want *us* to know!

My husband told me 99.9+% of all side effects happen within the first either hour or 24-hours (I think he said hour)....I was ill-prepared to counter that argument back when the vaxx first released, but instinctively knew that was wrong and I wasn’t taking it. Some “science” guy had to have been stating this because he wouldn’t have made it up himself (he would blindly believe it from someone with a scientist label though)

Jasmine's avatar

We don’t have to do long-term studies because we know that most side effects show up right away. How do we know that most side effects show up right away? Because there are no studies showing long-term harm.
