San Fran's democrats send a message to progressive pols; Trudeau is losing the country; truckers hold the line; scientists are called to account for playing politics with the virus; and more...
Happy Wednesday, C&C! It’s all unwinding, faster and faster, like a tightly coiled spring once it’s let go. In today’s roundup: San Fransisco’s school board is losing recalled members; Trudeau is losing his provinces and governors; truckers hold the line; Ontario’s governor is DONE; scientists who played politics with the Wuhan lab-leak are called to account; and the National Review calls out progressive mask lovers.
🗞 *THE C&C ARMY POST* 🗞
🪖 We now have a petition web site calling for Governor DeSantis to veto HB7021. It just takes a couple clicks to send an email: [Please Veto HB7021 (Codifies the Fauci Death Protocol), Gov DeSantis! - Take Action For Freedom](https://takeactionforfreedom.com/desantis-hb7021/). You know what to do.
🗞*COVID NEWS AND COMMENTARY* 🗞
🔥 In more horrible news for democrat political candidates in this election season, deep-blue San Francisco — one of the nation’s most liberal cities — has just recalled THREE school board members. According to election officials, San Francisco residents “overwhelmingly” voted yesterday to recall the three progressive school board members.
And just like that, all of a sudden, basic good government is a thing again. “The voters of this city have delivered a clear message that the school board must focus on the essentials of delivering a well-run school system above all else,” Mayor London Breed said in a statement after the vote. “San Francisco is a city that believes in the value of big ideas, but those ideas must be built on the foundation of a government that does the essentials well.” Breed, who will now appoint new interim school board members, acknowledged that parents “were fighting for what matters most — their children.”
The recall effort started in January 2021 — just over a year ago — after the school board voted to rename 44 schools honoring Abraham Lincoln, George Washington, and Senator Dianne Feinstein — public figures the obviously mentally-ill board members claimed were linked to racism and sexism. Once the recall effort got underway, the board dropped the obnoxious plans.
But parents weren’t satisfied. “The city of San Francisco has risen up and said this is not acceptable to put our kids last,” said Siva Raj, a parent who helped launch the recall effort. “Talk is not going to educate our children, it’s action. It’s not about symbolic action, it’s not about changing the name on a school, it is about helping kids inside the school building read and learn math.”
In a story about the recall, Fox News described the recall as a “clear message.” It’s a message all right. Not just to the San Francisco school board, either. It’s a message to every democrat politician in this country. It’s a message of warning. It’s a clear message that DEMOCRAT VOTERS have had it; they are fed up; they aren’t going to take it anymore.
If progressives can lose this badly in San Francisco, just imagine how they’re going to do in the heartlands. And they only have a few months to turn it around. Ask yourself this question: if just 10% of democrats flip because of total frustration with grotesque social experiments and lethiferous woke policies, what happens? I’ll tell you what happens: a red landslide.
You know what would totally cement that outcome? If democrats push Covid vaccines on kids. You think parents hated masks on their kids? Try untested newfangled high-tech vaccine “products.” Bring it.
🚛 Newsmax interviewed truckers about how they felt about Trudeau’s calamitous invocation of the Emergencies Act on Monday. Hint: it only made them angrier.
Erik Mueller, a truck driver who quit his job to join the blockade in Ottawa, called the emergency measures insane. “We are not backing off,” he said. “We have too much to lose.”
Wayne Narvey said he took a leap of faith a week ago and drove his 30-year-old motor home from News Brunswick through a snowstorm to get to the capital. “They can take our bank accounts, they can freeze our assets, they can take the insurance off our vehicles,” he said. “They can play all the games they want. We’re not leaving.”
Canada’s astonishing promotion to the world stage’s new headquarters of the resistance to medical mandates minted a stunning reversal of opinion — not least my own — about Canadian spinelessness. God Bless those Canadians! The truckers along with every Canadian supporting them. I could hug every single one of them.
Hug a trucker!
🔥 You can’t really look at the situation and draw any conclusion other than that Canada’s shiftless and incompetent Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is losing, badly.
Who knows what that man is thinking? He must have thought invoking the Emergencies Act two days ago would help somehow, teach those truckers a lesson, defuse the conflict.
It’s not helping, teaching, or defusing.
So far, five of Canada’s eleven provinces — their states — have rejected the Emergencies Act, which appears to require ratification in each province. Canada’s provinces have “premiers,” which are like our governors; they are the top political executive for each province.
Saskatchewan’s Premier Scott Moe said the Emergencies Act isn’t needed in that province. “Saskatchewan does not support the Trudeau government invoking the Emergencies Act,” Moe tweeted Monday. The premiers of Alberta and Manitoba have also said the emergency powers are not needed in their provinces. Quebec Premier François Legault has also come out against the Act being applied in his province.
So much for unity. He’s losing the states. Trudeau is a nincompoop.
🔥 It gets worse! Ottawa’s first black Police Chief resigned yesterday, amid accusations of inaction against the trucker protests that have now paralyzed Canada’s capital for over two weeks. Just last week, Chief Sloly said that he had “absolutely [no]” plans to resign as police chief, telling reporters that he “came here to do a job.” ABSOLUTELY no plans.
“I came here to do a job and I’m going to get that job done all the way through,” Sloly told CTV News last week. “Absolutely committed, have a great team here, great officers, we’ve got great partners in the city. We’re going to get this done.” There’s that word again. He was ABSOLUTELY committed. A week ago.
How times change.
Late Monday, after Trudeau invoked emergency powers, Public Safety Minister Marco Mendicino called for the police to use the Emergencies Act’s broad authority to crack down on blockades and start towing trucks. “We have given new powers to police, and we need them to do the job now,” he said. It’s always the “safety ministers,” isn’t it?
Twenty-four hours later, already under the gun for failing to stop the honking, Sloly resigned. Weird, huh?
Tell me this: what is going RIGHT for Trudeau?
🔥 And then it got even worse for the Prime Minister, if that’s possible. Ontario is one of Canada’s thirteen provinces; it is the most populous province, with 38.3% of the country’s population, and it’s the province where the capital city of Ottawa lies.
Yesterday, Ontario’s governor (premier) Doug Ford unloaded after a reporter asked him about the Emergencies Act, with a follow-up question about Canada’s vaxpass. I’m going to repeat Ford’s answer verbatim, it was that remarkable. Remember — this is the same governor of the state that includes the trucker-clogged capital city and nearly half of the country’s population.
First — I am not making this up — he said to lay off the unvaccinated, because it makes no difference to infections:
You can go shopping … [and] you don’t know if the person beside you has the shot or not. But we also know that it doesn’t matter if you have one shot or ten shots. You can catch Covid. See, the Prime Minister has triple shots; I know hundreds of people with three shots that caught Covid. We just have to be careful, always make sure we wash our hands, and move forward.
But it’s not just infections. He said it’s really about democracy and freedom and liberty:
And every single person including myself knows people that’re unvaccinated. Sure, there’s the rabble rousers. And then there’s just hard working people that just don’t believe in it. And that’s THEIR CHOICE. This is about — again — a democracy and freedoms and liberties. I hate, as a government, telling anyone what to do.
Why? The governor said it’s about time we got on with our lives, and along the way, he cursed the masks:
We can’t stay in this position forever. We’ve got to learn to live with this and get on with our lives. I bet if I asked every single person in this room do you want these damn masks or do you want them off — they want ‘em off. They want to get back to normal. They want to be able to go out to dinner with their families.
Now, the Prime Minister, whose government sits in Ford’s state, isn’t ready to give in to the truckers, not yet. But read Ford’s next comment and tell me whether you think the GOVERNOR is ready to give in and move on:
We just got to get moving forward and get out of this and protect the jobs. You know, I think a lot of people — probably yourself too — everyone’s done with this. Like, we are DONE with it. Let’s start moving on, and cautiously. We’ve followed the rules. All of us. 90% of us. For over two years. The world’s done with it. So let’s just move forward.
Governor Ford was talking to a reporter, answering his question, but I think he was really talking to the Prime Minister. You can sense his palpable frustration. He seems to be asking Trudeau, just what, exactly, are we waiting for?
😷 Old-school conservative magazine National Review — often accused of “Never Trumpism” — published an article Monday that rips the mask off, well, mask lovers’ motives. There are two remarkable things about the article: first, it just ASSUMES as an established fact that masks don’t “work,” and second, it is now apparently okay to rip into mask wearers. That would’ve gotten someone fired and deplatformed about ten minutes ago.
The article is headlined, “Why Progressives Can’t Quit Their Masks.” The web headline is “Progressives See Masks as Cultural Identity, Not Science.” Uh oh.
NR first considers how much trouble the Biden Administration is having getting progressives to agree to give up the masks — because it feels like a POLITICAL defeat to them:
And that is what is making unmasking — and a more general return to normal — so difficult for so many of our progressive friends: It has become a cultural and social issue, and a quasi-religious one at that. For a certain kind of progressive, giving up masking feels like giving in. It doesn’t feel to them like the epidemic has been beaten — it feels to them like they have been beaten, and their cultural enemies (Joe Rogan, and that estranged uncle who is angry on Facebook) have won.
And if that weren’t bad enough, NR then waded into the whole “masks as religion” debate:
What they are running up against — and what Joe Biden is running up against among his own base — is a species of religious fanaticism. Like the declarations of progressives who once swore off ‘Trump vaccines,’ it is a matter of identity, not a matter of policy, much less one of science.
Note also NR’s assumption that JOE BIDEN wants to stop the masks. It’s surprising because Biden has never said that, not publicly. He’s still supporting the CDC’s official mask guidance. But NR just took it for granted that Biden is behind the push to unmask — as the rest of us are doing too, because the evidence is overwhelming.
The article’s final line was my favorite, after I’ve spent two years trying to push back against a relentless barrage of bad news:
The news on Covid is generally good these days. And I cannot remember another time in which generally good news has caused so much angst and misery.
Some people seem to be allergic to good news.
🔥 It’s beginning. In the House Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis, Senators Steve Scalise and Jim Jordan are steadily pursuing answers and accountability, inch by difficult inch. Yesterday, the Subcommittee sent letters seeking sworn testimony from seven scientists involved in the Wuhan lab-leak coverup.
These folks are scientists who initially emailed Fauci and the NIH in early 2020, alarmed that the virus seemed to be engineered and probably leaked from the Wuhan lab. But after a February 2020 conference call with Fauci, they did a 48-hour about-face and started publicly promoting the “natural origins” theory instead.
The Subcommitee’s press release on the requests says the scientists appear to have been trying to protect CHINA, not science:
Alarmingly, it appears that the decision to suppress the lab-leak hypothesis was rooted in political calculations rather than scientific principles. NIH documents show that scientists on the February 1, 2020, teleconference pushed the natural evolution theory because they believed the lab-leak hypothesis could cause China too much scrutiny.
Having reviewed similar letters from the House’s January 6th Committee, I can tell you that people who get these letters are, let’s say, uncomfortable. There aren’t a lot of good options. So we’ll see if the scientists talk or take the Fifth. Get your popcorn ready!
Have a wonderful Wednesday, and I’ll see you back here tomorrow for more.
