Chelsea Manning, a military intelligence analyst, gave Assange military reports (that Assange exposed on his WikiLeaks website) that disclose tens of thousands of activity reports about the war in Afghanistan, hundreds of thousands of reports about the war in Iraq, hundreds of thousands of State Department cables and assessment briefs of detainees at the U.S. detention camp at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba.

Manning was sentenced to 35 years in a military prison, but Obama commuted her (his) sentence in the final days of his presidency in 2017. Obama didn’t lift a finger to help Assange (as far as I know, but Manning gets a pass.

Only because Bradley saw that if he pretended to be trans (what did he know about the Obama's), his sentence would be lighter. Too me, Bradley should be rotting in prison. If the information they wanted to use to hang Assange was so important and secret, it should've been doubly important and secret to punish the guy who stole it.

Just FYI I do not participate in the delusions of mentally ill people.

I’m on the fence here. I believe in law and order but I think Assange and Edward Snowden were heroes for exposing the corruption infesting our intelligence communities. We have over one billion classified documents that need to come to light. A government that operates in secret is not working for you. Is it national security to classify Bidens interview as top secret? There are huge parts of our government that are evil and corrupt and the only way to expose this is to find out what they are doing. Florida used to have a law- Government in the sunshine- that was supposed to keep everything above board by mandating what could and could not take place behind closed doors. I’m not sure what happened to it.....

La Ecrivain, your comment is very interesting, and I'm not sure I can even interpret it entirely, since you seem to have technical knowledge and a good memory for the details of what Snowden did. Are you saying that the laws allow the NSA to snoop on our comms, and should do so, so they can practice telling the difference between 'friendly' and 'hostile' extremists? What about when irate parents are called domestic terrorists, because their daughters are forced to be naked around males pretending to be females, and even sexually assaulted by them? When people whose backgrounds include military service and Christianity, and who are white, are considered higher up on the threat list? When do we citizens get to say how much of our privacy, a right to which predates government and is not a gift of government, we must give up 'for the common good?'

I agree, Manning should have been punished severely for stealing and giving the stolen military reports to someone to publish, which is worse than publishing what was received, IMO. (My LIKE button is non-operational, so I could not like your post.)

Don’t get me wrong. I am GLAD those were exposed. I’m just pointing out that Manning broke military law, so “he” is the one that should have been punished, not Julian Assange, according to “their” military rules. Assange is not even an American yet they had blood lust after him. We don’t punish those that publish received information as noted by all the leaked documents our own press publishes.

And I’m happy Assange is finally able to go free after being persecuted for many many years. And you don’t know how I feel about trans people so don’t make assumptions.

I think Manning was deeply disturbed before, this wasn't a courtroom transition after sentencing. Still had clearance to access all that stuff though, and it was already clear during Mannings time in the military that there were mental issues. And it really only aided the enemy if you consider the people of the USA the enemy.

35 years for uncovering crimes, no punishment for the criminals.
