What's up with Maine anyway? Is it too close to Canada? Has it become an insane asylum?

Lori's avatar

Answer: Most definitely YES.

Laura Kasner's avatar

Someone out there has a wicked sense of humor. 😂😂😂

Richard schoenenberger's avatar

Actually, a reasonable explanation .

Maha's avatar

Well, yes, Dave. That occurred when they elected all those Democrats. Wasn't Maine a conservative bastion where people said "rud" for road? Perhaps the short summers led to the mental issues Washington State contends with.

Casey Jones's avatar

More likely an invasion by Bahstonians?

Dave, I think the Griftocrats are so close to the edge of the United States of America that they're afraid they'll fall off the face of sanity.

Just sayin'.

Dave, I agree. Talk about wackos - don’t forget that Tucker lives there part of the year also. Maybe the state has been overtaken by the same “demons” that supposedly attacked him in the middle of the night. Just sayin’. Too bad as it’s a beautiful state.

Free in Florida, you have a low and unpleasant character. No doubt about that. And as I told you before, you are certainly not one of the thinkers at C&C Your talents are in snitching, and in seeing bots everywhere. Anyone who fails to agree with you is a bot, apparently. Convenient distraction.

Too funny! You're a type. Sometimes they think they see bots. Sometimes they think they see spies from the 77th Brigade. And some of them think they see flying saucers. According to the fashion of the day.

Anecdotally, influence from Boston-area transplants and retirees. Small population, so it doesn't take a lot of in-migration to change it significantly. (See also Vermont.)

Vermont went crackers back in the 1970s when many cults located there. Now you see the elderly cultists who never escaped wondering around in a daze in places such as Saint Johnsbury.

A.'s avatar

As for Canada, it was leftwing American draft dodgers in the 70s heading mostly to either British Columbia or Toronto that produced a lot of the WOKE-folk attitudes in later eras. Then American or CCP Chinese cults took over the Canadian Maritimes and spread it there. Canadians were always conservative by nature. Leftwimg-ism had to be introduced.

"So the local DNC’s party bosses —currently panicking because Susan Collins is sitting on $11 million in campaign cash while the Democratic candidates are checking the sofa cushions for loose change— will get to pick the winner."

This is classic humor for candidates!

I would have picked the departing candidate, for their honesty.

But that leaves the SOS candidate who was also honest(ly) trapped on a canoe.

Nice touch on the (checking my notes)

squirrel distraction.

She'll take it because she's the best looking, is honest, and... She's the best looking. Because... People are shallow.

Collins may have a fundraising problem as it looks like a walk in the park. She'll be expected to point up money for other candidates in tighter races.

Maybe bring in the kitten, for it's battle hardened past. And surviving.

Those were astounding, shocking comments. Did her and the other deeply ill, mentally retarded dude acting as the ugliest fake "woman" I've ever had to lay eyes on, give you any indication that the "leaders" of the maine democrat party do not want a leader, they want someone they will absolutely control? Like brain dead brandon cabbage and communist kamala word salad?

And what's with Portland? Portland Maine, Portland Oregon? What water are these people drinking, what polluted air are they breathing, what pot are they smoking that leaves these people so deranged and unstable, yet thinking they are viable humans - they are not!

BUT - These people have no ethics and they have no morale foundation to guide their decisions and actions. They will steal votes to steal an election, unless we stop them.

By the way, did everyone see where schumer pulled a swalwell, ripping a fart in the Senate while lying (actually, it sounded pretty wet, Im thinking he may actually have brandoned in his pants.) Maybe that's what they are breathing?

Free in Florida's avatar

Casey, my vote’s with you. You’re thinking of “Admiral Rachel” Levine. The first time I saw this guy/woman in a dress in a short clip on TV (when he was still in a political health position I believe in PA), I remarked to my husband, “I feel So Sorry for that woman. She’s the ugliest woman I’ve ever seen and I don’t think she can do much about it.” This was very early on before the trans stuff was so front and center. It’s a mental illness, for sure.

Dan (100% All in MAGA)'s avatar

A mental illness which 30% of people living in this country think is perfectly okay to force on the rest of us as normal. Its abysmal. Honestly, I just think those who put them forth know they are deeply ill, and it is just another part of their plan to destroy the country.

Sorry, but I refuse to conjure another image of levine to save myself the projectile vomiting which will come with it.

Free in Florida's avatar

I think you’re right about the 30%. I had a graduate class in colonial history and the prof said that about 30% of the population during the Revolution were patriots, 30% were Royalists and the other 30% basically blew in the wind to see how it would go.

I’ve been wondering if the Royalist 30% - having dispersed to Canada, the UK or remained here - aren’t ancestors of these groups. Could be. I know the patriot group are ones who are MAGA and who read columns like Jeff’s and we don’t do or fall for stupid (at least most of the time.)

rolandttg's avatar

I can identify with that. We were at the W&M homecoming parade ~2003 or 4. Saw some seriously ugly woman on a float who turned out to be the homecoming queen. I did not realize it was a dude until I watched O Reilly on Monday night and he had footage of it and discussed it. . I was so proud. Our alma mater featured on the top national prime time show.

Free in Florida's avatar

Roland, I can only imagine how proud you must have been! 🤪 It really is “The Emperor has no clothes.” Everyone knows it’s insane but until lately, way too few of us were brave enough to say it.

Dan (100% All in MAGA)'s avatar

Casey! Did you have to remind me of that abomination of humanity? I'm not sure which is worse, perhaps they are equally disgusting? And not just because of their look but because of their deep mental illness? Which we are supposed to accept as completely normal, no problem here? NEVER, not on my watch.

Casey Jones's avatar

Granted the competition is stiff.

RunningLogic's avatar

Well more like limp rather than stiff in their case though 😑

Dan (100% All in MAGA)'s avatar

We have one running for our congressional seat, a deeply ill "huMAN" who thinks its a woman.

The real takeaway is that these people are not going to go away without a big fight, they intend to force their illness down our throats (yikes that is not a good mental image). The democrat party understands well, the destruction they are reeking by putting these lunatics in front of us.

KCwoofie's avatar

What do these persons see when they look in the mirror?

Dan (100% All in MAGA)'s avatar

I don’t want to know, KC. What matters is that they need therapy to overcome an illness. Why is it that there is a treatment for virtually every malady known to man/woman but the mental illness of the LGBTQXYZ crowd is normalized instead of treated? We really shouldn’t be part of normalizing it yet many look the other way instead of saying NO!

I always enjoy your scriptural excerpts, Janice, and this one seems particularly apropos. But I'm curious, is it more in reference to today's Democrat Party or to Magnolia (and perhaps tuxedo cats in general)? I grew up a staunch Democrat, even attended the 1964 Convention (and saw Bobby Kennedy stop his ride and literally get up onto the roof of the car to give an impromptu speech and shake hands), so I take no pleasure in their confusion today about who they are and what they stand for (just mostly, against)! And as for Tuxedo Cats, in our not-inconsiderable experience, they are simply the sweetest, most gentle and mellow felines for which we have ever had the pleasure of providing for over many, many years! And this is not to denigrate the other strays we’ve had and that I continue to care for, be they dilute calicos, siamese, rag dolls, egyptian maus, maine coons, norwegian forrest cats, and even a russian blue! And, thanks again for today's quote!

Clarity Seeker's avatar

Has anyone ever written a comprehensive article or report that lays out how much cash or cash equivalent a non US citizen is entitled to receive every month or year? Food stamps amount, rent subsidies, medical insurance premiums or other medical reimbursements paid , all other amounts of sm cash received or fees etc waived. The foregoing does not of course include things like costs incurred by schools, hospitals etc that hopefully are paid by states and not reimbursed by the fed govt.

Similarly, any analysis of how much employers save by paying lower wages with govt making up the difference ( essentially the rest of us are subsidizing those employers)

The above data would help make the case why the failure to.deport even non criminals costs the average us citizen and makes their lives less affordable, an argument that would appeal to many and put real context into the deportation arguments that today center on ICE activities

John Galt?'s avatar

Perhaps, but a report like this would also need to calculate the unseen costs, such as the demand for jobs, cars, housing, groceries, medical care, and so on. The law of supply and demand states that prices rise when demand outstrips supply, and fall when supply exceeds demand, until the market reaches equilibrium. This is an economic distortion that clever people have learned to monetize.

Clarity Seeker's avatar

Without a doubt. I am more focused on the average American seeing how much cash someone here illegally gets every year as that is a nice fat number all can best understand. If properly assembled and communicated it would sway people to.go vote and to vote for those who truly oppose open borders because of the costs to we the people.

RunningLogic's avatar

What galls me to no end is that in the 90s, someone I know who married a non US citizen at the time actually had to sign a document stating that neither the person nor the spouse (remembering that one of them was an actual American citizen) would ask for any government support. I think it was for a certain amount of time, like 20 years or something but can’t recall exactly. So these people, one a citizen and one a legal immigrant, had to promise not to get government help at that time. But now, no problem, ILLEGAL immigrants get free or in state tuition at college, food stamps, housing assistance, medical care, all kinds of help and people just shrug their shoulders about it 😡😡😡

Susie & Security's avatar

RL, it was actually Bill Clinton who signed a law to limit federal benefits to illegal immigrants (1996, Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996 (PRWORA), eliminating eligibility for SNAP, Medicaid, federal housing assistance, most unemployment benefits, cash welfare, social security, etc.

Before that, there were no laws governing immigrant eligibility for public benefits. Since then, states have expanded some of their benefits, and eligibility categories have been refined.

From ChatGPT:

In 2025, the administration announced that several agencies would rescind Clinton-era interpretations and apply PRWORA more broadly to additional federally funded programs, arguing this better reflected Congress’s original intent.

Bottom line: Congress has not broadly expanded federal benefit eligibility for illegal immigrants since 1996.

RunningLogic's avatar

Yes I know, but somehow Democrats ignore that 🙄

Susie & Security's avatar

What I find astounding is how many lawmakers we have who don’t know the law.

Copernicus's avatar

And just think how many non-working American citizens also collect those benefits, for decades.

There definitely is a place for support when needed. It ought not become a lifestyle.

Clarity Seeker's avatar

And the national debt keeps growing.

Richard Whitney's avatar

The national debt skyrocketed after the crash of 2008, when Obama and Congress decided to put Wall Street gambling onto the public debt.

Since then, it has gone astronomical. We are literally comping Wall Street gamblers, and putting the debt on our children.

And then they have the NERVE to brag about how high the Dow is.

Well, of course it is. We have given them hundreds of billions to play with.

Mrs. RW

Susie & Security's avatar

Clarity, see above. A reasonable estimate is $8,800/yr for ~14 million undocumented and/or unauthorized immigrants.

Susie & Security's avatar

Based on the best estimates I could find, there isn’t a single authoritative figure because eligibility, household composition, and state programs vary.

However, a reasonable estimate from published analyses is about $8,800 per undocumented immigrant per year in net taxpayer cost. Using an estimated 14 million undocumented immigrants, that works out to roughly $123 billion per year.

That’s an estimate—not a precise government figure.

Mayor's avatar

I, too, would like to see a report on how much it is costing US taxpayers to support illegal immigrants. At a local level, it is easy to see how much they take from food banks, housing, hospital, schools, and even legal aid service providers. Examples: They use the emergency department at the hospital as a primary care because they won’t be turned away if they can’t pay. A teacher I know who works in a rural county said they have students who speak 10 different languages other than English or Spanish. The staff has to use Google translate to communicate with those students. Think about how much effort is put into accommodating those few students to the detriment of the citizen students.

RunningLogic's avatar

Yes and they require free interpretation services at hospitals and in the courts. All of that costs the taxpayers money.

Janice Waddell's avatar

My daughter is a kindergarten teacher and has had to do the same when she’s had four different foreign language kids in her classroom! Kids catch on pretty quickly, it the parents don’t. Google Translate has been her godsend!

Susie & Security's avatar

Mayor, see above. A ChatGPT analysis from legit agency data provides an estimate of roughly $123 billion per year. Ball park.

Maggie Think of Me's avatar

And, that was based on 15 million.... It is probably > 30 million, as I believe a Harvard study suggested years before the onslaught happened during Obummer and Bidumbs evil reign. We may have as many as give or take 50 million illegals by now.

From my youth, there was a story that Khruschev was left 3 letters from Stalin "to be opened only in times of dire crisis." When Hungary rose in revolt, he opened the first: "Blame me!" which he promptly did, and survived. Later during the U-2 Incident, he opened the second which redd "Blame the USA!" He did, and again lived on. Embroiled in the Cuban missile crisis he'd instigated, he opened the third, but it only said, "Prepare three letters..."
