This was the case where he supposedly "broke the law" by talking to foreign governments before trump was inaugurated, or possibly because he "lied to the FBI" about what had happened - and his previous lawyers convinced him to plead guilty, then he hired Powell instead and she had to fight the court to let him withdraw his guilty plea because the government had withheld evidence - and then the Trump DOJ moved to dismiss the case (because there was no case) and the judge tried to appoint his own special prosecutor to replace the DOJ if they wouldn't keep prosecuting it, and in the end Trump just pardoned him before he left office. It was a mess.
