Just ramping up here in St. Augustine, but not even remotely close to what happened in the Ft. Myers area. Still have power, which amazes me considering the 80 ft pine trees right at our back door making various freight train sounds. It's a little unnerving, but when I consider the widespread devastation of my fellow human beings to the south and west, I have NOTHING to complain about. At least I don't have to worry about not being passed over by emergency services because of my un-poked status. As a side note, this morning my dog's outside business was accomplished in record time.....except for #2. Gotta keep my eye on him.π
God Bless you for taking the time to write this - excellent!
This morning I am still anxiously waiting to hear from my 79 year old sister who braved the storm by herself in Ft Meyers. All I've heard so far is that she's "ok". What a horrible, day yesterday was, and it's not over yet. But we know that our loved ones and Florida will survive...and continue to inspire us all with that strong, independent Spirit!
Iβm a 7th Gen Floridian. In the β80s I was at SeaCamp when David came. We prepared the camp (burying all the coconuts that would become cannon balls) and were evacuated by buses to the Miami Airport Hotel. Two raucous days followed of 180 teenagers locked into a hotel that was part of the airport, then back to camp for cleanup. The year of Charlie there were 2 others that hit my family in the Space Coast. My poor grandmother got super stressed so she came to NC to stay with us for a month. My family in Naples are 2 of 3 flooded out now. Of course they all stayed. And yes, they will rebuild and keep going. As we did in NC after Florence and then Dorian in β18 and β19. And we wonβt be screaming climate change, I can assure you.
ππ»ππ»ππ»Prayers for all affected in Florida. Love my free state and its spirit, this is a great post today. π God bless Florida! P.S. my husband and I like to call it the country of Florida π€£π€£π
Excellent as always. I love your figurative language. It is so well written. You truly paint your pictures with words. I feel a deep connection to the Floridian spirit of defiance, self reliance and love for Nature. Presently, we only have 15 acres in Santa Rosa county and floor plans. But we are coming. Floridians are our people!!! Florida is our state!! And for all of you, I am praying. ππ»π
Can we do a CnC donation to those who have lost so much in this storm? I think itβs very important to support them but also to show evil cabal who Americans really are. We love and support each other...even in these tough times! ESP this crowd at CnC. Thx!!
Yes, we as honorary Floridians understand our fates depend on interdependence as Americans and as citizens of this world. We are going to need every micrometer of the spirit we all have together to withstand these times. We will do it because it is necessary.
βThey let citizens decide for themselves. Even if we refused to leave, the state government will come help us out. You might agree with that policy or not, but the state of Florida respects our freedom, and doesnβt substitute its judgment for ours.β Praying for you all, natives and new arrivals alike. ππ
Prayers to all in Florida, even the unvaccinated. π
Superb commentary. As a life long Floridian I applaud and appreciate your sentiments. We are hardy, competent freedom lovers.
Thank you for telling your C&C family!
Prayers for all of Florida continue today.
βThe turnpike was so congested with evacuees it took 16 hours to drive the five hours home.β Can you imagine if all those vehicles were electric?

So glad you and yours are ok. So very sorry for the terror and grief so many are suffering.
May these eternally triumphant and comforting words never become trite from flippant use:
The Lord is my shepherd,
I shall not want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside quiet waters.
He restores my soul;
He guides me in the paths of righteousness
For His nameβs sake.
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I fear no evil, for You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
You have anointed my head with oil;
My cup overflows.
Surely goodness and lovingkindness will follow me all the days of my life,
And I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

I heard something on NPR to the tune of the FedGov is coming to save you. Donβt let them in.
Proud Pensacolian here- I still vividly remember Hurricane Ivan that decimated our area but we all came together and rebuilt. I love my home state!
