Jeff, just to let you know, the CHD chapter president in Oregon gave you a shout out to a room of about 200 folks at a meeting last weekend. She mentioned you in the context of folks who may not have planned on focusing on this genocide, but found themselves compelled to fight. So, thanks again for coming to the arena, and have a great 'large flightless bird day'!

Amen ~ but what makes you think they are flightless? I love watching them go from the ground into the trees, definitely something I cannot do, lol.

Ah, a bit of flight, but more of a runner than a flyer.....makes me think of this TV quote, 'As God is my witness, I thought turkeys could fly.'...(WKRP in Cincinatti, when they dropped turkeys from a helicopter)

Ah yes, WKRP ... back when sitcoms were funny and not the teensiest bit woke.

Ingrid... probably before your time... WKRP Cincinnati was a tv show...the station did a marketing stunt promotion dropping live turkeys out of a helicopter over the Pinedale shopping center circa 1978... no animal cruelty... all audio.... https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=BGFtV6-ALoQ&feature=youtu.be

oh lol ! thanks fo r the update ! I grew up in Europe and wondered if you ever had really good TV shows, like we had when I was a child. So you did ! What happened to these really funny harmless shows? they don't make them like this anymore, I might even think of buying a TV !

I wish I knew...all gone. I wouldn't buy a tv today. Unless you can use it to stream right off the internet....or use it for a computer screen...

Thanks for the link. I played it this morning. Such found memories. I have some heritage turkeys. The hens do a better job of flying, but they only fly to get from one pasture to the other(or my dog training area) or to get up to evening roosting spots on top of fences or the sheep's shelter roof. They don't fly like geese do.

Do you have a Narragansett one? I think they are very handsome...used to be popular in the 1800's....I once saw some Golden Pheasants I think they are called ...first and only, like the Narragansett turkey...so many heritage breeds being brought back by people like yourself, thank you.

I have bourbon red turkeys. The Narragansett are very pretty.

BLESS U for looking it up...funny, the one liners you remember...sometimes it takes me years to appreciate a certain scene, a good line....lucky me...best Maureen ODH

I bet the cloned domestic white turkeys are flightless, having been bred for huge breasts, weak muscles, and nearly absent tendons. The wild ones fly to get over fences, into and out of tree branches, and to escape predators.
