I had cancer in 2008 and received care from a Duke oncologist, who was at that time head of the OB-GYN cancer department. He was such a compassionate doctor! He has since moved on and I was shocked in 2021 to see a video of him urging people, even pregnant women, to get the jab. My husband had cataract surgery today. I was the driver. We didn’t wear masks in though we were told beforehand we would need them. We were screened with the covid questions I thought they quit doing over a year ago. Temp check, really? We were handed masks. My husband and I both wore ours under our noses, mine barely covering my mouth. The receptionists doing all the paperwork were very pleasant, one even had her paper mask below her nose also. They would pull them down to ask certain questions. The nurse prepping my husband in pre op had his mask under his chin and would occasionally remember to pull it up. The anesthesiologist had her surgical mask undone so we could see her whole face as she went over medications. They took husband’s mask off as soon as they got him on the gurney to start prepping. All in all I concluded this is all CDC guidance which they know is stupid, and they do it with a wink and a nod. We are all playacting in the world’s biggest virtue signal.
The problem is these people are just following written orders. They need the job. People need to have their surgeries and covid psychosis is real in too many, just look in any blue state in the north, in any store, masks everywhere again.

I had cancer in 2008 and received care from a Duke oncologist, who was at that time head of the OB-GYN cancer department. He was such a compassionate doctor! He has since moved on and I was shocked in 2021 to see a video of him urging people, even pregnant women, to get the jab. Our former primary care doctors are affiliated with Duke, but I will not go to them again. I have found a doctor who is not affiliated with a large hospital system. I'm not avoiding just Duke Hospital, but EVERY hospital. I'm praying I don't need hospital care.

I’ve seen many good comments on this topic, eloquently pointing out that prayer in any public setting has been derided, vilified and spat upon for a good many years. But suddenly under these tragic circumstances, it’s the right thing to do - the only thing to do! Now we can all join hands and bow our heads….for a little while. As a Christian I should probably just be happy that people are praying and hope that more turn to God, but the uglier side of my nature can’t forget that they’ve turned their back to God for a long time. I’m thankful that God is more forgiving than I, and He can distinguish between hypocrisy and sincerity.

My husband had cataract surgery today. I was the driver. We didn’t wear masks in though we were told beforehand we would need them. We were screened with the covid questions I thought they quit doing over a year ago. Temp check, really? We were handed masks. My husband and I both wore ours under our noses, mine barely covering my mouth. The receptionists doing all the paperwork were very pleasant, one even had her paper mask below her nose also. They would pull them down to ask certain questions. The nurse prepping my husband in pre op had his mask under his chin and would occasionally remember to pull it up. The anesthesiologist had her surgical mask undone so we could see her whole face as she went over medications. They took husband’s mask off as soon as they got him on the gurney to start prepping. All in all I concluded this is all CDC guidance which they know is stupid, and they do it with a wink and a nod. We are all playacting in the world’s biggest virtue signal.
It is at least a little encouraging that they seem not to take the mask thing very seriously and barely comply.
Sounds like you had a better experience than expected. Hope your husband’s surgery went well and wishing him a speedy recovery.
Next time bring a black Sharpie with you. Write "Mask Psychosis" or something similar on the mask in large letters.
The problem is these people are just following written orders. They need the job. People need to have their surgeries and covid psychosis is real in too many, just look in any blue state in the north, in any store, masks everywhere again.
If more of us don't push back, this will never end.
