How do I say this? A sociopathic narcissist does not "believe he is doing good" because he does not care about doing good. Such a person has NO empathy, zero, nothing. He is completely aware of the death and suffering he has caused just as he is completely aware of the suffering he caused little orphan children he was experimenting on decades ago. He just doesn't care - AT ALL. He only cares about what is "good" for him and if he has to slaughter millions to accomplish this, it never even occurs to him that he shouldn't do it. Never even crosses his mind. I know people automatically don't understand this. People have a highly misleading concept that there is a little good in the worst of us. In fact, people expect others to have the same outlook or moral framework, more or less, as they do. Nothing could be further from the truth. When you are dealing with narcissistic sociopaths, you have no idea how they think. Imagine meeting the Devil. Totally evil without any empathy whatsoever. There is NO COMMON GROUND with such people (or with the Devil). (In Christian theology, this understanding is developed in the doctrine of the total depravity of man due to the fall. Which is why only God Himself could save us.)
I guess that is one way to frame it. Though I don't know how that changes one's view of them. Are they therefore just innocent victims of their own misunderstanding? Is their defense insanity?
I think what you are missing is an understanding of how narcissists think and operate. A true narcissist is extremely convincing. Just ask any woman who was married to one for decades. They have the ability to convince you that shit is candy. But at the same time, they are fully aware of what they are doing. You might want to have a conversation with a psychiatrist with experience dealing with these people.
Fauci and ppl like him dont scheme to kill people. Fauci thinks he is a hero , a benefactor of humanity. Fauci thinks fauci is a smart effective leader who is willing to make the tough choices. Ppl who disagree w fauci or think hes a bad guy are only behaving that way bc they are jealous or are politically motivated, or they are bad people. If fauci does something are there are bad effects or outcomes well its unfortunate but that is the price we pay to move humanity forward.
I think my view of fauci is correct and this makes him far more dangerous than your interpretation.

I disagree with you. As a medical prof i have been aware of fauci for a long time. Fauci thinks he is doing important work that will benefit humanity
