I have trouble if I go to Jeff's substack late in the day. The page of comments always has trouble loading. And if someone answers my comment and I receive the email notification, when I click on the other person's comment, it takes me to to the top of the comment page...never to the proper place to see which one of my comments got a response.

Yep, it's that there are SO many comments later in the day, many hundreds. I often cannot find one I'm looking for unless I get a notification from Substack of a "like" or reply. And when it's hot off the press, like now, while I'm writing a comment, the comment box suddenly disappears on me. I have to scroll to find it, lol.
I read the comments first on top until there are no more. Then later in the day I do “newest first’ and can read newest down to the top I started with. Later it’s impossible to read them all so I give up.
The comment box will move if, while you are typing in it, someone else "likes" the comment to which you are responding (thus moving it up in the thread). Likewise, if comments below the one to which you are responding get "liked" the box will shift down. It took me a while to figure it out.
Not just you Valerie. I read substack via the app not email. If I get a comment, I can see a portion of it. But if I try & link back to read the entire comment it usually takes me to the top of the comment page. Sometimes the comments will link on other substacks that that aren’t as loaded up with comments as C&C.
That happens to me as well. Very frustrating to be ushered to the top of the page when using the back link.
In fact, “everything” that has been mentioned in this thread has happened to me. Scrolling through hundreds of comments to find your place again is not a reasonable option. 🙄
Try going to an email notification of a "like" on your original comment. From there, click on your comment so it can take you to substack to view your comment. It will bring up your comment plus replies to your comment.
If you try to only view the replies to your comment via the email notification, substack can't locate it once comments reach a certain #. I find this happens frequently once total comments reach 500+. Some days are better or worse.
I use lap top and check the activity at top of page. Then you can click on that. Clicking on the email notification does not work. Like you said. I use at the top of the comments arrow/link to see the recent comments.

I am using a laptop.
Substack's system may not be designed to handle soooo many comments efficiently.
Jeff’s just too damned successful!

Yes I noticed that too and it is understandable but very frustrating when you’re trying to finish writing a comment and it jumps around like that!

That's it. Thanks.
Oh wow, I have assumed all this time it was my lack of tech skills
I thought it was my non techs skills as well.
Ok so it’s not just me. Frustrating, but I love the comment section here so I’m not going anywhere. Wish there was a fix.
When replies go to my email, I click on "my comment" and it takes me to that particular comment. Not to the top of the comment page.
I don’t own a laptop. The glitch occurs on my iPhone too.

See my comment above Kathleen, same things happens on my laptop. The refresh trick usually works.
Click on the word “comment” as in “replied to your COMMENT.”
You should jump to your own comment so you can find it.
The link is not differentiated by color. That mostly works for me.
Thanks.
