If I can’t have it then NO-ONE CAN! Now that’s a sane and mature tactic to take!

Seriously though, I’m calling this posturing even though lives are lost and even more are at risk. Given the fact that we are in a new type of warfare which does qualify as a world war, there is much that is not understood. I’m no expert, but I have followed this conflict for the past two decades. Everything that happens is first and foremost the tip of the iceberg and secondly it’s often done on paper thin margins and a very delicate trigger. If things escalate in one area they spill into another and often amplify. The warmongering globalists that use the USA as a fist know very well that they too will in danger should things explode because the world is a much smaller place. Us mere mortals will never have a crystal clear picture of what’s really going on, but we can build dynamic models and share information, which terrifies them. Thus all the hard work of the CIC: Censorship Industrial Complex.

Ha! We weren't all cowboys! My husband and I disagree with when it started to become blue. I think Pena started the move, Hickenlooper continued it, but Polis definitely solidified it. What's sad is that it is all the "elite" areas and Denver and Boulder which are blue. The rural areas are true red.

Doug's avatar

Hi Julie. California is much the same, except here it's the coastal regions. The most temperate, desirable (and some would say the prettiest) places (excluding LA) are populated with the blue majority. Out in the less-populated inland counties and a lot of the Sierra, where life is harder and seasons are more intense, there aren't as many people, but the people there tend to be made of tougher stuff and tend to be more conservative.

I and my wife are exceptions to our area, and so have few friends we can have very meaningful political discussions with without devolving into hard feelings. We've been self-censoring for years, not out of respect but out of a lack of interest in becoming completely isolated in our community. But I myself have become more vocal among our clique over the past year or so, particularly with my facebook posts, and we have paid a price socially, even over just that. We recently passed on attending a theater opening over concerns that my car might be keyed or a window broken by one of my "friends" who might be laboring under the impression that I'm a fascist, even after working with me for years. We just didn't need the hassle, the expense or the inconvenience enough to want to go, even though it was a fundraiser for some people we really like.

It's hard to think about leaving because we do like the area, and I must admit, it would feel like capitulation and weakness to this fighter. But I can see a day when it just won't be worth the fight anymore. I'm out-funded and outgunned by a thousand to one. The sensible thing to do would be to go somewhere I can be around people who see the world the way I do. But I'd rather see the assholes leave than abandon my beautiful state.

<sigh>...

My husband has a theory that cities always are blue, because people are disconnected from the tenets of reality: food, shelter and clothing, and how those things are produced. They believe in the power and purview of government for every problem. In some ways the Dem's approach is more practical in cities: everything you do affects everyone else, and there are so many different people living in tight places that the kind of liberties appropriate in cowtowns just don't work on NYC. Some urbanites are so used to the sprawling reach of government that they are in shock when they move to rural areas, "What? You don't have to ask permission for that?" I'm fine with these folks as long as they don't try to reimagine my small town into the shape of the totalitarian hellhole they just left.

I'll take what I can get - we got some decent wins. We kept Kevin Kiley in the Senate, who I really like. We defeated the attempt to put our family farmers out of business in favor of frankenfood. We passed Prop 36, making shoplifting illegal again. We kept our prisons from becoming Club Med for criminals, and instead kept them making license plates for $2/hr...

I would have preferred Steve Garvey - I HATE Schiff. He's garbage, no better than Feinstein at the end of her career.

My facebook "friends" are a bunch of libtards who have tried for months to prove intellectually how they're right and I'm wrong. And they're still trying, even though they lost in a big way. I have to admit, I've been secretly enjoying all their wailing over Kamala and their various doomsday scenario predictions with our new "dictator" in chief.

I think I may have to leave Cali if they put in Kamala as guv in '26... I can't even believe they would run that cow, but evidently she's their Great White Hope for hanging on to power... Let's hope 4 years of Trump will swing Californians away from this madness. She would be worse than Newscum, even though I thought it couldn't be worse. The Dems have a knack for lowering the bar...

It’s long been a tradition that an outgoing Administration does everything possible to steer clear of any military engagement in the transition period to a new Administration. The Biden administration is hell-bent to leave Trump an intractable mess from which it will have difficulty negotiating any peace agreement. Worse, they may actually succeed in getting World War III officially started.

The missiles destroyed property, not life, so a retaliation will almost certainly involve property destruction.

As Daverkb said, these NeoCons are clever but they are not very bright. If they push hard enough, the entire DC Beltway could become a radioactive crater. Russia has both hypersonic missiles and nuclear underwater drones that could be launched off our shores with only seconds to impact. The DoD has no defense against hypersonic missiles. Game over. A sobering thought considering that Putin has his own neocons to hold back who are tired of taking the NATO hits.

Expand full comment
Castelletto's avatar

Look at the incentives. Russia (and Iran) have everything to gain and little to lose by sitting tight, not taking the bait, responding in kind, and then mending fences with the US after Trump takes office. Same for the DoD/US. The only losers will be the globalists and neocons that are fighting for relevance as they get yanked off the stage. They're the ones pulling this crap, and it's not like Putin doesn't know it.

I heard someone credible (can't remember who is was) suggest that Trump has already talked with Putin. I have a fair amount of faith that the two of them will work things out once Trump is in office. Trump will probably work out a scenario in which Putin can save a certain amount of face in the solution, something that is important in his part of the world. Biden and the Democrat left don't understand that aspect of things because they're all idiots and don't ever learn a damn thing about other cultures. I worked in the Middle East for over 10 years (Iran, including through the departure of the Shah, and after that Saudi Arabia). I learned so much about those cultures and as I observed our government and diplomats overseas, I was astounded at how little they understood. You would think such people would be students of a broader cultural knowledge since they were dealing with many different religions and cultures, but what I saw was a shocking level of ignorance....and arrogance.

Years ago, when the university system was still a classical university level education, I believe that the foreign service was much better staffed. Today, the United States is the laughing stock of the world. And it's not any better in Europe or in New Zealand or Australia. I believe that slide really began in the 1950s with the binary ideological Cold War mentality (us or them). It will take at least a generation or two to completely rebuild standards, if it happens at all.

Not only not clever, but Forest Gump stupid as in 'stupid is what stupid does'.

The irony here is that the very 'education system' which was remade over into a control mechanism of the masses became the very same instrument causative of the Western World's presently ongoing destruction. This instrumentality along with the lame de-Christianized nominal clergy who can no longer think their way out of a wet paper bag ... and went along with the entire wacky program including locking the parishioners out of their churches during Covid Folly.

And so today's irony in spades is the G20 just walking away from Mr. Sleepy Creepy and Soy Boy Justin as though they did not exist, and to all purposes ... they don't. And the G20 had to do this because not walking away would have be seen by the rest of the world as leadership allying with Abject Stupidity, and there is no political percentage is ever to be had in looking invincibly abject stupid. And so, by all appearances seen, the world-wide Walk-Away Movement has now considerably and conspicuously enlarged itself.

(Trump better do something fast because the United States is rapidly becoming what Spain was to the Philippines ... and we know how that little story turned out.)

Eric, what's in a word? If 'cabal' is indiscriminately employed broadly speaking, maybe you are about the hating. But if 'cabal' signifies the ultimate and highest level of control of property, wealth and money, that which controls the Western World money spigots, then Trump might in fact be the instrumentality of that very same Cabal in a bid to rid themselves a massive gabble of loose cannons which have been busy razing to the ground all of the which The Money depends upon for its power base. After all, the Collective West is all broken, a shamble ... and the Collective West is the laughing stock material which (as in C & C of today) which caused all the G-20 leaders to just walk away from a discredited freak, or else otherwise risk being seen as soiling themselves 'by pretending' something is other than what the entire rest of the world sees quite clearly. And one may bet their boots that if the rest of the world sees the nincompoop folly of the managing elite leadership included, them the Alpha Money does too. And the Alpha Money controllers, rest assured, will act to save themselves whatever means are necessary to the take.

I suggest is what we are seeing is a top to ground total restructure in progress of the entire basis of operation throughout the Western World. The United States is the core around which this restructure is being organized. But make no mistake, this Great Remake is going to spill over into Europe, Canada, Australian and New Zealand ... and also significantly so throughout the Americas. It already has. In fact the early stages, the setting of the table so to speak, has been going on for most of the past to years.
