To some extent I agree. However, there are some who genuinely believe Jesus' commands to feed and clothe the poor means that Jesus was a communist and we need to give free stuff to everyone who can sneak in the country.

How many people that call themselves Christians are demanding we fully support Israel's militarism due to Dispensational beliefs (as opposed to stopping the killing on both sides)? Lots of them, and most have never really thought that deeply regarding the implications of their bias.
That's why it's so important that people attend a church that teaches "the full counsel of God" (i.e. chapter by chapter, verse by verse) rather than one where the pastor picks and chooses stuff he likes. If the pastor and congregants aren't squirming at times then God's Word isn't being fully taught.
