I'm a "student" of the late Dr. Michael Heiser. He wrote a remarkable book titled "Reversing Hermon" which delves into the book of Enoch's explanation of Genesis 6:4, the Nephilim, and the "mighty men of old".
Enoch relates the story of angelic beings who came (fell) to earth and sexually crossed one of God's most sacrosanct boundaries, that which lies between angelic beings and humans. The offspring of these unions were giants - evil giants - the elimination of whom was the principal reason for the global flood of Noah's days.
Those angels are believed by Dr. Heiser to have landed on earth via Mount Hermon; Heiser provides scriptural and historic support fot that belief. Heiser also references Jesus's visit to hell (mentioned in several protestant confessions) as something Jesus did to further condemn those angels to eternal confinement and punishment.
Catholics and Orthodox faithful consider the Book of Enoch non-canonical but worthy of study. Heiser basically exposits Enoch. A worthy and very accessible read, if you're interested. On Biblical questions like the Nephilim, I try to keep an open mind; therefore Michael Heiser's book is something I'd like to read. Recently I learned that both my pastor and a good friend who is a committed Christians are believers in the young earth hypothesis. I am keeping an open mind about it and have asked them both to recommend a book or two on the subject. Our pastor is a Princetonian and my friend is a Cornell engineer who designs piano keyboards for pianists with small hands. Neither is a "kook"; I have taken no position on the question but am interested in knowing more.
Some churches have Bible Study groups. Couples get together for meals, and study, discuss passages and interpretation, much like those who get together to play cards or discuss politics. Communing with like minded individuals and having discussion is how we learn to value and have empathy, build community and friendships. This non lecturing focus on the Bible is much more welcoming than the old, "You shall not question" fire and brimstone, dictatorial, boring readings of my childhood, and less sensory overload than the amplified electric churches of the 2000's.

Tucker Carlson converted? NO. My wife and I have speculated for some time now that his lunacy has stemmed from his resisting the call that God was graciously putting on his life. He was asking the right questions, but his fruit indicates he did not bend the knee to God and is now suffering the due consequence of his rebellion. Nor has he even claimed any kind of born-again experience, only that he began to read the Bible for himself. Apparently, all he has gotten out of it has been for himself.
There is something theologians call the noetic effect of sin. It describes how sin not only affects our bodies producing disease and death, but it also affects a person’s ability to think. It is an appropriate judgment upon those who make a pretense about their intellectual ability to discern truth, and then fail to follow The Way, The Truth and The Life to have their reasoning faculties stripped from them. Having given up on God, he has given up on reason. That is what I think we are witnessing.

It sounded to me like, in order for a religious action to be against the law, the proposal requires that the complainant show where a particular religious behavior conflicts with the constitution. That sounds like it would be equal for all religions. Jeff is a Christian, so his is a Christian perspective, but that’s not what the law seems to be about.

Agreed! Tucker is likely not born again based on his public comments. There is a spiritual movement going on right now, which is leading people to acknowledge God, even the God of the Bible, (Praise the Lord!) but I suspect it is yielding relatively few true conversions. George Whitefield echoed the message of Jesus to Nicodemus, "Ye must be born again". This "revival" will not be ripe until folks are truly acknowledging and serving the Lord Jesus Christ.
For all those who believe what we are seeing is true revival, I would urge caution:

I think the point Jeff made was that the Constitution was supposed to be a pre-emptive protection of God-given religious liberty, not allow for a government sponsorship of anti-religious efforts and then get sued back into compliance. This document appeared to be an effort to bring back the original meaning/interpretation of the constitution and move away from the subsequent contrived separation of church and state that originated from Jefferson's private letter and being used as a basis of subsequent law and court rulings.
Churches and leaders completely failed during COVID, just like every other institution. And they still don't see it. People coming to the church now (mostly) don't know that.
And there were a few who stood up to the tyranny. We had a few in California, not many, though. The churches close to where I live all failed. They are the biggest, woke crock of bull dodo that I have ever seen.
Many churches did fail,DET, but some repented and say "never again'. Those churches are still under the gun in some states. Those that still espouse government was right and all that came with it are probably apostate in my opinion. Seek out the Bible teaching churches, the whole Bible. Pastors that preach just to tickle the ears and empty the wallets of their parishioners are probably lost.

I don't go to church, too much hypocrisy. Also, 2 bad experiences with Lutheran pastors so I said bye bye awhile ago. My church is in Nature and talking to God, confiding in Him, being grateful and telling him I love Him and telling him I am sorry for not being a great example of Christianity but trying to do better. Also ask Him for many prayers to be fulfilled, not just for me but for humans and animals alike.
I'm really sorry that you've had bad experiences with church and pastors. Those kinds of experiences can be hard to recover from.
I hope that you are able to experience God's love for you, knowing that he loves you regardless of your performance as a "great example of Christianity." And I hope that you will at some point be able to discover a group of Christians with whom you can gather and worship and encourage. And it’s somewhat shocking to me how quickly the “church” buildings are growing when the very test of the church came during the covid scam and the churches and pastors and priests folded in the very fear The Bible says not to do. But God is bigger than the buildings. People were faced with evil and good and many made the correct choice. Courage became contagious in many instances. Churches who cowered in fear still struggle with attendance. Others who became strong and courageous are flourishing. May those churches welcome the masses and enthusiastically proclaim the real gospel. May we all spit on the watered down, hypocritical, lying and deceptive gospel of demons. Leave those churches behind and find a Bible believing and preaching church that will not cower next time -because next time will come.
That is what drove me from my traditional church to a charismatic church for a year when my church closed for 3 months and then reopened to masks, and seating charts, and sterilizing everything. The nondenominational church reopened after a couple of weeks and everyone was so joyful. While masks were not discouraged, virtually no one wore them. It took years after for me to realize that traditional churches and their members were caught off guard and panicked by the media reports. I hope and believe that very important lessons were learned during this time, and even the traditional churches will not abandon us again.
We did the same! The traditional bowed to the state but the no denominational found a way to still worship God. We have since moved to a red state and our new church, also non-denominational, definitely preaches the Gospel!

Athey Creek reopened when they saw the pot shops and liquor stores being allowed to stay open. So they learned quick. However, they should’ve seen the truth right away. They should’ve known their Constitutional Rights no matter what the pot shops were allowed to do.

True! Our local church has a Blessed Years Fellowship (BYF) group for 50+ folk. When the shutdowns came, it ran less than 50 attendees. We stopped meeting for a few weeks, then restarted. Our pastor came in and mentioned the things the church was doing to meet requirements (masks, distancing, etc) and asked if the folk were sure they still wanted to gather weekly. The unanimous response was YES! We even passed around and signed document detailing our decision for him. I am convinced our stand heartened pastor to take bolder stands against the nannies. Our BYF now runs ~100 each week, about a third are non attenders of our church who started coming when they found out we were meeting when theirs were shut down. The church itself saw growth then as well, because the folk craved commumity.

Massive properties, homes, etc. that are owned by churches thus not subject to taxation, even though the properties are not actual churches—this is what the separation of church and state has caused.

I am so encouraged by this post today. I have noticed a huge upswing in attendance at my church. I alternate between 2 churches and have seen the huge crowds at both. I go to a large Christian church on some Sundays and then attend a Catholic Church so I can receive communion. Both churches are packed! I see people turning their eyes toward God.
You actually CANNOT "receive Communion" at a Catholic Church if you are "not Catholic." If you are Catholic, you are still BOUND to attend Catholic Mass EVERY Sunday, and can only take Communion if you are in the state of grace. I understand some see these as minor points, but it remains Church teaching.
One needs to differentiate between ‘Church teachings’ that are the product of man, and Church teachings that are the product of God. In the past, Church teachings allowed priests to marry, forbade meat on Friday, etc. Changes in those rules came from men.
It’s why I don’t believe in infant baptism. It’s an orthodox practice designed by man, but no biblical instruction or precedence. As a matter of fact only child dedication was highlighted. We cannot make the decision of salvation for another person, not even a baby. They are ALL protected until the moment their conscience understands the decisions and makes it. For some that could be as early as 6 years old. For others it could be 20 or older. Only God knows the moment you understood. For me I was 10 years old. So while baptizing could be a nice way to “dedicate” your child to Christ and a promise to God that you will raise them in the faith, biblically baptism comes AFTER one has made the decision for themselves to follow God. That’s why we only dedicated our children.
My MIL was old world Catholic and was beside herself because the church had her believing if I got into a car accident with our baby in the car God would literally send them to hell if they died unbaptized. 🤨
It’s important to distinguish what is a tradition of man, and what is commanded/required by God.
I can respect traditions the Catholic Church chooses to express their faith so long as they are aware it’s a man-made rule/tradition and they don’t ridicule those who don’t practice the exact same way.
Don’t get me wrong, communion IS biblical, and required of believers, and I myself partake in that practice, but which church you go to to fulfill your sacraments only matters based on their foundational, biblical doctrines. And more than the Catholic Church have that sound doctrine in place.
When we had our first baby I did a deep dive into the Bible to learn everything I possibly could about babies and children, and what was required of parents. I was conflicted by what my MIL wanted me to do vs what our church practiced. If she was right, I wanted to obey God instead. But all I could find about infancy was Samuel, and it wasn’t until he was 2-4 years old (whatever age he was weaned from his mother.) so a toddler, not a baby. Hannah dedicated her son to God because of her vow she made when she was barren. She promised to give her son to the Lord’s service if He granted her a child (1 Samuel 1:11). This dedication established Samuel as a prophet, priest, and the last judge of Israel.
Nowhere else does the Bible speak to babies, and definitely nothing about baptizing them. Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them tells me we are to LEAD them to where Christ is, and let Him take care of the rest. That is their best chance of choosing Him once they are competent to make such a choice.
Everything else I found in the Bible assured me the character of our Father God, that he is loving and would protect all babies and children from being sent to hell as they have no ability to understand their needing to choose or reject God.
So the Bible gives precedence for parents to dedicate their children to God, at at an age when they are just becoming trainable, and make an oath to lead them to Christ as they raise him. Similar to a wedding making that oath public, and baptisms making a public declaration of one’s choice to follow God, a dedication of a baby/toddler is a public oath AND declaration of how you will parent that child.
But I never ridicule or chastise my Catholic friends who baptize their children. That is their tradition that allows them to practice their faith and obedience to God. Within that practice is the same oath of a dedication. The only criticism I have is when they judge others by wrongly believing a child that is not baptized as a baby is not saved by God. That’s just not in sync with His character or promises.

They both were confirmed and received first communion. Interesting to me that only one of them is actually religious now. I still pray that my other daughter will come back to the faith.
I’m going to say something horribly unpopular…..the Bible was written by men, who had never seen or spoken with Jesus. At the time of its writing, various people submitted their ‘chapters’ for inclusion. Some were kept and others, like the Infancy Gospel, were not accepted for inclusion. My relationship with God is a personal one. I don’t need a middleman, like a priest or a reverend, nor do I need to go to a fancy building that, more often than not, was built to the detriment of the surrounding community. Here is a fun fact: in Ireland, a seriously Catholic country, during the famine, where thousands were dying of starvation, not one priest died of starvation. We read horror stories of what people in religious orders, priests and nuns, did to children. I do not need a priest or reverend to tell me what to eat, when to pray or how to behave. My morality and personal relationship with God tells me. Just my opinion.
I agree that I don’t need to follow man-made orthodox traditions or rules, and I have everything I need to guide me in the Bible for the rules and traditions God wants me to follow, but several of the writers of the New Testament walked with Jesus and were his disciples - and there were hundreds of first hand witnesses. You’re believing what other “men” have declared about the Bible and they are wrong. Why believe what a man says rather than God? God told Moses to write down His words. He told many men from Jesus’ time to write His words too. He says it is sufficient for teaching, correction, and discipline. Man is not needed for that - but they ARE needed for community and worship.
The way I see the Bible is it is an owner’s manual for the product “man”. God created the world and man, who better to know how best to use and care for it to get the best out of it? I don’t use the owner’s manual from my blender to know how best to use my washing machine. But that’s what people do with their lives, they use everything BUT the Bible and miss out on the one book that explains how it was designed to work. Of course God gave us an owner’s manual. And it’s the Bible. Why believe he created us but He was incapable of giving us His instructions?
The best evidence out there that it is indeed the Word of God and not simply “written by men” is that nothing, and I mean nothing, that man has thought up and imagined has stood the test of time without constant modifications or complete transformations. Yet the Bible translated from the original Arabic and Greek is the same today as it was 2000 years ago. The Old Testament lasted how many thousands of years? That’s impossible. Man cannot do that, it would take divine intervention to survive the adulteration that man would cause. Maybe it might survive a few hundred years but eventually sin and arrogance and the desire for power and manipulation will take over and change it. But the Bible hasn’t changed.
Also, while you don’t need a priest or reverend to know God’s word, we do need our church communities for the fellowship God wants us to have with each other. A priest and reverend are shepherds of a flock to make sure they don’t stray from the pasture, and to protect them. Well - that’s what they are “supposed” to do but these days we are flooded with many false teachers and nobody to protect the flock from their deception or selfish ambition. That’s why it’s important to find a Bible teaching church that stays true to His word, with truly humble and obedient leadership.

With all due respect, ultimately, all of this "self-found" authority flows out of disappointment that "God didn't choose me..." He certainly COULD have come in MY time, and COULD have chosen ME to be one of The Twelve, but He chose OTHERS, for His OWN reasons. Believers get over that quickly, understanding that "not everyone can be an apostle" and work instead to become "parts" of the Body of Christ, instead of insisting that everybody has to be the head.

To some people Communion is only a reminder. In the Catholic Church, it is MUCH more; namely, THE self-same Body and Blood of Christ to which He referred when He proclaimed "Except you eat the flesh of the Son of Man, and drink His blood, you shall not have life in you." THE Body and Blood of Christ is made present, again, in an unbloody way, on the altar, at the pinnacle of every Mass. Christ also warned people not to take it lightly ("whosoever shall eat this bread, or drink the chalice of the Lord unworthily, shall be guilty of the Body and of the Blood of the Lord").
You live your life by a different standard of love and kindness, but we can agree you are living by your own lights.

The whole concept of trying to put a "measure" of any kind to the Eucharist seems ridiculous to me. God is infinite. Whether the Eucharist is received under both species, or "just" the host, truly does not matter (imho); as I consider the many Eucharistic miracles in which consecrated hosts have BLED. So, to think the blood of our Lord is not also present in the host appears to be mistaken.
The Church teaches that Christ is wholly present under either species alone. However, for people who don't believe that Christ is "truly" present--at all--I can understand why it might be important to "get the full serving."

I'm a "student" of the late Dr. Michael Heiser. He wrote a remarkable book titled "Reversing Hermon" which delves into the book of Enoch's explanation of Genesis 6:4, the Nephilim, and the "mighty men of old".
Enoch relates the story of angelic beings who came (fell) to earth and sexually crossed one of God's most sacrosanct boundaries, that which lies between angelic beings and humans. The offspring of these unions were giants - evil giants - the elimination of whom was the principal reason for the global flood of Noah's days.
Those angels are believed by Dr. Heiser to have landed on earth via Mount Hermon; Heiser provides scriptural and historic support fot that belief. Heiser also references Jesus's visit to hell (mentioned in several protestant confessions) as something Jesus did to further condemn those angels to eternal confinement and punishment.
Catholics and Orthodox faithful consider the Book of Enoch non-canonical but worthy of study. Heiser basically exposits Enoch. A worthy and very accessible read, if you're interested. Our PCA pastor read it and incorporated much of it in a sermon that explained why we confess Jesus "descended to hell".

Some churches have Bible Study groups. Couples get together for meals, and study, discuss passages and interpretation, much like those who get together to play cards or discuss politics. Communing with like minded individuals and having discussion is how we learn to value and have empathy, build community and friendships. This non lecturing focus on the Bible is much more welcoming than the old, "You shall not question" fire and brimstone, dictatorial, boring readings of my childhood, and less sensory overload than the amplified electric churches of the 2000's.

It was only when I scrolled down to the redeemed photo of Alex the Taro card reader and looked into her eyes, gazed at her countenance, that I burst into tears. Truly the face of a redeemed woman! I have often looked back at pictures of myself before accepting my Lord and Savior. My eyes were truly dead and my spirit was knell. Today I go to Walmart and see the spiritually dead walking among us. The old men look like skeleton skulls, with 3 black holes staring back at me. At times it feels overwhelming to see all the lost souls, but I know the Lord is still at work to bring in the harvest!!

Having known Jesus since childhood, I’m fascinated with and almost jealous of people who find Him later in life. They remind me of Isaiah 9:2 and Matthew 4:16—"The people walking in darkness have seen a great light. On those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned." Tucker Carlson converted? NO. My wife and I have speculated for some time now that his lunacy has stemmed from his resisting the call that God was graciously putting on his life. He was asking the right questions, but his fruit indicates he did not bend the knee to God and is now suffering the due consequence of his rebellion. Nor has he even claimed any kind of born-again experience, only that he began to read the Bible for himself. Apparently, all he has gotten out of it has been for himself.
There is something theologians call the noetic effect of sin. It describes how sin not only affects our bodies producing disease and death, but it also affects a person’s ability to think. It is an appropriate judgment upon those who make a pretense about their intellectual ability to discern truth, and then fail to follow The Way, The Truth and The Life to have their reasoning faculties stripped from them. Having given up on God, he has given up on reason. That is what I think we are witnessing.

It sounded to me like, in order for a religious action to be against the law, the proposal requires that the complainant show where a particular religious behavior conflicts with the constitution. It could be a combination of factors. He was a neglected, child growing up with access to drugs and alcohol, money and status. He will say he was privileged, but to me that speaks of money, and too much freedom at a young age. So far, to his credit, he appears to have kept his wife and children. They have been his compass, but the kids are grown and things got 'too real' in DC. He had to leave his D.C. Cocktail Crowd, and flee to the woods of Maine, where he is isolated and repeatedly, claims he does not partake of Social Media.
He is going through empty nest syndrome and has lost his adoring Conservative crowd, yet clutching at his youth by attempting to be the 'wise elder' to an adoring, rebellious Gen-z crowd. Basically, he is going through a mid-life crisis!

Agreed! Tucker is likely not born again based on his public comments. There is a spiritual movement going on right now, which is leading people to acknowledge God, even the God of the Bible, (Praise the Lord!) but I suspect it is yielding relatively few true conversions. George Whitefield echoed the message of Jesus to Nicodemus, "Ye must be born again". This "revival" will not be ripe until folks are truly acknowledging and serving the Lord Jesus Christ.
For all those who believe what we are seeing is true revival, I would urge caution:

Part of the problem in conversion of the intellectual is a lack of physical guidance. That is a person with which to discuss the changes. We are inundated with sudden and complete conversions but even Paul had to sit, blinded, for three days. Afterward he spent three years in Arabia. I think the point Jeff made was that the Constitution was supposed to be a pre-emptive protection of God-given religious liberty, not allow for a government sponsorship of anti-religious efforts and then get sued back into compliance. This document appeared to be an effort to bring back the original meaning/interpretation of the constitution and move away from the subsequent contrived separation of church and state that originated from Jefferson's private letter and being used as a basis of subsequent law and court rulings.
Churches and leaders completely failed during COVID, just like every other institution. And they still don't see it. People coming to the church now (mostly) don't know that.
And there were a few who stood up to the tyranny. We had a few in California, not many, though. The churches close to where I live all failed. They are the biggest, woke crock of bull dodo that I have ever seen.
Many churches did fail,DET, but some repented and say "never again'. Those churches are still under the gun in some states. Those that still espouse government was right and all that came with it are probably apostate in my opinion. Seek out the Bible teaching churches, the whole Bible. Pastors that preach just to tickle the ears and empty the wallets of their parishioners are probably lost.

I don't go to church, too much hypocrisy. Also, 2 bad experiences with Lutheran pastors so I said bye bye awhile ago. My church is in Nature and talking to God, confiding in Him, being grateful and telling him I love Him and telling him I am sorry for not being a great example of Christianity but trying to do better. Also ask Him for many prayers to be fulfilled, not just for me but for humans and animals alike.
I'm really sorry that you've had bad experiences with church and pastors. Those kinds of experiences can be hard to recover from.
I hope that you are able to experience God's love for you, knowing that he loves you regardless of your performance as a "great example of Christianity." And I hope that you will at some point be able to discover a group of Christians with whom you can gather and worship and encourage. My current church body has embodied Jesus to me and to our family in the midst of some very hard times.

When I talk with my nephews or other young people, they are under the impression that the 5 guaranteed rights in the 1st amendment are rights "from" and NOT rights "of"!

Disagreeing with a government/country politics is not a reflection of the people in general. I hated the Obama/Biden governments and the way many in this country were behaving (child mutilation, pushing LGBTQ lifestyles on children, glorifying abortion, mandating medical interventions, etc). But that did not paint our entire citizenship as evil; I was not anti-American. I can hate the government leadership of China, Cuba, North Korea AND Israel. Have been a Christian (by the grace of God) for 30 years. One of my (many) beefs with “The Church” is lack of enthusiasm. Inadequate wonder and awe at the mysteries of faith. You cannot be too enthusiastic in your love and adoration of God tge Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit!!

And it’s somewhat shocking to me how quickly the “church” buildings are growing when the very test of the church came during the covid scam and the churches and pastors and priests folded in the very fear The Bible says not to do. They didn’t practice what they preached. The hypocrisy was thick. It was shameful.
But God is bigger than the buildings. People were faced with evil and good and many made the correct choice. Courage became contagious in many instances. Churches who cowered in fear still struggle with attendance. Others who became strong and courageous are flourishing. May those churches welcome the masses and enthusiastically proclaim the real gospel. May we all spit on the watered down, hypocritical, lying and deceptive gospel of demons. Leave those churches behind and find a Bible believing and preaching church that will not cower next time -because next time will come.
That is what drove me from my traditional church to a charismatic church for a year when my church closed for 3 months and then reopened to masks, and seating charts, and sterilizing everything. The nondenominational church reopened after a couple of weeks and everyone was so joyful. While masks were not discouraged, virtually no one wore them. It took years after for me to realize that traditional churches and their members were caught off guard and panicked by the media reports. I hope and believe that very important lessons were learned during this time, and even the traditional churches will not abandon us again.
We did the same! The traditional bowed to the state but the no denominational found a way to still worship God. We have since moved to a red state and our new church, also non-denominational, definitely preaches the Gospel!

You are correct! Including Athey Creek that got mentioned above. I do think that SOME churches learned a hard lesson and won’t make that same mistake again though. Athey Creek reopened when they saw the pot shops and liquor stores being allowed to stay open. So they learned quick. However, they should’ve seen the truth right away. They should’ve known their Constitutional Rights no matter what the pot shops were allowed to do.

True! Our local church has a Blessed Years Fellowship (BYF) group for 50+ folk. When the shutdowns came, it ran less than 50 attendees. We stopped meeting for a few weeks, then restarted. Our pastor came in and mentioned the things the church was doing to meet requirements (masks, distancing, etc) and asked if the folk were sure they still wanted to gather weekly. The unanimous response was YES! We even passed around and signed document detailing our decision for him. I am convinced our stand heartened pastor to take bolder stands against the nannies. Our BYF now runs ~100 each week, about a third are non attenders of our church who started coming when they found out we were meeting when theirs were shut down. The church itself saw growth then as well, because the folk craved commumity.

One church (he did not name it) has a hunting lodge in its portfolio of tax-exempt properties. Massive properties, homes, etc. that are owned by churches thus not subject to taxation, even though the properties are not actual churches—this is what the separation of church and state has caused.

I am so encouraged by this post today. I have noticed a huge upswing in attendance at my church. I alternate between 2 churches and have seen the huge crowds at both. I go to a large Christian church on some Sundays and then attend a Catholic Church so I can receive communion. Both churches are packed! I see people turning their eyes toward God.
You actually CANNOT "receive Communion" at a Catholic Church if you are "not Catholic." If you are Catholic, you are still BOUND to attend Catholic Mass EVERY Sunday, and can only take Communion if you are in the state of grace. I understand some see these as minor points, but it remains Church teaching.
One needs to differentiate between ‘Church teachings’ that are the product of man, and Church teachings that are the product of God. In the past, Church teachings allowed priests to marry, forbade meat on Friday, etc. Changes in those rules came from men.

It’s why I don’t believe in infant baptism. It’s an orthodox practice designed by man, but no biblical instruction or precedence. As a matter of fact only child dedication was highlighted. We cannot make the decision of salvation for another person, not even a baby. They are ALL protected until the moment their conscience understands the decisions and makes it. For some that could be as early as 6 years old. For others it could be 20 or older. Only God knows the moment you understood. For me I was 10 years old. So while baptizing could be a nice way to “dedicate” your child to Christ and a promise to God that you will raise them in the faith, biblically baptism comes AFTER one has made the decision for themselves to follow God. That’s why we only dedicated our children.
My MIL was old world Catholic and was beside herself because the church had her believing if I got into a car accident with our baby in the car God would literally send them to hell if they died unbaptized. 🤨
It’s important to distinguish what is a tradition of man, and what is commanded/required by God.
I can respect traditions the Catholic Church chooses to express their faith so long as they are aware it’s a man-made rule/tradition and they don’t ridicule those who don’t practice the exact same way.
Don’t get me wrong, communion IS biblical, and required of believers, and I myself partake in that practice, but which church you go to to fulfill your sacraments only matters based on their foundational, biblical doctrines. And more than the Catholic Church have that sound doctrine in place.

When we had our first baby I did a deep dive into the Bible to learn everything I possibly could about babies and children, and what was required of parents. I was conflicted by what my MIL wanted me to do vs what our church practiced. If she was right, I wanted to obey God instead. But all I could find about infancy was Samuel, and it wasn’t until he was 2-4 years old (whatever age he was weaned from his mother.) so a toddler, not a baby. Hannah dedicated her son to God because of her vow she made when she was barren. She promised to give her son to the Lord’s service if He granted her a child (1 Samuel 1:11). This dedication established Samuel as a prophet, priest, and the last judge of Israel.
Nowhere else does the Bible speak to babies, and definitely nothing about baptizing them. Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them tells me we are to LEAD them to where Christ is, and let Him take care of the rest. That is their best chance of choosing Him once they are competent to make such a choice.
Everything else I found in the Bible assured me the character of our Father God, that he is loving and would protect all babies and children from being sent to hell as they have no ability to understand their needing to choose or reject God.
So the Bible gives precedence for parents to dedicate their children to God, at at an age when they are just becoming trainable, and make an oath to lead them to Christ as they raise him. Similar to a wedding making that oath public, and baptisms making a public declaration of one’s choice to follow God, a dedication of a baby/toddler is a public oath AND declaration of how you will parent that child.
But I never ridicule or chastise my Catholic friends who baptize their children. That is their tradition that allows them to practice their faith and obedience to God. Within that practice is the same oath of a dedication. The only criticism I have is when they judge others by wrongly believing a child that is not baptized as a baby is not saved by God. That’s just not in sync with His character or promises.

I’m going to say something horribly unpopular…..the Bible was written by men, who had never seen or spoken with Jesus. At the time of its writing, various people submitted their ‘chapters’ for inclusion. Some were kept and others, like the Infancy Gospel, were not accepted for inclusion. My relationship with God is a personal one. I don’t need a middleman, like a priest or a reverend, nor do I need to go to a fancy building that, more often than not, was built to the detriment of the surrounding community. Here is a fun fact: in Ireland, a seriously Catholic country, during the famine, where thousands were dying of starvation, not one priest died of starvation. We read horror stories of what people in religious orders, priests and nuns, did to children. I do not need a priest or reverend to tell me what to eat, when to pray or how to behave. My morality and personal relationship with God tells me. Just my opinion.

He told many men from Jesus’ time to write His words too. He says it is sufficient for teaching, correction, and discipline. Man is not needed for that - but they ARE needed for community and worship.
The way I see the Bible is it is an owner’s manual for the product “man”. God created the world and man, who better to know how best to use and care for it to get the best out of it? I don’t use the owner’s manual from my blender to know how best to use my washing machine. But that’s what people do with their lives, they use everything BUT the Bible and miss out on the one book that explains how it was designed to work. Of course God gave us an owner’s manual. And it’s the Bible. Why believe he created us but He was incapable of giving us His instructions?
The best evidence out there that it is indeed the Word of God and not simply “written by men” is that nothing, and I mean nothing, that man has thought up and imagined has stood the test of time without constant modifications or complete transformations. Yet the Bible translated from the original Arabic and Greek is the same today as it was 2000 years ago. The Old Testament lasted how many thousands of years? That’s impossible. Man cannot do that, it would take divine intervention to survive the adulteration that man would cause. Maybe it might survive a few hundred years but eventually sin and arrogance and the desire for power and manipulation will take over and change it. But the Bible hasn’t changed.
Also, while you don’t need a priest or reverend to know God’s word, we do need our church communities for the fellowship God wants us to have with each other. A priest and reverend are shepherds of a flock to make sure they don’t stray from the pasture, and to protect them. Well - that’s what they are “supposed” to do but these days we are flooded with many false teachers and nobody to protect the flock from their deception or selfish ambition. That’s why it’s important to find a Bible teaching church that stays true to His word, with truly humble and obedient leadership.
I’m agreeing with what textual scholars and historians say. No one writing in the New Testament was an eye witness to Jesus.

The gospels and epistles were written decades after Jesus’ death, and the texts themselves give no indication that their authors were eyewitnesses. In fact, the earliest gospel (Mark) appears around 70 CE, roughly forty years after the crucifixion, and it is anonymous. Matthew and Luke both copy Mark extensively, which strongly suggests they were not eyewitnesses; if Matthew had personally followed Jesus, he would not need to rely on someone else’s account. Agreed they came from men. And we accept MANY things that come from men--WHEN and IF "they have been given appropriate authority." If you will check your history, you will see that the Catholic Church, alone, has that. One does not "find" authority in a book and declare "it authorizes me" to do anything. That way leads to oceans of people claiming contradictory authority. Back BEFORE the Bible even existed, there was still The church, One church, and She Alone had been given authority by the Man-God Who established Her. From Her ultimately flowed the Bible some would foolishly claim condemns Her. You can choose not to believe it, but the fact is, NO OTHER church has an equally ancient and reasonable claim.
With all due respect, ultimately, all of this "self-found" authority flows out of disappointment that "God didn't choose me..." He certainly COULD have come in MY time, and COULD have chosen ME to be one of The Twelve, but He chose OTHERS, for His OWN reasons. Believers get over that quickly, understanding that "not everyone can be an apostle" and work instead to become "parts" of the Body of Christ, instead of insisting that everybody has to be the head.

True David. But I honestly don’t think the creator of the universe is keeping score on who is attending the Catholic Church every Sunday. I like to receive Communion as it is a reminder of the great sacrifice that Jesus made on our behalf. The man made rules are real, but I live my life by a different standard of love and kindness.
You dismissively call it "keeping score," but what you refer to has been called "The Ten Commandments" for millennia.
You should consider that you might be wrong, and that an All-Powerful Creator just might have His own ideas about how He is to be worshiped, and even left instructions for same.
To some people Communion is only a reminder. In the Catholic Church, it is MUCH more; namely, THE self-same Body and Blood of Christ to which He referred when He proclaimed "Except you eat the flesh of the Son of Man, and drink His blood, you shall not have life in you." THE Body and Blood of Christ is made present, again, in an unbloody way, on the altar, at the pinnacle of every Mass. Christ also warned people not to take it lightly ("whosoever shall eat this bread, or drink the chalice of the Lord unworthily, shall be guilty of the Body and of the Blood of the Lord").
You live your life by a different standard of love and kindness, but we can agree you are living by your own lights.
David, how some see these as minor points is mind boggling. One MUST have formal prep for receiving Communion. It is NOT something for just anyone to "take" once in a while.
Happy, that is not my experience. The post-Vatican-II Catholic "culture" appears to emphasize "staying silent" on points which "might offend" in favor of "affirming the individual."
No communion at a "Christan" church? How can that church call itself Christian? If you take communion at a Catholic church you only get a half serving, and do you go to confession to be able to take that communion? Better to find a Bible based church that delivers the true message of Christ along with the body and blood which was given for you for the forgiveness of sins .
You are in great error. That Communion serving is the actual body, blood, soul and divinity of the Lord Jesus Christ.

(Only the priest gets wine, in the Traditional ancient Latin rite. neener has not kept up with the radical innovations of and since Vatican II (which include serving Communion under both species), and that's tragic, because all those "new ideas" were supposed to result in all Protestants returning to the Church. Protestants respond, rather, to truth.)
The whole concept of trying to put a "measure" of any kind to the Eucharist seems ridiculous to me. God is infinite. Whether the Eucharist is received under both species, or "just" the host, truly does not matter (imho); as I consider the many Eucharistic miracles in which consecrated hosts have BLED. So, to think the blood of our Lord is not also present in the host appears to be mistaken.
The Church teaches that Christ is wholly present under either species alone. However, for people who don't believe that Christ is "truly" present--at all--I can understand why it might be important to "get the full serving."

LOL! Yes, Santa Maria wholeheartedly embraces Independence Day...almost 365 days a year! The super-barrage starts at around 1600 (7/4) and goes til 0100 (7/5). But really, everybody has to test out their stash of illegal fireworks starting in June...and of course once or twice a week for good measure the rest of the year. It's crazy....🙄🎆🎇🧨🎇🎆🙄
