And they were THRILLED when Johnson ascended to the Speakership, as they had so much to hold over him. It is like shooting fish in a barrel.
What exactly do they have over him?
If it were public knowledge, they wouldn't be able to use it.
Of course I am speculating. How else do you explain the rapidity and completeness of his betrayal of the promises he made to gain enough votes to get the position? Hakeem Jeffries himself said Dems run the house now.
My guess is that it has to do with behavioral proclivities that would endanger his marital and family status.
I once worked for a guy who was a congressman for a short while and then a high level admin in the WH. He said that on his very first trip into DC after being sworn in "they" attempted a honeypot operation on him. They tried many times and failed, then planted a story about him having an affair with a staffer in the WP (he had a position on a very influential committee). I know, I am relying on his word that they failed...
That's why it took 6 months to pass an aid package and Johnson was praised by everyone including people here.
