Because America is again alone and on the hook for all countries ships having safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz, I think we should rename it The Strait of America. This will help justify a 20% tariff on all ships cargo.

strait /strāt/

noun

A narrow channel joining two larger bodies of water.

"straits that were treacherous; the Strait of Gibraltar; the Bosporus Straits."

A position of difficulty, perplexity, distress, or need.

"in desperate straits."

My guess is Trump will claim Iran has restarted its nuke development under Pickaxe mountain to justify the renewed military strikes. Americans not paying attention need a moral reason to support (like stopping the drug boats from Venezuela)

Also, I think the US collecting any toll for traversing Hormuz are mostly just words. Unless there is a way for all carriers using that Strait to be forced to purchase commercial maritime insurance from the Chubb/US government private/public entity created in partnership w/ DFC in March ‘26:

https://news.chubb.com/2026-03-20-Chubb-Details-Structure-of-the-Gulf-Maritime-Insurance-Facility-with-DFC

If shippers must us Chubb (instead of Lloyds or Kong Kong issuers), then there’s a clear mechanism to collect.

Update: Trump posted this AM that the 20% tarring is off and replaced by ‘Gulf State investments’ in USA instead. AP article reports:

“Based on highly productive conversations with Middle East leadership, I have decided to replace the 20% United States Reimbursement Fee with Trade and Investment Deals that the various Gulf States will be making into the United States,” Trump said on social media.”

In exchange for this protection didn’t the Gulf nations agree to:

-sell their oil in dollars

-buy our Treasuries?

That’s hardly free.

"My guess is Trump will claim Iran has restarted its nuke development under Pickaxe mountain to justify the renewed military strikes" - Could be.

Like you said they need some excuse to rally the home base. We may find out on Thursday's speech. I'm thinking he's going to ask congress for a formal declaration of war. Hope I'm wrong but what else hasn't he done?

The great thing from his view is if congress says "Yes" he gets war for his banking cartel owners and if they say "No" he gets an excuse to quit. Just my SWAG.

All the Sunni gulf coast oil monarchies were in on the attack. They allowed bases on their soil to be used then played innocent bystander and complained about being attacked. They didn't send planes to bomb Iran. They just allowed the USA to do it for them.

If you are a base, you are a valid target. They found that out the hard way. How long they go on with it before they ask the USA to leave is the question.

Johnny-O's avatar

If you think the US has control of the Strait, or even the capacity to control it - you need to do some research. This is bananas.

James Goodrich's avatar

If America wanted to control the strait they could. We just need to do what it takes to make it happen. If Hitler had a funeral for a major leader, out in the open, with hundreds of thousands of Nazis that supported him, we would have blown that funeral to smithereens. Today it’s all about these ridiculous rules of engagement. Take those away and Iran would be all done. It’s having the will to win, we haven’t had that in 90 years. Do you think if Iran could do us in they wouldn’t because of rules of engagement, no way.

Johnny-O's avatar

You are just patently wrong here James. Unless of course, you are talking about launching hundreds of nukes at them, which of course, would be horrifically insane, retarded, inhuman, ungodly, etc.

Iran has actually shown restraint this whole time. They have thousands of capable missiles and 10s of thousands of drones. Furthermore, Israel doesn't even have the capacity to stop them at this point, making the old false argument that they want to wipe them off the map null and void, because they can right now if they wanted.

Don't take it from me, take it from someone who studies this daily for their job at one of the top universities in the country, Ted Postel at MIT.

then how do you explain crooked politicians, judges and lawyers worldwide, in a higher percentage than the general population? That is not to say there aren't any honest ones in such professions

Michelle Enmark, DDS's avatar

Is it a higher percentage than the normal population, or is it more publicly visible? The politicians I think is an easier answer as far as moral compass and ethical standards. Maybe this is a chicken and egg type question?Maybe those professions sometimes attract a certain type of person in general. These are gross generalizations as well. I know quite a few honest attorneys, my daughter being one, Peter GL.

Leo's avatar

Michelle, Yes, plus opportunity and publicity.

Leo's avatar

Peter, What are those percentages?

Peter GL's avatar

Leo, how many politicians do you know to be true to their ideals and not in it for the money? For example Obama's net worth was approximately $1.3 million when he entered the White House in 2008. By the time he left office in January 2017, his estimated net worth had grown to roughly $12.2 million, an almost tenfold increase

Leo's avatar

Peter, I don't know many politicians - but they certainly do seem to have financial opportunities most people don't. Connections in high places, pre-knowledge...etc. Again, please share those percentages you referenced.

Much speculation about Graham, AND Trump's Thursday address. Has anyone considered the possibility that Graham was a double agent, so to speak? Not a RINO, and warmonger, as I always believed. Trump knew him and trusted him. I was irked that he went to Ukraine to see that disgusting Zelensky dude. But immediately afterward that drone factory was destroyed, apparently by pinpointing it using Lindsey's phone. Was that the reason all along? Was that why Ukraine decided to take him out with the heart attack weapon that has been used before?

As for Thursday - I think whatever is shown will protect the Midterms for Trump.

Queen Hotchibobo's avatar

My own rampant speculation is they are looking for or at lots of money. Cash money.

I have long speculated that the reason for congressional junkets to Ukraine are because wire transfers are…troublesome, shall we say.

A suitcase full of cash is harder to trace later, but spectacularly easy to figure out if someone just flew in on the plane and hasn’t had a chance to ‘unpack’ yet.

It might explain, at least partially, why one would call a staffer rather than 911, since an emergency call will bring law enforcement right into your humble abode.

Maybe not. Graham was not known for being unaccountably rich, but I can’t help but wonder.

AwakeNotWoke's avatar

He was a leader in, and as an effeminate homosexual he epitomized, the GOP.

Listen to his own words:

He said: "If you can't admire Joe Biden as a person, you've got a problem. He's the nicest person I've ever met in politics. As good a man as God ever created."

Those are not the words of a double agent.

Those are the words of a traitor.

You know, Graham was a regular visitor to Disney.......... really makes me wonder about the Q-anon rumored tunnels and child trafficking under there. AwakeNotWoke's avatar

It's your prerogative to be a fan of the LGBT. I'm more concerned about what his other predilections might have been. Rex Heuermann owned over 5 acres of land in the Mirror Lakes subdivision on Rippling Brooke Drive in Chester, South Carolina. Graham had a similar vibe to Huermann.

Jacquijacq's avatar

mspring's avatar

That thought occurred to me as welll, considering the pain associated with Aortic dissection, if he was on phone (perhaps discussing the morning tv appearance), and it happened, he may not have been able to hang up and place 911 call, might have just collapsed, so staffer made the call. Certainly a possibility. Also not beyond realm of reason that the security folk and spooks wanted to secure everything a single man in his unique situation would have.

Our system is based on Imago Dei - man made in image of God; creative humans to discover and convert earth's resources for benefit of humanity, for family, community, nation.

There have been untold agent/double agent manipulations. I'm just learning vast specifics within British/Iranian history alone. The amount of meddling in Russia a century ago; recently Ukraine!!..... There was so much strange love for Lindsay Grahamnesty on X yesterday, and from unexpected sources. And "he didn't have much money, so he must have been above bar," was a common theme. Did they include possible offshore accounts under aliases and bogus corporations? Then there was the brain farting "he got the jab," explanation, so. Is she a millionaire? Trump just appointed her senator, so if she's not yet, it's time.

I think he took his bribes in boys, alcohol, and maybe drugs. And he got off on the sheer love of killing, as you can see in many clips.

Sex, booze, and mass murder. That's what made him tick, not more than a couple of million dollars.

I keep hearing he wasn't filthy rich, worth 1.5 million or so. How do people know this? His row house in DC is probably worth a million or more, plus he had property in SC. Did he have off shore bank accounts? Probably ......

and now with all we know about (s)election fraud, they don't get to be senator without checking all the right boxes

People say they should pass the Russia sanctions bill as an homage to Graham, which seems foolish at this point. Why dont they instead pass the Save Act? He was in favor of that as well! Why cant Russia and US get past all the impediments and work together in some capacity. It makes no sense.

Trump is amazing in almost every level. He doesnt always see through the friendly enemies.

By the way JEFF, whats up with JD's recent bizarre comments on the free market economy, meritocracy, and Milton Friedman? Also ambition? Color us concerned!

And why is Ilhan Omar not charged for immigration and financial fraud yet? After serving time in a federal pen she needs to be deported to her beloved homeland.

Read PrometheanAction (Susan Kokinda and a growing group of similar interpreters) historic view - FRAMING - to understand difference between 'free trade' and Fair trade among sovereign nations; A. Hamilton vs Freidman. Trump administration is realigning world for FAIR trade according to principles of 'American system of economy.' The DRASTIC reduction in inflation is direct consequence. It's an amazing reframing about our own history which has been censored for a century from our institutions. Bessent, Navarro, Vance, Rubio etc are NAMING it and DOING it!!!! much to the chagrin of EU, Iran, WEF, etc (Empire/globalists).... Sovereign nations is one key. It can include Russia, China, India, even Iran, (this very day Iraq!). Any who desire honest fair trade. It's THE issue above all that compiled Trump to politics - to finally stop being 'stupid' and give away our country's prosperity, heritage to China, which was result of treating wealth as only money and its manipulations. Wealth is the capacity of a nation to PRODUCE what it needs as a people for perpetuity, benefit, and security. Please look into PrometheanAction for the difference. Barbara Boyd and Mike Steger have also done new videos in last week (only 12 minutes of so) which explain current events so profoundly in this framework.

Dawn, I'm sincerely looking forward to experiencing this "drastic reduction in inflation" you reference...any day now...but so far, not so much.

Evangeline, Re: Russia/US make nice. The military/industrial/banking complex would be unhappy, because wars = profit. From their position, there's no money in peace. So, round and round we go...
