I can attest it was beautiful to watch. Gorgeous light displays and videos. I turned it on early before dinner just to get a feel for it and know how it looked. I stayed glued to my TV until 1:30 am!!! I am now a UFC fan. A 60 year old woman fell in love with an almost bare hand, totally bare feet, contact sport. It’s not at all like I thought it was, or anything like the others. The goal is not to pummel your opponent to be unrecognizable the way boxing sometimes is, which I can’t watch. It’s more tactical, skills based, self-control is so necessary - and the respect for your opponent and the rules of the sport were encouraging. I told my husband “you could say this is the fencing of hand to hand combat.” I loved the stories of each fighter before each match. They did such a good job giving you reasons to be interested in both fighters facing off.

I lost my breath on the Air Force flyover timed with the end of the anthem. The military choir was phenomenal all night.

Every single minute, every inch of the setup, meticulous to perfection. Patriotism was exploding.

Aging old woman signing off on her report … 😆

I love this commentary, Juju!

The perfect timing when singing the national anthem- Land of the Free, when the 10 jets of the USAF Thunderbirds and US Navy Blue Angels flew over, was perfect!

Joze's avatar

I don't care for petty grammar police or those correcting petty details but - I LOVE 12 Jets - so please consider this LIKING you post and just up'ing it by the actual 12; count'em again! 😘

Beckadee's avatar

Cool! Even better.

Graphite's avatar

Haha 😁 well so there are... I had to go back to the photo and count 🤣🇨🇦

Lisa Ricketts's avatar

These Elite flyers are always in groups of 6! As a kid, we would sit on the roof of our home and watch the Blue Angels, when they were in town every year! We also had a Lt. Commander as a neighbor!

Joze's avatar

Sounds like Pensacola - which I imagine would mean lots of "free" shows (air quotes because its one of the line items taxes pay for that I'll never regret).

Jealous! 😉 ... Think I've seen them 3 times: Traverse City, MI Cherry Festival, another airshow and the EAA flyin in Oshkosh, WI. - Best Airshow ever, if you like planes! Thanks for note!

Lisa Ricketts's avatar

Actually, the "Other" side of the Country. This was back when nearly every Father, and a few Grandfathers in every neighborhood were WWII or Korea Veterans!

Skeptical Actuary's avatar

Could anyone tell me what jets were? I don't know what they use these days.

The U.S. Navy Blue Angels (flying F/A-18 Super Hornets) and U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds (flying F-16 Fighting Falcons) performed a rare, joint, 12-jet formation “Super Delta” flyover

A separate U.S. Air Force B-1B Lancer (supersonic heavy bomber) flyover happened later in the evening around 10:30 my time (CST)

Yes, I had some ai help with that 🤣

Skeptical Actuary's avatar

That was going to be my first guess, but then I thought, No, they have probably gone to newer planes." I guess not!

I thought the one guy, after he won, said “Michelle Obama is a man” was funny. It didn’t sound like people cheered much. So I’m not sure based on tv volume if it landed or not. But it was funny he stuck that in there.

Juju's avatar

It was funny in the way we laugh when someone faceplants a bully into the mud and everyone looking on knows he deserved it, but are too conflicted to laugh or clap. Obama literally committed treason and divided this country in horrific ways, and is STILL doing so from the shadows, and he tried to destroy the one man (and his entire family) that stood in his way with evil lies, putting a target on their backs the rest of their lives. He deserves far worse than what this fighter said. Still, I prefer we continue to focus on our patriotism when on a stage like that, and leave the digs for social media.

RunningLogic's avatar

Agree with your assessment. Kind of an odd moment to say that, and I personally don’t like to indulge in that sort of insult. But after all of the horrible things the left has said about Melania, I can’t manage to muster up much indignation for anything that is said against *their* idols. Especially one who has complained bitterly about this country and her experience as FLOTUS.

Chi Zilla's avatar

Paula Kroll's avatar

I will be 78 in 2 weeks. I feel like 50! Still active, healthy and slender. I ride my horse in dressage lessons, do barn work, garden. The main thing I try to avoid is looking in the mirror.

LOL! My grandma used to tell us girls, "Life goes by faster than you know. I still feel like that 18 yr old girl inside - until I pass a mirror and some old lady is staring back at me!" She was 78 when she told us that.

Juju's avatar
Jun 16Edited

It really is surreal, isn’t it? What stares back at us? My spirit may feel beat up but it still feels young.

Linda Whitney's avatar

I’m fine with mirrors (usually), Juju.

It’s photographs I avoid! And in an age where everything must be documented on someone's invasive phone, it’s a tall order.

C. Wilson's avatar

I see myself regularly on TV news playing the bagpipes. I see it and wonder who that old lady is who's playing my pipes?

Juju's avatar

I had the MOST hilarious thing happen with our Tesla a few months ago. The Sentry system records all activity when your car is parked away from your home (it can record at home but I turned that setting off.) So I took our doggo to the vet one day. I checked the recent activity in the recordings and saw this older woman checking out our car, reaching out to touch the hood! When I got home I pulled my son into the car and was laughing, “look at this ‘old lady’, the nerve!” (I used a more colorful word…) He looks at the video and starts laughing, “mom that’s you!” I looked again and oh my goodness it was! It recorded me admiring my car as I came back out of the vet. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

We were laughing so hard, later that night going out to dinner we showed my husband and the three of us sat in that car a good 15 minutes laughing until tears were running down our faces. Best laugh I’ve had in a while.

I am definitely no spring chicken any more 😂😂

C. Wilson's avatar

That is funny. I don't want that much going on with my car. Both my car and his truck we think have the ability to be shut down by "them."

I have no smart devices in my home. IF/when the power goes off they are useless. We live where the power goes off now and then and is off for weeks after hurricanes. Our burglar alarm has a camera. I told the installer I did not want that. he said it wasn't hooked up. we have stickers over our computers and that camera. Every few days, my notification goes off with the photo of the back of that sticker on the alarm. We have no control over what it sees. It sees the back of a sticker. There's too much of this!

Lisa Ricketts's avatar

Our security cameras are more so wildlife camera. At 4:30 this morning, the one on the back patio was going off every few minutes because the deer were arriving to drink from our fountain.

RunningLogic's avatar

Oh my word, that is hilarious!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂

Fraulein Zen's avatar

I had the same experience when I smoked my last cigarette. I was never a regular smoker, but would have one every blue moon if I had a glass of red wine sitting outside. (Well, make that two.Two makes me nostalgic for my military time in Germany in the Nineties. The Germans then smoked like chimneys.) I caught a glimpse of myself in a window reflection. Yowza, a thirty year old babe puffing smoke holding a wine glass is so much sexier than a sixty year old with gray hair. I even had those cat butt wrinkles going when I sucked the filter! Cold turkey time, people. Not another puff for me!

Free in Florida's avatar

C. Wilson - you mean “older”. Not old. 😊

C. Wilson's avatar

Nope. I mean OLD! "Older" - than what? Dirt!!

Me, too! We're in California so didn't have to stay up as late, but it was my first MMA fight and I loved it. I did feel badly for Topuria because of his injuries. My husband and I prayed for healing; especially his eye, because he couldn't see out of it. I'm glad the corner reef called the fight finally.

Juju's avatar
Jun 15Edited

Yeah that was disturbing to see. The American fighter didn’t want to keep hitting him. He wanted it called in the 3rd round not because he wanted a faster win but because he cared about his opponent. A punch can cut one’s face, but a punch to a cut does far more damage. You could see his hesitation and how he tried to aim for other spots with the hits he had to get in during the 4th round. The relief was palpable in both his body language and the crowd when it was called. The other guy was a true warrior though, which is why he wanted to keep going. Unwise since he couldn’t see out his right eye for a bit at the end of R3.

But that’s why I respected this sport. I’ve seen many a boxer that had to be pulled off a man injured like that, and were in a crazy place. These fighters are not like that and I pray they never evolve to such animalistic behaviors.

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. Or what man is there among you who, when his son asks for a loaf, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, he will not give him a snake, will he? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give what is good to those who ask Him!”

Since yesterday was Flag Day, and to add to all the beautiful patriotism, I reshare this poem I prayerfully wrote on Election Day 2024 before the vote was finalized.

Dear Old Flag

Breathe easy, dear old flag

Your stars and stripes remain

To shine the light of freedom

Across the USA.

You’re rescued from the ashes

By those who take a stand;

Wave freely, dear old flag

Across our blessed land.

You’re proof to nations around the globe

That mankind can be free;

So wave forever, dear old flag,

And shine from sea to sea.

Instead, your comments consistently show that 100% of your attention is on only what and who you believe is wrong/terrible/no good, throwing snark at those you disagree with, and patting yourself on the back for your snarky and often nasty comments.

I’ve been around these parts a long time, and within the last few months more and more of you negative nellies have done your best to bring the tone of this intelligent and thoughtful commenting community down to your level.

Over the years, there have been and continue to be many comments that I could have contested or quarreled with, for a variety of reasons. Rather than attempt to prove that my POV is the right one, I just scroll past and examine what and why my POV is different.

I have continued to look at your comments to see if there is a shred of optimism in your words, and I have never seen it. It’s unfortunate…there is much good all around us, and it requires refocusing attention and energy to find it when the habitual thought pattern is to always see what isn’t working. I know this from firsthand experience.

There is a koan that I cannot find the original phrasing for that goes something like this: if all the world is ill, what is the medicine? [In the Buddhist school that uses koans as a practice, it is said that a koan cannot be resolved with the ordinary mind.] A late luminary whom few have heard of, Daya Mata, said this in one of her presentations: “A critical mind is the mortal enemy of inner peace.”

Too many TDS addled family and friends to count ... I am becoming increasingly invisible to them

Their doing ... not mine

Thank you. I know I’m not alone in this, it just makes me really sad. It’s just such a shame. Thank you for your words of comfort 🙏🏼

Check out this video I just saw on X about TDS. Terrific! (3:25)

Best thing ever. I’m having a great day today. 🥰. The stars are aligning and I’m alive to see it all!!!!!

FLGenX's avatar

This is FANTASTIC!! 🤩 Oh thank you so much!!! 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

Remember, that is not your vibe so ignore them!

Quiltlady's avatar

That's how I feel - Invisible, whenever I am around extended Family.

RunningLogic's avatar

It’s crazy how mean spirited they are! Plus I bet (but not Michelle’s Tahoe 😆) they have a “be kind” or “hate has no home here” sign on their lawn 🙄 Or a “Coexist” bumper sticker 🙄 It would never occur to me to text someone who I knew disagreed with me politically (or even whose views I wasn’t sure of) and make gleeful comments like that. It’s just so bizarre to me, how they act 😕

Karen Bandy's avatar

I was sitting next to a woman in the Seattle airport the other day. I said hello, where are you off to? Where are you from? Answer Clovis (extremely hot and probably red) Ca, to Victoria, rented a little house for the summer. Then she said she’ll keep her mouth shut and not tell the Canadians that she’s from the states like she did last year after Trump ‘ruined’ Canada with the tariffs, she doesn’t want to be blamed for him or to be associated with him.

I nodded and said, oh yes, that was a hard time for Canada, and then changed the subject. Completely neutral, right?

My thought was, why did she think I would automatically agree with her? Why the heck is ‘Trump’ almost one of the first words out of her mouth? Clovis, Victoria, Trump. Get a life lady, be thankful you can get out of the heat, and shut up while you’re at it.

FLGenX's avatar

It always surprises me that so many people think anyone will agree with them and their petty hatred. You’re right, it really is a bizarre phenomenon.

RunningLogic's avatar

Yes, this is so typical, they always bring it up at irrelevant moments and also expect everyone to agree 🙄

Valoree Dowell's avatar

And be grateful for being entitled. Spending the summer in Victoria in a little rented house. Again. She prolly lets "unhoused" migrant workers stay in her home in Clovis. Right?

Lisa Ricketts's avatar

Clovis is a beautiful little town that hosts a great Rodeo! Sadly, over the years, housing sprawl has replaced ranches and farms. But the school district is sought after, and you are never far from a lake if you enjoy boating.

Victoria is also beautiful, but a bit more like being in Scotland, than a typical beach vacation.

Karen Bandy's avatar

She went to get out of the heat. There are other pretty places on the CA coast, you’re right.

Karen Bandy's avatar

I bet she does 🤣

Barbara ( Portlander😵‍💫)'s avatar

Right? I have been tempted to knock on the door of houses that have that “hate has no home here”. Who are. The real haters

RunningLogic's avatar

Their “no hate” comes with an asterisk… 🙄

Alice Ball's avatar

Yes Running Logic, we all recognize this behavior bc they all do it & with the exact same attitude and complete lack of awareness while they do it. They assume everyone they talk to agrees with them.

FLGenX's avatar

Exactly! We text all the time about sports, I don’t bring up politics, so he’s just goading me and being disrespectful.

AND YES, they have all the signs in their yard 🙄 😂

RunningLogic's avatar

Well maybe I *should* have bet Michelle’s Tahoe! 😁😆

Jan's avatar

Even my TDS sister doesn’t rub it in, but then she can’t see what’s really going on either so it’s wasted emotional turmoil. Sad.

Lisa Ricketts's avatar

I think most of the adult female Trump haters don't really pay attention to politics and the issues, economy, etc. They tend to say "....he's a pig because of what he said about grabbing a woman's...". Lol, I guess they don't ever listen to their husbands talk about the woman next door with the dental floss bikini! Somehow, they give that a pass.

Dena's avatar

You can do both - walk away for your peace of mind & continue to pray.

ViaVeritasVita's avatar

That is just what I have chosen to do. But I did finally(get up courage to) tell cousin that I found her "disdainful attitude, a feature of those calling themselves 'progressives' " offensive. Buh-bye. And yes, I lift up her name in prayer each morning, that she may see the Light. She's in her mid-80's, so....

God tells us not to associate closely with people like that who clearly are controlled by the evil one. Praying for God’s wisdom and blessings for you! ❤️🙏

Just pray that the sheer overwhelming goodness of God begins to bring life to their troubled hearts.

They need it!

We are all being played. This is the dialectic intentionally causing division and strife within the American base. People just don't get it, on either side. We are under attack and dividing us is an intentional strategy used to defeat us. While we are at 'war' with each other, we are oblivious to the real enemy and how they are attacking us. Make no mistake: America is the target. Iran and the UFC show are the distraction.

Politico Phil's avatar

When the Roman Empire was in the process of being conquered by the "barbarians", the Roman people were clueless. They were distracted by the "bread and circus" of the coliseum (where incidentally the real Christians were fed to the lions) which was a real blood sport, their worship of Caesar as god and the glory of their Empire. Trump has already memed himself as a Christ figure and the patriotic glory of the UFC spectacle could not have been more perfectly scripted for the American or Roman people.

War is, first and foremost, an information war! And the people under attack can never be allowed to see the actual war being waged behind the mesmerizing spectacle of God, Glory and Patriotism. It just FEELS too good to not believe the show.

The Roman people, a proud people that ruled the known world with justice and equity for a millennia, never recovered from their fall. They even lost their identity as Romans and today Italy is a quaint, second rate European nation whose people have no idea what the Roman Empire was other than the ancient ruins that still dot their landscape.

Way to capture all the winning and patriotism💪🇺🇸

Since Michelle fortunately hasn’t lost her Tahoe yet in spite of Jeff’s seemingly reckless betting addiction, she will hopefully enjoy long-lasting gas pain relief when filling it up 😂🏅

They aren't very practical when it comes to maneuvering in and out of a Trader Joe's Parking lot, with all the compact parking spaces, but they sure are great road trip vehicles.

Thank you for another masterpiece Jeff Childers. God blessed all of us this weekend. Unless you subscribe to LibIdiot ideas, the 6-14-26 day of multiple triumphs is a Win-Win on so many different levels. God Bless America 🇺🇸 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
