As a larger cultural group, I don’t believe “churches” are fulfilling this sacred task, but there are many incredible individuals (like Jeff Childers!) and smaller contingents who are following in the steps of David, Daniel, Esther, Stephen, Paul and other notable biblical examples, and standing against the tide. We pray for them and for strength and courage for more to stand as well.

I just heard a terrific interview on Frank Turek's "I Don't Have Enough Faith To Be An Atheist" podcast with Megan Basham; they discussed her book "Shepherds For Sale" and I find it shocking how many well known Evangelical pastors have sold out to this very woke culture. In the separation of the Methodist Church (Global vs United) it came down to money. The UMC churches outside the US said they wanted nothing to do with the LGBTQ+ agenda that was taking hold in the UMC churches in the US. The US UMC churches had to increase revenue so tapped the LGBTQ+ population in hopes of adding to the role$. The result was two Methodist Churches: Global (traditional in the US and worldwide) and United (LGBTQ+ embracing, US based).
The Disunited Methodist Church is losing members in my town ... many are landing in our PCA church, where they find preaching and teaching that is true to the gospel message, not to the delusions of man.
Just a few old members at my former UMC. 4 children. The pews used to be full. Sermons sound like seminary school retreads. I couldn’t take it anymore, especially when masks came back on even after everyone (except me) was vaxxed.
One church here that membership voted to stay United has a pastor that will not follow the wishes of the members. He is tightrope walking just to keep ‘his’ church, or rather his place in that church.
We left the Disciples of Christ after 35 years because they had gone completely woke. Many of their congregations have so few members left they can't keep their buildings & have sold them. We landed in a great Bible teaching Baptist church & absolutely love it! We have baptized countless Methodists, Presbyterians, Episcopalians, etc. Our membership has skyrocketed since May 2015 when gay marriage was passed. Our budget stresses missions & we support more missions than employees. We're bursting at the seams! People are hungry for the word! You are correct, and this ideology goes back a long way. I’m not a Catholic and did not quite realize how much that church was captured by a ‘social gospel theology’ until recently. I watched some of the series “Call the Midwife’; it was an eye opener! The series begins in the late ‘50s and early ’60s, and the socialist policies of Britain as a country, and the complicit doctrines of the Catholic Church are proudly on display in that production. It’s easy to see that the “church” in that setting is no more than an arm of a socialist government.
Remember that Call the Midwife is made by the very corrupt, very gay friendly and woke BBC. The first series was based on a memoir of the same name that is a very based piece of writing by a district nurse who wasn’t a nun, only based in the nunnery from around the mid 1950s. I stopped watching anything on the bbc from 2016, but even before then the series was being corrupted by woke.
BBC, CNN, CBC: these are out to destroy basic Christian principles and encourage left-wing extremism, which means to celebrate all immorality. Avoid these media and if you have youngsters, let them know that whatever is shown or produced by those corrupt media is not intended for a healthful lifestyle.

To its core, the Catholic Church itself rejects social gospel theology or what I’m assuming you are referring to! When you go into what the Catholic Church really is and really teaches it very much aligns with conservative and more traditional views of family and life and society. It’s the people of the church or outside the church who have taken those tenets and warped them or misunderstood them. The Catholic Church teaching at the core are very beautiful and good.

The Catholic Church was indeed captured by the social gospel theology, though I don’t think as strongly as most Protestant churches. But I’m seeing now very robust pockets in the church pushing back and rejecting these ideas for the true Catholic faith. They are the everyday people and not the leadership of the church, though there are some in leadership who are fighting it. Lots of new priests are too. There is hope and there is change going on. It just takes time.
I know someone from C&C who is Catholic and can tell you horror stories of what the Catholic Church has done to almost 20 priests up in the Chicago Diocese. It’s criminal! And yet these priests who stood up for what was right instead of bowing to the corruption within the church, are strong and are staying and fighting. My friend is the same way. Wide awake and sickened by the evil corruption within but not willing to leave and roll over. She’s is fighting. I don’t agree with all things Catholic but the good ones are conservative Jesus loving people who know the Bible. I’m glad they are fighting.

For sheer entertainment value, it’s well done. The acting and story lines are often heartbreaking. And as every episode deals with midwives delivering babies, it’s especially touching to a female audience. I enjoyed so much of it and loved some of the characters, but was turned off by their sympathetic portrayal of gays; it’s on Netflix so you’d expect that. At least it was “tastefully” done. But I canceled Netflix after their donation to Kamala. 😂
We love that series and look beyond the socialist bent. It is Great Britain after all. The characters make the show, not so much the ideologies, for us. It portrays what life was like after the war, there was a lot of social change in that period, for better or for worse and good medical breakthroughs. Bad ones too like Thalidomide. The main doctor character put two and two together on that one. Anyway, it’s worth watching, I’ve often cried watching it.
In many episodes you can look past it, as the show is splendidly done and is a window on sharply evolving history commencing in the 50’s. We can view the social justice gospel slowly infiltrate the community. And because there is deep poverty we see the problem of hard cases making bad laws.
And the religion represented here is Anglican, not Catholic. Catholicism doesn’t support birth control, homosexuality(it DOES love the dignity and worth of the homosexual person, not the lifestyle) and euthanasia like this series depicts. Plus the buns never celebrate mass, you know it’s not Catholicism!

Catholic Church has not been “taken over by the democrats,” but unfaithful prominent democrat “Catholics” such as OBiden, Pelosi and others “preach” their cafeteria Catholicism. They either have no idea what they are talking about or are using the garden serpent’s tactics to get people to fall.
No church is perfect. The current pope, certain cardinals and bishops (US and other countries’) are advocating some shameful heresies but God’s biblical and His apostolic Teachings have not changed and cannot change, no matter what humans in the hierarchy or politicians say.
Regardless of the current pope silencing good cardinals, bishops and priests, and restricting worship services, God will prevail. The large but unnoticed faithful remnant have put the Catholic Church back on course in the past when it strays from the Teachings and will continue to when politicians, popes, and cardinals go astray.

there was a time that satan had me so boxed in self hatred, loathing, perfectionism, a complete false self I put out to others, that I COULD NOT think of one good thing about myself or life! It took many dear patient friends to help me think of even silly little things and learn or re-learn counting blessings and how to become grateful...the more you see, the more they manifest.
I learned a VERY important lesson in "spiritual warfare" while participating in a home-based Bible study group. I always (prior to this home study group) believed that once you accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal Savior, that you could NOT be afflicted by Lucifer or his minions. Well...I learned I was WRONG - Christians can still be afflicted by demonic activities assaulting our MINDS and HEARTS....BUT...we CANNOT BE INDWELT by these satanic forces anymore because the HOLY SPIRIT dwells within us. That "set me straight" once and for all!!
I also remember that when I feel evil near to rebuke it in the name of jesus! and they must leave. I tell ppl to do this when they are alone and sense fear or an imagination comes over them(ppl should stop watching crap movies and tv in general...it plants 'demons' in your mind) esp demonic, haunted house type nonsense....they're just inviting self-torture

In last 6-8 weeks I have moved from reading only in 1611 KJV, to adding 1649 Giovanni Diodati and 1911 Louis Segond. I've been discussing in the comments recently the modern church's confusion between "nice" and "kind". Nice is a manner of dealing with people that doesn't upset them, kind is acting in a manner that looks out for other's well-being. The Bible says we are to be kind, as far as I can tell the word nice is never used.
If we can act in a nice manner (e.g. polite) then by all means we should PROVIDED we don't do so at the expense of truth. The modern church has turned this on it's head, saying that being nice is *more important* than truth. This is a lie from the pit of hell and is at the core of the rot in our churches.
Every one of these leftist ideas being pushed in the church that Meg Basham documents uses this confusion to it's advantage. It's nice to not say homosexuality (or any sexual immorality) is wrong as it might upset people. It's nice to pretend a man is a woman as it makes that person feel good. It's nice to say all immigrants are welcome as that makes people feel virtuous.
But are any of these things kind? Is it kind to people to lie to them and enable a sexual delusion that will destroy their lives? Is it kind to bring in immigrants with zero vetting thus enabling human trafficking, adding people to the welfare dependency roles (that others must pay for without their permission), depressing wages for the native population, and potentially increasing the number of crime victims? Yes it makes do-gooders feel good (nice), but is it kind?
Because most churchgoers really don't know their Bible, they are easily manipulated by pastors that obfuscate these two things. Some of the pastors mean well but are misguided. Others (as Meg Basham documents) are wolves in sheep's clothing. It's a big reason the Catholic Church is now the world's biggest social justice, human trafficking organization. It's the reason many evangelical megachurches are now just Sunday rock concerts followed by forty minutes of pop-psychology virtue signaling.
People need to go back to their Bibles and study them as this stuff is pretty clearly spelled out in the Word. When one knows the Bible, they don't fall for emotional manipulation that lays down a guilt trip about being "nice" while at the same time wallowing in smug self-righteousness about how good people think they are. When they see this happening in their church, they should get up and walk out. Biblical truth is more important than not offending people.
If your church isn't teaching the Bible, chapter by chapter, verse by verse, then I really urge you to consider if it's the right church. Expository teaching makes it much more difficult for pastors to cherry pick verses out of context and twist them to an agenda. And this stuff is everywhere, it's counterfeit Christianity just as the Bible foretells.
Yes. In fact the root of "nice" culture is based in fear, that someone might be mad at them. Being kind sometimes, maybe often, means unpleasant actions. Telling one's alcoholic, drug addict child (as an example) that no, you aren't going to pay their rent isn't easy. They will likely throw a fit, call names, and try every emotional manipulation trick in the book. It's still the kind thing to do.

I agree, that's the heart of it. But I think there's something much more sinister going on. People are being taught a false gospel that deliberately uses psychological manipulation techniques to stroke people's emotions with false guilt and ersatz virtue. This isn't organic IMO. IMO many churches misinterpret scripture and have used prophetic passages to justify idolatry regarding the modern secular Israeli state (i.e. Dispensationalism). This statement explains why that interpretation is wrong, with scripture reference footnotes.
I long believed this Dispensational interpretation myself but came to believe it was in error, largely because I could not reconcile Israeli state's actions with Christ's commands to be kind to each other. I don't support either side in the current massacre, but pray for peace.
Dispensationalism is also at odds with historical Christianity and is directly contradicted by the writings of the great theologians of the ages (e.g. Augustine, Apollos, John Crysostom, Aquinas, Luther, Knox, etc.) and of course the writings of Paul himself in the Bible. It only gained prominence since 1909 with the publication of the Scofield Reference Bible. Scofield's life and how his Bible came to be published is also quite the rathole worth looking into.
I'm not a fan of denominations in general as I think they needlessly split the body, quibbling over secondary and tertiary doctrines. That being said, Reformed Baptist most closely describes my beliefs in the mold of the great Charles Spurgeon. The PCA *statement of beliefs* is very good, and very closely matches what I've come to believe the Bible clearly says. It holds to biblical truth without veering into adding stuff to it (e.g. Catholicism) or over interpreting it (Christian Zionism).
The problem the PCA has (as does the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod) is that many within those bodies don't seem to agree with their own church's statement of beliefs. Rather than leaving the PCA or LCMS and joining a more liberal body, these people continually attack the church from within trying to force it into modernist views. The leadership for whatever reason don't have the courage of conviction to expel these people. So there is a never ending battle to stay true to Biblical truth, which distracts from the reason people should be there in the first place, to glorify God.
We've seen what happens to Protestant denominations that decide the Bible is no longer the inerrant Word of God, they go batpoop crazy. Look at the PCUSA and ELCA as glaring examples. My concern is that unless the PCA leadership makes crystal clear that there will be no compromise, it's just a matter of time until it gets pulled leftward.
Theologians can get it wrong for sure and when I questioned my pastor, he wouldn't consider any other "doctrine" than what he was trained to understand. For instance, the trinity... That word is not used in the Bible, but it is used satanically so that is a red flag to me... They say they are equal but they are not. Only God the Father knows everything and the other 2 are parts that do certain jobs, but they are not equal IMHO. I read scripture and came to that conclusion myself. I don't care or want to quibble about it, but don't teach it as fact when there is evidence it is not. We are to study ourselves, not agree with what we are told.
Scofield had a seedy history but a lot of Biblical men did too. However, the free Scofield Bibles issued to the seminaries with special footnotes about the "chosen" from Rockefeller changed the view about the chosen and they have done it by controlling history and other ways as well.

I just saw a tv clip from Israel with a poll question: is it permissible to rape a Palestinian prisoner? 47% answered yes, 44% answered no. This controversy was in response to the gang rape of a Palestinian man by nine IDF soldiers which left him with a torn anus and need for hospitalization. The soldiers were placed in detention and there were riots by Israeli citizens to forcibly free them. Israel has lost any moral high ground they once had. And we cheer them on.

Yup, some people are definitely hypocrites and are great at saying but not doing. But that's a problem with them not the Bible.
My larger point was the only way to not fall for a lie is to know the truth. People know the truth by reading the Bible and asking for guidance from the Holy Spirit. If people don't know the Bible then anything that sounds all warm and fuzzy will feel good and can lead them astray. And that's what's happening in many churches right now.
Speak the truth but in a spirit of love is about as simple as it gets.
We had to go through the "nice vs kind" thing semi-recently. Had a young lady who was insisting that she was a boy and my wife quite graciously told her that she was made as a young lady by a God who loved her and did not make some mistake. I doubt the message was received well, but it needed to be said. Didn't help that she fits the big pattern of being on some psychotropics in addition to going through the rest of this craziness and has family affirming her choice. :( They've all been hurt by the church in the past and it shows, but I think some of that is the church being honest.
The church definitely needs to practice that love in the form of telling the truth while loving and not trying to tip-toe around sin and sensitive cultural topics.
Thanks for posting this and you mention something I've been thinking about lately. I've heard this "hurt by the church" statement many times myself and people just seem to take it at face value, as if the church needlessly goes around maliciously harming people. Obviously there are people who have been truly hurt by people claiming to act in Jesus' name (priest molestation scandal is a huge one) so I'm not talking about that.
But how many of these people's "hurt" is really just their feelings or pride? I'm sure the addict son whose mom finally stops enabling him also thinks he's been hurt by his mother. But has he? Of course not. The truth hurts is a bit of a cliché, but like most clichés it makes a valid point at it's core. Telling someone the truth will often make them upset and resentful, thus resulting in them thinking they've been "hurt by the church".
My pastor is always teaching how we must be truthful but with a loving spirit. The loving part is hard for me as it angers me to see people destroying their lives. But he's right, and hopefully I'll do better on this as I don't want people pointing to me as an example of someone in the church who hurt them (if it can be avoided). But I do have concerns that people will be afraid to speak the truth if they view other's feelings are the priority. That's the whole genesis of the "nice" problem.
There are definitely different levels of "hurt". There are the "my feelings/pride are hurt" and a solid pastor will not apologize for that if those people were offended by the true word of God. But there are sadly those who were hurt by abuse within the church by people in authority and it was covered up, swept under the rug, or passed along without a word far too often - lest there be some sort of scandal. Those days are largely over, but even now it's really hard to get those people with "suspicions of abuse never proved" out of ministry.
Sadly, I do know of churches who had that sort of abuse happen. Even with all of the safeguards, cameras, multiple registered/checked adults - the abusers found a way to skirt those at just the right times to mess with kids. I chatted with the people who were still on staff at the church just after it happened. They were sick and angry and annoyed that even with a really, really high number of safeguards ... it still happened.
See also the BSA - _way_ too many tales that have come out from times in the 1980's era. I had a great time in that organization and never saw/experienced it, but there were definitely some who did and never saw any real justice. :(
But yes - being "nice" over being loving/truthful does not lead to a good witness.

I am a member of one of the largest evangelical churches in the US. So far, the teaching has remained absolutely Bible-based. I pray it continues. I see so much heresy in so many churches.
We have some Indian friends (from the country of India) and they made the point that so many missionaries have failed to take the true gospel to other countries. It' very sad.

I just bought it for my friend the evangelical minister, who is centered on the Bible. The hardback, before taxes, was $22.66. Too bad Bezos, who should have been left out in space, didn't try to extract another 6/10's of a cent. That would've been perfect lol. Got the 2 in though.
To be fair - a lot of libraries will respond pretty positively to patron requests, if only because so few people tend to request new materials. No requests means they're more free to spend their budgets on other nonsense like the current SJW topic of the day or books praising the political leaders of their choice. (So many books praising Obama and his ilk popped up in various sections over the last couple of years.) But most librarians tend to honor patron requests because someone took the time to actually request a book.
Not over here in wokeland. I requested "What the Nurses Saw" and was told that since it had not been reviewed in any "publications," and not recommended by their medical "experts," and no other public library had it, they weren't going to get it. (Subsequently I have found a few public libraries elsewhere who do have it.) I suppose the experts who should have recommended it would be crime and politics, not medical.
Sad, but I guess not surprising. Some librarians will use that position to push back on anything that doesn't fit their worldview, but most aren't quite that bad. But the whole "no other public library had it" is a horrible argument against a book. How does a book ever get in if that's a criteria? :/

Well I agree with the spirit of what you are saying but conceding is not the same thing as transferring power. Conceding to the results of an election is different than transferring any power. So you’re right, there will be no problem with the transfer of Trump loses, but Biden is worried he and we won’t concede the victory. And he is right especially since he is speaking in post-election phrasing already. Smacks of inside trading knowledge.

A lot depends on whether one believes in the literal rebuilding of The Temple and the literal geopolitical Israel or if one believes, as Paul seems to teach, that in Christ all who believe are children of Abraham - not physically but spiritually. In which case The Church is Israel. Not literally but spiritually.
N.T. Wright, although not speaking explicitly directly to End Times, helpfully discusses this view of Church/Israel. He can be quite wordy, so reading his Everyman commentaries on the books of the NT is probably the best way to start reading him.

In the separation of the Methodist Church (Global vs United) it came down to money. The UMC churches outside the US said they wanted nothing to do with the LGBTQ+ agenda that was taking hold in the UMC churches in the US. The US UMC churches had to increase revenue so tapped the LGBTQ+ population in hopes of adding to the role$. The result was two Methodist Churches: Global (traditional in the US and worldwide) and United (LGBTQ+ embracing, US based).
The Disunited Methodist Church is losing members in my town ... many are landing in our PCA church, where they find preaching and teaching that is true to the gospel message, not to the delusions of man.
Just a few old members at my former UMC. 4 children. The pews used to be full. Sermons sound like seminary school retreads. I couldn’t take it anymore, especially when masks came back on even after everyone (except me) was vaxxed.
One church here that membership voted to stay United has a pastor that will not follow the wishes of the members. He is tightrope walking just to keep ‘his’ church, or rather his place in that church.
I left my UMC. I want a more conservative church. I began my Christian journey in a nondenominational conservative church 35 years ago so I’m looking.
We left the Disciples of Christ after 35 years because they had gone completely woke. Many of their congregations have so few members left they can't keep their buildings & have sold them. We landed in a great Bible teaching Baptist church & absolutely love it! We have baptized countless Methodists, Presbyterians, Episcopalians, etc. Our membership has skyrocketed since May 2015 when gay marriage was passed. Our budget stresses missions & we support more missions than employees. We're bursting at the seams! People are hungry for the word! You are correct, and this ideology goes back a long way. I’m not a Catholic and did not quite realize how much that church was captured by a ‘social gospel theology’ until recently. I watched some of the series “Call the Midwife’; it was an eye opener! The series begins in the late ‘50s and early ’60s, and the socialist policies of Britain as a country, and the complicit doctrines of the Catholic Church are proudly on display in that production. It’s easy to see that the “church” in that setting is no more than an arm of a socialist government.
Remember that Call the Midwife is made by the very corrupt, very gay friendly and woke BBC. The first series was based on a memoir of the same name that is a very based piece of writing by a district nurse who wasn’t a nun, only based in the nunnery from around the mid 1950s. I stopped watching anything on the bbc from 2016, but even before then the series was being corrupted by woke.
BBC, CNN, CBC: these are out to destroy basic Christian principles and encourage left-wing extremism, which means to celebrate all immorality. Avoid these media and if you have youngsters, let them know that whatever is shown or produced by those corrupt media is not intended for a healthful lifestyle.

To its core, the Catholic Church itself rejects social gospel theology or what I’m assuming you are referring to! When you go into what the Catholic Church really is and really teaches it very much aligns with conservative and more traditional views of family and life and society. It’s the people of the church or outside the church who have taken those tenets and warped them or misunderstood them. The Catholic Church teaching at the core are very beautiful and good.

I was going to say this too! I thought it was Catholic at first as well, but they are in fact Anglican nuns in the show.
The Catholic Church was indeed captured by the social gospel theology, though I don’t think as strongly as most Protestant churches. But I’m seeing now very robust pockets in the church pushing back and rejecting these ideas for the true Catholic faith. They are the everyday people and not the leadership of the church, though there are some in leadership who are fighting it. Lots of new priests are too. There is hope and there is change going on. It just takes time.
I know someone from C&C who is Catholic and can tell you horror stories of what the Catholic Church has done to almost 20 priests up in the Chicago Diocese. It’s criminal! And yet these priests who stood up for what was right instead of bowing to the corruption within the church, are strong and are staying and fighting. My friend is the same way. Wide awake and sickened by the evil corruption within but not willing to leave and roll over. She’s is fighting. I don’t agree with all things Catholic but the good ones are conservative Jesus loving people who know the Bible. I’m glad they are fighting.

For sheer entertainment value, it’s well done. The acting and story lines are often heartbreaking. And as every episode deals with midwives delivering babies, it’s especially touching to a female audience. I enjoyed so much of it and loved some of the characters, but was turned off by their sympathetic portrayal of gays; it’s on Netflix so you’d expect that. At least it was “tastefully” done. But I canceled Netflix after their donation to Kamala. 😂

We love that series and look beyond the socialist bent. It is Great Britain after all. The characters make the show, not so much the ideologies, for us. It portrays what life was like after the war, there was a lot of social change in that period, for better or for worse and good medical breakthroughs. Bad ones too like Thalidomide. The main doctor character put two and two together on that one. Anyway, it’s worth watching, I’ve often cried watching it.

The Detectorists is a great show. British and an easy watch.
In many episodes you can look past it, as the show is splendidly done and is a window on sharply evolving history commencing in the 50’s. We can view the social justice gospel slowly infiltrate the community. And because there is deep poverty we see the problem of hard cases making bad laws.
And the religion represented here is Anglican, not Catholic. Catholicism doesn’t support birth control, homosexuality(it DOES love the dignity and worth of the homosexual person, not the lifestyle) and euthanasia like this series depicts. Plus the buns never celebrate mass, you know it’s not Catholicism!

I always (prior to this home study group) believed that once you accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal Savior, that you could NOT be afflicted by Lucifer or his minions. Well...I learned I was WRONG - Christians can still be afflicted by demonic activities assaulting our MINDS and HEARTS....BUT...we CANNOT BE INDWELT by these satanic forces anymore because the HOLY SPIRIT dwells within us. That "set me straight" once and for all!!

In last 6-8 weeks I have moved from reading only in 1611 KJV, to adding 1649 Giovanni Diodati and 1911 Louis Segond. Reading each verse, often even just one clause at a time, in 3 tongues is giving me so much deeper understanding (quite aside from strengthening my command of those tongues).

I've been discussing in the comments recently the modern church's confusion between "nice" and "kind". Nice is a manner of dealing with people that doesn't upset them, kind is acting in a manner that looks out for other's well-being. The Bible says we are to be kind, as far as I can tell the word nice is never used.
If we can act in a nice manner (e.g. polite) then by all means we should PROVIDED we don't do so at the expense of truth. The modern church has turned this on it's head, saying that being nice is *more important* than truth. This is a lie from the pit of hell and is at the core of the rot in our churches.
Every one of these leftist ideas being pushed in the church that Meg Basham documents uses this confusion to it's advantage. It's nice to not say homosexuality (or any sexual immorality) is wrong as it might upset people. It's nice to pretend a man is a woman as it makes that person feel good. It's nice to say all immigrants are welcome as that makes people feel virtuous.
But are any of these things kind? Is it kind to people to lie to them and enable a sexual delusion that will destroy their lives? Is it kind to bring in immigrants with zero vetting thus enabling human trafficking, adding people to the welfare dependency roles (that others must pay for without their permission), depressing wages for the native population, and potentially increasing the number of crime victims? Yes it makes do-gooders feel good (nice), but is it kind?
Because most churchgoers really don't know their Bible, they are easily manipulated by pastors that obfuscate these two things. Some of the pastors mean well but are misguided. Others (as Meg Basham documents) are wolves in sheep's clothing. It's a big reason the Catholic Church is now the world's biggest social justice, human trafficking organization. It's the reason many evangelical megachurches are now just Sunday rock concerts followed by forty minutes of pop-psychology virtue signaling.
People need to go back to their Bibles and study them as this stuff is pretty clearly spelled out in the Word. When one knows the Bible, they don't fall for emotional manipulation that lays down a guilt trip about being "nice" while at the same time wallowing in smug self-righteousness about how good people think they are. When they see this happening in their church, they should get up and walk out. Biblical truth is more important than not offending people.
If your church isn't teaching the Bible, chapter by chapter, verse by verse, then I really urge you to consider if it's the right church. Expository teaching makes it much more difficult for pastors to cherry pick verses out of context and twist them to an agenda. And this stuff is everywhere, it's counterfeit Christianity just as the Bible foretells.

Yes. In fact the root of "nice" culture is based in fear, that someone might be mad at them. Being kind sometimes, maybe often, means unpleasant actions. Telling one's alcoholic, drug addict child (as an example) that no, you aren't going to pay their rent isn't easy. They will likely throw a fit, call names, and try every emotional manipulation trick in the book. It's still the kind thing to do.
Back in the day, being pilloried / imprisoned / stoned to death was a badge of honor, earned by those who stood firm in their faith.

IMO many churches misinterpret scripture and have used prophetic passages to justify idolatry regarding the modern secular Israeli state (i.e. Dispensationalism). This statement explains why that interpretation is wrong, with scripture reference footnotes.
I long believed this Dispensational interpretation myself but came to believe it was in error, largely because I could not reconcile Israeli state's actions with Christ's commands to be kind to each other. I don't support either side in the current massacre, but pray for peace.
Dispensationalism is also at odds with historical Christianity and is directly contradicted by the writings of the great theologians of the ages (e.g. Augustine, Apollos, John Crysostom, Aquinas, Luther, Knox, etc.) and of course the writings of Paul himself in the Bible. It only gained prominence since 1909 with the publication of the Scofield Reference Bible. Scofield's life and how his Bible came to be published is also quite the rathole worth looking into.
Well-stated. You echo our PCA pastor who often points to Paul's warnings that "not all Israel is Israel", or spiritual descendants of Abraham.
I'm not a fan of denominations in general as I think they needlessly split the body, quibbling over secondary and tertiary doctrines. That being said, Reformed Baptist most closely describes my beliefs in the mold of the great Charles Spurgeon. The PCA *statement of beliefs* is very good, and very closely matches what I've come to believe the Bible clearly says. It holds to biblical truth without veering into adding stuff to it (e.g. Catholicism) or over interpreting it (Christian Zionism).
The problem the PCA has (as does the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod) is that many within those bodies don't seem to agree with their own church's statement of beliefs. Rather than leaving the PCA or LCMS and joining a more liberal body, these people continually attack the church from within trying to force it into modernist views. The leadership for whatever reason don't have the courage of conviction to expel these people. So there is a never ending battle to stay true to Biblical truth, which distracts from the reason people should be there in the first place, to glorify God.
We've seen what happens to Protestant denominations that decide the Bible is no longer the inerrant Word of God, they go batpoop crazy. Look at the PCUSA and ELCA as glaring examples. My concern is that unless the PCA leadership makes crystal clear that there will be no compromise, it's just a matter of time until it gets pulled leftward.
Theologians can get it wrong for sure and when I questioned my pastor, he wouldn't consider any other "doctrine" than what he was trained to understand. For instance, the trinity... That word is not used in the Bible, but it is used satanically so that is a red flag to me... They say they are equal but they are not. Only God the Father knows everything and the other 2 are parts that do certain jobs, but they are not equal IMHO. I read scripture and came to that conclusion myself. I don't care or want to quibble about it, but don't teach it as fact when there is evidence it is not. We are to study ourselves, not agree with what we are told.
Scofield had a seedy history but a lot of Biblical men did too. However, the free Scofield Bibles issued to the seminaries with special footnotes about the "chosen" from Rockefeller changed the view about the chosen and they have done it by controlling history and other ways as well.

I just saw a tv clip from Israel with a poll question: is it permissible to rape a Palestinian prisoner? 47% answered yes, 44% answered no. This controversy was in response to the gang rape of a Palestinian man by nine IDF soldiers which left him with a torn anus and need for hospitalization. The soldiers were placed in detention and there were riots by Israeli citizens to forcibly free them. Israel has lost any moral high ground they once had. And we cheer them on.

I have known many professing Christians who spout Bible verses prolificly and yet exhibit NONE of the compassion and humility that our Lord Jesus Christ exhibited while sojourning with us, His poor, lost sheep.

Yup, some people are definitely hypocrites and are great at saying but not doing. But that's a problem with them not the Bible.
My larger point was the only way to not fall for a lie is to know the truth. People know the truth by reading the Bible and asking for guidance from the Holy Spirit. If people don't know the Bible then anything that sounds all warm and fuzzy will feel good and can lead them astray. And that's what's happening in many churches right now.
Speak the truth but in a spirit of love is about as simple as it gets.
We had to go through the "nice vs kind" thing semi-recently. Had a young lady who was insisting that she was a boy and my wife quite graciously told her that she was made as a young lady by a God who loved her and did not make some mistake. I doubt the message was received well, but it needed to be said. Didn't help that she fits the big pattern of being on some psychotropics in addition to going through the rest of this craziness and has family affirming her choice. :( They've all been hurt by the church in the past and it shows, but I think some of that is the church being honest.
The church definitely needs to practice that love in the form of telling the truth while loving and not trying to tip-toe around sin and sensitive cultural topics.
Thanks for posting this and you mention something I've been thinking about lately. I've heard this "hurt by the church" statement many times myself and people just seem to take it at face value, as if the church needlessly goes around maliciously harming people. Obviously there are people who have been truly hurt by people claiming to act in Jesus' name (priest molestation scandal is a huge one) so I'm not talking about that.
But how many of these people's "hurt" is really just their feelings or pride? I'm sure the addict son whose mom finally stops enabling him also thinks he's been hurt by his mother. But has he? Of course not. The truth hurts is a bit of a cliché, but like most clichés it makes a valid point at it's core. Telling someone the truth will often make them upset and resentful, thus resulting in them thinking they've been "hurt by the church".
My pastor is always teaching how we must be truthful but with a loving spirit. The loving part is hard for me as it angers me to see people destroying their lives. But he's right, and hopefully I'll do better on this as I don't want people pointing to me as an example of someone in the church who hurt them (if it can be avoided). But I do have concerns that people will be afraid to speak the truth if they view other's feelings are the priority. That's the whole genesis of the "nice" problem.
There are definitely different levels of "hurt". There are the "my feelings/pride are hurt" and a solid pastor will not apologize for that if those people were offended by the true word of God. But there are sadly those who were hurt by abuse within the church by people in authority and it was covered up, swept under the rug, or passed along without a word far too often - lest there be some sort of scandal. Those days are largely over, but even now it's really hard to get those people with "suspicions of abuse never proved" out of ministry.
Sadly, I do know of churches who had that sort of abuse happen. Even with all of the safeguards, cameras, multiple registered/checked adults - the abusers found a way to skirt those at just the right times to mess with kids. I chatted with the people who were still on staff at the church just after it happened. They were sick and angry and annoyed that even with a really, really high number of safeguards ... it still happened.
See also the BSA - _way_ too many tales that have come out from times in the 1980's era. I had a great time in that organization and never saw/experienced it, but there were definitely some who did and never saw any real justice. :(
But yes - being "nice" over being loving/truthful does not lead to a good witness.

I am a member of one of the largest evangelical churches in the US. So far, the teaching has remained absolutely Bible-based. I pray it continues. I see so much heresy in so many churches.
We have some Indian friends (from the country of India) and they made the point that so many missionaries have failed to take the true gospel to other countries. It' very sad.

To be fair - a lot of libraries will respond pretty positively to patron requests, if only because so few people tend to request new materials. No requests means they're more free to spend their budgets on other nonsense like the current SJW topic of the day or books praising the political leaders of their choice. (So many books praising Obama and his ilk popped up in various sections over the last couple of years.) But most librarians tend to honor patron requests because someone took the time to actually request a book.

I requested "What the Nurses Saw" and was told that since it had not been reviewed in any "publications," and not recommended by their medical "experts," and no other public library had it, they weren't going to get it. (Subsequently I have found a few public libraries elsewhere who do have it.) I suppose the experts who should have recommended it would be crime and politics, not medical.
Sad, but I guess not surprising. Some librarians will use that position to push back on anything that doesn't fit their worldview, but most aren't quite that bad. But the whole "no other public library had it" is a horrible argument against a book. How does a book ever get in if that's a criteria? :/

A lot depends on whether one believes in the literal rebuilding of The Temple and the literal geopolitical Israel or if one believes, as Paul seems to teach, that in Christ all who believe are children of Abraham - not physically but spiritually. In which case The Church is Israel. Not literally but spiritually.
N.T. Wright, although not speaking explicitly directly to End Times, helpfully discusses this view of Church/Israel. He can be quite wordy, so reading his Everyman commentaries on the books of the NT is probably the best way to start reading him.

No animal sacrifice is effective now. Jesus was the final sacrifice to which everything in the mosaic law pointed.
