I can't tell you how many different medications his doctors tried giving him to help with his sundowners (up most of the night and cat napped most of the day) and his drastic mood swings in later stages (he could be mean and combative). What we found was that most medications for these issues don't work the same way in an Alzheimer's effected brain. Sleeping medications oftentimes had the opposite effect. Even if they found one that somewhat helped, it was short-lived.
