International research has never been my thing. And I don't speak Russian. Problem is the media in many of these countries are even more corrupt than ours, although we seem to be trying to catch up these days. I suspect that any reporting of any phenomena in Russia is only whatever the government wants people to know. Although, for grins…

Although, for grins, I just searched 'Russian food plant fires' and turns out there is an entry on Wikipedia (which I don't trust but it is handy at times) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russian_mystery_fires_(2022%E2%80%93present)
Agreed, it is hard. What is just a distraction, what is a legit concern, and how credible are these information sources? Personally I try to keep most of my focus on local issues as that is something I can actually have some influence in from time to time. But friends send constantly send me stuff and can't help myself, I start digging in. But then we go to some trivia night thing and they are like, dang you know nothing about pop culture. And I am like yeah, I spend my time researching all your conspiracy theories/facts! LOL. (not to mention most of it is cesspool on TV anyway)
lol. Totally understand!!! it got so bad. I would have such a hard time even just making small talk. Even now it’s difficult for me lol although it’s really not funny. Because I just want to yell at everybody don’t you care about what’s going on but I know they don’t and there’s absolutely no sense in me. Getting upset about it. we do the best we can. And I suggest Trevor pursuit and they have them for different ages and we have found that they are just so much fun and a lot of them don’t have to do with social questions as much as history geography etc..
Yeah we love board & trivia games, and have board game nights with friends and family. Trivial Pursuit is good, and we have Rock Trivia, Fact or Crap, and one called Chronology. It's a history game where you have to guess the year of the event/invention. There is also one called 'Mind the Gap' where you can play on teams that includes categories for Gen Z, Millennials. Gen X and Boomers. You need a diverse age range for that one but good for holiday gatherings.
Honestly my hubby didn’t play games growing up and that’s all my fam did. So now my kids play games and I always have some to play w the grands. ANYTHING to get them all off the electronics!!!!
Yeah, we'd lose gloriously if we were on the same trivia team. Haven't owned a TV since the 80s. One of my best decisions. Took me a while to appreciate Frank Zappa. Other than that, for years the topics of conversation almost anywhere I find myself, including with friends, for the most part have nothing to do with anything behind the curtain. So superficial, I... can barely... stand it. Not bad people, just gloriously incurious and accepting of cultural spoon feeding. ...Always was a misfit. ...Heterodox...
Well we still have a TV. Bought in 1999 and NOT 'smart'. We like it that way. Hubby is still a sports nut and it also plays Sirius XM as we have Dish (yeah, waste of money for me. But see above...SEC network and such...) so we use it to listen to classic/new rock. Actually stumbled on a game show we like, called The Floor, came on after a football game and hubby hooked me into it. It's a trivia game, a fun diversion an hour a week. Its on YT. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jl9w0XE65fM
But yeah, used to being out of touch on the majority of the vapid topics these days, which is why I spend a lot more time these days on political things, campaigns, events, speakers. Lot more kindred spirits in that crowd.
Oh my. I made it less than 10 min at link. No, don't miss TV. A reality TV producer in L.A. once said to me: It's my job to make people look stupid. - Well, I chuckled, 'cause he was just being honest but, Ouch. Have had producers randomly ask on the street in NYC (in days gone by) if I'd like to... I don't even know. Something on camera. I didn't even listen to the whole proposal. Noooo thanks. 😅😂 I pity the folks that agree.
Keep that old TV, as you no doubt know. I wonder if I've covered all potential image and sound intake areas on the relatively new laptop. I do have a smart phone and wonder if there will come a final straw on privacy invasion that will make me choose to give it up. Yadda. 😏
Lol. Well yeah it has tinges of reality TV but I still like the trivia parts. Actually better on YT as you can fast forward through the chatter and just watch the contests.

Btw we LOvE mind the gap, makes it perfect when there are grandparents to gen. Zers. Lol
Yeah, definitely need the young ones for Gen Z categories!
lol. You aren’t kidding!!!! I know zero and I mean zero of their questions! But they always get like 80% of them🤣🤣🤣
