Oh it's definitely not the same as before. My level of 'caring' about the outcome of the game was probably a 5, where it used to be a 10. I gave away all my Chiefs gear during take a knee but kept my late dad's 'lucky' Chiefs sweatshirt. He's been gone 10 years and it's not in the best shape any more. But he was a huge football fan so it's a little bit of nostalgia there.
Yes - he had 4 girls and I was the tomboy who loved to play touch football with the neighborhood boys. Took me to my first Chiefs game in HS and went with hubby and me to many games over the years. My mom was not a fan. So yeah, there is still a part of me that remembers when politics and drama was not front and center all the dang time.
Huge Browns and Yankees fan all my life. I now care so much I looked at the ESPN screen at the gym a few weeks ago and saw "resign Juan Soto? When did they sign him?"
Only sports I watch anymore is college football, and I have to hold my nose for that, especially the slobbering adoration for the military ( NOT, they could care less about our soldiers. It's all for the MIC) ceremonies that begin every game.
I don't even enjoy "intercollegiate" sports anymore--they have corrupted them with the "big money" incentives now!! SPORTS--I'll stick with my legacy TV series and classic movies for "TV viewing" from now on!!
I don't miss anything about "professional" sports anymore.
Enjoy, Donna!! While you can.

I understand NOW why you're still interested - that "Dad's Chiefs shirt" tipped the scales, Donna - LOVE nostalgia when it pertains to our family!!
