I hope you are right. The people I see on my social media feeds, supposedly intelligent people, think the Chevron ruling has given Biden the power to assassinate Trump. There are countless memes being posted by them actually encouraging him to do it, saying he has immunity. TDS is alive and well, sadly. Thomas Jefferson did write:

β€œWhat country before ever existed a century and half without a rebellion? And what country can preserve it’s liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is it’s natural manure.”

They all knew about Biden’s mental state the whole time, and that level of malicious corruption cannot be tolerated. In other words, β€œ____ enabled it and covered it up, putting our country in grave danger by having such a feeble leader.”

Expand full comment
John Cougar Misanthrope's avatar

Spot on.

It was obvious in 2019 and 2020 during the DNC Primary that Biden would be "installed" as the candidate. We saw this as democratic candidates suddenly began to drop out of the race left and right when Biden remarkably won the South Carolina primary. A few stayed, like Liz Warren, to create the illusion of a contest.

I'm still mystified by the DNCs selection of Harris as Biden's running mate, despite promising that the only criterion would be that the nomination go to a 'woman of color'. Maybe they were thinking that it would be Michelle Obama and she said "no way" and they were stuck with Harris because Susan Rice was not their pick to run the country as the first female black president. Michelle was still in play for 2024 which is where we are now.

Biden is as 'swampy' as they come, has the required baggage, and was/is selected because he was/is the perfect puppet. They knew he had cognitive issues then but he was the perfect figurehead. I don't think they anticipated how rapid and obvious his cognitive decline would be.

My head still spins when I think of Biden's first day in office, sitting at the Resolute Desk, signing fifteen executive orders which demonstrated his administration's intentions to disregard popular will, the separation of powers, and to do what ever it wanted to advance the agenda of Biden's handlers. Another faint echo from Dealey Plaza.

I may be wrong , but I still think there is a power struggle between the Newsom faction & the Obama faction. Having Harris on the ticket was a nod to the Newsom faction, but Obama won't let her take over because she's beholden to Newsom. Obama wants someone he can control & use for his 4th term & Newsom ain't it. I think they'll stick with Biden (they probably have millions of ballots ready with Biden's name), then after the installation, he'll be removed & Obama will get rid of Harris with a judgeship & put in who he has selected - the Gerald Ford plan.... Newsom's plan is to be appointed VP & get rid of Harris with a judgeship or something equally safe for her & take over - a slightly different Gerald Ford plan.

As a Californian who has watched what Newsom has done to our state with great dismay and disgust, no matter what he does or says he still comes across as such an arrogant, obnoxious doofus, exceptionally mindless and stupid. But he is obviously being pushed by certain parts of the Dem party and he is beloved by the special interest groups as he continually throws taxpayer money to them. We can't forget his Pelosi connection (relative by marriage, not a blood relative), so she is without a doubt pushing for him behind the scenes and she would retain a lot of control through having him in higher national office. I'm not sure who else is pro-Newsom, but the other day Larry Elder played a clip of a Dem governor who was (secretly?) caught on mike talking about how supposedly a lot of the Dem governors (and perhaps others) cringe when they see Newsom coming their way. "Here comes that *!$% again", they will say. So there may not be as many Newsom supporters as you might think. I think the Dems who like him feel he is handsome (yuk!) and young, and therefore a good contrast to Biden and other older politicians. Newsom is as dumb as Biden, and he will not get wiser with age, I can tell you that with certainty.

He sold his soul (to whatever degree he has a soul) to the devils behind him so he could play president. He desperately wanted his place in history, but I suspect he didn't realize exactly what he place in history was going to be. No good, that's for sure. Fifty years from now Biden will be seen in such a negative light, one of the worst if not THE worst in American history.

Re: Harris...

An attorney friend of mine hated Harris. He told a story on his blog about a man (perhaps black - I don't remember the details) being beaten to death by sheriffs in Bakersfield, CA during Harris' tenure as AG. My friend had read up on this story and sent several letters to Harris' office requesting that she look into this matter, and was rebuffed each time. He found her absolutely irresponsible and repugnant.

WIKI: "She began her career in the office of the district attorney (DA) of Alameda County, before being recruited to the San Francisco DA's Office and later the City Attorney of San Francisco's office. In 2003, she was elected DA of San Francisco. She was elected AG of California in 2010 and re-elected in 2014."

One question: how do you "begin your career" in the DA's office? Aren't there stepping stones in a legal career? Maybe she was an aide or the coffee girl or something.

From Yahoo 2 years ago:

β€œNobody should have to go to jail for smoking weed,” said Harris during her recent appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers. But as an attorney general, her record is much more complicated. Harris oversaw roughly 1,956 misdemeanor and felony convictions for β€œmarijuana possession, cultivation, or sale,” according to Reuters. However, defense attorneys and prosecutors in Harris’ office told Mercury News that most of the people convicted during this period did not serve jail time. And convictions for marijuana did go down under Harris’ tenure as district attorney."

A comment below this article: "Her job as a prosecutor was to prosecute and uphold the laws on the books at the time. Did she or didn’t she do that?"

As a teenager and into my adulthood, I was a pot smoker. I'll just put that out there for honesty's sake. I don't consider being a stoner a mortal sin. I rarely partake any more; I'm around it regularly but since I stopped imbibing on a regular basis, at 62 I find I prefer the clarity of mind I experience by abstaining. I've always thought marijuana laws were stupid and hypocritical, considering the toll alcoholism takes on society. Yes, I wanted weed to be legal, and yes, I think putting people in the slammer with hardened criminals for having a joint in their pocket is asinine, detrimental and historically racist.

The laws were conceived in the 30s to incarcerate black people, and should have been rescinded during the 60s social movements, but instead they were strengthened and used against white "radicals" who wanted peace and love. Reagan stepped it into high gear with his "war on drugs", and I remember the 80s and 90s when helicopters were used to find people's pot gardens, "Pigs on the Wing".

While I'm glad it's no longer being used as an excuse to harass and arrest people in my state, I still find it weird to see someone smoking a joint walking by my house in broad daylight.

It's lost its cool factor for me; now that anyone can do it, now that it's not taboo, it's no fun anymore. Moreover, I often see it as a sign that someone just doesn't have their shit together - that they rely on weed as an escape rather than dealing with life head-on. I don't know how much of that is my dad's angry voice echoing around in my teenage mind, or maybe just my own life experience.

But Kamala's hypocrisy on the subject is disturbing - I just can't find a way to take her seriously, even when she isn't cackling..

Expand full comment
John Cougar Misanthrope's avatar

I've read similar stories about Kamala's heroic tenure as DA. Didn't Tulsi lay into Kamala about her less-than stellar performance in this role during the DNC debates?

I generally agree with your stance on weed. I was in the music business in a former life and I struggled to deal with pot smokers and coke heads. The latter I simply couldn't trust. The former I couldn't engage in a conversation with or rely on them when time was a factor. That said, I have a friend who smokes to deal with service-related PTSD. He swears by it as an alternative to the array of pharmaceuticals the VA had him on so I'm not in any position to judge.

Expand full comment
Doug's avatar

I went to recording engineering school (a 9-month certificate course) in Hollywood in 1981, and the number of coked-out assholes (musicians, engineers and producers alike) I encountered put me off of wanting to work in "the industry".

Most of my friends smoked "to party" - I didn't have any close friends of the "wake and bake" variety. The world was too fascinating a place to be stoned all day long - I had things to do. Besides, I'm a lightweight, at least compared to most. A hit or two and I'm fine for hours. I couldn't see the point of sitting around sinking bongload after bongload - It just makes one cough a lot and beyond a certain point, you just don't get any higher.

I don't like to judge either, but addiction, whether physical or mental, just looks like weakness to me. Conscious, medicinal use is fine. I can attest personally to the pain-relieving value of high CBD concentrates - they're great for backaches, for example.

I was aware of Harris for a long time, and to be honest, I never once thought of her as black. Never entered my mind, she doesn't look black at all. We have a lot of Hispanics and people from India here (a lot of Sikhs) among many other groups, and had I even thought about it, I would have thought her to be a mix of perhaps white and something else. We know he was corrupt from the get-go.

I read about the horrible ways other evil leaders have died. Pontius Pilate, Herod was consumed from within by worms, other rulers in Europe dying from gonorrhea and syphilis and lord only knows what else.

We are watching the law of β€œsowing and reaping” as a man is consumed by the very things he sowed as those deadly, poisonous weeds devour him from within. I pray for my enemies. I do. I pray that even those who have crossed the border to harm us. I pray that they see and HEAR the Word of the Lord and that He convicts their heart, that they repent. And instead of harming us, they become our friends and protectors. I pray that our leaders either repent or be exposed. I pray the same for the church, school boards. That righteous leaders be raised up and that those who would destroy us would repent and turn or be destroyed .

Rik is the son of a different John Mayall. Rik was a brilliant alternative comedian who I first encountered in The Young Ones alongside Ade Edmundson, Nigel Planer, and Christopher Ryan. I agree that the bible warns against self reliance. Repeatedly. Proverbs 28:26 says, "Those who trust in themselves are fools, but those who walk in wisdom are kept safe".

But here is a question. Matt 25:1-13. The parable of the 10 virgins and the oil. There were 5 who were prepared, who planned ahead, and were ready. They were rewarded. There were five who had to make a midnight run to Walmart to get more lamp oil. By the time they got through the self checkout line, it was too late.

This sense of being prepared (and there are countless stories in the biblical texts that call for preparedness, way more than 10) is what Franklin meant, and what Ryan meant in quoting Franklin. You can help yourself by being prepared and ready.

I am very much post-church, and this kind of nit picking semantic stuff and the spirit of self-righteousness that seems to undergird it is certainly one reason why.

You haven't given me the 10 verses, as you stated. Just throwing accusations at me to justify your error. Please show me where the Lord said that, and the ten other verses. If you can't, I have proven my point. If I didn't know what the Bible says, I wouldn't have known that phrase was not there. I know the Bible right well. One shouldn't attribute to God what God doesn't say. You already know that. If you won't follow through on your statements, amen.

Ryan, thanks for the Locke quote. I know this was a big deal during the founders time, and it makes sense. We have the flag and fly it regularly in front of our house. Also, we've taken to flying the "in distress" version of the US Flag. We have a number of neighbors here in the So Cal that do the same. Most of our other neighbors just think we're idiots or careless flying it upside down.

Last night i was walking the dog and realizing that despite the recent SCOTUS decisions, we are still very much in distress. The republic is broken. It is not really functioning. 45's sentencing is moved to Sept 8. I would not be surprised if he is sentenced and locked up then, really better timing in some ways. Today it is fitting to post this perspective on our current state of freedom in the western world. It is a warning from decades ago. I copied it 2 years ago from a substack posting.

I am a student of Law whose age is 85. My first year of college was 68

years ago. One class I took was political science. A half page of my

textbook essentially outlined a few steps to overturn a democracy.

1. Divide the nation philosophically.

2. Forment racial strife.

3. Cause distrust of police authority.

4. Swarm the Nation’s borders indiscriminately and unconstitutionally.

5. Engender the military strength to weaken it.

6. Overburden citizens with more unfair taxation.

7. Encourage civil rioting and discourage accountability for all crime.

8. Control all balloting.

9. Control all media.

What was printed in 1954 as a possible diabolic nightmare has become

an emerging reality. I hope that Americans will unite enough to pen a good finish.

Go dwelling.

πŸ˜† I love your Apocaloptimism, Jeff. I don’t think we’re quite to the miniaturization stage when it comes to emergency β€œpublic health” powers yet, but there are certainly encouraging signs of shrinkage in America, anyway.

I think a good way to celebrate Independence Day is to read George Washington’s 1796 Farewell Address:

β€’ https://www.govinfo.gov/content/pkg/GPO-CDOC-106sdoc21/pdf/GPO-CDOC-106sdoc21.pdf

I read it a few months ago (https://substack.com/@margaretannaalice/note/c-52778058), and it inspired me to kick off my new Consequential Quotes series with warnings from presidents:

β€’ β€œConsequential Quotes: Warnings from US Presidents #1”: https://margaretannaalice.substack.com/p/consequential-quotes-warnings-from

Washington cautioned against the degradation of the Constitution, the poisonous divisiveness of factions, the rise of the military industrial complex, the dangers of becoming embroiled in foreign wars, and the hazards of becoming attached to a favorite nationβ€”all of which he predicted would spell the demise of this great nation. In other words, he nailed it.

Here’s but one example of many gems:

β€œThe alternate domination of one faction over another, sharpened by the spirit of revenge natural to party dissension, which in different ages and countries has perpetrated the most horrid enormities, is itself a frightful despotism. But this leads at length to a more formal and permanent despotism. The disorders and miseries which result gradually incline the minds of men to seek security and repose in the absolute power of an individual; and sooner or later the chief of some prevailing faction, more able or more fortunate than his competitors, turns this disposition to the purposes of his own elevation on the ruins of public liberty.”
