Merry Christmas, Jeff! I still wonder how you get so much done in the same 24 hour day that we all have. Your ability to find relevant information, read the related material and then reveal it to us in a beautifully written, yet hilarious way, is an amazing gift.

And Merry Christmas to all who have found this daily newsletter. For those who haven't yet, but can afford to, please subscribe to help the Childers family financially since way more of Jeff's day must be spent on this newsletter than his actual "JOB."

And thanks, also, Jeff for finding an organization that is helping those who are vax injured. I have a very close friend who spent 10 months in the hospital with fibrous clots in her leg. She's trying to find an attorney who will take her case but so far no one wants to correlate the shot with her condition.

There’s alway a first…keep searching…

On a side note I tried to find a malpractice attorney for a hip surgery….everyone turned me down, but one secretary did say that not because of my case, they were inundated with cases…’shocker’!!!

Expand full comment
Virtue Mustwin's avatar

Was it a hip replacement by any chance? I had one and now have one leg about 5/8" longer than before. Attorneys tell me it has to be more than an inch for anyone to take my case because that seems to be the established standard. I have just been in PT for sacroiliitis, but I will never be even, and will always be coping with this.

Expand full comment
Roger Beal's avatar

One of my two knee replacements caused a similar issue ... I wear a 3/8" lift in one shoe to compensate. Longterm, leg length variances can cause lower back issues. Oh, boy ....

Expand full comment
Tracy's avatar

I have had both hips replaced and both knees. I actually asked them to do as much lengthening as they could before causing any nerve damage. I already had one leg shorter than the other and have a plethora of back issues as a result. Just in case you don't know hip and knee replacements can change leg length somewhat if the ball and socket haven't been sitting correctly. Also, most people are not perfectly symmetrical.

Expand full comment
Virtue Mustwin's avatar

My surgeon offered no explanation for my leg length discrepancy. He showed me the x-ray and drew a crooked line to illustrate that they were even, which they weren't. Close enough is good enough in horse shoes, hand grenades and hip replacements!

Expand full comment
Tracy's avatar

There is a way to measure leg length accurately and drawing a line is not one of them. Leg length discrepancy is not uncommon though. Some people never have any issues and some people do. Alot of people have no idea that their back problems can be a result of them not knowing there's an issue with uneven leg length. Should be the first thing checked and then it can be helped with inserts and lifts.

Expand full comment
dog2's avatar

Given Jeff's community invite to help in any way, will chime in fwiw...I've one 1 1/2' shorter (was after a break), found a chiropractor who kept me out of any back surgery, and by simply doing an xray of my lower back with various shoe buildups we found the best buidup dimension to use. My experience has been building up the whole sole of the shoe has been the best but if can't find a cobbler or the shoe sole does not lend itself to bonding a buildup then I do an insert.

Expand full comment
Virtue Mustwin's avatar

The trouble with inserts is that often your foot will just pop out of the shoe. I like a lift that is under the heel, but not under the front third of the foot. There is a cobbler in Morristown, NJ called Rago Brothers. You can mail them the shoe and they will call you immediately with a quote. If you approve, they do the work very fast. They once built up the entire sole, but then the shoe wouldn't flex, so they had to do it over.

Expand full comment
dog2's avatar

Thank you, will keep that reference. As you note, anything is a compromise, trying to find the best one. I'm an oldster, limp, walk with a cane but am so lucky not to have had back issues for decades now.

Expand full comment
Virtue Mustwin's avatar

That is fortunate. I am happy for you.

Expand full comment
andy johnson's avatar

Just lifting the heel is going to shorten/tighten the calf muscles. It could also lead to higher impact (harder heel steike). It might be the lesser evil in your situation but there are risks.

Expand full comment
Tracy's avatar

It also pushes foot forward into the toe of the shoe which causes problems with the foot.

Most of the cobblers in NY/NJ were Italian, and they are a dying breed! Most people toss worn shoes in the trash, but if you need modifcations made to your shoes, you really need one.

A Pattern of Love

by Jack Smith

I didn’t question Timmy, age nine, or his seven year old brother Billy about the brown wrapping paper they passed back and forth between them as we visited each store.

Every year at Christmas time, our Service Club takes the children from poor families in our town on a personally conducted shopping tour. I was assigned Timmy and Billy, whose father was out of work. After giving them the allotted four dollars each, be began our trip. At different stores I made suggestions, but always their answer was a solemn shake of the head, no. Finally I asked, β€œWhere would you suggest we look?”

β€œCould we go to a shoe store, sir?’ answered Timmy. β€œWe’d like a pair of shoes for our Daddy so he can go to work.” In the shoe store the clerk asked what the boys wanted. Out came the brown paper. β€œWe want a pair of work shoes to fit this foot,” they said.

Billy explained that is was a pattern of their Daddy’s foot. They had drawn it while he was asleep in a chair. The clerk held the paper against a measuring stick, then walked away. Soon he came with an open box. β€œWill these do?’ he asked. Timmy and Billy handled the shoes with great eagerness. β€œHow much do they cost?” asked Billy.

Then Timmy saw the price on the box. β€œThey’re $16.95,” he said in dismay. β€œWe only have eight dollars.” I looked at the clerk and he cleared his throat. β€œThat’s the regular price,” he said, β€œbut they’re on sale for $3.98, today only.” Then with shoes happily in hand the boys bought gifts for their mother and two little sisters. Not once did they think of themselves.

The day after Christmas the boys’ father stopped me on the street. The new shoes were on his feet, gratitude was in his eyes. β€œI just thank Jesus for people who care,” he said.

β€œAnd I thank Jesus for your two sons,” I replied. β€œThey taught me more about Christmas in one evening than I had learned in a lifetime.”

I am the root and the descendant of David, the bright morning star.” And the Spirit and the bride say, β€œCome.” And let the one who hears say, β€œCome.” And let the one who is thirsty come. Come and Hear

…

Come and hear the voice of God

Creator, redeemer, friend

Come and hear Him make a way

For new life to begin.

…

Come and hear the angels sing

The announcement from on high

Come and hear the joyful news

Redemption has drawn nigh.

…

Come and hear the newborn babe

Heaven’s hope He brings

Come and hear salvation’s song

In the voice of the infant king.

…

Come and hear His words of life

That fill and heal and save

Come and hear them echo from

The gloriously empty grave.

…

Come and hear the Savior call

From manger and cross and throne

Come and hear Him calling out

To draw the lost ones home.

…

Come and hear Him from on high

The One who reaches down

Come and hear Him speaking life

And be not lost, but found.

…

Come and hear your soul’s desire

That yearning to be new

O come and hear, every heart

The good news is for you.

…

Jeff, this Christmas Day post is a minor miracle in itself. It is much appreciated, thank you.

Jeff, Merry Christmas to you and your family! Your posts have been my real news source and source of hope (apart from Christ) since I found you on Substack. Thank you for your deep (and snarky!) insights, clear proclamation of faith in Christ, and your commitment to America! When Rush Limbaugh passed, I never thought someone could fill the void. But you have and I am SO very grateful! πŸŽ„πŸŽ„

I call Jeff the Rush Limbaugh of Substack!

Astute commentary, overlooked news of the day, big news of the day, unique insight, wit, play on words, etc. What a gift he is to us!

Me too! Just wish I could enjoy C&C for 3 hours a day while working on my truck and cleaning my guns 😁

Thank you for remembering El Rushbo - thoughts of him are always close during this season, which he loved, especially when I hear Mannheim Steamrolled music. Fellow Dittoheads, if you haven’t already, (maybe tonight after the chaos subsides) put on Steamroller’s version of Silent Night and enjoy the memories. We’ll see him again when we see Jesus face to face..

I wish I had been able to reach him and tell him how to save himself with real cancer protocols. I tried to reach Rick Steves when he revealed he had prostate cancer last week, but he has already taken most of his treatments, is obviously jabbed., and all letters to him are collated by others and sent en masse. She did say he reads them all , though.

I will donate in honor of my big sister killed by the covid shots and not found for ONE MONTH after quietly dying alone in her home...I will never forget

So very very sorry. Those who succumbed to the propaganda have no clue for the most part that the dying has not stopped, not even slowed down. My wife will go to her family Christmas dinner surrounded by all but one who still drink the Kool Aid, and think we are the crazy ones. May well be the last time she sees her remaining brother in law, because he and her sister are in a Fortran "do loop" doing the same things with the same doctors over and over again to diagnose his serious problems, with obviously the same (non existent) cures.

I'm so sorry. I have never heard so many instances of people passing alone, only to be found days, weeks later after a well-check was called for. It started in the summer of 2021 with a high school friend who was found by her mother on the bathroom floor, to a college friend, post-Floyd retired cop, found in his chair to my neighbor's 42 year old brother found in his bed. I pray for all those who died alone and still cannot fathom how many still do not see the harm that has been unleased upon us.

A lovely surprise to see C&C on my phone today. Jeff, you continue to amaze me with your energy, creativity, and faithfulness to your calling (to be light in a dark world). Merry Christmas to all in the C&C family. My donation to React19 is currently glitching but I’ll keep trying. My heart breaks for those harmed by this travesty.

There was a great quote I kept on my first bulletin board in college: "The world is a comedy to those who think, a tragedy to those who feel". I believe the basic definition of comedy is that it all comes right in the end, as opposed to a tragedy, where everyone just dies. I am thankful for the comedy that you bring, Jeff. Not just a laugh, although yours are epic, but for the long-game--good WILL triumph over evil in the end. You made people smile and keep hoping through dark times. Thank you and Merry Christmas.
