I would think that the next two years we will see some behind bars. However, we are also dealing with a very democrat grand jury in DC. So sometimes we will never see justice until they face the Lord.
To me the republicans need to learn a lot about law fare and use it when so needed if this is ever to be fixed. A presidential pardon does not stop the justice department from investigating, indicting, prosecuting, and convicting a person that has received a presidential pardon. Crimes against humanity, lying under oath, obstructing a federal Senate investigation, illegally funding gain of function viruses, having federal employees on the federal payroll filing paperwork for someone to get rich, etc. All of these crimes can be prosecuted even without a prison sentence. Once a person is found guilty of any of these crimes it would not only open them up to state and civil lawsuits, which I believe is what is deserved, it also would be grounds to strip them of a pension, federal benefits and all issued licenses. Makes sense to me. The democrats have no problem putting innocent people behind bars like Peter Navarro, Steve Bannon, Roger Stone and thousands of others. The communist didn’t seem to have a problem putting an innocent 79 year old former president in prison for 400 years! There’s a lesson here to be learned, if you live by the sword you die by the sword.

What worries me about term limits is that the elected representatives will come and go, but staff stays on. And they are an immense source of bureaucratic know how and experience. A new congressman could be putty in their hands. Instead, I like to think of elections as a form of term limits. What we really need is a more informed electorate.
It strikes me that would simply hand even more power to unelected officials in the Deep State if the legislative branch was made up of relative new comers. What we need is an informed electorate, as Jefferson envisioned. Only a free people with a decent understanding of how our government operates and the issues will keep us from enslaving ourselves.
People/voters become lazy and complacent. They tend to just vote for the "devil they know". My HoR district voted in an new representative while sending the third most powerful R in the HoR, home. It was like an earthquake to the incumbent.

I don't see a necessary connection between term limits and demagoguery. During FDR's first term, the demagoguery came from Huey P. Long who used the Depression to push his "Share Our Wealth" agenda. The only reason that explains terms limits on the Executive (which did Zilch to prevent the Bureaucratic state from burgeoning) was b/c Republicans were panicked at the thought of presidents who could run and win as FDR had for four consecutive terms. So instead of running better campaigns with better policy solutions, they decided to run the cheap route and limit terms. Notice they excused themselves from term limits. As it turns out as an historical matter, all the demagoguery tends to arise every place BUT the executive: AOC, state governors, media personalities, George Soros, etc. There's my opening thrust in the duel! In SC we are having a special election to replace Lindsey Graham on the ballot for Senator. In the primary just held, only 25% of eligible voters voted. So it is likely the replacement will be chosen by even fewer since the election is in 11 days. The lack of interest is sad.

I agree that we need term limits with one caveat: we need to make absolutely sure that it doesn't lead to a takeover by federal bureaucrats who will be in place for their whole careers. That's the danger! We need very strong safeguards to prevent an entrenched bureaucracy from running our country.
That ("a takeover") has already happened. What safeguards are you proposing? The entrenched bureaucracy has been in place since the Great Depression and FDR's "alphabet agencies." SCOTUS, however, has recently handed Trump the antidote to the entrenched bureaucracy when "Humphrey's Executor" was overturned in "Trump vs. Slaughter." That decision, however, only addresses the heads of agencies and not the pencil pushing functionaries where the dirty work actually happens. Neil Gorsuch said in his concurrence with the majority opinion that Congress and the President need to start doing their jobs and act legislatively to rid ourselves of these parasites.
That's exactly what will happen if we were to enact term limits. We will no longer be a Republic. The people are the only check against our losing it. In America, a citizen is the highest thing you can be.
I agree that term limits are needed in government, in all 4 branches. The US is governed by 4 branches of the state: the executive, the legislative, the judicial, and the bureaucracy (the latter not being constitutionally defined and authorized).
We need limits in each branch:
- POTUS/VPOTUS should be elected to a single 6-year term without reelection
- House seats should be elected to 3-year terms and limited to 2 terms
- Senate seats should be appointed by legislatures to 6-year terms and limited to 2 terms while being subject to recall by states' legislatures that appoint them
- Federal judges and magistrates should be appointed to 15 year terms
- Bureau/agency executives - whether appointed or hired - should be limited to 6-year terms of office them retired from government.
- Lifetime service limits of 15 years cumulative service in all federal capacities should be imposed.
In recognition of the possibility of exceptional service and subject to approval of the electorate, re-election of representatives and senators might be appropriate; however, anyone who is chosen for re-election must have been out of office for as long as they served before being eligible to run for re-election.
As with all matters, such a scheme would have unintended consequences; however, even those are likely to be less detrimental to average citizens than the current tenure system.
And zero unions for any Federal workers. Start with that, and see if we can de-unionize the states after that. No unions for government workers. That puts too much leverage into the hands of largely leftist union bosses.

Were the red state legislatures to appoint their Senators along party lines, there would be a 62 Rep/38 Dem split in the Senate. RINOs could be recalled by their states and a new appointment made.
The Founders understood the States would lose power with the popular election of Senators, so wrote the Constitution appropriately. Deep State/Banks understood this, so a major fissure in our Constitutional Republic formed before anyone reading this was born.

If you look in history, the Senate was purposefully established as a check against the house, where they were likely to be subject to the immediacy of the people's demands. The senate was supposed to be more deliberative and this was possible through the longer terms.
That doesn't mean we can't change the makeup of the Senate, but it will take time and be possible for more principled causes, not flash in the pan uprisings.
Late edit: I neglected to mention that the allocation of senators was purposefully set to be equal per state (colonies), so that in one body of congress, each state had equal representation, regardless of size. The other (the house), they had representation based on population.
I'd love to see a roll call vote for the SAVE Act. That way we have a record of who specifically is against the effort to restore more election integrity. Also, I would like to see a record of who initiated a silent filibuster, but then that wouldn't be silent anymore would it?

I just now re-watched it, and his point is to repeal it so that states REGAIN their power against the federal government. States were the main players that agreed to be bound together in a national entity, without giving up all their power. The 17th amendment was the deconstruction of the power of the states.
Democracy is arguably to worst form of government, but some democracy is necessary in any legitimate government. The Founding Fathers understood this and created a Representative Republic specifically to counter the worst aspects of democracy. The house was created to be directly accountable to popular democratic vote by a district while the president was subject to democratic ballot. All other parts of the government eschew democratic selection and for the best of reasons.
I, too, would like to see a floor vote in the Senate on the SAVE Act and for the same reason: to put every senator on record as either supporting or opposing it for accountability. The fact that it is not - along with countless other failures by congress - argues for imposing rules of procedure on both houses of congress instead of continuing to allow the status quo ante. The ridiculous and shameful process of enacting the federal budget, alone, argues for those rules.

In my dark blue state, IL, Dem candidates win the office with a meager vote %age in the primaries, ala Mamdani, and face little/no competition in the general election. I do not pretend to have a solution except making gerry-mandering districts against the law.
It is probably easier to cure cancer than to vote an entrenched representative or senator from office. Political parties 'capture' incumbents. Political parties are unconstrained by the constitution and little constrained by acts of congress. Add to the political and fiscal control exerted by parties over incumbents the role played by corporate and PAC funding to re-election campaigns, and you discover the cancerous nature of the fallacy of voting incumbents out of office. Political parties have more success by 'primarying' them to get them out. Why can't we make incumbents more responsive to the will of the people?

The problem with the US Senate lies in 17A wherein senate seats were taken from the purview of state legislatures (which could recall them much more easily) and made elective by ballot of the people. This amendment was a Wilsonian progressives movement intended to weaken the Senate. It's current inability to even vote on the SAVE Act is all the proof you need. 17A must be rescinded and senate appointments returned to the states' legislatures.

Actually, the other day I listened to a discussion among a group of people I recently began paying attention to, proposing the notion that sometimes your best ally is someone who has been in the trenches with the bad guys. Bessent Soros, Trump – the mafia in New York City real estate, Rubio on the SSCI as senator, and so on.
I was a young aide to Republican Congressman Robert McClory, who sat on the Judiciary Committee and wrote the third Article of Impeachment against Nixon. Along with some speechwriting, I was his driver. We talked a lot during those rides - and he graciously took me seriously, even including me in some of his important private meetings so he could get my candid take later.
I was fascinated with Watergate. I was utterly baffled by the elevation of John Dean as some sort of hero. The release of the tapes proved conclusively that Dean was the architect of the coverup. The tapes proved he lied to the president, had lied to Congress, and had orchestrated all the bad things that followed the break-in at the DNC, until his "cancer on the presidency" talk with Nixon in March, 1973. This was the first Nixon knew of the organized cover-up...and was prelude to Dean's pandering to opponents in an effort to save his own skin. I asked how Dean could be a hero since everything following the break-in was HIS plan. McClory told me Dean was supplying important testimony and evidence. When the tapes came out and showed Dean had lied almost constantly in public testimony to Congress, self-righteously shifting blame for what he did to Nixon, the Congressman just pondered without answering.
It became clear to me, at least, that Dean was lionized simply because he was anti-Nixon. Just as now, there is nothing the press and Democrats so love as an anti-Republican Republican.
After Nixon resigned and Ford became president, McClory was jubilant and relieved. The closest I got to why Nixon was really pilloried was when, during a drive, he told me with uncharacteristic bitterness about how contemptuously Nixon routinely treated Republican Congressmen. It blew my 20-year-old mind that Nixon's support among Republican officials may have collapsed because he was socially awkward and routinely wounded putative allies' egos. Enough so that they let Dean's malignant lies stand after facts and timelines proved that Dean, not Nixon, was architect of the cover-up.
Ironically, during the summer of 1973, I was at a national convention of high school leaders (of which I was one). At the time, I considered myself a Democrat, as that was what my Dad was. But we had a bunch of prominent Democrat and Republican speakers. The Republicans notably struggled with doing what was good for the party and what was good for the country. The Democrat speakers were disgustingly gleeful over the political advantage they believed this gave them. I was having doubts through the week. Then the cloying Gary Hart gave a speech to us. He was not yet a Senator. His claim to fame at the time was that he had been George McGovern's campaign manager in 1972. It was smarmy, self-righteous, and encapsulated all the things that had given me pause in the preceding week. I walked into the assembly room still considering myself a Democrat - and walked out when he was done speaking a confirmed Republican. I have never looked back.

I was heading into my college junior year when Watergate erupted. I had voted for Nixon in ‘72 because my parents were voting for him, and I knew nothing of politics but I did hold to the notion of voting as a privilege. I had to obtain my one and only absentee ballot, and I distinctly remember all the steps I had to go through to vote. It was something. But by Watergate I was a typical college coed, not paying any mind to politics, but annoyed Watergate was in the news constantly. It wasn’t until last summer that I began to read of people who knew the Republican establishment in DC had thrown Nixon under the bus.
Once again I can’t emphasize enough how the media and what has passed for journalism for the last 100 years has obliterated the truth. Carl Berenstein and Bob Woodruff were Hollywood and DC darlings, and as corrupt as they come. I am thankful that more people can now seek alternatives than the legacy journalists and media.

Charlie J, I remember those years. I was surprised how quickly Nixon was done and done and gone. I remember thinking 'Something is not right here.' But I could never discover what it was because it was before internet and the media legacy controlled the narrative. But one thing I remember seeing was the loyalty of his two daughters. They never quit on their Dad. And Pat ,on that stage at the farewell, what a woman of dignity and stature. My very first vote ever for a President was to vote for Nixon in 1972 for his second term (In 1968 you still had to be 21 to vote and I was only 18). I always rather liked Nixon. My parents were conservative Republicans and my Air Force father was of course very worried about the Communist threat and his long military experience gave him solid reasons to feel that way. I had always thought the Watergate "scandal" seemed oddly ridiculous and overblown by Democrats, but until recent years I didn't connect all the dots of how the Deep State orchestrated it all and forced him to resign, events which I still vividly recall as an unspeakably sad and tragic thing for the nation. The Watergate thing is a child's tea party compared to things the Democrats have done in recent decades.

To me the republicans need to learn a lot about law fare and use it when so needed if this is ever to be fixed. A presidential pardon does not stop the justice department from investigating, indicting, prosecuting, and convicting a person that has received a presidential pardon. Crimes against humanity, lying under oath, obstructing a federal Senate investigation, illegally funding gain of function viruses, having federal employees on the federal payroll filing paperwork for someone to get rich, etc. All of these crimes can be prosecuted even without a prison sentence. Once a person is found guilty of any of these crimes it would not only open them up to state and civil lawsuits, which I believe is what is deserved, it also would be grounds to strip them of a pension, federal benefits and all issued licenses. Makes sense to me. The democrats have no problem putting innocent people behind bars like Peter Navarro, Steve Bannon, Roger Stone and thousands of others. The communist didn’t seem to have a problem putting an innocent 79 year old former president in prison for 400 years! There’s a lesson here to be learned, if you live by the sword you die by the sword.

What worries me about term limits is that the elected representatives will come and go, but staff stays on. And they are an immense source of bureaucratic know how and experience. A new congressman could be putty in their hands. Instead, I like to think of elections as a form of term limits. What we really need is a more informed electorate.

I don't see a necessary connection between term limits and demagoguery. During FDR's first term, the demagoguery came from Huey P. Long who used the Depression to push his "Share Our Wealth" agenda. The only reason that explains terms limits on the Executive (which did Zilch to prevent the Bureaucratic state from burgeoning) was b/c Republicans were panicked at the thought of presidents who could run and win as FDR had for four consecutive terms. So instead of running better campaigns with better policy solutions, they decided to run the cheap route and limit terms. Notice they excused themselves from term limits. In SC we are having a special election to replace Lindsey Graham on the ballot for Senator. In the primary just held, only 25% of eligible voters voted. So it is likely the replacement will be chosen by even fewer since the election is in 11 days. The lack of interest is sad.

That ("a takeover") has already happened. What safeguards are you proposing? The entrenched bureaucracy has been in place since the Great Depression and FDR's "alphabet agencies." SCOTUS, however, has recently handed Trump the antidote to the entrenched bureaucracy when "Humphrey's Executor" was overturned in "Trump vs. Slaughter." That decision, however, only addresses the heads of agencies and not the pencil pushing functionaries where the dirty work actually happens. Neil Gorsuch said in his concurrence with the majority opinion that Congress and the President need to start doing their jobs and act legislatively to rid ourselves of these parasites.
That's exactly what will happen if we were to enact term limits. We will no longer be a Republic. The people are the only check against our losing it. In America, a citizen is the highest thing you can be.
I agree that term limits are needed in government, in all 4 branches. The US is governed by 4 branches of the state: the executive, the legislative, the judicial, and the bureaucracy (the latter not being constitutionally defined and authorized).
We need limits in each branch:
- POTUS/VPOTUS should be elected to a single 6-year term without reelection
- House seats should be elected to 3-year terms and limited to 2 terms
- Senate seats should be appointed by legislatures to 6-year terms and limited to 2 terms while being subject to recall by states' legislatures that appoint them
- Federal judges and magistrates should be appointed to 15 year terms
- Bureau/agency executives - whether appointed or hired - should be limited to 6-year terms of office them retired from government.
- Lifetime service limits of 15 years cumulative service in all federal capacities should be imposed.
In recognition of the possibility of exceptional service and subject to approval of the electorate, re-election of representatives and senators might be appropriate; however, anyone who is chosen for re-election must have been out of office for as long as they served before being eligible to run for re-election.
As with all matters, such a scheme would have unintended consequences; however, even those are likely to be less detrimental to average citizens than the current tenure system.
And zero unions for any Federal workers. Start with that, and see if we can de-unionize the states after that. No unions for government workers. That puts too much leverage into the hands of largely leftist union bosses.

The vaunted, elite Senators act (or rather, don't act) with impunity because they know the voters don't really pay attention to anything they mostly don't do. Could the average voter describe what is happening with the SAVE act, do they know a single thing about the filibuster and how it's used? The answer is no.

I’d rather have the SAVE Act because it would be legislation that worked its way through 3 branches of government and would be difficult to undo, if passed.
The USPS action is also important and impactful, but it’s happening by Executive Order. Which can be undone at flip of a light switch if a D were to win the WH.
The USPS program gets us a conservative majority in the House and Senate, which will then pass the SAVE Act or something better. It's a stopgap, I think.

If you look in history, the Senate was purposefully established as a check against the house, where they were likely to be subject to the immediacy of the people's demands. The senate was supposed to be more deliberative and this was possible through the longer terms.
That doesn't mean we can't change the makeup of the Senate, but it will take time and be possible for more principled causes, not flash in the pan uprisings.
Late edit: I neglected to mention that the allocation of senators was purposefully set to be equal per state (colonies), so that in one body of congress, each state had equal representation, regardless of size. The other (the house), they had representation based on population.
I'd love to see a roll call vote for the SAVE Act. That way we have a record of who specifically is against the effort to restore more election integrity. Also, I would like to see a record of who initiated a silent filibuster, but then that wouldn't be silent anymore would it?

Repealing the 17th amendment to let the senate be chosen by state legislatures might be a way to get better representation from non-captured big cities and monied individuals with weird agendas.

I just now re-watched it, and his point is to repeal it so that states REGAIN their power against the federal government. States were the main players that agreed to be bound together in a national entity, without giving up all their power. The 17th amendment was the deconstruction of the power of the states.
Democracy is arguably to worst form of government, but some democracy is necessary in any legitimate government. The Founding Fathers understood this and created a Representative Republic specifically to counter the worst aspects of democracy. The house was created to be directly accountable to popular democratic vote by a district while the president was subject to democratic ballot. All other parts of the government eschew democratic selection and for the best of reasons.
I, too, would like to see a floor vote in the Senate on the SAVE Act and for the same reason: to put every senator on record as either supporting or opposing it for accountability. The fact that it is not - along with countless other failures by congress - argues for imposing rules of procedure on both houses of congress instead of continuing to allow the status quo ante. The ridiculous and shameful process of enacting the federal budget, alone, argues for those rules.

In my dark blue state, IL, Dem candidates win the office with a meager vote %age in the primaries, ala Mamdani, and face little/no competition in the general election. I do not pretend to have a solution except making gerry-mandering districts against the law.
It is probably easier to cure cancer than to vote an entrenched representative or senator from office. Political parties 'capture' incumbents. Political parties are unconstrained by the constitution and little constrained by acts of congress. Add to the political and fiscal control exerted by parties over incumbents the role played by corporate and PAC funding to re-election campaigns, and you discover the cancerous nature of the fallacy of voting incumbents out of office. Political parties have more success by 'primarying' them to get them out. Why can't we make incumbents more responsive to the will of the people?
Perhaps, the Senators that are obstructing are the ones that were elected with fake votes? Or perhaps, the obstruction of the "SAVE ACT" is orchestrated because it is the back-up plan if the USPS Bar Code tracking system is found to be unlawful or not ready to implement this election season. As we have seen with the Trump 2.0 Administration, there are many irons in the fire for various long term solutions to the Corruption that has infiltrated our Federal and State Government.

The problem with the US Senate lies in 17A wherein senate seats were taken from the purview of state legislatures (which could recall them much more easily) and made elective by ballot of the people. This amendment was a Wilsonian progressives movement intended to weaken the Senate. It's current inability to even vote on the SAVE Act is all the proof you need. 17A must be rescinded and senate appointments returned to the states' legislatures.

Possibly, but more likely Trump has learned that he has to pursue things from more than one angle because he knows the Democrats and their accomplices in the press will block everything he puts in place. This makes it harder because there are just so manythings they can’t be outraged by all of them, even though they give it the old college try.

Actually, the other day I listened to a discussion among a group of people I recently began paying attention to, proposing the notion that sometimes your best ally is someone who has been in the trenches with the bad guys. Bessent Soros, Trump – the mafia in New York City real estate, Rubio on the SSCI as senator, and so on.
I was a young aide to Republican Congressman Robert McClory, who sat on the Judiciary Committee and wrote the third Article of Impeachment against Nixon. Along with some speechwriting, I was his driver. We talked a lot during those rides - and he graciously took me seriously, even including me in some of his important private meetings so he could get my candid take later.
I was fascinated with Watergate. I was utterly baffled by the elevation of John Dean as some sort of hero. The release of the tapes proved conclusively that Dean was the architect of the coverup. The tapes proved he lied to the president, had lied to Congress, and had orchestrated all the bad things that followed the break-in at the DNC, until his "cancer on the presidency" talk with Nixon in March, 1973. This was the first Nixon knew of the organized cover-up...and was prelude to Dean's pandering to opponents in an effort to save his own skin. I asked how Dean could be a hero since everything following the break-in was HIS plan. McClory told me Dean was supplying important testimony and evidence. When the tapes came out and showed Dean had lied almost constantly in public testimony to Congress, self-righteously shifting blame for what he did to Nixon, the Congressman just pondered without answering.
It became clear to me, at least, that Dean was lionized simply because he was anti-Nixon. Just as now, there is nothing the press and Democrats so love as an anti-Republican Republican.
After Nixon resigned and Ford became president, McClory was jubilant and relieved. The closest I got to why Nixon was really pilloried was when, during a drive, he told me with uncharacteristic bitterness about how contemptuously Nixon routinely treated Republican Congressmen. It blew my 20-year-old mind that Nixon's support among Republican officials may have collapsed because he was socially awkward and routinely wounded putative allies' egos. Enough so that they let Dean's malignant lies stand after facts and timelines proved that Dean, not Nixon, was architect of the cover-up.
Ironically, during the summer of 1973, I was at a national convention of high school leaders (of which I was one). At the time, I considered myself a Democrat, as that was what my Dad was. But we had a bunch of prominent Democrat and Republican speakers. The Republicans notably struggled with doing what was good for the party and what was good for the country. The Democrat speakers were disgustingly gleeful over the political advantage they believed this gave them. I was having doubts through the week. Then the cloying Gary Hart gave a speech to us. He was not yet a Senator. His claim to fame at the time was that he had been George McGovern's campaign manager in 1972. It was smarmy, self-righteous, and encapsulated all the things that had given me pause in the preceding week. I walked into the assembly room still considering myself a Democrat - and walked out when he was done speaking a confirmed Republican. I have never looked back.
You have the makings for a book there that could benefit fence sitters.

I was heading into my college junior year when Watergate erupted. I had voted for Nixon in ‘72 because my parents were voting for him, and I knew nothing of politics but I did hold to the notion of voting as a privilege. I had to obtain my one and only absentee ballot, and I distinctly remember all the steps I had to go through to vote. It was something. But by Watergate I was a typical college coed, not paying any mind to politics, but annoyed Watergate was in the news constantly. It wasn’t until last summer that I began to read of people who knew the Republican establishment in DC had thrown Nixon under the bus.
Once again I can’t emphasize enough how the media and what has passed for journalism for the last 100 years has obliterated the truth. Carl Berenstein and Bob Woodruff were Hollywood and DC darlings, and as corrupt as they come. I am thankful that more people can now seek alternatives than the legacy journalists and media.

Wow, thx for sharing. I was 4-5 years old but have one distinct memory of the Nixon hearings on TV one day. I didn’t realize what watergate was about until 20 years ago but I’ve always questioned it because the narrative seemed like much ado about nothing much.
Charlie J, I remember those years. I was surprised how quickly Nixon was done and done and gone. I remember thinking 'Something is not right here.' But I could never discover what it was because it was before internet and the media legacy controlled the narrative. Walter Cronkite (spelling??) was the worst; deep state news anchor if there ever was one, but I did not learn that until 3 decades later. But one thing I remember seeing was the loyalty of his two daughters. They never quit on their Dad. And Pat ,on that stage at the farewell, what a woman of dignity and stature. So, Nixon had a great family. And I knew then and now that good parenting produces such a family. You want to know the measure of a man? Look at his children and see. I am so glad that both Tricia and Julie are still alive to see their father's name lifted from the gutter the deep state put him in.

My very first vote ever for a President was to vote for Nixon in 1972 for his second term (In 1968 you still had to be 21 to vote and I was only 18). I always rather liked Nixon. My parents were conservative Republicans and my Air Force father was of course very worried about the Communist threat and his long military experience gave him solid reasons to feel that way. I had always thought the Watergate "scandal" seemed oddly ridiculous and overblown by Democrats, but until recent years I didn't connect all the dots of how the Deep State orchestrated it all and forced him to resign, events which I still vividly recall as an unspeakably sad and tragic thing for the nation. Even though I had registered as a democrat (at age 18), I still supported President Nixon and volunteered at his campaign headquarters for the 1972 election. I agree that President Nixon wasn’t perfect, and I still disagree with some of the things he did, but I enjoyed reading that some of today’s young people are doing their own research and learning about the good things he did, and that he was set up by the Deep State.
