Regarding your Virginia segment in yesterday's post; we are absolutely sick about this whole thing. Our family escaped California seven years ago and by two years in to living here I began to fret about Virginia turning into CA. And, so, it has begun. Once again three counties control the entire state with diametrically different goals from RoVA. Living in NoVa, it feels like we live in Paris. The edu-snobs and the know-it-alls will ruin this state. It makes me cry. This is worse than the pandemic mind-virus; it is watching the death of a state in (now) fast forward. My relief is knowing God is in control and will care for us no matter what.

Another example of why we need in person voter ID elections. Stay the course Jenn… hold the line and know you are being prayed for!! Send up prayers for VA C&C Army!!! πŸ™πŸ™

Thank you! We will continue to pray for our state and nation. We have voter ID here but in certain counties is appears to be lax. A friend of mine did poll work and she was floored at what was happening in Alexandria. Arlington, we've heard, is the same.

Cheryl Stoker's avatar

State GOP needs to coordinate Poll WATCHERS (not workers) & attorneys to oversee elections. FL does this quite well!

Fiat Lux's avatar

You are not voting your way out of this shit. It must run it's course. Just imagine the American Indian. Today's voting is the equivalent of the Indian's Ghost Dance.

I am so sorry to hear this. I have been thinking about the VA summary quite a bit. It’s rather nerve racking, very nerve racking

Jenn's avatar
5hEdited

It causes extreme anxiety because it most certainly feels like the Dems are going postal. Fairfax County is the most egregious county taxing people and the fees. And now it will mirror the same at the state level, only worse. Granted, they have to pass these things legislatively but at the helm is Darth Vader meets Voldemort and she has the full weight of disgruntled, useless Fed workers. They are like the teachers unions on steroids.

Dr Linda's avatar

I get it. I left CA 35 years ago (born & raised Californian). I am ever watchful here in Missouri.

I feel your stress / distress. I am sorry.

Same. Left Cali 26 years ago for Idaho which has been invaded by libs. Not changing as quickly but it IS changing

Another noVA resident here and I feel your anxiety over this. I’ve never lived in California though. But we are plenty worried about this. But trying to keep my trust in God and know that often times people have to learn things the hard way. Just difficult when I have to experience the mass punishment along with them.

I've lived in both places. And Colorado, Washington, and Oregon. Seen it happen in all those amazing places. I'm really sorry for VA. Always knew it was possible. Horrible to see it happen. I'm in ID now and working to keep it real here. People do love their RINOS though, and just voting red without really vetting the person, so feels like an uphill battle.

Headed your way from Washington. I will help also. Already following local government and will attend meetings and get involved once we are fully transitioned. Local local local

... nerve wracking? πŸ€”

Dr Linda's avatar

Webster Dictionary

nerve-racking

adjective

nerve-rack·ing ˈnΙ™rv-ˌra-kiΕ‹

variants or nerve-wracking

Synonyms of nerve-racking

: extremely trying on the nerves

a nerve-racking ordeal

The job interview was a nerve-racking experience.

Potatoes patatoes. Both are correct.

David Nelson's avatar

I guess it depends on whether you're stretching your nerves--or brains--as on a rack, or wrecking them--as on the rocks.

Grok.comsez:

'Rack (verb/noun):

Originates from Middle Dutch recken ("to stretch").

As a verb, it means to strain, torture, torment, or stretch to the limit (literally from the medieval torture device called a rack, where victims were stretched painfully).

Common uses: rack up points, rack one's brain, racked with pain/guilt/doubt, nerve-racking.

'Wrack (verb/noun):

Originates from Old English/Middle English words related to wreck (shipwreck, ruin).

As a verb, it primarily means to wreck, destroy, ruin, or cause devastation (often nautical: wrack a ship on rocks).

As a noun: wreckage, seaweed cast ashore, or ruin (e.g., "wrack and ruin").'

Although commonly accepted as interchangeable, to my eye "wrack" suggests irreparable damage: wracked nerves ought to be "former nerves." Of course, I'm assuming the "rack treatment" didn't always resort in death ( easy for me to assume).

Sue Rosenthal's avatar

On the worst days, I've had to wreck my racked nerves on the rocks of a margarita.

Californian (LA County) checking-in. My wife and I envision moving away someday, but don't know where. Perhaps a redder part of California. But we increasingly feel like we've experienced a lifetime's worth of living in a large dysfunctional alienating blue metro area. We hope to find a nice red rural area not too far from a nice red town in a nice red county surrounded by nice red counties in a red state (preferably surrounded by nice red states if such a place exists).

Mudpuppy's avatar

Ex San Diegan here, left S.D. to a small rural town…felt like third class citizen! Horrible to nonexistent services (sheriff, fire, ambulance, reliable electricity, cable, internet, etc), fruits and vegetables rotten at the core due to long refrigerated hauls, expensive groceries due to gas costs in CA., higher gas costs at the one service station and only two restaurants in town and both expensive due to former stated costs. And don’t even think you will get decent medical, dental or eye care unless you are willing to drive a long way to another town. Leave CA. behind and go to a red state…we chose FL. and have not regretted it.

Starsky's avatar

San Diego/Orange County was the longest conservative holdout in Southern California. It’s a damn shame it finally fell.

Oliver Klosov's avatar

I would argue the majority of CA is and has always been red and conservative. It's the rampant election fraud and nonstop squawking of the captured media that makes it seem otherwise.

KateT's avatar

We fled California in 2021. We didn't want to get the jab and we had many concerns about staying. We would love to go back some day. I don't want to risk it now. I hope California improves!

California needs to be split into two states. Either north and south, or it should be coastal versus inland.

Juju's avatar

Let’s hope Texas fights like a beast against it. Our son relocated there last year and he’s in the middle of a blue cesspool near Austin. I pray for his future. Texans! Hold on tight! Hold the line!

Alice Ball's avatar

Juju, most of Texas is red, but there are blue parts of every big city, just like there are all across the country. Austin is definitely unique in Texas. It’s really an old hippie city. It’s fun to visit, great restaurants, incredible texas BBQ, but way too crunchy for me. But my early 40s niece lives there and loves it, but she’s a moderate and not a progressive.

Juju's avatar

Isn’t that how Portland began? Look what it grew into. Same with some CA cities. The blue spreads like a virus when people let it with complacency and later find it too overwhelming to fight, like VA.

Taiga's avatar

I'm curious, if you'd like to respond, about your decision making process because I'm interested in sharpening my own. What research or information informed your move to Oregon to cause you to believe it was different or better than CA? Were you aware of its liberal policies but believe you might reach a devil's bargain to achieve your goals ? Did you follow friends? Oregon was invaded by Californians decades ago and the West side has been destroyed. Eastern Oregonians have been trying to join Idaho. Bend, a popular destination for most Californians flipped blue almost overnight. It was sharply divided into the "West side" (liberals) and the rest of Bend, then it finally surrendered to progressiveness, homelessness and all the other ills.

Rightly So's avatar

Yep! That Mail-in Ballot Voting scheme is a funny creature. Written by, and first Senator to be "elected" by, said procedure (gee, imagine that), Ron Wyden, stupendously, and quite vigorously, defends his fraudulent invention as if he were Dr. Frankenstein himself. And yes, unfortunately, it's "still alive!!!"

So, I can only suppose, Lisa, when making her escape from California to Oregon, was vastly unaware of Dr. Frankenstein's creation and still held hope closely to her chest while envisioning that "The People's" voices would be heard and "normalcy" would once again reign supreme throughout the State. NOPE!!! Hahaha, had you going there though for a second or two. But again, it will never happen as long as Mail-in voting remains. It's broke. And it must be fixed!

I am right there with you. I left NY state because the fascist gov. Hochul was just destroying the state, taxes were soaring upwards with no end in sight. The covid response was draconian, to say the least. Now I see it all repeating here in VA. In NY, NYC controlled the state and here, it's the North with it's dense population of DC employees and deranged leftists that control the rest of the state. I wish Winsome Sears and the VA GOP had done a little better job of campaigning and pointing out that Spam was a CIA employee. She could turn out to be worse than Hochul if that's possible. Twenty-something years ago, I noticed that the Muslims were emigrating to just about every country in the world. Interestingly enough, they were getting involved in politics....starting small, at the city level. Twenty-something years later, the world is a much more Muslim-centered world.....certainly not for the betterment of the "infidels" since it's proven they DO NOT assimilate. I sincerely DO NOT understand how a Muslim politician can take an oath to uphold the US Constitution when they are fundamentally opposed to everything it stands for. David Wilkerson had a vision in 1973. Six words that God told him to tell us to always remember when times get sick-hard is "God has everything under control." Our job is to pray like we are most favored children of our Father, with authority and power and dominion over the dark forces. It is the only way we win. The church has buried this authority we have in Christ and we need to take it back and use it to fight. We can't fight a spiritual battle in the natural. Based on a bogus Oct 7 attack they knew far in advance was coming and could have prevented?

Are you impaired somehow? OR just ignorant.

Lynne Morris's avatar

I am not ignorant and suggest you take a peek in a mirror on that front. I have no doubt that some innocent lives have been lost in Gaza. Some occasioned by Usrael but some directly at the hands of the terrorist group Hamas and all indirectly. I have no idea how many lives, innocent or otherwise, have been lost and neither do you. I do know that the likelihood of that increases when a terrorist "army" sees fit to imbed itself in a civilian population. IMO Israel has shown remarkable restraint. Lastly it is disingenuous - very, very, very disingenuous - to shriek and wail about genocide when population numbers remain remarkably consistent.

The mindless Anti-ICE freakshows were at it again. Bovino and crew were refused service at a Speedway Convenience Store in Minneapolis yesterday. That's fine. What's good for the goose...If this is the way the game is going to be played by the retards then the retards shouldn't get their panties in a twist and initiate a federal case because a couple of pastry shop owners, who just happen to be Christian, refuse to create a cake for Bob and Raoul's wedding. "Gay cake is not on the menu, ladies." Refusal of service cuts both ways, and since throwing food and spitting on agents is wholly permissible I propose - no pun intended - to respond in kind. "Yes, we shall pelt them with cooked rice, 3 day old tarts and stale churros. Feel our wrath!" I suspect Speedway - owned by 7-11 - will be receiving some interesting calls and emails.

ICE, I've got 4 words for you: "Water cannons in January." You may now use the restroom in peace....grab a coffee when you're done.

Incidentally, I had no idea that I was sitting on a potential gold mine with the: "No, shirt, no shoes, no service" restaurant and retail store mantra when I was growing up. Ah, the innocence of uncorrupted youth.

Good Morning C&C. Question: why do we continue to call corporate media "media"? They are neither stupid, clueless, nor ignorant. Nor do they deliver objective "news". They are collectively the deep state Ministry of Propaganda. Oompa Goebbels would be proud. Why can't we begin calling them what they are: Ministry of Propaganda.

🌱NardπŸ™'s avatar

We changed the definition of β€œvaccine” during the pandemic…maybe we should just change the definition…

Mainstream media: Where objectivity goes to die, bias gets a byline, every headline has a side hustle, and every storyline gets fact-checked by itself.

Let's face it -- English is a crazy language. There is no egg in eggplant not ham in hamburger; neither apple or pine in pineapple. English muffins weren't invented in England or French fries in France. Sweetmeats are candies while sweetbreads, which aren't sweet, are meat.

We take English for granted. But if we explore its paradoxes, we find that quicksand can work slowly, boxing rings are square and a guinea pig is neither from Guinea nor is it a pig. And why is it that writers write but fingers don't fing, grocers don't groce and hammers don't ham? If the plural of tooth is teeth, why isn't the plural of booth beeth? One goose, 2 geese. So one moose, 2 meese? One index, 2 indices?

Doesn't it seem crazy that you can make amends but not one amend, that you comb through annals of history but not a single annal? If you have a bunch of odds and ends and get rid of all but one of them, what do you call it? If teachers taught, why didn't preachers praught? If a vegetarian eats vegetables, what does a humanitarian eat? If you wrote a letter, perhaps you bote your tongue?

Sometimes I think all the English speakers should be committed to an asylum for the verbally insane. In what language do people recite at a play and play at a recital? Ship by truck and send cargo by ship? Have noses that run and feet that smell? Park on driveways and drive on parkways? How can a slim chance and a fat chance be the sanme, while a wise man and wise guy are opposites? How can overlook and oversee be opposites, while quite alot and quite a few are alike? How can the weather be hot as hell one day and cold as hell another.

Have you noticed that we talk about certain things only when they are absent?

Have you ever seen a horseful carriage or a strapful gown? Met a sung hero or experienced requited love? Have you ever run into someone who was combobulated, gruntled, ruly or peccable? And where are all those people who ARE spring chickens or who would ACTUALLY hurt a fly?

You have to marvel at the unique lunacy of a language in which your house can burn up as it burns down, in which you fill in a form by filling it out and in which an alarm clock goes off by going on.

English was invented by people, not computers, and it reflects the creativity of the human race (which, of course, isn't a race at all). That is why, when the stars are out, they are visible, but when the lights are out, they are invisible. And why, when I wind up my watch, I start it, but when I wind up this essay, I end it. β€”Unknown

RunningLogic's avatar

Although I realize that this is a humorous post, a lot of these questions could be answered if English teachers knew and taught at least a little about the history of the English language and etymology. It always bugs me when people, especially teachers, answer questions about why the language is a certain way, with something along the lines of β€œEnglish is just weird.” No, not really. There are lots of very common and normal linguistic mechanisms in play, but few people ever learn about them so kids in school just think grammar is β€œdumb” and spelling β€œmakes no sense.”

Lynne Morris's avatar

English is a "borrowing language". Which is one reason for its longevity and strength.

Valerie's avatar

The TX investigation sounds promising too.

RunningLogic's avatar

Yes, I didn’t know about that until I read Jeff’s round up today and I agree that having both of these lawsuits going on at once is very promising!!

Laureen's avatar

I did too! Fantastic. The saddest part of his SS was hearing a second set ot twins just passed found in their beds after receiving 3 jabs at 9am and at 7am the next day they were gone. This is pure child sacrifice and it has to be ended at any and all costs.

Abiding Dude's avatar

And yet Bobby and the FDA/CDC still allow the Covid death jabs to be available and pushed.

Some say the maggot Susie Wiles is responsible...

Skeptical Actuary's avatar

HHS has pulled the recommendation for most people under 65. As we often say about Mr. Trump, let RFK Jr work.

RFK Jr has stated that he CANNOT just change some of the policies. He has to wait until some organization sues them for information or for a change in policy.

So sometimes you will hear a headline about a lawsuit against HHS framed in a way that sounds like HHS is a traitor to MAHA. But no, that's the way it has to work, and RFK wants those lawsuits.

Abiding Dude's avatar

The approval process and the EUA being granted was so corrupt, it could be revoked NOW.

The millions of dead from the Covid jabs is also reason enough to suspend all mRNA jabs until REAL safety studies can be done.

So, no, that is NOT the way it has to work... remember a previous flu jab, Swine flu or some similar... killed a small number and was quickly yanked off the market...

Skeptical Actuary's avatar

I hope they have top tier lawyers. I watch The Highwire, and Del Bigtree often goes on about how important it is to have the best lawyers working on the important cases, because messing up an important case will have consequences that can't be undone.

Jeff here talks about it too, as well as the importance of starting with smaller adversaries and building precedent to go against the well connected and wealthy targets.

RunningLogic's avatar

β€”β€œthe reason it came as surprising news to most people, is because the blind squirrels impersonating reporters at our corporate media platforms can’t spend ten seconds on Google learning the history, in order to mention it in any of their ten thousand articles about Trump β€˜bullying’ Denmark.”

That, and the fact that the so-called β€œhistory teachers” prefer to whine about white supremacy than actually teach history πŸ™„

" AAP guidance β€œwhich does not generally recognize family history of vaccine reactions.”" Oh god... This is called "genetic diversity" it's a real thing. Yes, injuries run in families and in ethnic groups.

I have mentioned I was damaged at an early age, one of my sisters was too, not as bad, but noticeably. Yes, genetics are a thing in medicine.

ARGH!!!

RunningLogic's avatar

Especially since they keep harping on family history for pretty much everything else! Even when it doesn’t necessarily make sense. I have a friend who is terrified of getting colon cancer because of her family history (her father had it and died from it) but he was a smoker and overweight and probably had other lifestyle issues that contributed greatly. She has none of those and yet her doctors tell her she needs regular colonoscopies because of her family history…

Laureen's avatar

Another set of twins found dead in their cribs after getting 3 jabs at once. Jabs at 9am and found dead 7am the next morning. This is pure murder and has got to end. The AAP is demonic and I am convinced part of a child sacrifice cult.

Valerie's avatar

I think everyone is expecting snow or at least terrible weather this weekend. In Houston we are expecting wintry mix which means ice on the roads for two days, so I’m sure all the toilet paper is gone from the stores, lol. I’m trying to psych myself up to do my weekly Costco run at the moment and I’m absolutely dreading it. I’m sure it’ll be complete chaos, but we really do need our produce and eggs. Sigh.

Juju's avatar

I’m laughing up here in Chicago at all the preparation advice being given. 🀣 60 years I’ve lived with six months of winter every year and three months of several feet of snow, and I’ve not once needed any of the items I’m seeing recommended to prep for the week. 🀣 How did we survive??? πŸ€” It’s kinda cute watching the panic. Luckily this time, for the FIRST time I can remember, they are only forecasting 1-3” for our area. Lolol

Valerie's avatar

Aren’t we silly now? I grew up in Colorado Springs and I don’t remember my parents ever going to the store because bad weather was coming. Not once. My dad did get stuck in the Denver airport and missed Thanksgiving once, though. I also remember jumping off our roof into snowbanks on snow days. Sigh, those were fun times.

Juju's avatar

Ohhh the snow banks! The forts I carved out of them were amazing. We spent HOURS inside our homemade igloos. 🀣 We fashioned couches and chairs and tables too. It was so fun.

Valerie's avatar

I survived Costco. Actually, I was surprised. There were a few people preparing for an apocalypse (and who knows, they might have a business they’re trying to keep open), but most people had a case or two of water and some basic food. We are learning. lol

Jeff S's avatar

Congrats. Now, you can sit back, relax, and enjoy some rotisserie pizza and cheese chicken...

Heb is just as bad in a storm! But I get produce weekly at Costco because we eat so much.
