Yes, Albom was considered a premier sports writer back in his day. When I see this complete collapse into Leftist ideology, I wonder if he has completely gone under or been coerced over the years. His and every media personality out there is to incite, not inform. Sad…
My family and I lived in and I worked in one of the more affluent Detroit suburbs and we still have acquaintances there. I was shocked at the level of overt Biden support during 2020, COVID narrative acceptance, and support for Whitmer prior to the 2022 gubernatorial election. But I also saw that in Flint, Saginaw, Bay City, Lansing, and more obviously in Ann Arbor being the home of the leftist think tank at U of M.
Mitch was always a liberal. That said, it's hard to understand how otherwise intelligent people can devolve into becoming ideological parrots.
I wonder the same about people I know. Could the manipulation of what some people see, hear, and read be so complete, so competent, that they are 'brainwashed' over time? But what about their souls - it seems to me that for the most part our 'side' criticizes policy and action, whereas the other criticizes (or worse) the *person* (or perhaps it only appears that way, as I try to peer around the log blocking my vision). It's clear that the Left categorizes people and 'others' those they want to be in the out-group, but I see a spillover into public comments about individuals who are outwardly similar such as Trump and Biden.
I noticed that. I try to talk about the processes like you said—policies, consequences of those policies but they get right down to personal attacks. I so try not to get personal but all I get back is what’s wrong with me. Of course they have nothing left but that kind of talk. They can’t back anything up. I’m weary in my soul. My life is all I can control.
I think a lot of it is hubris and an almost religious self righteousness. A lack of humility. The need to feel part of the “in” crowd and look down on those who aren’t. For all their constant blathering about “diversity” they hate any thoughts or opinions that stray outside of the prescribed narrative. Diversity of thought is absolutely verboten. It’d be almost comical if it wasn’t so dangerous 😕
I’m from the Saginaw area. Saginaw County is funny. Because of the auto foundries and parts plants that were once here, the city and unionized workers were heavily Democrat. Long gone now many former auto workers are now Conservative. The city remains Liberal but the agricultural areas surrounding it has always leaned Conservative. That hardly matters any longer, unfortunately.
We probably passed by each other at some point. I’m from one of the small towns near Saginaw and I grew up on the agricultural side, but I knew plenty of the foundry dads.

I'm from mid-Michigan... the tri-cities area and still have family there. Agree... can't understand the Biden/Whitmer support and COVID BS.

I'm from Saginaw too! My dad worked at one of the GM foundries.
