There are many people today who all they have is hope. At one time or another we all know that even hope can starve. Every soul you meet has fought a battle we know nothing about. A person that is rude to you may have a sick child. The woman that cuts in line may be rushing to her mother’s death bed, we never know. So the only sensible thing to do is to be kind, always kind, even when you have nothing left to give. Especially then, that’s when it matters most. That’s when you discover what you’re really made of.
Faith isn’t about believing everything will be fine, it’s about believing you’ll be fine even when everything isn’t.
Precious things are meant to be passed along. The promise made when you were in need and someone reached out and helped you, that one day when you’re able you would reach out and help another, is the most precious gift we can pass along. This is how light spreads in dark places. It’s all about passing along the light.
We are all just links in a chain that goes back to the beginning of time and forward to eternity, we’re all just passing it along. Keep the promise, keep helping people and always remember it’s never about money, it’s about that moment when everything seems wrong and someone sees you, really sees you, and reminds you that you matter, that you’re worth saving, that your dignity is sacred, and they helped you. Passing the light continues the chain of human connection.

If so, I urge you to pray for God to help you and speak through you, and do it. I’m 71 years old now, and I had led an extremely immoral and promiscuous life for the first half of it. God had mercy on me and saved me in my 40’s. I was asked to give my testimony at the very large church I was a member of at the time. I have always had terrible stage fright and I was terrified to get up there in front of all those people. I get the physical trembling and cracking of the voice, etc. BUT GOD gave me perfect peace to get up there and read what I had prepared, with a calm that I cannot describe. Do it afraid, but do it. Somebody needs to hear what God has done for you.
Sometimes it’s a Bible verse that penetrates someone’s heart and gives them hope. Sometimes it’s the encouragement of someone who cares about you. Nothing has been able to penetrate mine lately over what I am dealing with personally (and haven’t been sharing,) and it causes me to wake every day with a feeling of dread and despair.
Then comes a simple social media comment that does it more powerfully than I was hoping for.

Being "kind" is extremely hard for many folks, however, if you can get yourself above all the noise and confusion being thrown at us all in order to manipulate our thinking, you will find that being "kind" becomes a way of life that is second nature and not only brings out the best in you, but allows others to awaken to a better way of being in our politically divided society.
We all have a choice in how we relate to others.
I have been alive for over 7 decades and have been manipulated more than I am comfortable with.
Several years ago, after the dregs of humanity, the global elites who control most everything, conspired to "experiment on all us useless eaters" I chose kindness as I didn't know how long I had left on Earth and I wasn't about to risk "not" seeing my folks and my brother who had passed years ago.
My "faith" has enabled me to understand how "kindness" gives me peace, and love for all of my brothers and sisters.
I’m 100% this face to face, no matter the slight or the cruelty by others, in person I have always responded with kindness because it’s so engrained into my heart. In that moment it’s the only way I know how to respond. I really am the nicest person you’ll ever meet, befriend, or abuse in person. It could be misread as meek and compliant even. Excessively concerned with how others feel.
BUT …
… not online. (As you all know 😆) I don’t know what it is about the internet, but maybe it’s because I sense evil and dishonest people who genuinely want to hurt others, or a bot trying to normalize a message that is a lie and is dangerous to the fabric of our communities. I slap it back harshly. They often say “you’d never have the courage to say that in person” and I’d say … they are correct. LOL I wouldn’t. Yeah, social media gives me a shield.
I’m aware that online readers are affected the same way by harsh words online as if in person, and do try to be blunt without the nastiness. I fail more often on X than here, but I have failed here on occasion. I often wonder how “God’s love” and “kindness” would be effective against some of these evil forces we face online. Sometimes blunt truth and harsh rebuke/correction are effective to protect others reading from the sidelines.
I have a spiritual gift of stating the truth in every situation, it’s probably the least popular of the spiritual gifts because many people perceive speaking the truth as not being kind. They don’t understand the inner drive to speak it and their gifts are different, so they harshly judge those of us with mine. They accuse us of “not speaking in love”. Quite often we are, but the receiver does not “hear” it in love. So I can be misread as being unkind. It’s a difficult position, and I’d love to swap it with the gift of prayer or helps if anyone wants to. 🤣
You are a better person than I am, I usually try to be kind and give the person the benefit of the doubt but I also am convinced that there a lot of very entitled people out there just doing things because they think they are better than everyone else and don't have to follow the same rules. I might not say anything directly to them but I certainly grouse to myself and will shoot them a dirty look on occasion :P
I try to find peace, then be peace. Kindness follows and for the a**holes, they wouldn't know it if they tripped over it, so just let them go their unmerry way.

I often, too often, have to ask the Lord to remind me to be humble and loving towards my fellow man when not realizing or cognizant of what they may be enduring in their life. So true.. and for those needing help it’s often those who you least expect to help you turn out to be the angel you were hoping for. I recently learned that I can’t always count on my family. It’s eye-opening, but my friends who have been through hardship are very supportive and kind. I’ve learned a lot about who to ask for help.
The next part of the H1B Visa scam that needs to be addressed is the number of "family members" brought in as soon as the foreign worker gets their Green Card! Microsoft, Amazon, Boeing, et. al get a cheaper worker and we, the American taxpayer, get saddled with the forever cost of their wife, their parents, their in-laws and crazy old Uncle Charlie to boot!
No, they don't qualify for Social Security and Medicare, but they DO get SSI (Supplemental Security Income) and Medicaid, because they are "low income seniors"! And that often adds up to thousands of dollars per month, per household, which is how so many immigrant families can afford million dollar homes, pricing out the young people who grew up in the same area!
All "reunification" policies need to be completely rewritten, immediately! Anyone who wants to bring over family members must agree to assume the care of and pay the living expenses of said persons for LIFE, just as they would be expected to do back home, in most cases! And we need to stop offering 27 different languages for services, too!! Learn English, just like every other group of immigrants was expected to do in the past - PERIOD!! (I am married to the son of legal immigrants and all of these policies were in place when his family arrived and they survived, and even thrived, in their new country, and we need to return to those standards, immediately, IMHO!)

When I lived in Washington, and my son and his wife were still renting in Bellevue, their apartment complex was strewn with parents of highly paid H1B tech workers, many of whom had the habit of cooking pungent asafoetida laced stews out on their decks and patios and polluting the complex almost daily. When their flush tech worker children came by, they parked their luxury model Lexus or BMW in non-guest spots meant for the residents, and acted like they owned the complex.
Meanwhile, at the Bellevue Mall, it was apparent that the demographics of Bellevue, which in the 1980s was filled with courteous blonde Scandinavians and other Northern Europeans, had been supplanted with crowds of rude, pushy Chinese, Indian, and Pakistani tech workers.

I was born and raised in Ballard and you are absolutely correct in your assessment of who was living in Bellevue back in the day! There was a reason that the Nordstrom at Bell Square was so successful, before they started importing cheap crap from China and still charging outrageous prices for it! Thankfully, the family has taken the company back private and I did see an improvement in the quality last time I went there!
And yes, the parents of the "tech sector" are a far bigger issue than most people realize! They qualify for all kinds of "assistance" but most are rude and refuse to acclimate to American culture. I still live just north of Seattle and deal with them often in my daily life. Most do not speak English, and show no interest in learning it!
My in-laws knew when they came here that they were expected to learn the language and the culture! They got jobs, worked hard, and never took one dime of money that they had not earned! It would have never occurred to them to bring over their parents - that was part of the deal when they left their homeland and they knew it! Aunts and uncles came to visit and they went back to their native country when they could afford to do so but that was on them financially and no one ever expected, or demanded, anything else!
Same for the immigrants in my family, all very hard workers who didn't expect anything from this country. They were just willing to work and to prove themselves worthy of the opportunities this country gave them!
My favorite point in your comment is that Nordstrom has been taken back by the family as a private entity. I remember the old pre-megagrowth-Nordstrom so fondly…no need for me to shop there anymore as a retired old lady. But still…

As for Bellevue - when I moved to the Bay Area late ‘80s, it was the fastest growing city in the country.
The old Frederick and Nelson was the best! My mother would take me downtown once a month for their fashion shows on Wednesday afternoons. I was in half day kindergarten and my brother was in second grade, so it was just "girl time". I would get a PB & J and tell her that she couldn't afford anything other than maybe a scarf or a pair of gloves!
And Nordstrom...I worked at a bank on Pill Hill in the early 80s, when they opened the original Rack. I could make it down the hill, through Freeway Park, in 10 minutes, have 30 minutes to shop, and then walk back up, with my treasures, in 20 minutes, all in 4" heels! Great memories!!
Seattle was a magical place in which to grow up and I miss it more than I can say! Wandering the Market, Friday night football games and the Fun Forest at the Seattle Center, taking out of town company to the Locks and the Space Needle and just watching their amazement at the beauty of it all!
I recall when Nordstrom had a piano player during Christmas season. And Nordstrom Christmas party where sparkling wine and small desserts were served to customers (while they got 10x points for purchases).

Ahh, Ballard. We used to go to a big dark club in a basement in Ballard to see bands and comedy, I don't think it's there any more. We ate just down the street at Lombardi's in Ballard before the show. We also ate at Lombardi's frequently when they got a spot at the Everett Marina. (We lived in Snohomish for many years so it was an easy run in to the marina for dinner.
When we lived in Redmond, Nordstrom's was our "presentable clothing" outfitter. Clothes and shoes for the office. Otherwise it was REI.
The owners of Lombardi's championed all of the policies that started the downfall of Seattle and then they hightailed it north once Ballard became dirty and unsafe.
They were among a handful of restaurants in Snohomish County to demand that their employees, AND customers, be fully vaxxed, even though it was only required in King County! Their Bothell location closed a few years ago and I haven't stepped foot into the one at Everett Marina since then!
It is! The entire Demographics of Silicon Valley changed! The housing market skyrockets! They tend to balkanize! Suddenly a neighborhood shopping center anchored by a Wonderful family grocery store with healthy foods has become a slummy Korean Market. The other shops and services go out of business because they lost their demographic. Within a few years limping along, and the parking lot looking more like a WWII minefield, the businesses give up. The neighborhood has lost the local pharmacy, ice cream shop, Pizza place and hair dresser to the gray haired grandmothers' who still remain in the home they purchased when their husbands returned home from war. Nearby fourplexes are now housing multiple families and parking and even the sight of a curb is rare! Fast forward to today, the minefield sits empty and wrapped in cyclone fencing awaiting the wrecking ball and the Mandated High Density Housing "projects" that the Socialist Legislature has demanded be built in every city to house their constituents!
I am in hospitality, and recently had a guest with me for about 6 months. He and his wife are from India, have been here in this country at least 10 years, long enough to buy a home in NC, where they reside, and I'm sure are here on H-1B visas. He is a mechanical engineer, and was in my area on a temporary job assignment. The wife, get this, teaches English to middle schoolers in NC, and was recently promoted to the head of the English department at the middle school. Really? NC can't find any native English speakers to teach the kids English, or be head of the department? Yes, her English is fairly good, but it is her second language, with a heavy accent. Seriously, folks.
We live in NW WA state, and if I go to any medical office or the hospital, I think I am in a foreign country, with so much of the staff from India or somewhere in the Middle East. Fortunately, my own doctor is a sweet local gal, born and raised here. My husband has a doctor that's Egyptian. Go figure! We are losing our national identity and culture.
I have to say, seeing the quality of English used by the teachers I know personally, I am not sure there are that many who are qualified :P We need to bring up our standards! I am consistently disappointed at the poor writing skills of most teachers and at their lack of critical thinking skills :/
And also the amount of grammatical errors in many of the one sentence posts on X. If I see that, I move along. (she says as she starts a sentence with a conjunction)
I understand when people post quickly and don't have time to proofread or autocorrect happens or whatever. But some of the errors I have seen these teachers make on social media posts are ridiculously elementary. It is pretty discouraging.
09/19/26: Nothing wrong with starting a sentence with an "and" if the aim is to break one too-long sentence into two readable ones.
The real crime is starting sentences with the word "But."
"But" is a "slow down" reading signal.
The message at the start of a sentence should be "full speed ahead."
IF it is necessary to use such a word at the start of a sentence, "yet" instead of "but" is much better. Few writers do this.
And God help us with the writers who construct sing-song parades of "[A] ... and ... [B] ... [A] but [B] ... However, [A] and [B]..." sentences."

I only go to American docs/dentists/vets etc. I will not see a foreigner. This is based on wanting to keep Americans employed and not supporting those bilking the system and sucking from us.
My GP referred me to a neurologist a couple of years ago. I did not know what I was getting into because the name was ambivalent. When I got there the guy was wearing a robe and a little crocheted skull cap. The first thing he said to me is that his religion prohibits him from having physical contact with women outside his family. That severely limited the kinds of diagnostic procedures that might benefit me, beginning with routine reflex tests, which were part of my problem. Also, the floor of the office was filthy. I left without a diagnosis and/or explanation of my problem. I never returned and wrote an unhappy letter to the facility's administrative body. That was my Third World medical experience and I had it right here in the US. Shortly thereafter I was referred to a neurologist from my own culture, American, and the situation was resolved.
I empathize Lydia. Similar story here. The office was filthy with instruments left out on the counters used on the previous patients and I could see tissue on some of them. The trash was full and no one took it out. When the doc walked in, I walked out and then told him why. I did not wait to get his reaction. He was from some country in South America.
I am relieved to know you found a doc that got to the root of your issue and resolved the malady. Music to my ears!
I try and do that with everything I purchase, but the medical community has become so captured by the Rockefeller MMM that I have found the most awake and aware doctors are often foreign born. Americans now. Biological dentist moved here from Iran when she was 18. Periodontist was born in Syria, his manager born in Russia. GP is a former gynecologist , American born. For what it's worth.
I agree Roland and many are very very good doctors but my fellow Americans are first and foremost in my heart and I want to support their practices first. If and when they retire and if I can't find a fellow American practice, I would do the same as you.
Perhaps you have the luxury of being able to see a medical practitioner of your personal choice. If so, you are blessed!
I'm on Medicare (i'm 8, and with sufficient income for my "needs" and even some "wants" 😊)
But the Medicare Advantage Plan in my area of Northern California employs a medical group called Brown and Toland. That group has 80-90% foreign providers! And even higher percentage, in their Primary Care choices.
I currently have a PCP whose staff I'm frequently unable to understand on the phone; which they're big on phone calls. 😳
I've had 2 appts with NPs (the practice insisted on them. I assume it's so they can bill Medicare for doctor visits😏) *Keep in mind...i'm in 'Fraudland' aka California.
Both were phone appts of approximately 6 minutes. One was in order to get my [longtime] Rx refilled and the other...to get an Orthopedic referral!
I've never laid eyes on any of them in the practice (which suits me!)
I thank GOD that I'm reasonably healthy and rarely need a doctor. But, unless we are soon Raptured or I am called Home...that will likely change!
Folks should be aware that... at least in CA...Senior medical care for those with limited income is scandalous.
California is not the only state that is scandalous Kathryn. We must all try to stay as healthy as possible, stay out of hospitals and the less Big Harma the better.
It is difficult to find smaller practices and those not corporate owned. My doc is a one man show, his wife is his receptionist and he said if I am every sick and need to be seen on the weekend, he will see me. He is older and an old time kind of doc from yesteryear. I told them how blessed I am to have found them.

Those slaves are some of the wealthiest in the country! They bring over their parents as free childcare. They pool their resources as do the Russian Families. They build family wealth and help fund the purchase of homes near by for the next generation. I have watched it playout in real-time!
My son who moved to TX initially rented a bedroom in one of these houses. It was advertised in a way that led him to believe just he and three other guys would be sharing the house. When we got there it was a young Indian H-1B dude who had his grandparents living with him. The place smelled like Indian spices. Not the good ones. The ones that are strong and permeate the wood and you can never get rid of it. He was confined to a tiny college dorm-sized fridge because of this, and certain areas of the house were off limits. Both my sons were with us helping him move in. The grandfather was overly concerned with who they were, what their successes were, what successes their father had. He was a bit aghast that my husband was just an electrician but I had a successful son in the same field as his grandson. 🤣 He told me all the successes of his sons and grandsons and how they owned at least 7 properties so far and 3 businesses. He was extraordinarily arrogant. It was all he could talk about. They placed half the properties in their sons’ and grandsons’ names, rent out rooms to pay down the mortgage, and just keep selling and upgrading and creating family wealth with the equity. But the thing is this guy’s parents stayed in India and all the wealth created here is sent back there to make them wealthy there.
My son moved out thirty days later into his own apartment.
He found one roommate in the past year and still needs two more. But the market is so saturated with more housing than renters. I think some people get trapped into those circumstances and can’t move out as fast as my son did.
It’s not that it isn’t a smart thing to do. I’ve encouraged my son to buy a house as soon as he is able and rent rooms to other single guys and it will help build his equity allowing him to save more and pay it down faster. But that money stays in our country benefitting an American who will turn around and benefit other Americans.

When I worked with international students, I had very few pursue H1-B visa status. One I do remember came to the US from PRC. She took a few entry level accy courses, and applied to a firm in California, as an accountant. She was hired as an accountant and granted H1-B visa status. Clearly, she was neither qualified (except as a bookkeeper) nor filling a position that there were too few US native applicants.

I hope one of the first companies the Wage and Hour Division investigates for past H-1B abuses is Disney. I still remember them replacing employees years ago with foreign workers and making the U.S. workers train their replacements. If they didn't, they lost their termination package. It was outrageous.
In 2010, I suffered my first-ever layoff when Nielsen Media Research decided that imported Indian programmers could handle its necessary software development as good as or better than the (mostly-)Americans who were currently fulfilling that task. As part of our 'severance package', we were required to train our replacements in a software architecture that was -- for lack of a better term -- unique in all the visible universe.
I was, at the time, 63 and already contemplating retiring, so being laid-off wasn't the worst thing that could have happened to me, but among the group that felt the axe, I was one of very few who were smiling.

My friend’s S-I-L lost his IT job the same way but he was mid 40’s and had young children at the time. His wife’s job is carrying the family now as he has not been able to re-enter the job market in that field.
That’s certainly demeaning but having worked with a few subcontinental IT folk that training was likely not as fruitful as management assumed simply because most Indians will always pretend to have understood something rather than ask or admit they aren’t really ready to take over for cultural reasons.
Sometimes has pretty hilarious results where they will build a mock-up and pretend it’s the finished item, management can’t tell the difference because they laid off the people who would spot it right away. Then those guys come back as consultants at 4 times the cost.

Plus, they don't have to pay benefits. They only pay for the particular function they want done, and then the former employee is back to precariousness.

Let’s not forget that even farther back in history when clothing manufacturers started moving factories outside the US, I read stories of people packing up sewing machine equipment and having to type up how to use instructions for their foreign replacements. Recently my youngest son got a job at a nearby factory. He only lasted 3 weeks. His biggest complaint was that no one spoke English. He doesn’t speak Spanish. Even his direct boss only spoke broken English making instructions difficult to understand. It was intolerable.
Every time I call a customer service number for an American company, most of the time foreigners answer the phones and don't live in the US. When I ask where they are, its India or the Philippines most of the time.
I switched banks to Old Glory Bank, and every customer service call is answered by a happy American wanting to be helpful in every way, easy to understand. Length of each call is 1/10 of the calls I placed to past banks or companies like AT&T. It’s so dreamy. I love my new bank

My son has to take a communications course to graduate college. He went to 1st class. Instructor was from Nigeria and had such a thick accent that my son couldn’t understand a word he said. I have a former maga family member that has been throughly blackpilled by certain social media ‘influencers’. He lives in another state so thankfully we don’t have to be around him. We keep our relationship going, but never talk politics. Hubs is a software procurement guy for some big guns. He was the highest / best they’ve had, in both volume and monetary terms, with one of the highest “savings on the deal” rates. Every one of his upper bosses are still scratching their heads as to why he was let go, along with 3000 other employees. They wrote glowing recommendation letters for him.
But… this company is known for wide sweeping lay offs every few years, so here we are. They have him a terrific severance package, which is very helpful. Nonetheless, it came as quite a blow.
I think his former company may be a BIGGIE in the whole ‘displace and replace’ race. Idk… That’s just what many of the old timers at his company say, though none have had that phrasing.
(I would mention the name if I knew 100% it wouldn’t backfire on him somehow.)

There are many people today who all they have is hope. At one time or another we all know that even hope can starve. Every soul you meet has fought a battle we know nothing about. A person that is rude to you may have a sick child. The woman that cuts in line may be rushing to her mother’s death bed, we never know. So the only sensible thing to do is to be kind, always kind, even when you have nothing left to give. Especially then, that’s when it matters most. That’s when you discover what you’re really made of.
Faith isn’t about believing everything will be fine, it’s about believing you’ll be fine even when everything isn’t.
Precious things are meant to be passed along. The promise made when you were in need and someone reached out and helped you, that one day when you’re able you would reach out and help another, is the most precious gift we can pass along. This is how light spreads in dark places. It’s all about passing along the light.
We are all just links in a chain that goes back to the beginning of time and forward to eternity, we’re all just passing it along. Keep the promise, keep helping people and always remember it’s never about money, it’s about that moment when everything seems wrong and someone sees you, really sees you, and reminds you that you matter, that you’re worth saving, that your dignity is sacred, and they helped you. I have reflected and discovered every time I failed, God gave me something better down the road if I kept moving forward. I was relieved as a Company Commander, a career killer. God had mercy on me and saved me in my 40’s. I was asked to give my testimony at the very large church I was a member of at the time. I have always had terrible stage fright and I was terrified to get up there in front of all those people. I get the physical trembling and cracking of the voice, etc. BUT GOD gave me perfect peace to get up there and read what I had prepared, with a calm that I cannot describe. Do it afraid, but do it. Somebody needs to hear what God has done for you.

Sometimes it’s a Bible verse that penetrates someone’s heart and gives them hope. Sometimes it’s the encouragement of someone who cares about you. Nothing has been able to penetrate mine lately over what I am dealing with personally (and haven’t been sharing,) and it causes me to wake every day with a feeling of dread and despair.

Being "kind" is extremely hard for many folks, however, if you can get yourself above all the noise and confusion being thrown at us all in order to manipulate our thinking, you will find that being "kind" becomes a way of life that is second nature and not only brings out the best in you, but allows others to awaken to a better way of being in our politically divided society.

I have been alive for over 7 decades and have been manipulated more than I am comfortable with.

(As you all know 😆) I don’t know what it is about the internet, but maybe it’s because I sense evil and dishonest people who genuinely want to hurt others, or a bot trying to normalize a message that is a lie and is dangerous to the fabric of our communities. I slap it back harshly. They often say “you’d never have the courage to say that in person” and I’d say … they are correct. LOL I wouldn’t. Yeah, social media gives me a shield.
I’m aware that online readers are affected the same way by harsh words online as if in person, and do try to be blunt without the nastiness. I fail more often on X than here, but I have failed here on occasion. I often wonder how “God’s love” and “kindness” would be effective against some of these evil forces we face online. Sometimes blunt truth and harsh rebuke/correction are effective to protect others reading from the sidelines.
I have a spiritual gift of stating the truth in every situation, it’s probably the least popular of the spiritual gifts because many people perceive speaking the truth as not being kind. They don’t understand the inner drive to speak it and their gifts are different, so they harshly judge those of us with mine. They accuse us of “not speaking in love”. Quite often we are, but the receiver does not “hear” it in love. So I can be misread as being unkind. It’s a difficult position, and I’d love to swap it with the gift of prayer or helps if anyone wants to. 🤣
You are a better person than I am, I usually try to be kind and give the person the benefit of the doubt but I also am convinced that there a lot of very entitled people out there just doing things because they think they are better than everyone else and don't have to follow the same rules. I might not say anything directly to them but I certainly grouse to myself and will shoot them a dirty look on occasion :P
Most "entitled" people that I have met are very lonely, even though they would argue they are not.
I go the extra mile for being kind to those folks as they are more in need of a little bit of kindness than others.

So true.. and for those needing help it’s often those who you least expect to help you turn out to be the angel you were hoping for. I recently learned that I can’t always count on my family. It’s eye-opening, but my friends who have been through hardship are very supportive and kind. I’ve learned a lot about who to ask for help.
The next part of the H1B Visa scam that needs to be addressed is the number of "family members" brought in as soon as the foreign worker gets their Green Card! Microsoft, Amazon, Boeing, et. al get a cheaper worker and we, the American taxpayer, get saddled with the forever cost of their wife, their parents, their in-laws and crazy old Uncle Charlie to boot!
No, they don't qualify for Social Security and Medicare, but they DO get SSI (Supplemental Security Income) and Medicaid, because they are "low income seniors"! And that often adds up to thousands of dollars per month, per household, which is how so many immigrant families can afford million dollar homes, pricing out the young people who grew up in the same area!
All "reunification" policies need to be completely rewritten, immediately! Anyone who wants to bring over family members must agree to assume the care of and pay the living expenses of said persons for LIFE, just as they would be expected to do back home, in most cases! And we need to stop offering 27 different languages for services, too!! Learn English, just like every other group of immigrants was expected to do in the past - PERIOD!! (I am married to the son of legal immigrants and all of these policies were in place when his family arrived and they survived, and even thrived, in their new country, and we need to return to those standards, immediately, IMHO!)
That is an important point. When I lived in Washington, and my son and his wife were still renting in Bellevue, their apartment complex was strewn with parents of highly paid H1B tech workers, many of whom had the habit of cooking pungent asafoetida laced stews out on their decks and patios and polluting the complex almost daily. When their flush tech worker children came by, they parked their luxury model Lexus or BMW in non-guest spots meant for the residents, and acted like they owned the complex.
Meanwhile, at the Bellevue Mall, it was apparent that the demographics of Bellevue, which in the 1980s was filled with courteous blonde Scandinavians and other Northern Europeans, had been supplanted with crowds of rude, pushy Chinese, Indian, and Pakistani tech workers.
I had to look up “ asafoetida” and the dictionary describes it as “fetid”, which means “stinking”, for those of you in Portland or Rio Linda. Yuck.
Well, in Indian curries, a little goes a long way. In most American locations, Indian restaurants omit it from recipes.

I was born and raised in Ballard and you are absolutely correct in your assessment of who was living in Bellevue back in the day! There was a reason that the Nordstrom at Bell Square was so successful, before they started importing cheap crap from China and still charging outrageous prices for it! Thankfully, the family has taken the company back private and I did see an improvement in the quality last time I went there!
And yes, the parents of the "tech sector" are a far bigger issue than most people realize! They qualify for all kinds of "assistance" but most are rude and refuse to acclimate to American culture. I still live just north of Seattle and deal with them often in my daily life. Most do not speak English, and show no interest in learning it!
My in-laws knew when they came here that they were expected to learn the language and the culture! They got jobs, worked hard, and never took one dime of money that they had not earned! It would have never occurred to them to bring over their parents - that was part of the deal when they left their homeland and they knew it! Aunts and uncles came to visit and they went back to their native country when they could afford to do so but that was on them financially and no one ever expected, or demanded, anything else!
Same for the immigrants in my family, all very hard workers who didn't expect anything from this country. They were just willing to work and to prove themselves worthy of the opportunities this country gave them!
My favorite point in your comment is that Nordstrom has been taken back by the family as a private entity. I remember the old pre-megagrowth-Nordstrom so fondly…no need for me to shop there anymore as a retired old lady. But still…

As for Bellevue - when I moved to the Bay Area late ‘80s, it was the fastest growing city in the country.
The old Frederick and Nelson was the best! My mother would take me downtown once a month for their fashion shows on Wednesday afternoons. I was in half day kindergarten and my brother was in second grade, so it was just "girl time". I would get a PB & J and tell her that she couldn't afford anything other than maybe a scarf or a pair of gloves!
And Nordstrom...I worked at a bank on Pill Hill in the early 80s, when they opened the original Rack. I could make it down the hill, through Freeway Park, in 10 minutes, have 30 minutes to shop, and then walk back up, with my treasures, in 20 minutes, all in 4" heels! Great memories!!
Seattle was a magical place in which to grow up and I miss it more than I can say! Wandering the Market, Friday night football games and the Fun Forest at the Seattle Center, taking out of town company to the Locks and the Space Needle and just watching their amazement at the beauty of it all!
I recall when Nordstrom had a piano player during Christmas season. And Nordstrom Christmas party where sparkling wine and small desserts were served to customers (while they got 10x points for purchases).
My cousin worked at the Bon Marche for about 20 years in Seattle. She would always give us Frangos at Christmas. Yum.

Ahh, Ballard. We used to go to a big dark club in a basement in Ballard to see bands and comedy, I don't think it's there any more. We ate just down the street at Lombardi's in Ballard before the show. We also ate at Lombardi's frequently when they got a spot at the Everett Marina. (We lived in Snohomish for many years so it was an easy run in to the marina for dinner.
When we lived in Redmond, Nordstrom's was our "presentable clothing" outfitter. Clothes and shoes for the office. Otherwise it was REI.
The owners of Lombardi's championed all of the policies that started the downfall of Seattle and then they hightailed it north once Ballard became dirty and unsafe.
They were among a handful of restaurants in Snohomish County to demand that their employees, AND customers, be fully vaxxed, even though it was only required in King County! Their Bothell location closed a few years ago and I haven't stepped foot into the one at Everett Marina since then!

It is! The entire Demographics of Silicon Valley changed! The housing market skyrockets! They tend to balkanize! Suddenly a neighborhood shopping center anchored by a Wonderful family grocery store with healthy foods has become a slummy Korean Market. The other shops and services go out of business because they lost their demographic. Within a few years limping along, and the parking lot looking more like a WWII minefield, the businesses give up. The neighborhood has lost the local pharmacy, ice cream shop, Pizza place and hair dresser to the gray haired grandmothers' who still remain in the home they purchased when their husbands returned home from war. Nearby fourplexes are now housing multiple families and parking and even the sight of a curb is rare! Fast forward to today, the minefield sits empty and wrapped in cyclone fencing awaiting the wrecking ball and the Mandated High Density Housing "projects" that the Socialist Legislature has demanded be built in every city to house their constituents!

I am in hospitality, and recently had a guest with me for about 6 months. He and his wife are from India, have been here in this country at least 10 years, long enough to buy a home in NC, where they reside, and I'm sure are here on H-1B visas. He is a mechanical engineer, and was in my area on a temporary job assignment. The wife, get this, teaches English to middle schoolers in NC, and was recently promoted to the head of the English department at the middle school. Really? NC can't find any native English speakers to teach the kids English, or be head of the department? Yes, her English is fairly good, but it is her second language, with a heavy accent. Seriously, folks.
We live in NW WA state, and if I go to any medical office or the hospital, I think I am in a foreign country, with so much of the staff from India or somewhere in the Middle East. Fortunately, my own doctor is a sweet local gal, born and raised here. My husband has a doctor that's Egyptian. Go figure! We are losing our national identity and culture.
I have to say, seeing the quality of English used by the teachers I know personally, I am not sure there are that many who are qualified :P We need to bring up our standards! I am consistently disappointed at the poor writing skills of most teachers and at their lack of critical thinking skills :/
And also the amount of grammatical errors in many of the one sentence posts on X. If I see that, I move along. (she says as she starts a sentence with a conjunction)
I understand when people post quickly and don't have time to proofread or autocorrect happens or whatever. But some of the errors I have seen these teachers make on social media posts are ridiculously elementary. It is pretty discouraging.
09/19/26: Nothing wrong with starting a sentence with an "and" if the aim is to break one too-long sentence into two readable ones.
The real crime is starting sentences with the word "But."
"But" is a "slow down" reading signal.
The message at the start of a sentence should be "full speed ahead."
IF it is necessary to use such a word at the start of a sentence, "yet" instead of "but" is much better. Few writers do this.
And God help us with the writers who construct sing-song parades of "[A] ... and ... [B] ... [A] but [B] ... However, [A] and [B]..." sentences."

I only go to American docs/dentists/vets etc. I will not see a foreigner. This is based on wanting to keep Americans employed and not supporting those bilking the system and sucking from us.
My GP referred me to a neurologist a couple of years ago. I did not know what I was getting into because the name was ambivalent. When I got there the guy was wearing a robe and a little crocheted skull cap. The first thing he said to me is that his religion prohibits him from having physical contact with women outside his family. That severely limited the kinds of diagnostic procedures that might benefit me, beginning with routine reflex tests, which were part of my problem. Also, the floor of the office was filthy. I left without a diagnosis and/or explanation of my problem. I never returned and wrote an unhappy letter to the facility's administrative body. That was my Third World medical experience and I had it right here in the US. Shortly thereafter I was referred to a neurologist from my own culture, American, and the situation was resolved.
I empathize Lydia. Similar story here. The office was filthy with instruments left out on the counters used on the previous patients and I could see tissue on some of them. The trash was full and no one took it out. When the doc walked in, I walked out and then told him why. I did not wait to get his reaction. He was from some country in South America.
I am relieved to know you found a doc that got to the root of your issue and resolved the malady. Music to my ears!
I try and do that with everything I purchase, but the medical community has become so captured by the Rockefeller MMM that I have found the most awake and aware doctors are often foreign born. Americans now. Biological dentist moved here from Iran when she was 18. Periodontist was born in Syria, his manager born in Russia. GP is a former gynecologist , American born. For what it's worth.
I agree Roland and many are very very good doctors but my fellow Americans are first and foremost in my heart and I want to support their practices first. If and when they retire and if I can't find a fellow American practice, I would do the same as you.
Perhaps you have the luxury of being able to see a medical practitioner of your personal choice. If so, you are blessed!

But the Medicare Advantage Plan in my area of Northern California employs a medical group called Brown and Toland. That group has 80-90% foreign providers! And even higher percentage, in their Primary Care choices.
I currently have a PCP whose staff I'm frequently unable to understand on the phone; which they're big on phone calls. 😳
I've had 2 appts with NPs (the practice insisted on them. I assume it's so they can bill Medicare for doctor visits😏) *Keep in mind...i'm in 'Fraudland' aka California.
Both were phone appts of approximately 6 minutes. One was in order to get my [longtime] Rx refilled and the other...to get an Orthopedic referral!
I've never laid eyes on any of them in the practice (which suits me!)
I thank GOD that I'm reasonably healthy and rarely need a doctor. But, unless we are soon Raptured or I am called Home...that will likely change!
Folks should be aware that... at least in CA...Senior medical care for those with limited income is scandalous.
California is not the only state that is scandalous Kathryn. We must all try to stay as healthy as possible, stay out of hospitals and the less Big Harma the better.
It is difficult to find smaller practices and those not corporate owned. My doc is a one man show, his wife is his receptionist and he said if I am every sick and need to be seen on the weekend, he will see me. He is older and an old time kind of doc from yesteryear. I told them how blessed I am to have found them.
I await Rapture too. I am currently watching The Chosen which is a beautiful reminder what Jesus did for us. Please take good care Kathryn and keep healthy!

He was extraordinarily arrogant. It was all he could talk about. They placed half the properties in their sons’ and grandsons’ names, rent out rooms to pay down the mortgage, and just keep selling and upgrading and creating family wealth with the equity. But the thing is this guy’s parents stayed in India and all the wealth created here is sent back there to make them wealthy there.
My son moved out thirty days later into his own apartment.
He found one roommate in the past year and still needs two more. But the market is so saturated with more housing than renters. I think some people get trapped into those circumstances and can’t move out as fast as my son did.

She took a few entry level accy courses, and applied to a firm in California, as an accountant. She was hired as an accountant and granted H1-B visa status. NMR, of course, had a multitude of reasons for replacing greybeard IT-folk with youngsters from the subcontinent, but everyone knew the real reason was salary costs.

It is, but as MoT notes (below, I think) such training is often, for cultural reasons, less effective than management intended. There is an element of historical perspective that cannot, for practical purposes, be imparted in the span of months, and the insights developed over the course of (sometimes) decades walks out the door, without a functioning backup.
My friend’s S-I-L lost his IT job the same way but he was mid 40’s and had young children at the time. His wife’s job is carrying the family now as he has not been able to re-enter the job market in that field.
That’s certainly demeaning but having worked with a few subcontinental IT folk that training was likely not as fruitful as management assumed simply because most Indians will always pretend to have understood something rather than ask or admit they aren’t really ready to take over for cultural reasons.
Sometimes has pretty hilarious results where they will build a mock-up and pretend it’s the finished item, management can’t tell the difference because they laid off the people who would spot it right away. Then those guys come back as consultants at 4 times the cost.

Trump is so brilliant we are over 200 days into the 4 day war.
Recently my youngest son got a job at a nearby factory. He only lasted 3 weeks. His biggest complaint was that no one spoke English. He doesn’t speak Spanish. Even his direct boss only spoke broken English making instructions difficult to understand. It was intolerable.
Every time I call a customer service number for an American company, most of the time foreigners answer the phones and don't live in the US. When I ask where they are, its India or the Philippines most of the time.
I switched banks to Old Glory Bank, and every customer service call is answered by a happy American wanting to be helpful in every way, easy to understand. Length of each call is 1/10 of the calls I placed to past banks or companies like AT&T. It’s so dreamy. I love my new bank

I have a problem at my local grocery store, finding someone who can answer a question about the location of an item in the aisles. They only speak Spanish.
My son has to take a communications course to graduate college. He went to 1st class. Instructor was from Nigeria and had such a thick accent that my son couldn’t understand a word he said. I would think the first rule of communications is to be able to effectively communicate which he couldn’t. My son dropped it. He’s going to take it online which ironic too because what are you communicating about in an online class? The world has gone crazy.

This is terrible advice bordering on retardation. Kalshi and Polymarket lines are based in what people are betting. Right now Polymarket odds are +61% Dems for the Senate and +91% Dems for the House. Odds are moving in favor of Dems, it was only a few months ago that R’s were plus for the Senate.

I often wonder about the black-pill crowd. I suppose some of the MAGA dissenters might be genuine in their beliefs, though I suspect they were carefully targeted and their errant views exquisitely curated by their handlers.
Others betray MAGA just to be contrarians and buttholes. They probably get paid handsomely in the process.
Still others are actual wolves in sheep's clothing, dedicated comrades in the deep-state hive mind.
I think a lot of them are just sore losers - Karl Rove and W come to mind. I do t think they actually hate the US like Brennan et al do. They just want to keep their gravy train in tact and if that makes it tough for average Americans - so be it. Trump really is looking out for the average American and that cuts into their $$$
I have a former maga family member that has been throughly blackpilled by certain social media ‘influencers’. I couldn’t have been more shocked when he started believing & spewing garbage & outright lies against Trump. ( “he’s a pedophile” for ex. ). At first we tried to be rational with him, recommending he read C&C for good information. So far no change.
He lives in another state so thankfully we don’t have to be around him. We keep our relationship going, but never talk politics. To his credit he goes along so the relationship (adult son) is not completely damaged, but no longer close 🙁. He’s always in our prayers as it seems something bad has gotten ahold of him.
Some people just go with whatever they hear or whatever seems to be the trend. That is very frustrating.
Very disappointing. He’s old enough to know better. Something has got ahold of him in the last 8 months. That’s why we pray.
He needs prayers most of all.

As the wife of a man who was just laid off from a HUGE tech company you ALL would likely know, I am chuffed abt this H-1B development. I could kiss Trump’s little cheeto toes!
Hubs is a software procurement guy for some big guns. He was the highest / best they’ve had, in both volume and monetary terms, with one of the highest “savings on the deal” rates. Every one of his upper bosses are still scratching their heads as to why he was let go, along with 3000 other employees. They wrote glowing recommendation letters for him.
But… this company is known for wide sweeping lay offs every few years, so here we are. They have him a terrific severance package, which is very helpful. Nonetheless, it came as quite a blow.
I think his former company may be a BIGGIE in the whole ‘displace and replace’ race. Idk… That’s just what many of the old timers at his company say, though none have had that phrasing.
(I would mention the name if I knew 100% it wouldn’t backfire on him somehow.)

A very high percentage of successful startups happened because someone who was comfortable employed was forced into their discomfort zone.
My exact thoughts… My dad became an entrepreneur when he was laid off as an executive at Mead. He made a LOT of money— being an exterminator! Getting laid off when he was older made him wealthy.
