I made it to the fourth paragraph before I recalled today's date. Because....it IS because of today's date. Right? Right?!

Melissa Collins's avatar

🤣😅🤣😅🤣 I had to get to the dog biscuit fed to the puzzle before I got it!!!!!

WTPuck's avatar

But you must admit that is within the realm of possibility, given the subject.

That's exactly what makes a good April Fools' joke work. I've pulled off many in my younger days all because what I was telling people was completely believable...until it wasn't!

WP William's avatar

DEMS suddenly became so very Agist and Elder-phobic since the stammering tongue-tied Biden-Trump debate in June of 2024. They'll recover from it as soon as they have another opportunity to support an old sick white guy who's being challenged by an energetic Conservative of color. The highest principle of a Democrat is to have no principles.

Laura Scott's avatar

I was hooked - Biden running ?!

Jane Tracy's avatar

I got it earlier than the puzzle because I said to myself”what a joke!” and bzz bzz, the light 💡 came on….April fools

Same! Also had a mini heart attack when I began reading. 😁

I kind of hoped it was true. The entertainment would be off the charts!

Anyone who has read C&C for any period of time over a year should have expected this from Jeff, yet he's SO GOOD at what he does! 😁

I’ve been reading Jeff for 4 or 5 years, have never missed a post. And yet….. I didn’t clue in til the dog biscuit. Am I proud of my gullibility? No I’m not. 😅

I made it almost to the end before light dawned, but then I totally fell for the NPR radio piece years ago (when it was not so biased) about maple trees in New England exploding if they weren’t tapped in time. I mean, I TOTALLY fell for it. Shared it with my family when they all got home, and they merely looked at me meaningfully and asked me the date.

Hahaha. I made it the end of that first paragraph and said to myself “wait a minute” !! Hahaha. I got April Fooled.

A Biden rerun is entirely plausible, coming from the asshat collection that is today's Democrat Party.

I would not put it past the Democrats to support it … they did when was going to run for a second term… he was brain dead then.

WP William's avatar

Not fooled for a moment by Jeff's opening Babylon Bee-ish 2028 Big Guy Comeback coverage...now if it had been Hunter Biden or Dr. Jill Biden instead of old sick Joe, then yes, it would have been believable.

Guess the pope knows zip about the history of God’s chosen people and how many wars they had to wage, and many times because the Lord directed them to do so. Hard facts. War is awful, we all agree.

John Henry Holliday, DDS's avatar

God sent His son to, and through, His Chosen People. The humble and wise ones followed the teachings of Christ. The others persecuted Jesus and his followers. God gave them a full generation to follow the Truth. In 70 AD, Titus destroyed the Temple and the faith that was centered on that.

Cousin Clem's avatar

"God's chosen people"....oy vey, that's some God. Picking It's favorites and to hell with everyone else. Pretty petty God.

RevMikeyMac's avatar

Nowhere in scripture does God express that attitude toward "the nations." He chose the Jewish people (through Abraham) to bring blessing to the nations, by revealing God's holiness, wisdom and character before them. His purpose was to reach the nations through the Hebrews. They failed at that, but God knew they would; he already had a further, more comprehensive plan for the salvation of the nations; Jesus the Messiah, descendant of Abraham.

'Nuff said, if you don't understand this, you just don't (want to) get it.

Cousin Clem's avatar

Thanks Rev. I understand what you say and you are correct. I don't get it. All of it makes God like a comic book character plotting It's next move. Everyone can speak to God. Like Madge said, "you're soaking in it now." No chosen people or Messiahs needed. But to each his own belief. Best to you

I currently attend 9am Mass (for past 1.5 years) and 11am Protestant services which my wife and I have attended for 20 years. Catholicism is my origin faith, and after my Mom passed it’s where I go to feel close to her. I also had the opportunity to walk St. James Camino last year which was so wonderful and healing. Catholic Mass now enriches my life in ways hard to describe, and not like before when I was a teenager. There is nostalgia for sure, but also a beauty of worshiping our King with a cross section of my community that I don’t experience at Protestant church.

Pope Leo seems to be bending the knee to Islam.

I'd be cautious taking direction from him.

Islam teaches violence and death to non muslims. How can he contradict himself so brazenly? You can't condemn war and champion Islam when they are self professed jihadists who want to take over the world for Allah 🤡

Why hasn't he condemned violence towards women trapped in Islam?

Shame on him for affirming Islamic beliefs.

Julie Ann B's avatar

Where in the Bible, which is God’s Word, did the pope find that quote? There is no credibility in the papacy.

CaplT's avatar

If he is talking to everyone, ok. If he’s singling out one “side,” not ok. No one is clean, so Popes have traditionally spoken to both/all sides of conflicts arms to appeal to each to make peace. They had also seemed to be much more in the know about who was doing to whom clandestinely. They didn’t follow mainstream news.

Article I, Section 4, Clause 1 of the Constitution:

“The Times, Places and Manner of holding Elections for Senators and Representatives, shall be prescribed in each State by the Legislature thereof.”

Katherine Clark

👆🏾👆🏾👆🏾👆🏾

“Wrong.

The Elections Clause gives states the initial role to set time, place and manner, but expressly authorizes Congress to enact nationwide rules for federal elections (House and Senate races), including voter registration, list maintenance, fraud prevention, and ballot procedures.

The Supreme Court has interpreted “manner” broadly to include “notices, registration, supervision of voting, protection of voters, prevention of fraud and corrupt practices,” etc.

The Help America Vote Act imposes mandatory minimum federal standards on states (e.g., statewide computerized voter registration lists, provisional ballots, and election administration improvements) and provides federal grants (“requirements payments”) explicitly conditioned on compliance. States must submit plans showing how they meet these standards to receive funding.

The National Voter Registration was also enacted under the Elections Clause. It mandates that states maintain accurate voter rolls (“list maintenance”), offer registration at certain agencies, and accept a federal mail-registration form. Courts have upheld NVRA provisions as valid under the Elections Clause precisely because they target voter eligibility verification and roll accuracy.

Trump’s EO explicitly cites both HAVA and NVRA as authority. It does not create new substantive rules from scratch; it directs federal agencies to implement and enhance existing federal statutory requirements using federal databases (SSA records, DHS’s SAVE program).

Moreover, Congress’s power under Article I, Section 8 to tax and spend for the general welfare includes the ability to attach conditions to federal grants to states. This is classic conditional spending, upheld in South Dakota v. Dole (1987): conditions must be unambiguous, related to the federal interest (here, integrity of federal elections), and not coercive.

- HAVA already does exactly this—grants are withheld or conditioned on states meeting federal election-administration standards.

- The EO (Section 5) authorizes withholding “federal funds from noncompliant states/localities where authorized by law.” This is not a new commandeering of state legislatures; states can decline the funds (and the attached conditions) if they wish. Precedent confirms Congress (and the executive administering congressional appropriations) can use the purse to encourage compliance without directly dictating state election codes.

Finally, Trump’s EO’s core mechanisms operate through federal entities like the post office, not state legislatures:

- USPS rulemaking directs the Postmaster General to require barcoded, trackable “Official Election Mail” envelopes and to transmit ballots only to voters on the federal/state-verified Mail-In/Absentee Participation Lists. USPS is a federal agency; the President may direct its operations via executive order. States are not forced to change their own mailing processes—they simply cannot use federal postal service for non-compliant ballots if they want the service.

This avoids the anti-commandeering doctrine (Printz v. United States, 1997), which prohibits the federal government from forcing state officials to enforce federal law. Here, the federal government is regulating its own property (mail) and funds.

Once Congress has acted (via HAVA/NVRA), federal requirements preempt conflicting state practices for federal elections.

The democrats are toast.”

ViaVeritasVita's avatar

One did have to wonder, at the time, just why the Congress and the USPS were exempted from the jab mandates—if those jabs were so very important to human health….And some Congressmen took it anyway—-the teenaged daughter of one took jab and died. Since COVID the mail doesn't get delivered in a timely manner. It takes up to 10 days now for mail to go across the country when it used to take a couple of days. And mail to someone in my own county takes up to a week because now it has to travel to a special located to be sorted before it turns around and comes back.

In Memphis, mail delivery was so bad in covid that when my sons were getting married in 2023, I UPS'd their rehearsal dinner invitations in a box to my sister in Nashville and she put them in Nashville USPS & they all were delivered. Mail may be bad all over, but it's super bad in some locations. New Orleans the same.

Drowning in a Sea of Babel's avatar

Especially in local elections where literally a few hundred or thousand votes make the difference. Interestingly, especially in DA races where the 'winners' were heavily funded by Soros associated groups. In purple areas that is a huge deal and sufficient to shift to blue. My R husband ran in 2022, well known from years as prosecutor and on the bench, well respected and heavily favored by even many Democrats because the D candidate was so bad yet somehow lost to that guy. Partial recount yielded some very odd patterns. Any way the election process can be tightened up will at the very least, restore some confidence in the outcomes and make it harder for fraudulent meddling.

Separate federal and state mail-in ballots is not a hardship nor does it require brain surgery to enact.

South Dakota has separate "Federal voter" ballots for those who live in RVs and barely touch SD soil most of the year. This enables them to participate in federal elections that do impact them, while cleaving them from state elections that do not. https://legiscan.com/SD/text/HB1208/2025

The point is: It's not a big deal to separate federal from state balloting, regardless of the particular state's reason.

Fabes55's avatar

Agreed. States already print separate ballots for D, R and I (or undeclared) registered voters. And they're already printed up in what, 15 different languages?

Tiny basket of deplorable's avatar

"Conversion therapy" -- more a dysphemism than a euphemism, IMO. Unlike such gently insidious terms as "gender-affirming care" or "revenue enhancement", the term "conversion therapy" seeks to demonize the specialist who is trying, by actually TALKING to the young dysphoric patient. Not to "convert", but to find out what ELSE might be going on in the young person's head BEFORE any irreversible medical intervention happens.

Talking. Debating. Always a problem for the "gender-affirming" crowd.

Navyo Ericsen's avatar

Surgical Gender Mutilation... or sit-down and chat about it first, understand why you're confused or just being an adolescent. And yet the first is called 'care' and the second is 'dangerous' and 'prejudiced'.

Richard Whitney's avatar

The ironic thing is that they are transing a lot of gay kids, and the "conversion therapy" line comes from the old days when they tried to teach gay kids to be straight.

Now they just drug and mutilate them.

And idiot liberals support that because of the label. Propaganda works.
