Exactly. They knew what’s up. I’m seeing more churches by us incorporating more fasts with their congregations and I’m loving it.

It's interesting isn't it, that versions other than KJV (NIV, ESB, etc) of the Bible completely leave out THIS (among many others) verse Matthew 17:21?

Matthew 17:19‭-‬21 KJV

19Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out? 20And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you. 21Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and *fasting*.

Not really that odd for the verse. It's not in the earliest manuscripts they've found so those versions put in a footnote indicating that it's not found and omit the verse. ESV goes from v20 -> v22 but includes a footnote about the manuscripts. Modern versions do similar with other passages that don't show up everywhere. I think the end of Mark IIRC.

Not saying that fasting isn't important and has uses - totally agree with that - just that a verse not showing up in more modern translations usually just means that as people find earlier manuscripts the scholars may choose to omit those verses and put a footnote in its place.

Our favorite Bible scholar, Janice, uses an app called Literal Word, which is only NASB95. It also includes that verse.

My goodness you are right! I have been (since April) reading the KJV 1611. Just now compared that to my RSV (which I've had since childhood)--RSV completely omits verse 21--goes from v 20 to 22. I never noticed before! But the x footnote does say that 'other ancient authorities insert verse 21...."
