I've read Confessions and 2 of the Kennedy books. I saw JFK when I was 18 at the movie theater with my parents. It made quite an impression on me.
With that said, if you look into when the DOJ was created and by whom (arguably the most corrupt president in US history), you realize the pervasive corruption in that institution was a feature, not a bug. Both the FBI and DOJ were created to attack political enemies and exonerate political favorites. There is nothing 'American' or Constitutional about either of those are any other 3 letter agency. Nothing will change until they are all abolished.
If you take a tour of the Book Depository in Dallas or take a private tour retracing the entire motorcade route on the day of the assassination of JFK, the guides and exhibits leave little doubt in the role of the CIA in this horrible tragedy.
