He'd quietly appear at certain local restaurants and coffee shops, trying to give the impression of being just a local, like the rest of us. I've been inches away from him more than once. He used to come to a place where I played music, and he's just a mousy little thing (with much less charm and presence than Fred Rogers, btw). Very much not a manly man. Creepy vibe. However, your question is an excellent one. I doubt very much if any divorce settlement would / could shield one marriage partner from having surreptitiously committed a felony against the other while they were married --- a crime that had only been discovered to have been committed after the divorce was final.
My guess would be it would have been very legally complicated, involving billions of dollars in the foundation that probably would have had to be disbanded in order for her name to be separated from it.

Actually, Those types of activities were basic fair in the Tech Industry! The late 80's and early 1990's were an all BOYS CLUB in TECH! The usual outing to clinch a SALES Contract from companies, both foreign and domestic always included strip clubs and or expensive call girls in hotel rooms! I had a back row seat to this story about Larry Ellison, Oracle, JD Edwards, related to the 2010 story link below. It's about the ERP software market, and in it Ellison is described as even worse than Gates! Interesting given the context of this C&C. My back row seat comes from working at JD Edwards in the late 1990's and knowing some of the senior leadership at the time. Who had front row seats.

In the 1990's Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software boom era of competitive growth there were a couple big players like Oracle, SAP and PeopleSoft and several next tier ones. JD Edwards was one of those next tier players that was full of innovation and had growth ambition.
The executive team of JDE was approached by Oracle, Larry Ellison with an offer to buy. Like Microsoft and other top dogs in industries they try to buy those companies that provide products they can't produce as well and/or fear being surpassed by in a free market.
JDE leadership did something that few do in that situation: They said "no" to their suitor. Something that Larry Ellison wasn't used to hearing, "no." Which infuriated him. He got up from the negotiating table and ominously, nastily, demonstrably, with flailing hands and arms, spit spewing out of his mouth as he growled, "I *WILL* own you! I will bury you! If it's the last thing I do I'll make sure you'll rue the day you said "no" to ME!!"
A petulant, angry child who nobody ever said "no" to. The JDE team took his threats seriously. Oracle made overtures to JDE shareholders. Their offer was rejected. JDE's board and shareholders adopted several poison pill corporate defenses their legal team came up with. Succeeding - momentarily - in preserving their independence from Oracle.
But the ERP market was changing rapidly. And Oracle wanted to be the Microsoft of ERP and all big corporate software. And JD Edwards was undercapitalized compared to the rest of the market. Top JDE brass, not wanting to ever be under Oracle after the experience they had with Ellison looked at PeopleSoft as a friendly partner to merge with. They put the deal together to bring them both together.
All was well - seemingly. And then Ellison swooped in and Oracle bought out PeopleSoft. He was not to be denied. His Oracle now owns JD Edwards. Just like he promised/threatened. Oracle has even kept the JD Edwards name around, their feature, best of class OneWorld/EnterpriseOne still branded and supported under Oracle.
I suspect just to rub the noses of JDE leaders in it, an "I Won" flag planted on his trophy kill.
Several of JDE's former top brass who audaciously said "no" to Ellison have since passed away. Top brass who were sources for the backstory that doesn't make its way into the newspapers. The foundation created journalism scholarships and “gave” them news to associations and universities. He hired PR firms to help change his image. But a PR firm can only do so much without the cooperation of the news outlets, and, when someone is giving millions of dollars to the news outlets, are they really going to bite the hand that feeds it? All while those “scholarships” are seen as “philanthropy”.
The foundation invested heavily in vaccines, and many readers have already shared the links of Gates talking about depopulation and his admission that vaccines have been a cash cow.
Now to see him tried, convicted, and put away for life. If only there were reasons to also strip him of his wealth…

It should be illegal for non-farmers and equity companies to hoard the land, that I can agree with … but an honest, hard working farming family that grows and accumulates due to their blood, sweat, and tears working the land and enriching it as well as the communities around them should not be prevented from accumulating land.

Well said. Agricultural farmland should be preserved across the nation, with families owning it given tax exemptions whether it lies partly fallow or not. Preserving farmland should be paramount in land management, above National Parks, and Federal forest lands. A free nation needs them all, but without farmland we become a starving nation dependent on foreign imports.
Depends on who is looking at it. To jealous onlookers who have nothing due to their lack of work ethic but wish they had a little something they might see the riches of a hard worker as “hoarding”what is there. At some point ownership is saturated and it’s harder to acquire land than it used to be 100-200 years ago. You have to work a LOT harder in this day and age to acquire a lot less. They can be bitter about that. But that should not limit the farmers who properly use the land. It should only limit those who have no interest to.
The problem is my generation, (70’s), of farmers want to retire. They made a decent living through hard work on 500 acres and less. But our kids don’t want to work that hard, and family farms are being sold to corporations, who have all kinds of investors that may or may not be foreign.
I also know two farms that have enlarged and have sons working them who are farming acreage in Africa. Less regulations and every thing is less expensive to farm. And their seasons are opposite ours.

I've read about add-ons they discovered as they got into the project, some no doubt complex, some simple as the president mentioned that the pool made the surrounding walkways look shabby, so they blasted and repaired them too. An interesting comparison, when the CA lite rail $$ balloons and the result is less than the original proposal (in this case 100% less!) Versus the pool where the result is greater than the original proposed for more $$. In the latter, $$ much more well spent.

There was more damage than expected once they got it drained and cleaned. The original number was just to drain, clean and repaint. There were a bunch of plumbing upgrades, etc I believe, as well as adding the concrete cleaning nearby, The photos show actual different colors in the concrete. And all of it on a priority rush to get it finished in time for 250.

My friends with a front seat to who Ellison really is shared with me the backstory information that never makes its way into the newspapers. Or movies.
In the 1990's Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software boom era of competitive growth there were a couple big players like Oracle, SAP and PeopleSoft and several next tier ones. JD Edwards was one of those next tier players that was full of innovation and had growth ambition.
The executive team of JDE was approached by Oracle, Larry Ellison with an offer to buy. Like Microsoft and other top dogs in industries they try to buy those companies that provide products they can't produce as well and/or fear being surpassed by in a free market.
JDE leadership did something that few do in that situation: They said "no" to their suitor. Something that Larry Ellison wasn't used to hearing, "no." Which infuriated him. He got up from the negotiating table and ominously, nastily, demonstrably, with flailing hands and arms, spit spewing out of his mouth as he growled, "I *WILL* own you! I will bury you! If it's the last thing I do I'll make sure you'll rue the day you said "no" to ME!!"
A petulant, angry child who nobody ever said "no" to. The JDE team took his threats seriously. Oracle made overtures to JDE shareholders. Their offer was rejected. JDE's board and shareholders adopted several poison pill corporate defenses their legal team came up with. Succeeding - momentarily - in preserving their independence from Oracle.
But the ERP market was changing rapidly. And Oracle wanted to be the Microsoft of ERP and all big corporate software. And JD Edwards was undercapitalized compared to the rest of the market. Top JDE brass, not wanting to ever be under Oracle after the experience they had with Ellison looked at PeopleSoft as a friendly partner to merge with. They put the deal together to bring them both together.
All was well - seemingly. And then Ellison swooped in and Oracle bought out PeopleSoft. He was not to be denied. His Oracle now owns JD Edwards. Just like he promised/threatened. Oracle has even kept the JD Edwards name around, their feature, best of class OneWorld/EnterpriseOne still branded and supported under Oracle.
I suspect just to rub the noses of JDE leaders in it, an "I Won" flag planted on his trophy kill.

Preserving farmland should be paramount in land management, above National Parks, and Federal forest lands. What you describe is not hoarding. It’s proper use.
Depends on who is looking at it. To jealous onlookers who have nothing due to their lack of work ethic but wish they had a little something they might see the riches of a hard worker as “hoarding”what is there. At some point ownership is saturated and it’s harder to acquire land than it used to be 100-200 years ago. You have to work a LOT harder in this day and age to acquire a lot less. They can be bitter about that. But that should not limit the farmers who properly use the land. It should only limit those who have no interest to.
The problem is my generation, (70’s), of farmers want to retire. They made a decent living through hard work on 500 acres and less. But our kids don’t want to work that hard, and family farms are being sold to corporations, who have all kinds of investors that may or may not be foreign.
I also know two farms that have enlarged and have sons working them who are farming acreage in Africa. Less regulations and every thing is less expensive to farm. And their seasons are opposite ours.

I've read about add-ons they discovered as they got into the project, some no doubt complex, some simple as the president mentioned that the pool made the surrounding walkways look shabby, so they blasted and repaired them too. An interesting comparison, when the CA lite rail $$ balloons and the result is less than the original proposal (in this case 100% less!) Versus the pool where the result is greater than the original proposed for more $$. In the latter, $$ much more well spent.

There was more damage than expected once they got it drained and cleaned. The original number was just to drain, clean and repaint. There were a bunch of plumbing upgrades, etc I believe, as well as adding the concrete cleaning nearby, The photos show actual different colors in the concrete. And all of it on a priority rush to get it finished in time for 250.

There was absolutely no concern for the excess carbon dioxide in the bloodstream that would involve, let alone the potential harm to the brain of the decreased oxygen.
