When we were young, my father was the plant manager of Nielson's, the largest chocolate manufacturer in Canada. They made all kinds of chocolate, and very good chocolate. He would bring home ~ 50 candy bars a month in his briefcase that looked like the bags doctors making house calls carried. 5 & 10 pound boxes of mixed chocolates in December. When we trick or treated, neither my sister or I would eat Hershey bars, so we gave them away. It was crap chocolate in the '60's , so I can only imagine how wretched it is now. Dad used to bring home bags of cocoa bean shells, and use them for mulch in his garden. Needless to say, we had the best smelling garden around.

Words Beyond Me-Janice Powell's avatar

And I thought my dad bringing home some candy bars from the bowling alley vending machine once a week was cool.

Fabes55's avatar

We had a neighbor who used cocoa bean shells as a mulch. It was like walking by a chocolate factory!

There's actually a store here in FL that regularly carries cacao pods in their produce section.

Trudy's avatar

I grew up in a small town near Hershey PA and my parents always bought cocoa mulch for our flower beds every Spring! It was delightful! Not to mention when the old Chocolate factory was in its prime, we could smell the chocolate aroma coming from the actual factory itself! This e were the days!

I'm going to Hersey in a few weeks. My Grandma worked at Cadbury's in the UK when he came over as a war bride in 48. Once a year they sent her a gift box and us grandkids ate it all. (I was in the UK at the time)

I now spend $$$ on actual chocolate with cocoa butter still in it. Though I was shocked at IKEA on the weekend while waiting (forever) to check out I picked up a chocolate rabbit. and shockingly it still had cocoa butter in in. But it didn't weight much @ $5.99!

Cocoa butter is removed, sold to the cosmetics industry and replaced by palm oils in "chocolate". yuk.

A Guy from South Florida's avatar

lol - but I bet that is one cool memory you have of your dad :)

Words Beyond Me-Janice Powell's avatar

I should have mentioned the part where he sat and clucked like a chicken and candy bars would fall out of his clothes. He probably only did the chicken routine once, but obviously it was memorable because here I am nearly 60 years later recalling it. In unrelated news, he was a decorated WWII soldier. 💜🇺🇸

Juju's avatar

I love those kinds of memories of our fathers. There were 3-4 specific occasions when my dad came home from work and stood in our kitchen doing whatever and there would be bulges moving under his jacket or his sleeves. By the third or fourth time we squealed on queue knowing there was a puppy underneath there somewhere and we would claw at him to reveal it. My memory is that my dad brought home a puppy every single month of my childhood 😂 even though it probably only happened a handful of times. 🤣 What wonderful memories I will forever cherish and love reliving. It’s why I regularly go get puppy fixes at stores even at the age of 60.

I went out to watch the launch yesterday and broke into tears. I remembered the last moon launch back in ‘72 that I hadn’t thought about in so long. We are so back!

Valerie's avatar

I’m genX and I had a lot of stress with the launch… I have strong memories of watching challenger blow up while watching the launch in my high school cafeteria. Didn’t even realize I was still hanging on to that.

Mrs. SOB's avatar

I'm a boomer and it was the faulty O-ring that caused the Challenger to blow up. Our tech is so advanced. I watched the 1969 moon landing and loved it. Yesterday was triumphant! I watched the Challenger from work. We, in Chicago, we're fresh off the stunning Bears Superbowl win, excited for parades, when that happened. It ended all our celebrations.

As a boomer, those tragic things we witness make us strong and thoughtful. If you carry fear, it will cripple you. You have to go on, bravely. If I could not do that, I'd still be in the fetal position for all thr loss I've endured. Breathe one breath at a time, while you still can, for death is the only way out.

God loves you with an everlasting Love, lean into Him.✌🏻🕊

David A's avatar

I saw the 69 moon landing as a boy of 12. Loved it. (am grateful for the lack of a moon landing conspiracy crowd here.)

Regarding the the DOJ’s lack of success prosecuting James Comey and Letitia James—

I think this in a microcosm shows what Bondi is facing. Of all the institutions marched through, the DOJ was the most overrun. These have been stifled yet are still active. Persecuting any DC Democrat is like trying to get orcs to convict Sauron.

My mind is not made up on Bondi, and a deep dive by Jeff on this would be appreciated. (Likely done in the past but there have been many updates.)

Lisa's avatar

This why we vote the way we do. A lifetime of memories good and bad!

kittynana's avatar

@Valerie- I'm a Boomer and remember the early launches but I, too, watched the Challenger break up and I nearly closed my eyes at this launch because of that trauma.

I was in Hawaii for the Challenger launch. Ellison onizuka's brother was my banker. Gosh it's hard to type this. I was on the viaduct near the airport in my car, when the launch was going overhead. The entire city had stopped and we were all looking up to watch the exciting spectacle.

We were all out of our cars on the freeway, looking up and cheering as it went overhead. And then we saw it. From Hawaii you could watch that without binoculars. It seemed so close.

Then it happened. Shock rippled all along the freeway, people started to cry. This was one of our own boys who was up there. The world just stopped.

I remember getting back in my car and just sitting there. No one around me seem to mind, they were doing the same thing. Finally traffic started up again very slowly. We were all in a fog. It drove home the reality of the danger of missions like that.

Rest in peace, Ellison. We still miss you.

I was at the local junior college cafeteria for a meeting when challenger went. I was newly married huddled by a heater during a snow and ice storm in our trailer home at university of Illinois when the 3 astronauts died in a fire on the launch pad. Hard to forget. January 1967.

Salty K's avatar

Same. I was holding my breath the whole time

Willing Spirit's avatar

The elementary school where I was working had filled the cafeteria for watching. Then quickly ushered everyone out. I’m guessing teachers had lots of counseling to do. So sad.

LiveDreamRepeat's avatar

I felt stressed the whole time too. That memory from 4th grade is intense. Have you heard the conspiracy that it was faked too?? I don't go looking for these things...info was sent to me, and some points seemed plausible - either way, a tragedy or real lives, or a tragedy of insane lies & corruption

Valerie's avatar
3hEdited

I haven’t, but I try not to buy into conspiracies. They exist, absolutely, but there are so many that are just BS. I like to ignore them til a ton of info comes out. Because all they do is stress me out.

RunningLogic's avatar

I finds a lot of them require more willing suspension of disbelief than a B horror movie. Occam’s razor is usually what I go by. Still, I try to keep an open mind in case additional information surfaces to add credibility or explain anything I have a hard time believing.

Valerie's avatar

That’s basically how I look at it too.

BelleTower's avatar

All six dead astronauts have same age same name same face replicas in related and unrelated fields around the country 😱. It comes up occasionally on my feeds, sorry I cannot link it here

Donna Oliphint's avatar

Why would they subject their families to living such a lie?

Willing Spirit's avatar

Faking things can be easy these days. Beware and alert to all.

Colleen The Queen's avatar

I get it too. The faces are IDENTICAL albeit older. The names are exactly the same. It's crazy!

Anon E. Mousse's avatar

I have absolutely no idea what that means.

Tonee norman's avatar

That WAS a pretty awful day..

Steveo's avatar

Nasa is fake and the challenger was fake too. No one died and they all went on to work inndifferent jobs, even using their real names. No need to be stressed or sad about something so fake. Read ypur Bible. The firmament rests above the planet and nothing can get past that.

I remember watching the challenger blow up in high school too.

Anon E. Mousse's avatar

The Challenger disaster was the first inkling I had that there might indeed be a collective subconscious. I recall dreaming that there were great noises and people running and screaming, only to awake to the news breaking on TV.

My dream did not have much of a plot, but it sure was on point.

Jpeach's avatar

I remember all the Gemini manned missions. Then Apollo and the Moon missions. Every takeoff was magical. Tracking reentry and splash down was dramatic. After all these years I do have doubts about actual moon landings. Then Challenger tragically exploded and the American zest for Space Travel exploded with it. I am optimistic that Space Exploration can be a thing again. Eliminate all the “Learing Centers” and it’s paid for.

Long Enough?'s avatar

Let’s not forget Columbia, which broke up on re-entry killing 7 crew members. There was a known problem which NASA ignored. Par for the course for NASA. That’s why I just prayed, “Please don’t let it blow up” during take off yesterday. Thank heavens SpaceX is handling the lunar landing part of the mission.

Mitch's avatar

weird that I have no recollection of the Columbia at all but remember the Challenger explosion vividly. I wonder if that's maybe because it was covered differently in the news?

Me too!!! I had to grab the Kleenex when that rocket took off.

glenn's avatar

I frequently watched the moon missions. They were a bright spot, shining through the otherwise dark spot known as Vietnam for those of us growing up in the 60s and early 70s.

On a trip to Florida, got to see Apollo 15 on its launch crawler. I was struck at how massive it was. The moon missions were a key influence for my decision to major in engineering.

Steveo's avatar

Sorry, but no one has been to the moon. It's all fake. This should start you on your deep dive. Before he died, Stanley Kubrick confessed to filming the moon landing in Studio City CA. Apply some critical thinking to this, how did 3 men, all of their gear, food, medical supplies, land rover fit in that rocket? They can't. Also, if you look up the many, many videos you can see bubbles becUse the space scenes are really filmed in a pool. Nasa's hebrew translation means to deceive. It's logo is demonic. It's a war on God. Sorry to birst your bubble but it's all fake so they can steal billions in tax money and project demonology onto society.

My Birthday in January 28, I remember walking into the house and seeing Challenger blowing apart in 1986, worst Birthday ever. I didn't realize at first what was happening.

Lori's avatar

I called Hersheys a few months ago and asked if their products contain bioengineered ingredients bc it has no such label on the bags of chocolate. They answered all their candy has bioengineered/GMOs in them and that they do not put this info on the bags of chocolate. The only product not using bioengineered ingredients is the Hershey's toll house morsels used for choc. chip cookies. Told them they lost a customer and I tell everyone I know aout this.

Susan Seas's avatar

Hmm I thought labels had to say bio engineered foods! It might be tiny and underneath the list of ingredients, but it should be there. 😡

Lori's avatar

I did too. I loved peanut butter cups and just got the urge to call. Gave up cups the same day.

Fabes55's avatar

I get the dark chocolate ones from Trader Joe's.

Not Me's avatar

Get chocolate (and other things)from Aldi’s. It’s a German company…they have much stricter regulations on food ingredients.

Tonee norman's avatar

Yes! Very tasty.

Costco has a non GMO dark chocolate peanut butter cup candy. My apologies. You will quickly be addicted!

VelvetStitching's avatar

Glad to hear this! I love frozen choc chips for a treat!

Lori's avatar

I do too but I look to Mamavation for safety and purity of products. Ghiardelli chips are rated one of the best, not Hersheys.

Laura's avatar

Yes, I make my peanut butter cups with Ghirardelli chips and natural peanut butter.

Janet's avatar

Yes. Hershey’s uses HFCS. They taste fake. Yuck.

Janet's avatar

Yes, but HFCS has changed the taste substantially so it keeps me out of them. I seek out the brands made with real chocolate.

Merry McIntyre's avatar

Never buy anything made by Hershey’s. Pure garbage.

Princess Thunderbutt's avatar

Reese’s PB Cups are inedible. It’s a big bummer.

Laura's avatar

I just started making my own peanut butter cups. It's super simple. I use natural peanut butter sweeten it with a little monk fruit and excellent milk chocolate chips. If I was a dark chocolate lover which I'm not, you can get dark chocolate. To heck with Hershey's.

Lori's avatar

Would you consider sharing your recipe Laura?

Valerie's avatar

This is a great story! On a not really related note, have you ever tried brewed cacao beans? They roast and brew them like coffee but with a minuscule amount of caffeine. I love it. I doctor mine up just like a cup of coffee.

Signed a chocoholic from way back in the day, lol.

¡Andrew the Great!'s avatar

I started doing this - Crio Bru is my brand - over the Christmas holidays. Never been much of a coffee drinker, I'd have it if it's a convenient routine (i.e. mornings), but we went to Spain twice, for a total of 25 days, and I never once had coffee there.

After reading about cacao's myriad health benefits last year I decided to give it a try. Got the starter's kid [edit: "kit"] from Crio Bru, which included a French press, and loved it.

We also have a $600 Ninja coffee machine at home that a former renter left behind when he moved back to Europe, so I use it now to brew the ground cacao.

Every morning now, 8-12oz of the stuff. And no shakes or jitters or heart palps like I'd sometimes get from the caffeine in coffee.

Wholeheartedly recommend for anyone who doesn't have a physical or emotional need for coffee per se.

(I also have Cocoa Via cocoa powder and add one scoop to my smoothies, along with a scoop of protein powder, 12oz coconut water, spinach, 1-2T of EVOO (another dietary change born of learning about EVOO's myriad health benefits), 1-2T of lowfat Greek yogurt, sometimes some turmeric & ground pepper, sometimes 1t of PB, sometimes a half avocado instead of the yogurt, and frozen strawberries and frozen blueberries. Fantastic smoothie combo.)

Dr Linda's avatar

I will be ordering organic, roasted cocoa beens to grind with my morning coffee.

¡Andrew the Great!'s avatar

I would do that but that would require swapping out the coffee beans for the cacao beans back and forth in the grinder in our Ninja, and swapping out beans is time-consuming and you lose some beans in the process, so I get the ground version and use the Ninja to do the rest.

MaryAnn's avatar

Yes! Crio bru was the cacao I tried. Very good.

Kelly's avatar

The bf and I are doing the carnivore diet. As soon as I fully got onboard and ate a 100% protein meal, my sugar cravings and binge eating stopped. In the past week or so, I started craving chocolate, though. I've been mixing cacao powder with my evening Dandy Blend (fake coffee), but this sounds SOOO much yummier. I will have to look into it!

Jeffrey N. Gratton's avatar

YES

There are SO many higher quality ingredients that can be used for our favorite 'guilt' foods.

One of my favorites is swapping out wheat flour for almond or coconut flour or (in Russia) pine nut flour when making pancakes.

High protein and good fats ... just don't try to eat more than a couple - they're VERY filling.

P.S. I drown them in butter and top them off with REAL maple syrup (which is a far healthier sugar than contemptible corn syrup versions - much lower glycemic).

John of Oregon Fame's avatar

I do the same for pancakes but use buckwheat flour since I am tested not sensitive to it. Same butter (A2) milk and real maple syrup.

Beth's avatar

Same here Kelly! We have really been played by the cereal companies. That food pyramid was a scam! And I eat a lot cheaper just eating meat!

I just run to a local small butcher who I know sources beef from a local rancher. And I buy eggs from a local farmer. I feel so much better now than I did! And I'm sneaking up on 75!

Lisa Runquist's avatar

Me too. Crio Bru. My favorites are double chocolate and Highlander Grogg

Juju's avatar

My phone screen is overheating with screenshots this morning 🤣 Can’t wait to buy this!

Valerie's avatar

Those are the ones I normally get too. I can’t believe how many options they have, though.

VelvetStitching's avatar

Wow! That sounds fantastic! Where do you get your cacao beans to brew? Do you grind them? I'm a big coffee fan - would love to try a brew you detailed! Yummy!

Valerie's avatar

It’s SO GOOD. The brand I’m familiar with is called Crio Bru and you can get it on Amazon. It comes already ground as far as what I’ve gotten so far. They have lots of different kinds, most of them taste pretty much the same to me except the one that’s like Mexican hot chocolate… spicy (it’s delicious if you’re into that). That’s the one with ‘maya’ in the name. I honestly can’t tell the difference otherwise, the Scottish grog version, light roast vs dark roast…. I have a simple palate, lol.

You can make it taste like hot chocolate if you add cream and sugar, but like coffee it’s bitter without anything but still has a chocolate flavor.

Lisa Runquist's avatar

You can buy it directly from them - no reason to go thru Amazon.

¡Andrew the Great!'s avatar

I have to get Crio Bru through Amazon because Crio Bru doesn't ship to Puerto Rico. I even called them out on that and they apologized and had no good reason why they don't ship to PR (since they do ship to Hawaii, another island).

But I order directly from Crio Bru for the product I have shipped to my kids' houses so that I can have my cacao when I visit (such as now; just finished a 12oz serving in rainy, raw Maine).

Valerie's avatar

I just use Amazon because I can add it to my auto ship that I already get anyway. But yes, ordering direct is better.

¡Andrew the Great!'s avatar

The problem I've had with Amazon (which is my only source, because CB doesn't ship to PR) is the limited variety available in the larger bag size.

I've gotten the Spanish Roast and the Ghana French Roast from Amazon, but the Grog I had shipped to Maine directly from the CB website and then took it home with me when I left Maine. I also have a bag of Tall Dark & Handsome shipped to Maine from the CB website.

I wish CB would start shipping to PR.

Valerie's avatar

If you want to pay extra shipping I’ll buy it for you and mail it…?

¡Andrew the Great!'s avatar

I don't pay shipping with Amazon, and I think I only pay sales tax, no shipping, when I have it shipped to my kids in VA and ME.

So that's what I've done a couple of times - ship it to VA or ME, use it there, then take it home with me when I leave.

Although even that is probably overkill; I've gotten the Spanish and Ghana blends from Amazon, and they're perfectly fine.

RunningLogic's avatar

Oh cool, I’ll have to try that! Maybe mix with coffee beans and grind together for a mocha flavor?? 😋

Valerie's avatar

That’s what we do during the week. I’m sensitive to caffeine so I love that it reduces it so I can have a second cup.

RunningLogic's avatar

I usually do half caf (with Swiss water method decaf) so I can have more coffee because I like to drink it throughout the day 🙂 But this would be a great alternative!

Valerie's avatar

I should also say… cacao is really good for you. My husband and I often mix coffee and cacao half and half in the morning in the coffee pot. My preference if I’m just making cacao is to use a coffee press.

Juju's avatar

You guys are driving me crazy I can’t wait to try this!!!! Sitting here salivating. Right now I add chocolate collagen powder to my coffee and enjoy it immensely, but this is probably far more delectable.

RunningLogic's avatar

Right?? 🤤

I also add collagen powder to my coffee but unflavored. It seems like every flavored collagen (or whey for that matter) has to add sucralose or stevia or some other sweetener and I can’t abide the aftertaste 😝

¡Andrew the Great!'s avatar

Just last weekend my son told me about Transparent Labs' whey protein powder. No artificial sweeteners.

I had been using Optimum Nutrition's whey after reading reviews of different wheys, but it is artificially flavored vanilla powder. The Transparent Labs' whey is vanilla/peanut butter, unfortunately, two weeks ago I ran out of Optimum and bought a new jug, so I'll have to wait til I use that up to then go try Transparent's stuff.

VelvetStitching's avatar

Chocolate collagen? Sound Intresting!

Y'all need to share resources! Wow - makes me want another cup of coffee - but hiking comes first…. 😊

Juju's avatar

I’ve tried many MANY different brands. They all had a weird taste for one reason or another, either terrible sweetener balance with horrible after taste or not enough true chocolate flavor. But the following brand I found to be delicious and have the best nutritional analysis and ingredients.

I get the chocolate version of Sports Research brand, but this links to their “unflavored” version. Not sure what’s up with the chocolate being unavailable right now. I get it on subscribe and save every month. If I ever had to I’d get the unflavored and just add 1-2T of my own powdered cocoa.

https://a.co/d/0h2zFU7h

RunningLogic's avatar

Ooh I was just saying I’d like to try it that way! Thanks for confirming the blend works well!

Valerie's avatar

We think so, but my husband and I are very simple people when it comes to food, so I’m not saying it’s for everyone.

¡Andrew the Great!'s avatar

You also might want to look into cocoa powder (Cocoa Via is my preferred brand). It's a good addition, IMO, to smoothies, and mixed into Greek yogurt.

I'm sure other uses, too, like hot chocolate, but I'm simple and not creative at all.

Freebird's avatar

A similar concoction I like is cacao powder brewed in my single serve French press, then made into my version of hot chocolate by adding honey and non dairy creamer, Nut Pods, not the plastic coffee mate stuff.

Words Beyond Me-Janice Powell's avatar

I need to try that. But I think I would add heavy coconut cream. 😋

Janet's avatar

I used to buy a ground coffee that was a half and half. I want to find that again. Maybe it was Trader Joe’s?

Fabes55's avatar

Detwiler's here in Central FL sells whole cacao pods. I just might try that!

Cadbury chocolate went south when Hersey got hold of them

RMac's avatar

In the UK and Europe, Cadbury is still the read deal. Actual chocolate.

dancingtime's avatar

European chocolate, however, is also starting to use soy lecithin as the emulsifier....can't eat it anymore....European chocolate is not what it used to be....Laima, from Latvia, has been ruined....

RunningLogic's avatar

The best chocolate imo is from smaller craft chocolate makers. More expensive but totally worth it because it tastes sooo much better!! 😋

Karmy's avatar

We saw a Mike Rowe show about Dick Taylor chocolate. We just bought some to try it out.

dancingtime's avatar

I haven't noticed that...unless they use chocolate liqueur as the emulsifier, it's all the same to me. And I don't mind spending money for quality.

Susan Seas's avatar

Maybe, because they don’t allow all the fake ingredients. But it’s still owned by Hershey’s and in my opinion, not the same as it used to be. I quit eating Cadbury’s when Hershey’s bought them. I’m still mad!

JudyC's avatar

Me too. Cadburys was one of my favorites when I lived overseas and when I moved back to the US it was imported from England. Hersheys ruined it.

MaryAnn's avatar

I bought a small bar of Dubai chocolate (pistacio filling in the center) at my local H Mart. It was delicious—spoiled me!

JudyC's avatar

I grew up overseas, and all my teenage years were spent in Italy and Switzerland. When I moved back to the US for college, I was revolted by the candy here. I would spent my few available funds on imported chocolate and my friends thought I was crazy to “waste” my money. I had the same issue with yogurt and bread. They just didn’t compare to what I was used to. Frankly, they still don’t!

FloridaTransplant's avatar

Neilson’s Crispy Crunch candy bar was my favorite as a kid when we visited Toronto. My mom (born Canadian) brought one home for one my birthdays (my 45th? maybe?) one year. I literally kept the wrapper in my computer bag for years for the memory of her sweet gesture - she was such a kind and thoughtful soul. I think the closest American analog to this candy bar is the “butterfinger” but the Neilsen‘s product was/is far superior. I have often joked that if I were ever to be in my doctors office and some lab work came back indicating I had cancer and a very short time to live My first request would be, “can someone please bring me a piece of paper and a pen? I need to write a letter to the Neilsen’s chocolate bar company to thank them for all the joy they brought me in this life…”

RunningLogic's avatar

I love that you kept the wrapper ❤️ So sweet! (No pun intended 😆)

Neuhaus Belgian chocolate is the bomb! Their truffles are divine. I discovered them years ago in Europe and they are my secret treat.

I started boycotting Hershey's during covid. I remember reading that the company was brutal in forcing the jab on its employees. Life long employees who refused the jab were summarily fired. On paper I think the company allowed for religious or medical exemptions. Not sure how many they actually gave out. Employees who were fired lost their retirement benefits, even those who had worked nearly 30 years and were due to retire shortly. Some lawsuits are still in process. Here's one cited by chatgpt:

"A long‑term employee claimed he lost retirement benefits.

In a civil lawsuit, a senior manager with nearly 30 years of service alleged that when Hershey terminated him in January 2022 for refusing the COVID‑19 vaccine (after denying his religious exemption), the company characterized his separation as a voluntary resignation or resignation without good cause.

Because of this designation, the plaintiff said he was precluded from collecting his retirement benefits, severance, and unemployment compensation that he would otherwise have been eligible for, including retirement eligibility he would have reached about 10 months later."

All this contradicted the nice caring family environment I was told about the company when I took the Hershey, PA factory tour in the pre-covid years.

RunningLogic's avatar

Yeah that alone is enough to want to boycott them! 😡

(Did Deep Stroke---Peter Strzok---participate in a conspiracy against a President, or did he just state personal feelings? Can you PROVE his statements were linked to verifiable actions that could be made into a criminal case?) I'm no lawyer, but I have watched "Law and Order" and "Lincoln Lawyer." I do think there has to be credible proof that expressing disgusting opinions must actually be shown to be connected for it to be a prosecutable crime.

Second, though, in addition to the plunging murder rates, Bondi's DOJ has overseen and supervised (again, no lawyer but just what it appears) the most successful series of legal defenses of an administration in American history. By my count, she/DoJ has won 32-33 appeals on various aspects of Trump's agenda. She has facilitated and supported the removal of 3.5 million illegal invaders. She has, via Harmeet Dhillon, brought universities to their knees over DEI (still a couple of guerilla holdouts). In short, if you omit the "big name arrests," Bondi's DoJ is simply the most effective and successful in history. And, oh yeah, did I mention that there have been FIVE major human trafficking busts in 18 mo. Now, again, impossible to prove, but where did the leads for those busts---that have freed thousands of kiddos---come from? Gee, couldn't be the old Eppy Files, could it?

So, by your calculation, merely mentioning someone’s name in emails connected to Epstein is proof of pedophilia? No mention of such acts or even accusations, but the name alone implies guilt and therefore, actual guilt?

Roman S Shapoval's avatar

No - but when someone like Epstein, who uses acid to desolve bodies, says that Trump is literally the "worst person he has ever met, not one decent cell in his body" what do you think it means? There are more documents I can find linking DJT to illicit behavior, trouble is...who wants to hear it?

Few days ago in an exchange with Roman, he indicated that Peter Thiel was running the CIA because Palantir was supported by the CIA's venture capital arm, In-Q-Tel, in its early stages. So by extension Thiel must also be running the DoD, NSA, DHS and 2300 other companies that use Palantir products. By further extension, since Palantir uses Nvidia chips then Jensen Huang must be running Palantir and a whole host of other companies. Maybe they use Dell computers and Michael Dell is running all of those. Roman makes these stretches, longer than the Artemis II mission, that try to connect dots that IMHO simply are a bridge too far. I explicitly stated this is my opinion, but mostly Roman makes these statements as facts that readers should take as such. At least in this instance Roman did not include a link back to his substack.

President Trump goes to the S.Court.

Who in their right mind could ever think the founders, or the writers of the 14th amendment would have agreed with the notion of birth tourist coming to America, having children, getting citizenship for their child and then going back home. 36,000 births a year is the last stat taken. Later, when the child comes back the parents are automatically able to get a type of green card status as the child’s guardian. So if we are to believe the Supreme Court is going to rule on the founders intent of the law, this should be a slam dunk, birth right citizenship should be voted out! But we know this probably isn’t going to happen, the Supreme Court has become influenced by politics and their public perception. The majority is certainly not influenced by what is right or good for America.

Valerie's avatar

I think turning over birthright citizenship isn’t going to happen but for a different reason. It’s constitutional. Do I think it makes sense given how it’s being abused? Do I think it’s being used for its original intent? Absolutely not. I think it’s a terrible policy in this day and age. But I also don’t think that the supremes are going to rule the other way because the amendment is pretty straightforward. The ‘subject to the jurisdiction thereof’ argument has merit, but I don’t think it’ll be enough. I desperately hope I’m wrong.

James Goodrich's avatar

The primary intent of the 14th Amendment (1868) was to constitutionalize the citizenship and rights of formerly enslaved people, ensuring equality before the law and protecting them from discriminatory southern "Black Codes". It aimed to establish birthright citizenship, impose federal protection over state actions, and enforce equal rights for all individuals.

In my opinion it had nothing to do with people coming here for a visit, near the time of giving birth, having the child, so their child becomes a citizen. I have heard there are 5 organizations in China now that set up trips for families and women to travel to the U.S. just to have their child in the states. This allows future access to America for China. They’re laughing at us, and these buffoon justices I guess are part of the comedy act. It’s a dangerous world, the people in power need to start acting as if it’s dangerous. Just my opinion.

Rightly So's avatar

Bingo, again! James, you have hit the nail squarely on the head. And just because the purpose (and/or "intent") of this 14th Amendment has been misinterpreted for a very long time does NOT make it "correct" now by continuing the illicit behavior. Fix it!!! The same goes for allowing the Chinese Communist Party (and other foreign countries) from purchasing American soil/property. More insanity. The Founders had just fled a Tyrannical Government. As such, do you really think that they would then want to sell the same tyrants property in their newly established country, as well as offer citizenship to the child every dang bitch/prostitute/woman of British blood? Obviously, not. And It only makes sense when one says "No" to both. So, again, Fix it!!!

Valerie's avatar

Oh I know what the intent was, my point is that the way it was written was pretty simple and doesn’t leave a lot of room for judicial reinterpretation, except in the ‘subject to the jurisdiction thereof’ part.

Juju's avatar

But that’s the part that matters. We have documents of the writers of the amendments stating clearly it was NOT intended to apply to foreigners or aliens. That coupled with “under the jurisdiction of” would make it clear that the child would have no other allegiances because the parents didn’t. They were born here from parents that were under the jurisdiction of our country, NOT as tourists or visitors, but as citizens. So therefore logically their child would too, and that was the situation for children of slaves. Trying to apply this to illegal aliens is mind blowing given the national security risk it poses. Not to mention it literally destroys the sovereignty of every American citizen.

Also, back then there was never any inclination of separating a child from their parent so long as they had any, so they wouldn’t have thought to need to actually say “parents” because it was implied. Separating children from their parents is a new disgusting practice of the modern era.

James Goodrich's avatar

I understand, I’m sure your probably right. There was a time in America when the government would do what it took to protect citizens and citizenship. Now it’s not about intent of the law. Everything gets twisted, many times, it seems, to legalize the selling out of America so to line one’s pockets.

Valerie's avatar

It’s SO distressing, isn’t it? To watch our beautiful constitution and laws being warped into something that abuses the citizens rather than protect them. Uggghhhh.

James Goodrich's avatar

Yes it is very distressing Valerie.

The Congressional Globe, May 30, 1866. pages 2890-2897

Quotes Senator Jacob Howard of Michigan, author of the 14th amendment.

Bottom of right column page 2890 and top of left column page 2891

Very clearly this does NOT support birthright citizenship, which was offered only to freed slaves after the Civil War.

It didn't even support birthright citizenship for Native Americans because they were part of sovereign nation to which they owed allegiance within the US. A separate law had to be passed to confer citizenship on them. "in 1884 ... Elk vs. Wilkins ... citizenship was denied to an American Indian because he “owed immediate allegiance to” his tribe and not the United States.

American Indians and their children did not become citizens until Congress passed the Indian Citizenship Act of 1924. There would have been no need to pass such legislation if the 14th Amendment extended citizenship to every person born in America, no matter what the circumstances of their birth, and no matter who their parents are." https://www.heritage.org/immigration/commentary/birthright-citizenship-fundamental-misunderstanding-the-14th-amendment

Juju's avatar

Exactly. Howard stated “This will not, of course, include persons born in the United States who are foreigners, aliens, who belong to the families of ambassadors or foreign ministers… but will include every other class of persons.”

Pretty clear. Why won’t Scotus consider that “original intent” while they search for “original intent”?

Valerie's avatar

This is very compelling. I hope the supremes agree.

Barbls's avatar

I hope the government lawyer is presenting this information.

RunningLogic's avatar

Good points, thanks for this information!

Kenneth Solomon's avatar

you are wrong....go back and look at the 14th through the eyes of the founders not the eyes of the SCOTUS. Art. VI, clause 2 says that only the Constitution, laws made pursuant to the Constitution, and Treaties made under the authority of the United States are the supreme law of the land. Supreme Court “opinions” are NOT part of that supreme law.

In 1868, when the 14th amendment was ratified, homosexual contact was a crime in every state in America. So, suggesting that the original meaning and intent of the 14th amendment was to grant a same-sex marriage right is ridiculous.

Illegal aliens are not “subject to the jurisdiction of the US” – they are invaders whose allegiance is to the Country they left. Foreign diplomats stationed here are not “subject to the jurisdiction of the US”. Thus, children born here of these aliens are not citizens!

The key is not just being born in the United States, but being born “subject to the jurisdiction of the United States.

American Indians born here were not made citizens by the 14th Amendment b/c they were not considered “subject to the jurisdiction of the United States”, but instead were subject to the jurisdiction of their own tribes.

Babies born here of illegal aliens are not citizens of the United States b/c their illegal alien parents are subject to the jurisdiction of the Country they left.

Ted Kennedy was behind rewriting our citizenship laws in 1965 and everyone knows what a liberal progressive he was. The fact is that NOTHING can “change” an amendment to the Constitution except another amendment, which has never been done on the 14th Amendment. According to the framers of the 14th Amendment, a child of FOREIGN parents does NOT get U.S. citizenship at all! They did NOT recognize “dual” citizenship. Any citizenship law that runs contrary to the 14th Amendment is NOT constitutional.

The SCOTUS, the progressive left, and most in both houses of congress want WTP to believe that all the illegal invaders born on american soil are citizens. Good grief, how gullible and stupid we must seem.

Your daily read should be required reading for all seniors in our public education system. Actually, all public education teachers should be required to read it as well. Thank you for your witty commentary and accurate reporting on real news of the day!

Justin's avatar

Well if there's anything that will displace Portlanders from their derisive status here, it would be public education indoctrinators.

Melissa MB's avatar

That’s a wonderful idea

I love how it's going to take them until 2027 to put real chocolate back into Hershey's! This is ridiculous. Boycott Hershey's until there is proof in the candy! It's sheer plastic and poison until then!

Lori's avatar

they use bioengineered products in the candy too but don't label that on the bags. I had to all them to find out.

Kathy Sullivan's avatar

They'd poison us to save a dime and pay themselves more!

Karen Bandy's avatar

Hersey’s and a supposed ‘good’ brand, Lindt, are some of the worst for cadmium and lead in their chocolates. It gets so tiring trying to figure out what is safe. Soy lecithin is bad too.

Cut out all processed foods is the answer I guess. Good luck.

Kathy Sullivan's avatar

Yes and soy lechitin is full of glysophate and disrupts hormones, terrible for you!

Lynne Morris's avatar

I'll never go back. And I bake a lot.

Kathy Sullivan's avatar

I looked at Hershey's chocolate chips which are now $6 per small bag....pure crap, poison, plastic! No way was I buying them!

Kelly's avatar

I bought the generic brand the other day, made with real cocoa and half the price.

Lynne Morris's avatar

Agreed. I buy Guittard or Ghirardelli chips.

Johnny-O's avatar

Advertising is powerful

Beckadee's avatar

And even using fake crap as chocolate the price has really gone up. Sad situation.

Kathy Sullivan's avatar

And imagine the price once they use what they are supposed to be using anyway....I tell you they squeeze every dime out of us in every direction! Hershey's can kiss my A$$!

dancingtime's avatar

Ever hear of supplier contracts?

Lisa's avatar

Tells me how far in advance the "chocolate" was manufacured!

dancingtime's avatar

Advance making of the chocolate is irrelevant. It's contracts. I guess you have a lot in common with Congress. They don't understand business either.

Kathy Sullivan's avatar

I think consumers are more important! They made billions saving money on this garbage they have been selling us especially when the prices of real cocoa have plumeted!

dancingtime's avatar

No one has to buy it. They sell what people buy.

For all Christian fans of C&C, please check out this YouTube video from May 23, 2025, titled “Christian Astronauts share what secular scientists WON’t about space”. Sorry I don’t know how to post a direct link, but the summary is: “Why do three men who’ve traveled to space all believe in the God of the Bible? In this interview, astronauts Charlie Duke, Butch Wilmore, and Jeffrey Williams share their most powerful moments in space, how they came to know Jesus, what space revealed to them about the Creator, and how they respond to flat-earth claims and questions about science vs. faith.” I am so sick of all the bullshit about it all being fake. I can maybe understand why young people are skeptical, but I was 14 when the first moon landing happened in 1969, and I wept with joy when that rocket launched yesterday. Please join me in praying for the safety of these four brave astronauts and a successful trip around the MOON, for the glory of God.

Beckadee's avatar

Victor Glover is the pilot for the Artemis II and he always brings his Bible. Plans on reading the book of Genesis this time. In the past he brings communion cups as well.

Margot Wooster's avatar

Cool! I didn’t know that. I will be reading up on all the astronauts to find out more about them.

RunningLogic's avatar

Thank you for sharing that!

Richard schoenenberger's avatar

Unfortunately we all can’t experience such a mind blowing event…only vicariously through these brave explorers.

ViaVeritasVita's avatar

Yes, I watched that a year ago. Thanks for bringing it up. [I also appreciate the Canadian "Answers in Genesis" regarding the creation of earth.]

I was eleven, in sixth grade, when John Glenn was to go up. The fifth grade teacher had announced that she was going to bring in a portable TV so we children could watch. I was so excited! And then, school was called off for a snow day, so we had to watch from home TV. Never before nor after was I disappointed to have a snow day.

I was raised in Tucson, AZ, and one day when I was five years old my dad told me he was taking me to meet someone important and that I would always remember this. For some reason John Glenn was flying into Tucson that night and my dad drove us out to the airport. My dad and I walked up to greet him as Glenn walked down the stairs from the plane (back when you deplaned outdoors and walked across the tarmac). He leaned down to me, said hi and I got to shake his hand. This was in 1965, so he had first flown into space just three years earlier. My dad was a private pilot, but I never found out how he managed the whole "meeting John Glenn" thing. All these years later, it remains a special memory for sure!

Fake chocolate. Fake news. Fake work. Fake elections. Fake citizens. There is still much to be done.

PamelaZelie's avatar

Sigh … I agree with you, Jason. But we have come a long, long way from the Biden and covid years. I’ll take some hope and optimism this Easter season.

RunningLogic's avatar

Same!! Hope and optimism give us the will to continue the fight!!

Marlene Swann's avatar

What a cheerful, enthusiastic, triumphant picture Jeff painted of our America returning to normalcy again - i.e. Leader of the Free World!! Made my heart sing for a moment, too!!

Juju's avatar

It’s amazing that in the SAME MONTHS at the same time Trump not only handles once and for all getting rid of the greatest terrorist regime on the planet AND sends a rocket back to the moon. America is so back.

Margot Wooster's avatar

And my husband just told me a clemency hearing for Tina Peters is supposed to happen today. PRAY!!!

RunningLogic's avatar

Praying!!! 🙏🙏🙏

Johnny-O's avatar

Normalcy apparently means back to endless wars and running up the debt.

dancingtime's avatar

We wouldn't have debt if we were not supporting half of the US, citizens and non-citizens, as well as half the world. And then we have the female fraud judges not making the fraudsters repay the money.

shayne's avatar

Good Morning everyone... Wonderful rain overnight, finally!

Karen Bandy's avatar

Shayne, we have a skiff of snow here but I see blue skies beyond. We’ve had a warm, dry and windy winter, glad for a little moisture.

Nita's avatar

I'm jealous; no rain in my part of FL

Margot Wooster's avatar

Shayne, amen to that - got some much-needed rain where I live too. God is good!!!

Darby O'Gill's avatar

" .....the Artemis rocket is apparently equipped with an en-suite, sit-down commode."

Houston....we have a problem. The only woman on board has filed a complaint about the other astronauts leaving the seat up !!!!

Karen Bandy's avatar

Howard Wallowitz from Big Bang Theory invented it! 😉

Kelly's avatar

I was thinking of Howard when I read the story!

Old Space Cadet's avatar

Jeff, I used to work on the Space Shuttle program, and knew many who had worked on Apollo. We went to the Moon. We went several times. Fact, not fiction.

One dot you missed; during the launch, the NASA announcer mentioned “American exceptionalism.” Remember when Obama ran, how he dismissed “American exceptionalism?” This was somebodies dig at him for canceling Constellation and setting us back ten years, and I loved they dinged him during the launch using his words.

James Quinn's avatar

OSC, Thank you for your work on the space program. I'm not sure who I have less tolerance for, moon landing denier or 9/11 deniers.

Old Space Cadet's avatar

I don’t even bother to talk with the moon hoaxers. I just block them for their stupidity.

James Quinn's avatar

The only value that I have ever found with them is that I find the solutions to their issues sometimes interesting. It increased my knowledge of surprising circumstances.

Old Space Cadet's avatar

That’s a wonderful idea.

Mrs. SOB's avatar

Agreed!! Don't leave out the flat-earthers. The cream of the crap.
