Man, is there anything more American than a HP director addressing his governor simply as "Hey boss . . . "

Get it done and never mind some lard ass sitting in a comfy chair in an office somewhere.

My brother in Clearwater has texted me this morning that he's going to stay as the highways are already packed and gasoline is in short supply. He's pretty far back from the coast but still, we will be worried about him.

Will pray that he’s well. My son evacuated from college and made it to Pensacola to a teammate’s house at 3am.

Reminds me of the mule and 4-wheeler convoys in W NC. Can-do crew's doing what needs to be done.

FYI, during the Hurricane Rita Run (TM), the roads cleared in the last 24 hrs. The problem was people didn't leave at the time their zone was designated. If people follow the timing of the zones, the lanes are adequate.

THE LANES ALMOST CERTAINLY WILL CLEAR SOMETIME TODAY.

Source: My cousin, no not Vinney, she's a big wheel in Texas Dept of Transportation. And she was right for Rita.

It's like when they made us start doing communion by rows rather than a mad dash for the body of Christ

I live in Clearwater also and for us the best outcome would be landfall south of Tampa Bay. But SW Florida would be hit hard again. My friends evacuated by driving north up US 19. t's slower but it might be an option. They were in Crystal River a few hours ago.

Back roads even 2 lane only are a better option. Like sheep though everybody gets on the main road out. I keep a road map in my car for the SHTF scenarios. I am impressed with FL in that they figured out it's better to open the shoulders of interstates instead of reversing lanes. AL reverses I-65 north of Mobile when we have evacuations but that's the only interstate going north. I don't think they have ever done that with I-10.

A lot of new transplants probably don’t know the back roads well enough to feel comfortable. With navigation that seems silly, but is still probably the case.

I particularly like how he didn't wait around for permission but rather told the boss what they were doing about it including a contingency plan.
