The 6’ bs closed schools because no traditional classroom had the space to separate 30+ kids with 6’ circle. Then some classrooms had those plexiglass barriers around the desk tops that masked kids had to sit behind.
The restaurants had to put 6’ between tables which meant reduced seating capacity and deficits in an already small profit margin industry. The small, local businesses had to close or try to survive on carry-out clientele. 😡😡😡
It ended theater for us. I met my fiancee 20 years ago working in live theater. After working in local community theater for 16 years, everything came to a screeching halt. Two weeks before the lockdown, we held a big gala fundraiser for our beloved black box theater for our upcoming season - I made 6 loaves of my *killer* garlic bread for that. Then we shut down for 2 years. We never worked our way back in when it reopened, and then after a short season, it closed for good. I never even got much of a thank you for my garlic bread. It sucked...
Oh, and I had just dumped $1500 on a new Mac Mini so that I could do my sound design at home without borrowing the Mac from the theater. I also spent ~$300 on a multi-track license on Qlab (the performance software we used at the theater for sound and light cuing). I haven't used it since...
Exactly. The whole thing is burned into my memory and soul. It’s when everything changed for me. For other millions as well.

Never forget.
The six foot rule just about bankrupted every orchestra in the world in 2020. It was a freaking disaster for us.

I hadn't given the 6' rule any thought till it was mentioned, but the only time I think of "six foot" is to do with burials. Kinda grim.
I remember my neighborhood store putting up plexiglas barriers at the checkout - it was so silly. We were wearing the stupid masks anyway.
