Dave Lister learned this hard way when, at Arnold Rimmer's insistence, when he tried to set fire to the bedsheets in Rimmer's cell and instead his own jacket started to burn. The thinking was that once the prisoners have served their sentences, being forced to live within the law will have become second nature."
One scene had the guys trying out the "Justice Field" by hitting each other with various implements of destruction and getting smacked themselves - for 30+ years I have wished for a "Justice Field" every time I read or hear about some awful crime or atrocity that has been committed. Think of all the murders, assaults, etc. that would never have happened if a "Justice Field" rebounded the crime onto the perpetrator and the victim would have been unscathed.
