I think the term ice age can be misleading, many geologists use this as a term for times when the polar caps where covered with ice. It isn't out of the realm of possibility that melting ice caps will cool down the gulf stream and cause the temperature in Europe to lower so Northern Europe would have a climate similar to Canada. Decades ago emitting a lot of carbon was considered a way to mitigate a cooling period, but obviously this was never consciously implemented.

Yup, this is what I learned growing up. According to the traditional definition, we are still in an "interglacial period" of an Ice Age, and won't be out of it until the polar caps have fully melted. (But apparently that's suddenly a Bad Thing.)
