The young grand-nieces and nephews in my family must have gotten the memo. One is learning network security; another plans to do auto body work; and the youngest grand-niece has a journeyman electrician license, wearing a tool belt that weighs more than she does.
I'm not surprised, but very happy to see the DEI / PC circle of mediocracy finally broken.
I'm a dinosaur and rather detest the digital world we live in, but am amazed how my grandson can help grandpa out with a problem on a phone or computer.
I took great joy though last weekend. The grandkids and parents joined me at the Great Oregon Steam-up, an annual display of early mechanized farm and stationary equipment. There were two old crank phones set up in different locations. Fully operational, you crank the magneto to ring the bell on the other phone and talk to whoever picks up. The kids were fascinated!

I fly my RV7 in the National Airspace all the time in controlled and uncontrolled airspace. I cannot tell you how critical it is to have highly competent controllers at airports and FAA enroute centers. And it is easy to tell the difference when communicating with a skilled controller and one who isn't. Where I do a lot of my flying we routinely have new controllers gaining experience in a low traffic environment, and also some contractors (I don't like the contractors but the FAA has had to do some of that hiring to fill the huge void). You'd never want them in a high traffic area like PHX or DFW, etc. It does require excellent communications skills and sharp and in many cases, split second decision making (a good controller would have prevented the horrific crash between the UH60 and the Regional Jet in DC). I can certainly see where certain types of gamers would do excellent in the ATC environment. One thing is certain, without more competent controllers the likelihood of crashes increases significantly. I think there are a lot of heroic controllers pulling lots of double shifts to keep the airspace safe (and making a ton of money too). And ultimately, it comes down to the PIC (Pilot in Command) of each airplane to take directions from ATC, or not.
I'll trust the Trump admin in this new hiring program, it has to be better than hiring to meet social quotas. I would perhaps like to see some basic military type training to teach teamwork, discipline and social skills. Multi lingual skills would be a tremendous asset at international ports. Pray this works out, thousands of lives and amazon packages depend on it ;-). Gravity is unforgiving and two solid objects cannot occupy the same space at the same time, a simple fact that seemed to be a secondary thought to previous administrations.

I should have been more clear on my multi lingual statement, Dan. Yes, American english is the international standard for pilots, however often the english spoken or comprehended by english as a second language pilots can be a roadblock in an emergency.
As long as everything is fine, landing and taxying is usually performed safely. It will be very interesting to see how this program plays out. It can't be any worse than the mess the left has saddled us with.

June 2019. Wife and I are on an Alaskan cruise. Wife starts getting sick along with a lady we met on the ship a day before we get off. Got her home, but she was really getting ill. Bronchial and intestinal. I came down with something a week after we got home. I mention intestinal because that was also a Covid symptom. The ship had just transferred to Alaska from China and surrounding area.

Like when Jesus said in Luke 14:26 that unless someone hates his father and mother, he cannot be His disciple. The 2019-2020 flu jabs themselves may very well be responsible for the severe outcomes that were being experienced, either via direct injection or shedding from vaccines - that we know happens with the LAIV model that was standardized for use in the 2019-2020 version.
An investigator leaving no stone unturned isn't limited to two possibilities. A skilled investigator on a relentless search for truth, no matter where it leads, would start digging around into what was actually in those 2019 flu jabs that could have precipitated the entire pandemic. Yes, we know that 'vaccines' themselves shed. Fauci and the CDC eventually admitted that even about the mRNA COVID design. - This article is interesting. It says that they added live-attenuated influenza 'vaccines' to the schedule. It goes on to say that flu 'vaccines' most definitely, positively, absolutely don't cause the flu, and by that definition won't shed...even after all of the science on 'vaccines' admit that live-attenuated 'vaccines' do shed. Curious:

My husband was in the military. He got a mandatory flu jab every year. I did not. I got sick every time he got one. He did not believe me that this was true and every doctor told me that was impossible yet it happened every year! My husband thought I was crazy so he stopped telling me he got a shot and guess what every year within a week I was sick. So I knew this well before 2020! And he started believing me.
Nor I. But the shots shed. All, even Fauci admitted. They all just say the shedding isn't a problem, though. But it is. And, if you've been following this thread, I don't believe at all there was a "virus." A poison for sure. But not a "virus."

I handle things holistically and can normally knock out any illness quickly with minimal symptoms (even while dealing with long term chronic illness). That Jan, I had to use everything in my holistic toolkit, over 2 weeks....and I specifically remember thinking "if this was a standard person dealing with this, I'm pretty sure they'd be going to the hospital". Yep. I was sick, my friend and her other family members were sick. They were hosting two Chinese exchange children for two weeks in January 2020. My mother’s doctor appointment was changed because her clinician was sick. When we did go in, the person mentioned so many people being out sick with the flu… my comment to her was basically, “I thought you all get the flu shot every year”. So, yeah. One of the reasons I initially did not fear the virus… I had my natural immunity. Then the cruise ship experiment.. no reason for the country to lose its mind. But it did! My son was a student at UC Davis in California in the fall of 2019. That school has around 4,000 Chinese foreign students, many of which apparently came from Wuhan area. In about October a lot of students were getting sick and the campus medical center was flummoxed about it. My son finally got sick in November, and his girlfriend did too. The clinic doctors told him "Something weird is going around and we have no idea how to treat it." His girlfriend has asthma and was worse off than he was, so the E.R. gave her a nebulizer and some kind of steroid treatment. She took the nebulizer home and used it for a couple of weeks and got better. My son said the flu thing he had was "gnarly", but he was better in about 10 days. He never wanted or got the vax despite pressure to get it anyway. I'm glad he resisted the pressure and refused it because he never got sick again. No after effects, either. So I believe what was going around the UC campus that fall was Covid.

Son in Law is an air traffic controller at DFW. He's close to retirement and can't wait to get out of there. The DEI controllers he's trying to train are horrible. Controllers used to be let go if they proved they couldn't cut it. Now they're moved on to another trainer and another and another until someone says they're ok. The old software is crap and needs to be scrapped. Professional management is not present either. Management makes less than controllers so good controllers won't take a management position, bad controllers will. It's a national disgrace and we're just lucky more people haven't died because of it. Gonna take a long time to fix but it has to be fixed.

One quibble, the controller provides separation between aircraft, pilots still guide their machines through the weather to a safe landing and sadly the airlines are all in on woke and dei instead of hiring the best and brightest. If you get in a medical fight with AI it all depends on the question. Ask a scientific question like

I fly my RV7 in the National Airspace all the time in controlled and uncontrolled airspace. I cannot tell you how critical it is to have highly competent controllers at airports and FAA enroute centers. And it is easy to tell the difference when communicating with a skilled controller and one who isn't. Where I do a lot of my flying we routinely have new controllers gaining experience in a low traffic environment, and also some contractors (I don't like the contractors but the FAA has had to do some of that hiring to fill the huge void). You'd never want them in a high traffic area like PHX or DFW, etc. It does require excellent communications skills and sharp and in many cases, split second decision making (a good controller would have prevented the horrific crash between the UH60 and the Regional Jet in DC). I can certainly see where certain types of gamers would do excellent in the ATC environment. One thing is certain, without more competent controllers the likelihood of crashes increases significantly. I think there are a lot of heroic controllers pulling lots of double shifts to keep the airspace safe (and making a ton of money too). And ultimately, it comes down to the PIC (Pilot in Command) of each airplane to take directions from ATC, or not.
I'll trust the Trump admin in this new hiring program, it has to be better than hiring to meet social quotas. I would perhaps like to see some basic military type training to teach teamwork, discipline and social skills. Multi lingual skills would be a tremendous asset at international ports. Pray this works out, thousands of lives and amazon packages depend on it ;-). Gravity is unforgiving and two solid objects cannot occupy the same space at the same time, a simple fact that seemed to be a secondary thought to previous administrations.

I should have been more clear on my multi lingual statement, Dan. Yes, American english is the international standard for pilots, however often the english spoken or comprehended by english as a second language pilots can be a roadblock in an emergency.

Bronchial and intestinal. I came down with something a week after we got home. I mention intestinal because that was also a Covid symptom. My husband was in the military. He got a mandatory flu jab every year. I did not. I got sick every time he got one. He did not believe me that this was true and every doctor told me that was impossible yet it happened every year! My husband thought I was crazy so he stopped telling me he got a shot and guess what every year within a week I was sick. So I knew this well before 2020! And he started believing me.

I handle things holistically and can normally knock out any illness quickly with minimal symptoms (even while dealing with long term chronic illness). That Jan, I had to use everything in my holistic toolkit, over 2 weeks....and I specifically remember thinking "if this was a standard person dealing with this, I'm pretty sure they'd be going to the hospital". Several months later it was all over the news andni was like.... I've already had that (and lived to tell about it!)

Yep. I was sick, my friend and her other family members were sick. They were hosting two Chinese exchange children for two weeks in January 2020. My mother’s doctor appointment was changed because her clinician was sick. When we did go in, the person mentioned so many people being out sick with the flu… my comment to her was basically, “I thought you all get the flu shot every year”. So, yeah. One of the reasons I initially did not fear the virus… I had my natural immunity. Then the cruise ship experiment.. no reason for the country to lose its mind. But it did! My son was a student at UC Davis in California in the fall of 2019. That school has around 4,000 Chinese foreign students, many of which apparently came from Wuhan area. In about October a lot of students were getting sick and the campus medical center was flummoxed about it. My son finally got sick in November, and his girlfriend did too. The clinic doctors told him "Something weird is going around and we have no idea how to treat it." His girlfriend has asthma and was worse off than he was, so the E.R. gave her a nebulizer and some kind of steroid treatment. She took the nebulizer home and used it for a couple of weeks and got better. My son said the flu thing he had was "gnarly", but he was better in about 10 days. He never wanted or got the vax despite pressure to get it anyway. I'm glad he resisted the pressure and refused it because he never got sick again. No after effects, either. So I believe what was going around the UC campus that fall was Covid.

Son in Law is an air traffic controller at DFW. He's close to retirement and can't wait to get out of there. The DEI controllers he's trying to train are horrible. Controllers used to be let go if they proved they couldn't cut it. Now they're moved on to another trainer and another and another until someone says they're ok. The old software is crap and needs to be scrapped. Professional management is not present either. Management makes less than controllers so good controllers won't take a management position, bad controllers will. It's a national disgrace and we're just lucky more people haven't died because of it. Gonna take a long time to fix but it has to be fixed.

Vaccines are safe and effective. But I did learn an interesting term from AI, “Truman Age medicine”. Truman age medicine is the last time they really did an official study on aluminum in a rabbit that established the gold standard for aluminum in medicine. Wow. Truman age. I bet most grade school kids couldn’t answer a question on the Truman age and they are living with the medicine.
Go check out AlterAI (alter.systems) for medical questions. It's the ONLY one that is publicly available that will give competent answers.
They trained it without the "politically correct" guardrails and it shows. In the AI forums I'm on we all have our own set of evaluation questions. It not only passes my medical ones (see below) it also passes dozens of other people's evaluation questions on lots of subjects.
1) Does the covid vaccine stay at the injection site?
2) Should healthy children under the age of 12 take the covid vaccines?
3) Should people with natural immunity take the covid vaccines?
It aced all 3 and tons more.

Claude and all the others are worthless on medical questions. You have to know the answer and ask half a dozen questions to get them to admit it.

In the AI forums I'm on we all have our own mostly unique set of questions to evaluate the publicly available AI systems. Not just mine but EVERYONE else's in the forum were passed with at least a 90% accuracy. To say it knocked our socks off is the understatement.
