We give thanks to You, O God, we give thanks,

For Your name is near;

Men recount Your wondrous deeds.

“For I select an appointed time,

It is I who judge with equity.

The earth and all who dwell in it melt;

It is I who have firmly set its pillars. Selah.

I said to the boastful, ‘Do not boast,’

And to the wicked, ‘Do not raise up the horn;

Do not raise up your horn on high,

Nor speak with insolent pride.’”

For one’s rising up does not come from the east, nor from the west,

And not from the desert;

But God is the Judge;

He puts down one and raises up another.

— Psalm 75:1-7 LSB

Expand full comment
Politico Phil's avatar

I completely agree with you. To be clear, I did not say we should not judge. We are to judge all actions, whether they be good or evil and we are told by God to hate evil. God allows no mercy toward evil. I was addressing Kat's comment/response to the Psalm quoted by Janice: "All this (human)revenge is coming from hate jealousy anger, etc which makes our revenge exactly the opposite of our Lord’s."

The Psalm didn't talk about that so I am assuming Kat is indirectly referencing all the talk about finally seeing justice and punishment upon those who have caused all the suffering for the last 5 years. I refute her statement that our desire to finally see justice done is "revenge exactly the opposite of our Lord’s."

I cannot judge another person's anger, whether it be from sin or whether it be righteous for I do not know the person's heart. But God does see the heart and that is why only he can judge a man. We are to judge men's ACTIONS for we know the righteous standards of God's Word and must discern good from evil. But only God judges the person in eternity.

But God often works in our justice system to punish the unrepentant. He doesn’t always wait until the end times to render his judgement. Sometimes the reconciliation happens from the prison cell. We chose to buy land on a private, unimproved road on the north end of our county where there are many unimproved, private roads. There's a Florida statute that was written to enable citizens to work with the county for road improvement, add a streetlight or some drainage. But our county has made that more difficult than necessary by requiring 100% of property owners to agree to work with the county for the improvements. After working with a county commissioner on this for about 9 years, I realized it's never going to happen and that was probably the plan all along. The counties on either side of us require 66% of owner approval. The road problems date from the 70's/80's, but our county government has no long-term plan to improve the roads. I would have been satisfied with a 25-year plan, but other than the one commissioner, they do not care. We were in crisis with erosion, flooding during storms, sand dunes burying vehicles when it dried, children trying to safely navigate up to the bus stop. My 90-yr-old mother had to lay in the camper of the fire chief's pickup because an ambulance could not get down our road. We are middle class, but we finally took out an equity loan in order to improve almost 1 mile of road, doing the heavy equipment operation ourselves. We're still doing improvements but there's no more flooding, no more massive erosion, no more vehicles buried several feet in sand. People can get to work, children can walk safely away from cars, and now properties are being developed. My thanks will be raised property taxes and I'll hear a load of malarkey about why the county couldn't get this done. I'm a 64-yr-old female and not a civil engineer but I was able to make a decent road in about 1 year with some middle-class funds, co-operation from a few neighbors and the drive to get it done.

We see it in all states (look at what happened to Atty Gen Paxton of TX); we see it in FL, NH, OH, KY, TN, all over. R's trying to push red flag laws at the state level, and other "common sense" (not common sense) gun laws. John Cornyn selling out, etc. in the last Congressional session.

Two California oil refineries are shutting down soon in preparation of the whole push for the electric vehicle mandate coming. California needs to revolt and strip all of these politicians of their power, charge them for grift and any other crime revealed, which I’m sure is plenty, and confiscate any and all wealth they obtained as a result of it.

On all the cable TV shows (probably MSM shows as well, although I don't monitor those), they talk about gas prices coming down and all that, but they NEVER show what the prices are in California. I bought regular yesterday and the cheapest place I could find was $4.74/gallon. For anyone not in California, BEWARE: if people like Newsom get more power that is what YOU will soon be paying as well. California tacks on $1.15 and sometimes MORE per gallon in government taxes....we have Low Carbon Fuel Standard Compliance Costs of about 0.47/gallon, Cap and Trade program of 0.30/gallon, Unique Field Blend Requirements of 0.11/gallon and this will reportedly be raised to 0.47/gallon THIS YEAR, plus state and sometimes local taxes which are at least 0.60/gallon. Elect Newsom or another environmental freak and these prices will be at YOUR gas station too!

We found gas at Costco for $3.95, but we have to drive about 4 minutes farther. We decided it was worth it to say nearly $8.

The reality is they don’t want people to drive. They don’t want people to have cars. They are well aware that we don’t have the infrastructure for electric vehicles. So they push electric vehicles, bikes, public transit, which sucks, and walking because they will be able to control you easier. I have nothing against any of those, but I want to be the one who chooses whether to do that or not and whether it works with my life.

Honestly, if electric cars were so great, everyone would want one. But they aren’t. They have a lot of drawbacks, which is why so many people who can afford them don’t buy them.

I love California for its variety and geography, but it's getting harder and harder. Lucky for me, I live in a rural mountain area in Northern CA that is removed from the idiocy of the big cities, although I still can't escape the gas prices, the property tax, the sales taxes and all that. There are lots of conservatives in areas like mine, so other than watching the media reports, you can forget a lot of the craziness is happening. My home is paid for, and as it was bought 35 years ago my prop tax is affordably low. I could never sell my home on 2 acres and buy another one as nice anywhere else. My sister lives in Idaho and I wouldn't mind going there, but home prices have really gone up there too in t he last 5 or 6 years. As for my adult children and grandchildren, I'm sad for them and I don't know how they will ever be able to afford homes.

It's a mistake to attribute anything to incompetence or the idea that things got out of control unintentionally. They plan everything, and each NGO has a leader who knows exactly where all the money is going...most of the time, to one or two of them at the tippy top of the scam. NGOs appear to be not only slush funds, but highly effective deep state (and others) money laundering organizations. As I read somewhere, NGOs to the uninformed are "Non-Governmental Organizations" and it sounds like they are charitable do-gooder organizations which the public largely supports by donating to them, but isn't it curious that when government funds are cut off, suddenly they collapse due to lack of money. No government money = total lack of money. So they're not exactly "non-governmental".

Indeed. A trifecta of legislative and governmental actions that subverted the Constitution and violated the liberty of all Americans. The 17th Amendment, the Federal Reserve and the Federal Income Tax: all planned and brought into existence under the proto-globalist President Woodrow Wilson in 1913. How was this allowed to happen? The American oligarchs that wanted America to remain independent from the Rothschild European banking system and had always opposed a central bank were lured onto the voyage of the Titanic to meet with the European globalists in 1912. The Europeans disembarked just before the Titanic set sail and the rest is history. The Titanic was designed with sealed baffles built into the hull of the ship so a rupture in the hull could never sink the ship. Explosives were placed in the ship to blow open the baffles allowing the water to flood the entire ship sinking it. Yes... just like 9/11 was impossibly brought down by airplanes, the Titanic was supposedly sunk by striking an iceberg. Both events are a lie. Both were purposely brought down by the globalists with explosives (and in the case of 911, by a DEW and explosives). Different centuries, same globalists, same playbook.

I put nothing past them. Transporting armaments and supplies was/is an act of war for a "neutral" country. And who were the Americans on the Lusitania when she went down? Mix the formula with bacteria filled water, add extra water because they couldn't afford to buy enough formula to actually feed the kid, and voila, population control at a very early age. AND while those at the top may be teetering, they have their tentacles deeply embedded all the way down to the local level.

-Even conservative led towns in my state have implemented lots of 'road diets' taking out lanes for cars and adding bike lanes. In a state where it is either too cold, too hot, too rainy, or too snowy to ride a bicycle probably half of the time. Other than occasionally on a Sat AM where a cycling group is out there, I NEVER see people on bikes in these bike lanes.

-Apartment complexes, often as part of the popular PMIX designation are multiplying all over our metro - 13 new complexes in 4 years in our city of 100K all with tax incentives and most are part of some 'live/work/play' district (15 minute cities)

-Ubiquitous cameras, including in police cruisers taking license plate photos all paid by our tax dollars to spy on us in the name of 'safety'

-Constant drumbeat of 'housing crisis' and attempts to push low income/'affordable housing' efforts with even more of our tax dollars. Now renaming it as 'attainable' housing due to pushback.

-Meanwhile, local property taxes continue to spiral upwards, pricing people out. (see: 'affordable housing')

-Tax dollars funneled to a myriad of consultants who dream up all these utopian plans with lovely drawings and planning docs for the city councils and city planners to drool over.

Here in CA they are coercing farmland and nursery owners to sell for affordable housing projects. It's one of the state's greatest resources, we feed the nation, but no, we need to house all the non-citizens (and give them 1st-time homebuyer grants/loans!). For the greater good.

I can see where Bondi et al might take one of two strategies: develop cases against all simultaneously (for you Portlanders that means "at the same time"--I'm kidding, no one in Portland who reads C&C is a 'Portlander'!) so that once the first one goes public, the second, third and fourth follow quickly. Too quickly for the perps to prepare. OR...develop one case quickly and fully and pounce so that there is quick action for us all to see. I think I like strategy #1; better chance of jailing more of the perps. But what do I know?

Expand full comment

#1 is preferable to me too but definitely would take a lot longer to prepare in an airtight way. The thing about food, nutrition, is the science is hard. At least that's my view as a physical chemist, not a biologist or medical doctor. Biology seems to have veered into finding correlations not causation so when a new drug shows up, we have data (hopefully!) showing efficacy and low side effects, but we don't know why it works. We don't know the mechanism.

And that's for a very specific drug targeted at doing one thing. How about essential nutrients...does it matter what chemical form they are in? I suspect that's a well understood yes, again, even if the mechanism isn't known very well. Does it matter in what combination they are consumed, that is, is a given nutrient the whole story on what it does? I don't know but there are a lot of questions like this we don't know.

So, yes, by all means cancel food additives we know are bad or at least we suspect are bad and have reasonable alternatives for. Or we just get by without yellow dyed food (for example)?

But what Kennedy wants to do, reform the entire food industry, change what we eat in a big way, if it's to be based on good science (you know, the way we used to do science 100 years ago), that will take more time than he has. Not just more than his time in office, but more time than he has left on Earth (and I hope that's a very long time indeed!) If you don't like what the experts say is good or bad for you to eat, wait a month. Their story will change! And maybe that part of our food culture will change under Kennedy? That would be awesome.

I a way, this is a quibble. Like most of what Trump et al are doing, I am cheering hard. If I find things I don't like (spending not yet slashed; budget not balanced not even close), I keep cheering anyway, for the other things. They must win. MUST! Full Stop.

I think your point is an excellent one. Scientists seem to think they understand the brain and body perfectly, and that just is not the case. For example, cholesterol. They’ve artificially lowered cholesterol for millions of people over the years and are now admitting it doesn’t seem to affect heart disease that much. I’ve always asked ‘since your body makes about 80% of the cholesterol in your system, why are you treating the symptom? If cholesterol is a problem (and I don’t think it is in many cases), the root cause would be WHY is your body thinking it needs so much?’

And also peptides, GLP-1s in particular. We know they block a receptor and that has an effect on blood sugar and appetite, but what else uses that receptor? What else does that peptide do that might be important? Anyway, I think the hubris is at the root of a lot of our health problems these days
