Canada makes no sense! Canadians are more socialist, with perhaps the exception of a couple of provinces, and it will be the equivalent of adding blue states to the map!?

Average CDN civil servant earns $65,000 vs $45,000 for a reg joe blow. Plus benefits, perks and pensions. They are a voracious tick sucking on the life blood of the populace and a loyal left voting block.
Trudeau has expanded the size of this tick to unimaginable/unsustainable levels partly for votes and partly to make it look like we aren't in a recession. Gov't spending should NOT be part of GDP. He's also brought over like 10% of our population from India mostly to pander to his corp. overlords in just the last 4yrs "legally". This also inflated GDP though we are all a lot poorer, just a lot more poors is all.
"Strong regions In the second scenario, larger shares of wealth accumulate in the south and east, shifting power to regional hegemons that consolidate spheres of influence challenging sovereign states as the principal unit of global order. Mutual respect for the new regional hegemons’ interests actually alleviates the tensions that had started to grow in the early decades of the 21st century in contested areas such as Eastern Europe, the Middle East and the Western Pacific. Governments make increasingly effective use of surveillance and high-tech media systems to control their citizens with manufactured historical narratives and exaggerated projections of external threats, emphasizing themes of ethnic or religious difference. New regional institutions are set up that fragment what was once global trade and the global commons (e.g. establishing regional internets). As these come to dominate international relations, the old UN and Bretton Woods institutions of global governance wither away. In parallel, efforts to control global warming are dropped in favour of unilateral measures to adapt to the changes. There are efficiency losses in the retreat from globalization, but authoritarian elites mostly convince their people that this is an acceptable price to pay for stability. Companies lose their independence as inter-regional trade is limited and they come increasingly under the informal control of the new regional governance institutions."
Is Pres. Trump implementing one of the WEF's Great Reset predictions for the world of 2030?
Your comment is quite interesting especially because I've been aware of the WEF and, what is now called, Agenda 2030 since at least 2004. That's when my eyes were opened.
The link is the most recent Technocracy Round Table. They talk about how technocracy is moving the world into exactly what you're talking about. You might find it interesting.
If by "funny" you mean by design you're on to something. It's feature, not a flaw of urban design. Stalin drove villagers from their small enclaves into big cities, urban centers, easier to control, he devoted many resources to build them up for that explicit reason.
Human nature is such that when living among many we're forced to make compromises to privacy, communal sacrifices are required to live peaceably. Want to blare your music loud out in the country, have chickens and roosters, make half your law a car/tractor graveyard? Not doing it in a city. If someone came right up and stood next to you, inches away from your face on a rural roadway or even a country supply store you'd tell them to back the f off. Yet in a city we accept that will happen when riding an elevator. Personal space violations become negotiations of urban living, as do other restraints on individual rights. And so the acceptance of communal authority grows. Hence, lefties in urban areas. Even R's in urban/suburban areas are of the squishy variety.
Stalin and leftists know this about human psychology. And study it, practice it, refine it. Urbanization is the most reliable pathway to Collectivist Authoritarianism. The destruction and downtalking about rural life has been an intentional "nudge" out of individual freedom and into collectivist authoritarianism.
Behavioral Science "Nudge" is softer coercion than the point of a gun as Stalin did it. Using mass media, entertainment, movies like "Dirty Dancing" and others that portray rural life as backwards for dummies, urban life as exciting for sophisticates. "Flyover country," "bitter clingers," "baskets of deplorables" aspersions come naturally off the tongues of the urbanists, left and right.
Wow, this is really well thought out and brings up some excellent questions.
"the Canadian government has grown so large that 44% of every dollar spent in Canada is now directly spent by the government, and that number rises to 64% when you factor in coerced spending (compliance costs, tax subsidies, spending mandated by regulation, etc.). And government employment has grown so large that 1 in 4 employed Canadians (25%) now works directly for one of the various branches of government (federal, provincial, and municipal) or in the multitude of bureaucratic institutions that keep the gears of government turning (for perspective, in the United States that number currently sits at around 14.5%)."
And it just occurred to me - this parallels the voting patterns in local elections in my city. The school district is the largest employer and they not only vote, but influence the vote of their family and friends, and they are by and large very liberal. School district (and city) employees are easily the largest voting bloc in our local elections and they are the reason we have a left leaning SB and City Council despite being a red-leaning city. Conservatives don't vote in local elections, and this is something I have been helping to fight for the last 7 years. It is the most frustrating thing ever, and needs to change.
VOTE in local elections, or the liberals will do it for you!!
Have you been following the property tax lawsuit that started in Texas? It's good reason for people to wake up and get involved. See https://www.youtube.com/@realestatemindset
No but we have our own going on in my county. Sadly there are now >26K properties delinquent on property taxes, some now due to a massive increase in assessed values in 2022, which raised tax bills - ours went up 42%! Over 50,000 appeals, some still wending their way through the process. I went door to door for 6 months for a friend who was running for county executive in 2022, telling people you are going to get walloped next year on your tax bill if you vote for the incumbent Democrat. Blue voters just wanted to know if she was a Trump supporter and/or pro-choice (neither of which has anything to do with County business) and she lost.

Agree, we are in uncharted territory!
We aren't all leftist nutcases. Though there are a LOT, especially in the downtown's of all the major cities, just like in the USA.
Oh I know, but like the stack LogicFirst shared below (https://juliusruechel.substack.com/p/14-questions-about-the-51st-state) says, the biggest voting bloc is those who want to keep the federal gravy train running. Just like in our elections.
Yes, I hope everyone follows Julius. He's my favorite Canadian writer.

Isn't it funny how the lefties seem to concentrate in urban areas? It will make evacuation REALLY difficult!
Maybe they're all just very lonely....LOL.
It’s bc they have no idea how the sausage is made. Easy to be like that in urban areas, not so much in rural areas

Exactly. More liberals and a large coven of blue representatives. No thanks but I just think Trump is mega trolling here.
After what he has been put through, let him Mega Troll! MAGA!
This was an interesting article from a Canadian standpoint.

Even 14.5% is way too much! Go DOGE!!
And how much of that goes to their socialized medicine which is so awful people come here for medical care?
MAGA, DOGE, MAHA
About the same in the US, is my guess.

That was helpful. Thank you--esp. as daughter and her husband (and children) live "up there".
My take......Trump is throwing the ball into the outfield to see who will chase it.
Seth Keshel, election integrity guru extraordaire, says the same.
For a different view re: Canada, go read ELIZABETH NICKSON's latest piece. She is another one I'm glad to have stumbled upon.

Love her sites name too! 🙂
It's the raw materials. Canada is rich in them.
Yes, but that won't matter if we end up another USSR.
